As Years In The Garden Of Years, the second full-length from NYC-based progressive ensemble EDENSONG, nears release through Laser’s Edge at the end of the month, a new single from the record has been issued through an exclusive premiere of “The Atman Apocalypse,” which features a brief guest appearance by Adrian Belew (King Crimson, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, etc.)
Considered by the members of EDENSONG to be, “the craziest thing they’ve ever written,” the mammoth track consumes over ten minutes, delivering some of the most bombastic elements of the entire album. The band offers, “‘The Atman Apocalypse’ is a cornerstone track on Years In The Garden Of Years and the climax of the song-cycle that makes up most of the album. It takes so many of the musical themes from across the record and fuses them into the most brutal and ‘proggy’ thing we’ve probably ever written. It’s actually based on a string quartet that Tony (our drummer) wrote a few years back, which EDENSONG then spun out into an epic rock tune. It’s even got a cameo from Adrian Belew, by way of a chance encounter. We always jokingly imagined Adrian’s voice in this particular moment of the song, so it’s pretty awesome (and hilarious) that it’s actually there. Listen carefully or you’ll miss it.”

EDENSONG recently made a return to live performances and plans to play extensively in support of the Years In The Garden Of Years. The band has plotted a record release show in NYC October 2nd, with Laser’s Edge kin Infinite Spectrum, with additional dates to be announced.

Capturing over seventy minutes of new music, EDENSONG‘s Years In The Garden Of Years is even more ambitious than its predecessor, and will be sure to appeal to fans of both progressive rock and classic metal. The concept album features an extended song cycle on themes of time, each song a different scale and perspective. Given its subject matter, it therefore seems fitting that this project took the band over five years in the studio to complete. The melodies are more memorable, the riffs more powerful, the flute playing more inventive and propulsive. The songs prominently feature immersive new textures, from lush keyboard and orchestral arrangements to esoteric percussion from around the world, such as hang drum and Balinese gamelan. Years In The Garden Of Years is mastered with audiophile precision by Grammy winning engineer Bob Katz, and the deluxe CD release features stunning original cover art and booklet illustrations from beloved surrealist painter Dan May.
