Eolian Empire’s Summer Of Sickness Continues: BIG BLACK CLOUD, DRUNK DAD, REDNECK, HONDURAN, DIESTO, DEAD, TOWERS

Black Friday, the second LP from Portland’s avant noise-punks BIG BLACK CLOUD, drops from the sky tomorrow. Get reigned on with an exclusive stream of it over at Spin.com “in all its tense, taut, seething, screaming fury.” BIG BLACK CLOUD celebrates the release of their LP, a “fuzzed-out chord mashing, bionic low-end blasts of beautiful fuckery,” (Portland Mercury) and kicks off its tour of the West with a hometown show tomorrow night at The Know, Portland’s finest punk venue, with support from labelmates DRUNK DAD and recently tranplanted Bay Area experimental doomsters PRIZEHOG. Pick up Black Friday HERE.

Speaking of DRUNK DAD, when not day-drunkenly texting their label ridiculous requests these fuckers have been playing local shows almost nonstop before they take their dementedly heavy circus on the road with BIG BLACK CLOUD for what will no doubt prove to be an infamous tour of the West. Portland’s level of excitement for this ferocious four-piece has manifested itself in increasingly rowdier and rowdier shows, aided in part by some harsh noise (and harsh reality) from solo noisemaker REDNECK. Pay the “Scum Fee,” noise from DRUNK DAD‘s Morbid Reality 12″, over at Pitchfork RIGHT HERE or just shell out a few clams and pick it up HERE.
And speaking of REDNECK, Eolian got blasted with a few choice dabs of his long-form noise terrors recorded for the release due out late this Summer. Heavy sedation may be in order to fully process his real-time jagged-wave maximizations of live source tapes. At least he won’t be staring at you with those dead eyes when you’re at home… or will he?

On July 30th Eolian Empire will punish the peoples with Street Eagles, the new LP from local trio HONDURAN; a labyrinth of blasted beats, chunked-up chug-a-lugs, and warrior cries. Recorded by Fester (Rabbits, Nux Vomica, Knelt Rote) at Haywire Studios in Portland the LP captures the band clear, heavy, and sick like never before. Experience a brutal sonic bludgeoning in all its fine detail! Riff after riff of palm-muted madness and finger-clicking bass over a volatile bed of beats both lightning fast and super slow from three twisted technicians way down in the frontline trenches. Become a “Shitizen” of HONDURAN with some raging powerviolence by the bastards now at Cvlt Nation RIGHT HERE. Preorders for Street Eagles can be placed HERE

DIESTO just mastered the six gargantuan tracks for For Water or Blood, their first ever vinyl release, which is due August 28. With echoes of the acclaimed High As The Sun at their backs, the Portland stalwarts of heavy crawled a winding path through the woods, dragging their shifting sequences of doom riffs, strange chords, and otherworldly atmosphere behind them. And shooting just wrapped for their first music video, a mini horror flick filmed out in the Cascade Mountains and starring another local heavy metaller.

Eolian Empire tunneled through the center of the earth for its upcoming limited US pressing of Idiots from Australia’s DEAD, due out mid-August. The stateside release will coincide with DEAD playing Total Fest and a tour of the Pacific Northwest. DEAD is a bass-drums duo, two blokes with little-man syndrome punching above their weight with a massive hybrid of proto-grunge, angular noise rock, and down under swagger and experimentation. Listen to Ninehertz when they say “the gloriously entitled Idiots is a gigantic Melb Aussie vista of spectacular post rock/ doom/ thrash/ trash that you should get the fuck down with, get naked and party with.” DEAD kicks off their US trek on August 17th at Total Fest and August 18th at The Know in Portland with RABBITS and TOWERS.

For this upcoming US visit DEAD will join another monster bass-and-drums duo, Portland’s TOWERS, who are pounding away in the practice space next door, readying for for a stint at Supernatural Sound next month to record their first LP for Eolian, planned for release next year. The terrible two, last heard on the KEEP OUR HEADS compilation with “Hell”, come off like a sewer-bred spawn of punishing No Wave and minimalist psychedelia with their Cremaster cycle of droney industrial dirges, rapid-fire blasts, and mutant hooks.
