THE POSTMAN SYNDROME To Release Lost Demos; Ask For Fan Preorder Support

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

On May 22nd, EAST OF THE WALL will be independently releasing the demos for what would have been THE POSTMAN SYNDROME’s second album. The band – of which four out of five members went on to EAST OF THE WALL -  released their debut LP Terraforming, on Now Or Never Records in 2002. A second album was planned but never recorded due to the label shutting down in 2004.

All of the material that would comprise the record was demoed in the band’s rehearsal space, but without funding none of it was ever professionally recorded. After a few lineup changes THE POSTMAN SYNDROME eventually surfaced as EAST OF THE WALL, released a full-length, Farmer’s Almanac, via Forgotten Empire Records, and recently announced their sophomore album Ressentiment, which will be released this July via Translation Loss. Yet the band always regretted constant limbo of the final POSTMAN SYNDROME material.

Now, five years after the intended release date, THE POSTMAN SYNDROME’s demos have been reworked, remixed, and will finally be pressed to disc. Titled God Relieve Our Grief: A Mausoleum Of Stillborn Demos, it comprises ten songs recorded in various sessions between 2003 – 2005. The tentative tracklist is as follows.

01. “Gut”
02. “Heads Below Or Tails”
03. “Water Signs”
04. “The Order Of Levin” (new drums, remix)
05. “Be Fruitless and Vanish” (new drums, remix)
06. “Sent” (aka untitled song #3)
07. “Pedovile” (remix)
08. “Beards Mahoney” (remix)
09. “It’s A Burden, I Know” (new drums, guitars, vocals, remix)
10. “The Consequence Of Cowardice” (new recording, new guest vocals by members of Fake Gimms)

Since EAST OF THE WALL is releasing the disc independently they’re asking for fan support in the form of preorders to cover the cost of the pressing. Each preorder comes with a bonus disc, a bonus DVD, a shirt, and more. Preorders are being taken now at:

The Eve Of UFOMAMMUT’s Finest Day…

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Eve - the eagerly awaited new studio album from Italy’s most cerebral and mammoth doom act UFOMMAMUT – has been completed, and is eagerly awaiting release onto the masses. Appropriately titled, Eve is the fifth official album from the obliterating trio. The album – comprised of one 45-minute atmospheric track, divided into five distinct movements – acts as a living homage to the first woman on Earth, and the rebellion to her creator for bringing knowledge to Mankind.

Recorded at Locomotore Studio in Roma, Italy by Lorenzo Stecconi (who also acted as sound lord on the band’s 2007 epic Idolum), Eve is a new step in the sonic adventure of UFOMAMMUT; another level in the band’s research. Rounding out at an incredibly action-packed 44:44, the album passes through the same massive atmospheres as Idolum, layered with mastodonic riffage as heard on the band’s Snailking release, yet also bears some of the apparition-like passages the band displayed so well on their Lucifer Songs LP, while still formulating a forward-thinking approach to the release. Check out a video montage of the making of this monstrosity here:

UFOMAMMUT’s status as one of the most potent, powerful and artistic contemporary doom artists in existence continues to captivate the masses, and the band’s worldwide grasp grows wider with each release. With continual appearances at Roadburn and other notable Euro fests under their belt, and intermittent regional European touring already something the band is used to, the band are set on more widespread actions in 2010. UFOMAMMUT made their American live debut in 2009, when they undertook a west coast mini-tour, coinciding with an art tour bearing works born of the trio’s own world famous Malleus Rock Art Lab. More live plans for both continents are imminent throughout the year.

To be released worldwide on May 5th via Malleus’ own Supernatural Cat Records, Eve is an undeniably infectious and utterly devastating piece of doom metal art that shall surely be a major player for the year. Watch for more announcements on the band throughout the year.

“You can expect to hear a lot of acts come down the pike in the next couple years who sound an awful lot like this, but however many imitators crop up here and there, I doubt very much if any of them will be able to match Ufomammut’s presence, creative drive, or tonal weight. Consider yourself lucky to be alive while something like this is being released.” -

“…this is the best album Ufomammut have ever done, and there’s a good chance doom might not be the same again.”

