With the most number of nominations, Taiwanese avant metal ensemble, CHTHONIC, earned Best Rock Album and Best Band awards while guitarist Jesse Liu took home the Best Musician award at Taiwan’s Golden Music Awards ceremony hosted by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture and broadcast live by Azio TV l on October 26 in Taipei.
Both Liu and bassist/band leader Doris Yeh thanked their bandmates, judges and fans. Said Yeh, “if not for the support that we give each other in the band, it would be hard for us to achieve this together.” When receiving the Best Rock Album award, lead vocalist Freddy Lim gave his thanks everyone who participated in the production of the album, including Wu Hsiung, Tang Mei-yun, Chen Ming-chang, Tsai Chen-nan, and Möbius Theatre. “We’ve completed this very challenging yet very interesting album together, he said before dedicating the album to Ng Chiau-tong, the late chairman of the World United Formosans for Independence who passed away two years ago. “We miss your charming smile a lot!”

CHTHONIC released their seventh studio recording, Bú-Tik, in North America via Spinefarm Records US June 25, 2013. Bú-Tik was recorded at Sweden’s Sweetspot Studio by producer Rickard Bengtson, who also worked on 2011’s critically-lauded Takasago Army full-length. Called “a masterful and elegant tradition served underneath soaring thrash-influenced guitars, pummeling drums and a vocal performance that is absolutely stellar from an overlooked vocalist,” by About.com, Bú-Tik is centered around the story of the 228 Massacre, the Bú-Tik Palace and the Mirror Of Retribution, and highlights what bassist Doris Yeh describes as “righteous violence, justifiable defense, and the armed spirits.” The cover image depicts the fighting spirit of a girl with albinism.
