USX: The Valley Path Listening Party Brought To You By AOL Music

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

This week, AOL Music is hosting a USX listening party. Check out The Valley Path in its entirety HERE.

The latest full-length from the Appalachian masters of dark psychedelia comes out today via Neurot Recordings. The mammoth follow-up to 2010’s critically-lauded Run Thick In The Night consists of one, near 40-minute mammoth track of esoteric beauty.

In a recent review, championed The Valley Path, calling it “a piece of music that lets off both realistic emotions and a dreamy ambiance.” Stereokiller agreed calling the record “a single-track opus fueled by sound-driven expanse and a spiritual tone expressed like bedtime prayer.” Cvlt Nation added: “This is 40 minutes of dark psychedelic bliss that only gets grander with each listen,” while Redefine noted: “…a mellow, cosmically tranced out, slow-burning blues jam of epic proportions.”

In related news, USX recently performed a handful of special acoustic shows. Check out some footage here:!/USX.APPALACHIA

“Everything great about thrash — infectious, galloping riffs, hummable choruses, a vast array of gang vocals in ‘DOA’ — is employed, with their ace in the hole being Reece Scruggs, whose sumptuously-phrased solos, balancing shred, fiery modal moves and soulful, blues bends will suck in everyone from guitar nerds to song-structure curmudgeons.”  — Terrorizer

HAVOK have the chops and the ability to prove that they have the staying power to last in this genre.” –

“Old-school thrash fans are going to be wreaking Havok’s Time Is Up on their neighbors with the windows rolled down and the volume cranked up to 11. It’s an excellent disc full of monster riffs, solos and grooves.” — Metal Underground

“…they have the flashy skill, ridiculous song writing chops and prodigious lead guitar world that’ll have even the most jaded ears saying, ‘Okay, just this last once…’” — Rock Sound

HAVOK keep the guitars to 11 and scream some sweet licks… I do not know why they are not opening the Big Four tour.” — Stereokiller

THE BEAST OF THE APOCALYPSE – New Song Stream Available Via Decibel

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011 is currently streaming the title track off THE BEAST OF THE APOCALYPSE’s harrowing Henosis full-length, released earlier this year via Transcendental Creations. Their second offering of audio darkness seeks and explores the realm of the One, the Source, the Ultimate, that which the ancients called Henosis. H.T. Mozes and S. Serpentijn’s raw-to-the-bone, primitive black metal is once again displayed in full-force and accentuated by passages of grandiose, celestial ambiance.

Check out “Henosis” HERE.

It is with this album that the band dig deeper into the soil of past cults and ancient mystics’ interpretations of the mystery of Henosis. THE BEAST OF THE APOCALYPSE take the torch of veteran black metal bands Beherit, Samael and Archgoat and carry it proudly in these dark times of the new millennium.

“…these Dutchmen are indeed flying to the southern most point: a place where Satan himself awaits The Beast of the Apocalypse to congratulate the glory of Henosis.” — Metal Army America

“This record is the stuff nightmares are made of, and the type of sick music that fans of the genre gravitate towards with a unnatural level of eagerness.” — Metal Underground

“…a solid album that fans of murky, near-suicidal black metal will want to add to their listening rotation.” —

“This is dense, propulsive, hypnotic Black Metal that is worthy to bear the name.” — Metal Crypt

UNEARTH: Worldwide Premiere Of New Track, “Ruination Of The Lost,”Brought To You By MetalSucks

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Today popular metal portal MetalSucks hosts the worldwide premiere of UNEARTH’s “Ruination Of The Lost,” the explosive second track off the band’s upcoming Darkness In The Light full-length.

Commented vocalist Trevor Phipps: “‘Ruination Of The Lost’ is a pummeling frontend album song that showcases our mix of both American and European metallic influences with an Apocalyptic lyrical theme. Buz [McGrath] and Ken [Susi] both rip some serious guitar solos in the tune and their guitar harmonies are hauntingly catchy. This one is a high energy shredder while lyrically it speaks about the end of the human race in the not so distant future if we continue to destroy our planet with the current level of disregard year after year. It’s hard for me to understand why people still let money and politics interfere with any real positive change even with the warning signs Mother Nature has given us. The title of the song refers to the self-destructive nature of the human race and how we are collectively so lost in our lust for money and power that we are destroying the world that gave us life in the first place.”

To check out “Ruination Of The Lost,” point your browser HERE.

Charging out of the late ’90s Massachusetts underground in a storm of thunderous riffs and focused aggression, in 2011 UNEARTH proudly stand at the forefront of modern metal. With fifth full-length, Darkness In The Light, the quintet have delivered their most honest, powerful, and compelling statement to date, driving a fist into the collective gut of every image-obsessed wannabe metal band currently cluttering up the landscape, and setting a new standard when it comes to marrying precision brute force and exhilarating melody. Slated for North American release via Metal Blade Records July 5, the 11-track long player was recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts with producer (and Killswitch Engage guitarist) Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium, et al). Sitting in on drums during the recording was Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed.

