SHANNON JAE RIDOUT and DUSTIN BOTHWELL are the latest two additions to Anti-Corp Music’s adored The Magnolia Sessions, both set for release on September 4th.

The Magnolia Sessions showcases bluegrass, dark country, and folk singer/songwriter acts, recorded live in an intimate outdoor setting by a large magnolia tree at the Anti-Corp/Black Matter Mastering headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, by owner Dan Emery. The series has delivered albums from the likes of Lost Dog Street Band, The Hill Country Devil, Joe Wunderle, Cooper McBean, The Resonant Rogues, Matt Heckler, Jason Dea West, Johno Leeroy, Cristina Vane, Nick Hans, Casper Allen, Jeff Loops, Angela Autumn, Tyler Hood, Jade Brodie, Douglas Francisco, Ivan McLeod, Austin Stambaugh, Willi Carlisle, Coleman Williams, Joe’s Truck Stop, Aurelia Anne Cohen, Chris Emmert, The Bandit Queen Of Sorrows, Squeaky Bones, Bosko Baker, Ramblin’ Ricky Tate, Hannah Juanita, and Steve Austin, many of which have debuted on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts.

SHANNON JAE RIDOUT was raised in rural western Washington, a classically trained clarinetist from age nine through nineteen, but at the age of twenty-one, she bought a fifty-dollar Johnson acoustic guitar from a pawn shop, learned one finger picking pattern and a few chords, and started learning old European murder ballads, weaving her own unique voice of expression. She hitchhiked and toured across the country for over a decade, busking by day, playing any stages she could find by night, met her late husband, Nicholas Ridout, in 2010, continuing down the same path together. She recorded her first solo album, Unwritten Scripts, and in January of 2011 the two were married and loosely formed their band as a duo, SourMash Melodies and recorded their album, Bottle And Chain.

In 2011 they formed Spitshine Street Band with Benjamin Tod Flippo and Ashley Mae Flippo of Lost Dog Street Band and recorded their full-length album, A Bottle, A Gun & A Troubled Mind. However, Spitshine Street Band came to an abrupt ending in the spring of 2013, with Nicholas’s tragic passing. In the group’s wake, The Teardrop Trio was formed in the Fall of 2013 and the three recorded their eponymous EP, and RIDOUT recorded her second full-length solo album, Strung Up Sorrow. A ten-year gap would follow, and SHANNON JAE RIDOUT returned to the stage and studio for the release of her new album, Two Busted Boots And A Broken Heart, released by Anti-Corp in April of 2026.

On her participation in The Magnolia Sessions, RIDOUT reveals, “I’ve had a lot of interesting recording experiences over the years but working with Dan in the studio over a walkie talkie, me out under the black curtain of night, singing with the symphony of crickets, katydids, cicadas, and occasional frogs takes the cake.  It was eerie in the split seconds of silence between the music and the soulful creature’s songs. There was room to breathe, contemplate, consider, and let this collection of songs take shape as they made their way off into the darkness and the night and this, very alive, recording, stamped in time.”

Dan Emery adds, “I have been trying to get Shannon to come record a record for The Magnolia Sessions since the first year I did them. When she told me that she was ready to get back into performing, we planned to record immediately. When she came out, we were working around the rain. It took us a while to get traction, but I think it was well worth the extra effort. I believe this session is the perfect one to close out this year!”

DUSTIN BOTHWELL is a singer, songwriter, and collaborator from Jacksonville, Florida, now based in Nashville, Tennessee. Drawn to experience life from more than one vantage point, he spent years traveling the country while writing songs, working a wide range of trades, and making what he could with what he found. That perspective continues to shape both his songwriting and the records he helps bring to life. His songs explore labor, mercy, and the distance between who people are and who they hope to become. Alongside his own music, he regularly co-writes and collaborates with a close community of independent artists, helping develop their work from first ideas through finished recordings.

BOTHWELL was accompanied by Elijah Wyatt on guitar and backing vocals for this recording. He states, “I’d been following The Magnolia Sessions for years before getting the chance to take part. In Nashville, anything that puts the song first and keeps the process simple and unforced can feel increasingly rare, and Dan has built a format around exactly that. I came in after a particularly long workday without a set list and played whatever felt right—a few songs from my 2024 album, a few from the record I’m working on now, and a few songs by writers whose work has influenced me.”

Emery reports, “Dustin is a true blue-collar songwriter. His original songs reflect the life of the regular man, and that’s what I love about them. They are songs every person can identify with. The heartbreak of relationships falling apart and frustration of life as well as the struggles of personal vice. His session was originally intended to be the last recording of the year, so it was a really relaxed session. Dustin and his friend Elijah interacted more like a couple dudes hanging out playing songs together than people trying to make a recording. I think that’s really important in capturing the true essence of what we are trying to accomplish here.”
