GODHUNTER‘s dynamic and damaging Codex Narco, featuring a wide cast of guest musicians, is out this week. Long-running rock/doom portal The Obelisk is now streaming the entire record ahead of its official unveiling through Battleground Records and Baby Tooth Records.
Codex Narco is a more experimental and boundary-defying release than any of GODHUNTER‘s prior material, the expansive sound fueled by contributions from friends and allies including members of CHRCH, Demon Lung, Mountaineer, Thorne, Methra, and more, who help create a unique, textured sound. The final product was mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, and completed with artwork by Bailey Illustration and layout design by Cool Ghoul Ltd. (Ethan McCarthy of Primitive Man). The proceeds from the digital and cassette versions of Codex Narco are being donated to aid Planned Parenthood, and the record features a cover of Tegan & Sara’s “Walking With A Ghost,” to support suicide prevention.
With their advance stream of the album, The Obelisk issues in part, “the wash that Codex Narco creates ties together this dizzying interchange of personnel, and with a headphone-ready depth of mix unlike anything GODHUNTER have produced before, these tracks offer atmospheric weight to coincide with their sheer tonal density… Codex Narco could just as easily pass as an LP as an EP in terms of how its component pieces feed into and off of each other.”
Help support Planned Parenthood and stream GODHUNTER’s Codex Narco RIGHT HERE.
Codex Narco will see digital release through Battleground Records and cassette release through Baby Tooth Records this Friday, May 19th; find preorders HERE.
Stand by for an official video from Codex Narco and more to see release in the days ahead.
In September of 2015, after finishing a successful US tour with Destroyer Of Light, several members of GODHUNTER amicably split with the band, simply moving on with more family commitments and unable to commit to regular touring. Within weeks of the lineup shift, the rest of the band began writing new material together through internet conversations and individual recording sessions, as remaining guitarist/vocalist David Rodgers, drummer Andy Kratzenberg, and keyboardist Matthew Davis, currently reside on opposite ends of the country, spread across Washington, Arizona, and Georgia. The remaining members recruited guest vocals from Eva Rose (CHRCH) and Josh Thorne (Thorne), bass from Adam Sage (Demon Lung), guitars from Clayton Bartholomew (Mountaineer, ex-Secrets Of The Sky), and vocal, bass, and guitar contributions from Nick Genitals (Methra) to take part in the record, much of it recorded at Homewrecker Studios in Tucson, with the additional material recorded by each musician at their hometown studio of choice.
