DIMINISHING: Decibel Magazine Streams The Unnamable Debut From Demoralizing Project Formed By Yatsu And Gridfailure Members; Album Sees Release Friday On Anti-Corporate Music

Decibel Magazine is hosting an advance stream of The Unnamable, the demoralizing debut album from harsh drone/post-industrial act DIMINISHING, alongside a track-by-track breakdown of the record ahead of its release through Anti-Corporate Music this Friday.

Formed in 2019 by New York-based David Brenner (Gridfailure) and Texas-based Lane Oliver (Yatsu), DIMINISHING is a tense, emotionally devastating project that paints in shades of industrial, dark ambient, drone metal, noise, and more. On The Unnamable, semi-improvisational, destructive guitar work collides with haunting atmospherics, mechanical rhythms, and walls of cacophony to create a soul-crushing sound that resides somewhere between Godflesh, Nurse With Wound, Merzbow, Khanate, and Nine Inch Nails’ The Downward Spiral, while thematically exploring existential crises, anxiety in the face of the unknown, and personal failings.

Structured with a wide range of vocals, guitars, bass, keys/synth, percussion, and pedal effects, the dense tracks on The Unnamable were performed, recorded, and mixed by David Brenner and Lane Oliver. Mastering for the album was handled by Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering (Kool Keith, Steve Von Till, Thetan), and the record is completed with photography, design, and videos created by Brenner.

The DIMINISHING creators have written a track-by-track dissection of the album which is now posted at Decibel’s website alongside their exclusive advance stream of the album, the article reading in part, “Sometimes you don’t feel like getting your head kicked in. Sometimes you maybe just wanna give your brain a swirl. DIMINISHING, an industrial, ambient drone metal duo, can help you with the latter. The new project formed by Gridfailure genius Dave Brenner and his Texas-based partner in crime, Lane Oliver (Yatsu), offers up a miasma of dark tones, distorted vocals, and dirge-psych landscapes to get lost in on their full-length debut, The Unnamable.”
