“The Menagerie Inside bridges prog and dreampop in a way that hasn’t quite been done before. Arrangements are sprawling, often reminiscent of Isis, but that distinctly feminine side makes the music feel so much more welcoming and alluring.” – Pop Matters
The Menagerie Inside, the anticipated new full-length from eclectic UK-based quartet, MIDAS FALL, is out today on Monotreme Records. Captured live at Red Wall Studios and mastered by legendary Seattle-based engineer Ed Brooks (Pearl Jam, Caspian, Fleet Foxes et al), The Menagerie Inside delivers ten sprawling hymns that are at once graceful, urgent; ghostly and compelling; a truly introspective journey where cascading riffs ebb, flow and surge into rich, ethereal piano crescendos, the weight of vocalist Elizabeth Heaton’s angelically melancholic resonance adding depth to her every echoing word.
Piquing the interest of media outlets globally, Covering The Scene relays, “Heaton could enchant the soul right out of the body into her private ocean of experiences. You may not have lived it, but you’ll feel what she went through. Gaze at your shoes all you want, you’ll eventually succumb to the shimmering light bouncing off the waves, as memories are swept out to sea then crashed to shore broken and shattered.” Echoes And Dust agrees, “Elizabeth Heaton’s voice is devastatingly haunting. Her tone is that of someone who is tortured but innately required to release that which plagues her heart.” Likening Heaton’s voice to the likes of Tori Amos, Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star), early Sarah McLachlan, Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, and Angie Hart (Frente), the publication furthers, “Heaton’s command over her ‘chords’ is immense. She harbors such power and angst while still able to deliver tenderness when the song requires it… Sit down, plug in, and be prepared for an onslaught on your emotions.”
In celebration of today’s release, Pop Matters is hosting the official North American stream of the record in its poignant entirety elaborating, “The Menagerie Inside bridges prog and dreampop in a way that hasn’t quite been done before. Arrangements are sprawling, often reminiscent of Isis, but that distinctly feminine side makes the music feel so much more welcoming and alluring.”

MIDAS FALL has, since their 2009 inception, crafted a distinctive, captivating and wholly immersive sound that merges elements of electronica, post-rock, shoegaze and alternative rock with progressive and gothic undertones into deep shimmering soundscapes led by the haunting vocal oscillations of Heaton. Initially likened to Portishead and Explosions In The Sky upon their initial formation, MIDAS FALL – Heaton alongside Rowan Burn (guitar, piano), Steven Pellatt (drums/percussion/piano) and Chris Holland (bass) – has since cultivated their own unique sound exhibition and continues to transcend genre boundaries with The Menagerie Inside.
The Menagerie Inside is out NOW on CD and digital download formats, as well as a limited edition 180-gram vinyl LP in translucent purple with black splatter, with a free album CD and poster inside. Order your copy today at THIS LOCATION.
