Underworld rock/doom portal, The Obelisk, is now running an exclusive premiere of “Antediluvian,” by Denver-based doom quartet, KHEMMIS, the crushing fourth track on the band’s impending Absolution debut LP which sees the band joining the likes of Samothrace, Graves At Sea, Pallbearer, Yob, Mournful Congregation, Lycus, Atlantean Kodex on the 20 Buck Spin roster.
With an in-depth investigation of KHEMMIS‘ new single, and of the album as a whole, the write-up accompanying “Antediluvian” perfectly breaks down the band’s tremendous chemistry and commanding songwriting skills, issuing in part, “one can hear that Absolution is a work geared more toward uniting styles to find something new from them rather than contrasting them, digging back to the theatrical death-doom roots of more modern doom à la Pallbearer and bringing in atmospheres that feel born out of classic Paradise Lost and Novembers Doom to add a shot of adrenaline and extra push where and when they feel it’s called for. The balance they strike and the fluidity they’re able to conjure are two of Absolution‘s most impressive aspects, but neither is the righteousness of a riff like that which anchors ‘Antediluvian’ to be understated.”

In addition to their hometown record release show on August 1st, KHEMMIS is days from unveiling a widespread Western US tour in support of Absolution.
KHEMMIS Live:
8/01/2015 Hi-Dive – Denver, CO * Absolution release show w/ Native Daughters, Of Feather And Bone
Through the devastating clarity of the production by Dave Otero’s Flatline Audio (Cobalt, Nightbringer, Cephalic Carnage), generations of doom influence are incorporated into the construct of KHEMMIS‘ Absolution, each of its six sprawling and empowering works like a conduit to the genus of the genre and together forging a venerable testament to what heavy doom rock is in 2015. Often within the scope of a single song, KHEMMIS veers effortlessly between the crushing heaviness of Southern sludge and the somber melodies of traditional doom metal, cohesively weaving the disparate styles into their own immediately recognizable form, as the dual vocal-style approach merges guttural devastation into a wholly smooth classic doom/heavy rock delivery. The album’s Fantastic Frazetta-inspired cover art was created by Sam Turner (Speedwolf, Black Breath, Trve Brewing).
20 Buck Spin will release Absolution on CD/digital on July 7th with the LP version coming in August.
