XIBALBA Signs With Southern Lord Recordings; West Coast Tour With Alpha & Omega Confirmed

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Pomona, California’s hardcore conquerors XIBALBA have officially signed a deal with Southern Lord Recordings, the label confirmed to release the band’s next three full-length murder anthems.

Following the initial vinyl release of XIBALBA’s Madre Mia Por Los Dias debut full-length early this year via A389 Records (Ringworm, Integrity, Pulling Teeth), Southern Lord released a limited CD pressing of the album, as part of its ongoing underground series. Madre Mia Por Los Dias stormed the hardcore world with its apocalyptic, down-tuned, slow-motion brutality, the band’s ultra-energizing buildups and relentlessly brutal breakdowns instantly drawing comparisons to Disembodied, Bloodlet, Earth Crisis and the heaviest of the late ’90s/early 2000s hardcore scene as well as kings of low-end, groove-laden death metal like Obituary and Sepultura.

The follow-up to Madre Mia Por Los Dias will be recorded in the early months of 2012 and released in the Spring. Little else is confirmed about the album other than the title, Hasta La Muerte, of course translating to “To The Death,” which in typical XIBALBA fashion, ensures a gathering of neck-crushing, mosh-inducing, all-out murderous angst.

Having already toured throughout most of 2011 alongside Foundation, Seraphim, Harm’s Way, Mother Of Mercy, Withdrawal, Venia, Homewrecker and more, and dominated performances at American hardcore festivals including Rain Fest, This Is Hardcore and Sound And Fury, XIBALBA kick off their next rampage of live dates on a West Coast tour alongside Alpha & Omega late this month.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY Signs To Candlelight Records; Album Planned For Early 2012 Release

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Candlelight Records today proudly announces the worldwide signing of CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. Since early this year, the band — featuring the esteemed Animosity line-up of vocalist/bassist Mike Dean, guitarist Woody Weatherman, and drummer/vocalist Reed Mullin — has been working with long-time producer John Custer. Now nearly complete, their still untitled eighth studio album is planned for release early in the New Year.

Gathering last summer to jam as a trio for the first time in over a decade, the treasured threesome quickly rekindled the magic that originally united and ultimately bound the musicians on a journey that today continues to impress both fans and critics. It is the efforts of this line-up that Decibel Magazine recently called “a crucial stylistic lynchpin in the bridge between metal and punk. CORROSION OF CONFORMITY irrevocably reshaped crossover’s sonic possibilities.” notes, ”C.O.C. weren’t following any trends. They just incorporated all the things they liked about thrash, punk and ’70s metal originators Black Sabbath into their constantly evolving sound. It secured them artistic and commercial credibility.”

Candlelight’s Steve Beatty says of the signing, “Animosity is one of my favorite records ever. To have C.O.C. on Candlelight with that line-up is simply mouth-watering. I saw the band in London recently and they did not disappoint. This hungry child can’t wait for the record.” Candlelight’s Edward Christie adds, “we are extremely excited to welcome the band to the label and are looking forward to an amazing album. We are all huge fans and this is truly a memorable day for all of us.”

The band shares the excitement the immediate future holds. Woody Weatherman comments, “writing and recording this new record as a three-piece has been a blast. Having Reed back in the fold with Mike and I brings it around full circle. I’m really looking forward to all that lies ahead this upcoming year.”

Reed Mullen adds, “Mike, Woody and I essentially learned how to play music together and cultivated our own style, sound, and unspoken language. Re-bonding with them musically has been the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me.”

In addition to intense work on the album, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY has kept busy in 2011 touring throughout the US and abroad. One of the main attractions at this year’s Maryland Death Festival, the band mesmerized a salivating capacity audience. Sean Palmerston, editor for Canada’s online magazine Hellbound, said, “I lapped this set up. It was like the tastiest comfort food after a hard day’s work. I haven’t listened to those classic C.O.C. albums in a long, long time. It put a smile on my face.”

Mike Dean says of the new songs, “we have been overdubbing vocals and guitars in between our live dates for the better part of a year. Now it’s time to mix. The process we started back in April is finally coming to fruition. The results should reflect all eras of the band’s existence filtered through our current reality. This is a beast we can’t wait to set free.”

Formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1982, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY quickly transformed heavy music. Politically charged and socially aware, the band has influenced countless others and today remains humble about their accomplishments. With over 1.1 million albums sold in the United States alone, the new album will be their first since 2005’s In The Arms Of God. On release, Billboard Magazine called the album a “riff-fueled set that ranks with (the band’s) best work.”

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY will perform with Danzig tonight at the Gibson Ampitheater in Los Angeles. The band’s final performances for 2011 will be alongside Clutch December 27 through 31. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster and venue box offices.

