“…beautiful, eerie, uncomfortable, and all encompassing. ” – Scene Point Blank
This Friday marks the final descent of Invasion, the captivating new full-length from IIVII, an enigmatic, intergalactic solo project conjured by visual artist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Josh Graham.
As a precursor to its release today Treble is streaming the record in full. “It’s quite a bit more space-age and synth-heavy than his other projects,” issues the blog, “with compositions that sound more like the more ambient moments on Locrian records, vintage kosmische, Pinkish Black or even S U R V I V E… It’s a trippy, cosmic listen, and it feels like the perfect escape as we head into a hot and tumultuous summer.”

The follow-up to 2015’s critically-lauded Colony debut was captured entirely by Graham and centers itself on an invading species of alien origin. Focusing on sonically engulfing and moody soundscapes, layered with a science-fiction edge, IIVII (pronounced “ivy”) transcends genre confines exploring elements of drone, classical, ambient, electronica, and vaporwave. As a founding member of Red Sparowes, Battle Of Mice, and A Storm Of Light, IIVII has allowed Graham to strip away the bombast and distorted guitars, and channel the intensity and dread through subtle orchestration and manipulation of dense sonic atmospheres.
Invasion will see release this Friday, June 23rd on CD, vinyl, and digital formats via Consouling Sounds. For preorders point your browser to HERE.
Live IIVII shows mix visuals, guitar, analog and digital keyboards, cassette loops, and more. On June 29th IIVII will perform a special record release show at the renowned Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York as part of the AISA/By Norse showcase with BardSpec, featuring Enslaved composer/guitarist Ivar Bjørnson and Today Is The Day’s Steve Austin, as well as recent additions, Gnaw.

“It’s an album that constantly encourages you to ask questions, delve deeper into the music, and try and find a weird path through the ethereal melodies and throbbing rhythms. IIVII is a project that refuses to play by the rules and has managed to refine something transcendent. It’s easy to fall in love with what Josh Graham has put together here, it’s expansive but not alienating, massive in scope but not overwhelming, beautiful and guiding us towards salvation.” – Two Guys Metal Reviews
