Allentown, Pennsylvania-based ORPHAN DONOR – the project of Secret Cutter drummer Jared Stimpfl – will release its gnarled new LP, Unraveled, through Zegema Beach Records in June. With the album’s intense cover artwork, track listing, and other details, preorders for Unraveled and its lead single, “My Friend, The Hornet,” have been issued.
ORPHAN DONOR‘s sound is influenced by early-2000s screamo and metalcore, mangled with elements of grindcore and math metal, and more. The project released its scathing Old Patterns album in the early Spring months of 2020 to critical acclaim, while Stimpfl was already leaning heavily into the creation of new material, which delves even further into the realms of psychosis.
If Old Patterns was a mind-bending acid trip, ORPHAN DONOR‘s Unraveled is the subsequent and sobering descent into madness. This album feels like being steadily pressured down a spiral staircase with uneven steps. The discordant album once again sees Jared Stimpfl performing all guitars, bass, drums, and other instrumentation, joined by his ally Chris Pandolfo of Clouds Collide on vocals. With Unraveled, they have concocted a nightmarish seven songs; a tsunami of anger, profusely ringing, anchored by the prodigious eleven-minute closer “Celestial Mourning.”
Unraveled was recorded, mixed, and produced by Stimpfl at his Captured Recording Studios, where he has produced records for the likes of Jesus Piece, Secret Cutter, Ultramantis Black, Tile, and more, and mastered by Arthur Rizk (Cavalera Conspiracy, Power Trip, Xibalba) and completed once again with the expectedly bizarre artwork/design of James Ravelle, who has crafted visuals for prior ORPHAN DONOR output.

“I wanted to capture more of the groovy parts of Old Patterns and expand on the songwriting a bit more to feel more cohesive and thought out,” Stimpfl offers. “Chris Pandolfo of Clouds Collide again helps belt out the emotional lyrics from the past trauma of loss and pure unhinged lapse of a base reality. The song writing and recording process only took seven months after the release of Old Patterns, building upon the momentum and new song structure approach while tracking the record. The songs feel more cohesive and thought out. While all is still a very in the moment and not premeditated while writing.”
He continues, “There’s a desperation that comes through this set of songs, like the last scrapes of the charred lining of what was left after the agony of loss and subsequent psychosis from trauma. It’s a very cathartic record for me, and I’ve actually felt like I’ve processed and have moved on even further. ORPHAN DONOR has always been a release from the accumulation of negative emotions that build up from time to time.”