KVELERTAK: Band To Play SUNY Purchase College This Saturday; Live Bootleg Of New Song Posted On Metal Injection

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Norwegian blackened punk metal enigmas KVELERTAK have spent the last week and a half punishing the U.S. with their explosive live rituals alongside co-headliners Skeletonwitch. Their first official tour in the U.S. will come to a close tomorrow at SUNY Purchase College:

10/29/2011 SUNY Purchase College – Purchase, NY

played a secret late-night gig at Saint Vitus bar in Brooklyn last Friday, October 21, mere hours after decimating Club Europa (also in Brooklyn) as part of the MetalSucks/MetalInjection/1000Knives CMJ showcase. The band decided to play a different set than from their previous performance that night, and even pulled out a brand new track. A two-cam bootleg of the live track can be found below:

Watch more bootlegs from the secret show at HERE.

KVELERTAK released a limited-edition, deluxe CD/DVD re-issue of their genre-defying self-titled debut via Prosthetic Records late last month in North America. The package includes four live audio tracks, two demos, three music videos, five live videos, documentaries, extended artwork, a poster and more. Produced by Kurt Ballou and mixed by Alan Douches with artwork by John Baizley and guest appearances by Hoest (Taake), Andreas Tylden (JR Ewing and Altaar), Ivar Nikolaisen (Silver), and Ryan McKenney (Trap Them), Kvelertak was certified Gold in Norway and one of 2010’s most acclaimed underground releases. The new deluxe version is limited to 5,000 copies worldwide.

KVELERTAK lives up to expectations, and is one of those CDs you can put on repeat and enjoy all day long.” —

“The sheer number of great songs on here is the most stunning part about it. Nothing even approaches filler.” — Blabbermouth

“Rock ‘n’ roll, metal, and punk all collide to form an absolutely raucous first album that’s loud, confrontational, largely indecipherable, and most of all, huge, huge fun.” — Popmatters

“Kvelertak the album abounds with such richness, openness, joy and hedonism. It somehow captures an entire history in its 49 minutes. It is timeless and multitudinous, but so urgent and immediate that it could not have existed in any other instant except this one.” — Long Island Press

“…the erudite and unstoppable three-axe riff barrage and leather razor strop vocals of Erlend Hjelvik make this a release that will fire up the polemics machine.” — Hellbound

“the best Norwegian band since A-Ha,” — Kerrang! Magazine

..”an absolute monster of a record…” — Blistering

“This simply rules.” — Exclaim

“…this record is the vinyl that’s spun at the height of hedonism, these songs blast of blasphemy made flesh where the chemical-spiked Jager (don’t try that at home) flows as freely as water while the record spins at maximum volume for maximum impact.” — Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles

LED ZEPPELIN 2 Head West Next Week; New Live Footage Available

Friday, October 28th, 2011

LED ZEPPELIN 2 — the ultimate Zeppelin tribute band will head to the west coast next week where the band will continue to floor audiences with their flawless Led Zeppelin reenactment.

Far more than a typical cover band, Bruce Lamont — most widely recognized for his saxophone and vocal work fronting Chicago-based Yakuza — and his cohorts allow fans to experience Led Zeppelin as Zeppelin would have played in front of an audience. LZ2 sold-out venues across the U.S. in 2010 and the early part of 2011 and continue to draw rave reviews for a “spot-on” Zeppelin performance, playing deep cuts and classic tracks from the entire catalog, and occasionally entire Led Zeppelin performances from specific shows and sets from the band’s storied history.

LED ZEPPELIN 2 Fall 2011 Tour Dates:
11/03/2011 Yost Theater – Santa Ana, CA Tickets
11/04/2011 Belly Up – Solana Beach, CA Tickets
11/05/2011 The Key Club – West Hollywood, CA Tickets
11/08/2011 House Of Blues – Las Vegas, NV
11/09/2011 The Foundry – Phoenix, AZ
11/11/2011 Harlow’s – Sacramento, CA
11/12/2011 Slim’s San Francisco, CA Tickets recently conducted an interview with Lamont during their stop in Engelwood, Colorado earlier this month. Check out the interview, as well as some killer live footage below.

