Echoes And Dust is hosting a video premiere for “Wishful Thinking” by New Jersey prog metal trio GYRE and their explosive and dynamic new debut album, Shared Visions, which was produced by The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Kevin Antreassian. The band begins performing live in support of the record this week as well.
GYRE was formed by members of defunct metallic hardcore outfit Junta. Traces of electronic, world, and folk music that are in constant motion just under the surface of GYRE‘s output. Shared Visions surges with metallic grooves in the vein of Mastodon and Mutoid Man, infusing the progressive tendencies of Lazer/Wulf and Russian Circles, with a modern rock edge fans of Baroness, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Muse will appreciate.
GYRE‘s Ian McCartney gives some insight on the track, one of the more emotive, acoustic tracks of the record, “‘Wishful Thinking’ is a message for those that hold onto resentments and ill will (including myself). They are a disease that eats from the inside. No matter how much energy these feeling might fill you up with, it is a negative energy that needs to be expunged… This is one of two straightforward acoustic song we wanted to book end the album with on both sides. Give the listener’s ears a bit of a rest from the rock metal heaviness the other songs on Side B provide.”
McCartney discloses of the video itself, “I tried to use smoke and fire and ash to symbolically represent how these negative thoughts can build in a person and smolder into flames, but only if you let them.”

Following three well-received EPs, nearly two years of sculpting, chiseling, and capturing ideas went into Shared Visions. With fifty minutes of multi-textured explosive music, the band’s Juan Soaz recorded and produced Shared Visions, after which the band once again worked with Kevin Antreassian of The Dillinger Escape Plan at his Backroom Studios to mix and master the album.

GYRE now takes the tunes from Shared Visions to the road across the Northeastern states this summer. In July, the band will play Kingston, New York on the 13th, Clifton, New Jersey on the 22nd, and Brooklyn, New York on the 27th. August sees them back in Upstate New York for Battle Candle Fest in Warwick on the 4th, followed by a show in York, Pennsylvania on the 18th. More shows are being booked and more widespread touring is to be expected in the months ahead.
