The powerful forces of BLOODMOON and TRAPPED WITHIN BURNING MACHINERY have coalesced to co-create something crushing and otherworldly. Both units have been mastering their craft of aural alchemy for nearly a decade now. Their respective approaches are unique, though on their upcoming spit — set for release via Midnite Collective on October 1st and LP through Black Voodoo Records later in the month — a mutual intention is demonstrated: the piercing of the veil through the transmutation of darkness into creativity.
In advance of its release, Decibel Magazine is streaming the offering in full at THIS LOCATION.
Preorders for the CD and tape are available HERE. For vinyl preorders visit THIS LOCATION.
“When we first started as a band we had a sampled intro for our set with a heavily effected spoken word by our drummer Jason who was ranting about how ridiculous everything is one night,” BLOODMOON vocalist/guitarist Peter Tomis explains of their track “Nothing Is Special, Nobody Cares.” “The final words in his rant were, ‘nothing is special, nobody cares’, and it kind of became our mantra going forward in how we approach the band and creativity. What it meant to us was just relinquishing any sort of expectation we had for the band other than our own self-satisfaction. People may find it special, and people may care, but if we want to keep growing as artists we needed to deny those thoughts for ourselves so that the only criticisms driving our creativity and output were our own. The lyrics deal with the finer points of this concept and how it is the reality as an artist in the modern age, but also the fact that it has always been like this but it wasn’t until now in the age of information that we are coming to realize it as we see asinine trends come and go monthly, even weekly.”
For their half, TRAPPED WITHIN BURNING MACHINERY offer a hypnotic doom epic in “Abysswalker” based around the video game series Dark Souls. “Abysswalker” is also the surname of Artorias The Abysswalker, a character who is eventually enslaved by the abyss after being driven mad by the darkness he finds within it. The song is written from the perspective of Artorias as he delves into the abyss to protect his king. Slowly consumed by the darkness and driven into a psychotic madness, he’s eventually enslaved by the abyss where he finds shelter, becomes its protector and awaits all those who dare to traverse it. It’s lethargic and dark nature makes “Abysswalker” the ideal way to end the split, by sliding into slow darkness.
Sonically, the two songs combine into one cohesive, immersive thirty-minute experience. There is a natural ebb and flow which carries you through an explorative journey. BLOODMOON erupt full force, gradually refining that vigor into focused precision. The heaviness of this composition mirrors the sheer weight of being constrained to flesh suits perfectly, and the strength emancipation requires. TRAPPED WITHIN BURNING MACHINERY begin ominously, slowly gaining intensity, building majestically into epic proportions.
Catch both bands live on three upcoming live rituals with future performances to be announced soon.