ANAAL NATHRAKH Side Project Announced

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Bleeding Through’s Brandan Schieppatti has joined forces with musical polymath Mick Kenney of ANAAL NATHRAKH to create Sorrows.

The two musically minded neighbors joined forces in Huntington Beach, California in October 2009 to collaborate on this new musical project. The resulting album is, in Mick’s own words, “a mixture of hardcore crustpunk, black metal, electronic beats and super heavy riffage.”

The album has been written and produced by Mick, with Brandan taking on the vocalist mantle once again. Although still recruiting members for the live line up, they have already drafted in Trevor Friedrich (formerly of 18 Visions, and now of industrialists Combichrist), on drums, whilst Mick will play guitar.

Sorrows have uploaded tracks onto their myspace, which are taken from their full length album, which is fully recorded; the band are currently seeking a label.

Candlelight Records Kicks Off Ninth Year Of American Operations With Early Year Sales Success

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Candlelight Records, this year celebrating nine years of operations in North America, is enjoying its most successful early year sales launch with the recent release and Billboard chart entries with new albums from IHSAHN and FEAR FACTORY. With records currently holding top album positions on both CMJ and FMQB radio charts, the cover of Decibel Magazine’s March issue, and upcoming touring activities for a number of the label’s wide-range of artists which include appearances at the annual South By Southwest Music Conference, Candlelight owners Edward Christie and Steve Beatty are excited about the continued growth of the label’s American division.

Edward Christie says, “this has been a team effort from all our artists, Caroline Distribution/EMI Music, Heavy Hitter, EarsplitPR, Paula Hogan and her staff in our US office. I thank them all for this achievement. Steve [Beatty], Paula and myself have all had the long term in mind and this success has come from our perseverance and the quality of the music we release.”

After, the third solo album from former Emperor vocalist IHSAHN was released on January 26th. The album debuted at position 31 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and has topped CMJ’s Loud Rock report for the past three weeks. In addition, the album has seen increased regional sales over the highly respected musician’s 2005 and 2007 solo recordings, placing in the top ten of New England-based retailer Newbury Comics for both first day and first week sales. Amarillo, Texas-based Hastings Entertainment has also seen healthy sales since its release. Rock buyer Kristal Huff comments, “Candlelight Records has always been a key metal label for Hastings and keeps bringing us the music our customers want. 2010 has started strong with the great success we’ve seen on both IHSAHN and FEAR FACTORY. This with continued sales on ABSU and ABIGAIL WILLIAMS, this year will only be getting better for metal at Hastings.”

Released February the, FEAR FACTORY’S Mechanize represents the label’s first entry on Billboard’s Top 100 chart; the album landing at position 72 with over ten thousand first week sales. Enjoying extensive radio airplay since impacting in mid-November with lead single “Powershifter,” FEAR FACTORY has been a Top 10 artist for the past three months on both CMJ and FMQB charts. Mechanize has held the number one position for weekly tip sheet FMQB for the last two weeks. The album is also enjoying healthy Canadian sales. EMI Music Director/Associated Labels Division Tony Tarleton comments, “it was with great pride that I gave the news to Candlelight that Mechanize entered the Canadian Soundscan chart at position 67. It is the label’s first chart entry in Canada. The set-up by the label was flawless. Through excellent use of fan sites and social networking tools, Canadian fans had very high awareness of the album’s release and it showed.”