Several discounted pre-order deals for Darkness In The Light are available. Packages include:

NACHTMYSTIUM Induct Bassist, Completing Band Lineup

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Chicago black metal assassins NACHTMYSTIUM officially announce their recently recruited full-time bassist, as they welcome Reid Raley of Rwake/Deadbird into the ranks of the band.

Besides founding guitarist/vocalist Blake Judd, NACHTMYSTIUM have forced their way from the depths of the American black metal scene to international popularity over the past decade incorporating temporary lineups from release to release, and presenting a new set of musicians for nearly every tour the band has embarked on. Over recent months, Judd has recruited several other full-time members including lead guitarist Andrew Markuszewski (Avichi, Lord Mantis), drummer Charlie Fell (Lord Mantis, Avichi), and keyboard/synth engineer Sanford Parker (Minsk, Circle Of Animals), now solidifying the crew with the addition of Reid Raley on bass, making this the first “official lineup” for the band, ever.

Stated Judd and NACHTMYSTIUM on Raley joining the band: “Nachtmystium, for the first time in the band’s history as a full-time touring band, has a solid live lineup that matches the studio lineup. We intend to move forward and keep this group together indefinitely. It’s taken 10 years to put together the perfect band, and now we’ve got it. So watch for us on the road starting in June and throughout the rest of the year!  We anticipate that Reid’s presence will not only bring a thunderous low-end onslaught on the live stage, but also will hopefully bring in some new elements into the writing of future Nachtmystium recordings.”

Read the full statement at NACHTMYSTIUM’s Facebook page.

Catch the full new NACHTMYSTIUM wrecking crew live over the Summer months at the band’s confirmed upcoming live attacks, including a co-headlining spot at this year’s Alehorn of Power Festival in Chicago June 11, a co-headlining spot at the Central Illinois Metalfest on July 23, and an appearance at Party.San Open Air Festival in Schlotheim, Germany on August 12. The band have constructed a longer set than usual for these performances, mostly comprised of tracks they’ve not performed live before.

BLACK SKIES Issue Roadside Update; Full Album Stream Available

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

North Carolina power trio, BLACK SKIES, recently kicked off a near-four-week U.S. tour earlier this month. They’ve ravaged their way through over 13 cities, including two sets in New York City, with no signs of wear.

Commented Michelle Temple (bass, vocals), from the road: “We’re really excited to be back on the road after spending most of the Fall and Winter recording and mixing the new record. So far all the shows have been great. The promoters and venues have all shown us great hospitality. My favorite so far was a show in Harrisonburg, Virginia at the Crayola House. Check out the band Earthing from there. Very talented guys. We played several dates with our good long time friends, Backwoods Payback and were sad to say goodbye.”

Added John Byrd, an honorary member of BLACK SKIES who helps the band out on tour: “Some things about these trips with Kevin, Michelle and Tim are consistent: The near constant rain for the first week; the regional potato chip comparisons (this time I brought along six bags of Zapps from Louisiana. I’m pretty sure they’re the best) and the daily doings that are the work of touring: driving, loading, waiting, loading, driving, etc. There’s music in there too but that’s their job, not mine. The highlights are always meeting new friends in good bands and finding interesting venues we’ve never been to. It doesn’t sound like a decadent rock ‘n’ roll fantasy, I know – but that narrative is strictly for kids I’ve found. [At the time of this writing] we’re in Providence and there’s an old guy doing a jig in front of the venue while the first band sound checks. Such are the things I see on tour from my perspective at the merch table. In fact, if it isn’t painted on the side of a semi going down the interstate or wandering downtown after dark, it wont exist for me. Of things painted on trucks though, we seem to be touring New England at the same time as a group of Christian Evangelicals who were spreading the good news about the end of the world. I’m a bit jealous of their elaborately decorated R.V.s and trying not to covet them.”

In addition, guitarist/vocalist Kevin Clark wrote some tour haikus he wanted to share:

“A hundred bucks for gas
Tick with teeth full of my ass
That’s life on the road”

“Over Northern lands
Shared the path with Doomsday vans
Creeping into cold”

“Backs no longer hurt
Every night an Earthling shirt
Finished off the chips”

“Four pairs of flip flops
Pouring rain that never stops
A couple free sips”

The Chapel Hill natives – Clark,  Temple and drummer Tim Herzog — have been tuning down and turning up since late 2005, constantly evolving their aural offerings of psychedelic sludge. With a combination of the foreboding heaviness of blues based proto-metal, the spry attitude and approach of punk, and the dynamics of progressive rock, their songs often project a dark and urgent energy. The band is gearing up to release their new full-length, On The Wings Of Time, later this year.  The follow-up to 2008’s Hexagon EP was recorded, produced and mastered by Harvey Milk’s Kyle Spence at his own RJS studios in Athens, Georgia. Check out a stream of the record at Band Camp HERE.
