With the official unleashing of Merging In Light, the forthcoming EP from Denver doom sorcerers, IN THE COMPANY OF SERPENTS, now less than one month away, today Revolver Magazine offers up second movement, “Third Mind” for public appreciation.
Produced, mixed and mastered by Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Nightbringer, Primitive Man, Cobalt, etc.) at Flatline Audio in Denver, Colorado, Merging In Light boasts over twenty hostile minutes of bottom-heavy, riff-sodden, cheerlessness and auditory gloom. Proclaims No Clean Singing of the short but pungent crusher, “The music is tank-like in the roll of its mechanics, the guitar and bass chords so distorted and sludgy that it seems like an experiment in the most efficient means of sonic spinal compression, the drum strikes so powerful that they come down like a pile-driver on concrete. The effect is near-cataclysmic. But oh man, the groove is so dominant – these are neck-grabbing songs that will bend your head up and down to their will.” Adds Sea Of Tranquility, “the three songs rumble along with menacing intent, chock full of monstrous, dark riffs and plodding drums… in the end a really enjoyable homage to Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Electric Wizard, and Sleep.”
Comments vocalist/guitarist Grant Netzorg of the track on deck at Revolver: “‘The title for this song comes from a concept I came across when reading about William Burroughs and Brion Gysin’s work together, although the concept isn’t their invention. The idea is basically that when any two minds come together a third mind is created by their association, interplay, discourse, or whatever you want to call it, that is superior to either of the individual minds.”
