CHROME WAVES: Invisible Oranges Premieres “Open Casket” Video; A Grief Observed LP Out Now Through Disorder Recordings

Midwestern trio CHROME WAVES – containing former members of Wolvhammer, Nachtmystium, Abigail Williams, The Gates Of Slumber, Amiensus, and more – delivers a new video from their newly-unleashed debut LP, the harrowing A Grief Observed. Following the album’s release through Disorder Recordings earlier this month, a bleak video for the track “Open Casket” has been issued, hosted through a premiere at Invisible Oranges.

CHROME WAVESA Grief Observed sees the outfit making its return with a new lineup, taking the outfit from a side project to a full-time act. With six dense, mid-paced tracks, the dynamic album weaves through a myriad of sounds and styles, coalescing the members’ influences from black metal, doom, post/alt-metal, dark pop, and more. A Grief Observed was engineered by Niko Albanese with the band’s James Benson and Jeff Wilson, finished with artwork by Wilson.

The video for ‘Open Casket” was filmed and directed by David Brenner in the grim spirit of the song. Wilson offers of the song, “This song and video is for the handful of people that have followed the records I’ve done for the last ten or so years. From Blackbird to Nachtmystium’s, ‘Every Last Drop’ to Wolvhammer’s, ‘A Light That Doesn’t Yield’; myself and others seem to have been fans of a somber closer. ‘Open Casket’ is a little different as the ending is a little more frantic, more chaotic and completely bipolar. Dave has been doing videos that express exactly those thoughts and images and it works perfectly the visual theme of the album and for this song.”

Invisible Oranges is hosting the premiere of the new video, writing in part, “CHROME WAVES have never been ones to neglect the element of performance, consistently staying attentive to visual details. Still, the quartet manages to keep things fresh with their latest visual contribution for the song ‘Open Casket.’ While the video for ‘Past the Lights’ from mid-February is a polished take on metal’s potential for accessibility and even downright catchiness, the new video for ‘Open Casket’ is a hypnotic adventure of Blair Witch proportions. Directed by David Brenner, the eight-minute track provides a gripping, mid-tempo slice of sinister heavy music. And as we are taken through pulsing images of long-rooted cemeteries and bleak landscape, we are reminded that death remains a constant through building bricks and hitching powerlines.”

Following his departure from Wolvhammer and Abigail Williams in 2018, Jeff Wilson set out to finally make CHROME WAVES a full-time endeavor and brought in new guitarist/vocalist James Benson (Amiensus) alongside the returning Bob Fouts on drums. With a renewed sense of inspiration, the revamped lineup began recording immediately, with their sights set on completing their long-awaited debut full-length, A Grief Observed. In October, the trio issued the first new CHROME WAVES track in six years with “Burdened,” the first single from the impending LP. Several weeks later, the outfit released a non-album cover of Slowdive’s “When The Sun Hits” while continuing to wrap-up production on A Grief Observed.