“Their whole performance was just spot on all night long, including double neck guitar, playing guitar with a violin bow and the occasional breaks to pour down some Whiskey to oil that throat.” — Superskum
“…the best Zep band going anywhere.” — Time Out New York

“There are a lot of Zep tributes out there, but this one’s our favorite, not least because its members fully immerse themselves in the musicianship and style of the four classic-rock heavyweights. That Yakuza howler Bruce Lamont does a mean Robert Plant is icing on the cake.” — Time Out Chicago

“…these imitators get the Led out in a way your battered copy of Physical Graffiti never will, right down to the unearthly tones of guitarist Paul Kamp’s bowed Les Paul solos. Sure, purists are still holding out for the real deal’s tour, but even if that happens, it’s doubtful that Robert Plant can wail the opening lines of ‘Black Dog’ as well as his LED ZEPPELIN 2 counterpart, Bruce Lamont,” — The Onion

“The band is on its way out of the minor leagues, and is now playing bigger venues for a generation of fans too young to have ever experienced the genuine article.” — The New Yorker

“…these guys sound fucking exactly like Led Zeppelin!” — Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett

“…the closest thing to seeing the real Led Zeppelin.” — Dallas Observer

“…such authentic raw flair, the entire crowd bought it, no questions lingering… It was nasty… hard to believe how balls-out fantastic they are.” — Atlanta’s Backstage Beat

“Bruce Lamont and Paul Kamp (of Yakuza and Busker Soundcheck fame, respectively) and the killer rhythm section of Ian Lee and Chris Klein bill themselves as LED ZEPPELIN 2, and they do as good a Zep as Zep ever did back in the day.” — The Chicago Sun Times

WHITEHORSE: Limited Vinyl Edition Of New Album To See Release In November

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

At A Loss Recordings have confirmed the release date for the limited LP edition of WHITEHORSE’s latest mammoth full-length, Progression. Following an initial CD release via Sweat Lung early last year as the band stormed the U.S. alongside The Body, At A Loss officially released the album via digital download in July, harvesting drop-jawed reactions from extreme doom/sludge fans and critics.

Now At A Loss will issue Progression on wax this November 8th, this time unleashing the record’s massive tones in analog format for the diehards and collectors. Once again licensed from Sweat Lung, this pressing will be limited to 500 copies on black or black & blue swirled vinyl, and will include a digital download coupon to access high-quality MP3s as well. Preorders for the platter are being taken here.

Following their crushing U.S. tour last year, WHITEHORSE will return next Summer on a full tour of the country. More info will be announced as the time draws near. In the meantime, the band continue to book shows throughout Australia.

WHITEHORSE Australian Live Dates:
11/05/2011 Bendingo Hotel – Melbourne
11/12/2011 Animal House – Adelaide
12/12/2011 The Brisbane Hotel, Hobart – Tasmania

“It’s not so much the feverish, rabid, frothing at-the-mouth imp-ish vocals that make Progression horrifically dark. It’s the murk around them: the dragging static and hanging distortion, the echoing empty spaces and rolling waves of sound… Whitehorse handle havoc deftly: in a covert, convincing manner that could influence an entire genre of musicians. 8/10″ – Decibel

“…expertly captures the band’s dirge and destruction… Totally underrated, and devastating.” – BrooklynVegan

“Comprised of well established musicians from the Melbourne underground as far reaching as grind/death/experimental/punk/noise creating a full blown ‘knock down and drag out’ through five tracks of chronic cranium beating and cerebral abuse that’ll make you bleed black internally.” – Hellride Music

MORKOBOT’s New Album Out Now; Full Album Streaming + New Live Footage Available

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Morbo, the latest full-length from instrumental Italian noise juggernaut MORKOBOT, is now officially available to thrill-seeking musical deviants worldwide via Supernatural Cat Records. Skillfully created by MORKOBOT’s standard setup — simply utilizing two bass guitars and a drum kit — Morbo presents the rabid trio bringing forth thirty-seven minutes of their heaviest, most audacious musical mayhem to date.

Stream Morbo in its entirety via Supernatural Cat now!

Having just returned from a massive European venture supporting Ufomammut, the talent and energy harnessed within the confines of the mysterious MORKOBOT clan is becoming vastly apparent to open-minded extreme music consumers and concertgoers as tons of live footage from multiple performances along of the 23-date tour routing is infesting the Internet this month.

MORKOBOT is a totally suggestive instrumental sonic monster. A magmatic and liquid atmosphere lead the listener to a psychedelic and chaotic world in which vibrations become dense like glue, light and darkness are continuously turning in a nonstop changing lysergic noise. Musically, this Italian trio is the perfect mid-point between robotic mechanisms and organic humanity.

“…the performers lock into similar tight grinds as the bases for riffs and extrapolations, in near unison rather than one or the other taking off for a solo. 4/5″ – All Music Guide

“Fully instrumental, Morkobot craft a sound that falls somewhere between stoner, doom, sludge, acid and…well…trance metal, if such a thing exists. They are masters of the groove, with an oddly toned bass very much dominant in the mix and very much utilized to its full extent. 4/5″ – Music Emissions

“…the drumming is simply complex and technically advanced… Similarly, the bass-playing, despite the noisy and chaotic appearance of the basses, is based on repetition of compact ostinatos, which are solid and precisely executed. 4/5″ – Sea of Tranquility
