This week, AOL Music is hosting a Brent Hinds Presents: WEST END MOTEL And FIEND WITHOUT A FACE Listening Party. Check out the two-CD set, in its entirety HERE.
The Mastodon singer/guitarist explores a variety of influences across the two albums, from classic country to surf, punk, sleeze and boozy riffing, emerging at the end like a smirking cartoon roadrunner with no more damage than a morning’s headache. The albums span decades of recordings from the mid-’90s with FIEND WITHOUT A FACE to the later WEST END MOTEL material, finished earlier this year. Commented Hinds of the two projects: “FIEND WITHOUT A FACE is a rockabilly, surf-type of band, and then WEST END MOTEL is like an Americana, drunk country Shane McGowan, Tom Waits-y vibe. More of a vaudeville sound.”

FIEND WITHOUT A FACE and WEST END MOTEL will be released via Rocket Science Inc. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 (tomorrow)!
