New York hardcore veterans OUTBURST are pleased to unveil a cover of Power Trip’s “Executioner’s Tax (Swing Of The Axe),” now available via Blackout! Records. Captured live earlier this year, the single serves as a tribute to the late Riley Gale. Blackout! Records will be donating 100% of the proceeds of this digital single to the Riley Gale Foundation to support LGBTQ+ youth, animal welfare, and mental health organizations around the greater Dallas area.

Offers OUTBURST, “Thanks to the wonders of the internet, the legend of Power Trip covering our ‘Intro’ during their live shows began to grow. Twitter threads, message board postings and YouTube clips of ‘Intro’ indeed being played, sometimes multiple times in a set, only helped to stoke our curiosity. With their tour rolling through Brooklyn in August of 2015, we decided to form a welcome committee, take in the Power Trip experience, and say hello. The rest, as they say, is history.

“We had the good fortune to join Power Trip in playing various live shows in 2018 and they graced us with another blazing cover, this time ‘When Things Go Wrong,’ for the Blackout! Records OUTBURST covers record Hot Shit Attitude in 2019. Then 2020 happened.

“Fast forward to April 2022, where we found ourselves on a California tour with Terror, Mindforce, and Dead Heat. This recording of ‘Intro’ and our cover of ‘Executioner’s Tax (Swing Of The Axe)’ from the 1720 Warehouse in Los Angeles is our heartfelt way to return the respect to Power Trip while paying tribute to our dear friend Riley Gale. You’ll be able to hear the outpouring of love from the crowd, singing along to every word and even seizing the microphone. Thank you to 197Media for capturing these awesome live moments. Thank you, Power Trip. Riley Gale forever.”

The Lower East Side of Manhattan during the late 1980s was a crazy, twisted island of misfit toys. All the kids who were too ugly, too smart, too psychotic, or simply too weird to fit in a world dominated by preppies and guidos found themselves part of the hardcore scene, with CBGB at its epicenter. Astoria’s OUTBURST was one of several dozen “second wave” bands who grew up on originators Agnostic Front, Kraut, Murphy’s Law, and others. Like their friends in Leeway, Gorilla Biscuits, and Raw Deal, they took elements of crossover metal and fused it with punk rock to create a signature sound.

OUTBURST grew in popularity after a well-received demo and tracks on Blackout! Records’ Where The Wild Things Are Compilation. The band also recorded and released one EP entitled Miles To Go for Blackout! in 1989. Soon after the band broke up and all the members went their separate way.

Over fifteen years later, OUTBURST began to play some reunion shows, and continue to tour, including a recent European and a West Coast mini-tour with Terror.