Candlelight Records launched its American operations in January 2001 with the label’s first releases following in April. The label has since enjoyed consistent growth improving overall sales and label profile adding to its promotional staff and expanding its international artist roster. Continuing to push IHSAHN and FEAR FACTORY, in the coming months, Candlelight is set to participate in distribution partner Caroline Distribution/EMI Music’s second annual “March Is Metal” month. The genre-specific retail program unites new and key catalog releases with in-store/online promotions at both indie and national retailers nationwide.  Specially branded samplers and posters will be featured items at targeted retailers including Bullmoose Music, Dimple Records, Rasputin’s, Newbury Comics, Zia, Vintage Vinyl, Independent Records, Silver Platters, Exclusive Company, plus select FYE stores and online partner Candlelight will include IHSAHN and FEAR FACTORY alongside top selling albums from label artists ABIGAIL WILLIAMS, ABSU, ANAAL NATHRAKH, THE ATLAS MOTH, DAYLIGHT DIES, DEFIANCE, HAVOK, INSOMNIUM, OBITUARY, RAMMING SPEED and SUSPERIA.

Candlelight will next release the sophomore record from New England-based THE BREATHING PROCESS on March 23. Produced by Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage), Odyssey: (Un)Dead showcases the band’s hybrid of symphonic black metal and brutal death metal. Already proven road warriors, clocking touring time with the likes of Full Blown Chaos, Oceano, The Ghost Inside and labelmates ABIGAIL WILLIAMS, the band have a series of regional dates that will continue up till the album’s release date. This will be followed by the May 18 release of the new album from England’s OCTOBER FILE. Our Souls To Yours will be released as a special 2CD package including remixes by Godflesh’s Justin Broadrick.

FEAR FACTORY recently announced their first run of American dates yesterday. Tickets for all performances go on sale exclusively via today with general ticket sales going live via all ticket agencies in the coming week. The band is set to perform at Revolver Magazine’s Golden God Awards in Los Angeles on April 8. The band has been nominated in two categories for this year’s ceremony.  Additional Candlelight artists with recently announced tours include Chicago-based THE ATLAS MOTH (alongside Coalesce and Harvey Milk) and Denver-based HAVOK (alongside Hammerfall in early April and Primal Fear in May). See tour dates below.

The label has a working promotion staff of six and is distributed exclusively in North America by Caroline Distribution/EMI Music.  European distribution is exclusive via Plastic Head Music Distribution. The label’s North American gross sales tops twelve million and continues to grow steadily. Mark Hudson from Transworld Entertainment notes, “we are doing really well with both the IHSAHN and FEAR FACTORY records. It is clear to me that Candlelight continues to develop and improve their roster, and that their brand is one that is well respected and trusted as a sign of quality by our metal customers.” Larry Mansdorf from Newbury Comics adds, “Candlelight really seems to be on to something…The success of their new releases by FEAR FACTORY and IHSAHN, coupled with strong sales of core metal catalog like Opeth, Electric Wizard and Emperor, have really placed Candlelight alongside the leaders of the genre.”

GOLD: Before Woodstock. Beyond Reality. Coming To DVD on March 23

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

A turned-on tale of the new American dream featuring a soundtrack with unreleased music from the MC5…

Wild Eye Releasing and MVD Visual are pleased to announce the release of GOLD: Before Woodstock. Beyond Reality. for North American distribution on March 23. Considered a “lost” film for 40 years, GOLD has been found again… This is its first time ever on any form of home video.

In 1968, filmmaker Bob Levis led a rag-tag band of dreamers, drop outs and drug-happy darlings into the wilderness to make a movie and emerged months later with GOLD, a bizarre and beautiful journey into the mind and madness of the late 1960s – one overflowing with fantasies of revolution, recreation and raunchy free love. At once a western, a comedy, a nudie, a drama and a musical – GOLD is a profound potpourri made in the spirit of shaking down square society, while systematically shattering every movie rule in the process. But then the film vanished, lost like the generation from which it came… Until now.

Starring the father of improvisational comedy Del Close (The Untouchables, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Garry Goodrow (Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, The Hollywood Knights), and fueled by the hard kickin’ sounds of the MC5 and more, GOLD is a tawdry and twisted testament to a time when the world was ready for change, and the counter-culture set out to turn it upside-down.

In the current Hollywood film Pirate Radio (Focus) – the character played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman is based on Ronan O’Rahilly (Radio Caroline) – who produced the movie GOLD and got the MC5 in the movie since he was their tour manager ‘70 to ‘71.

Track Listing:
David McWilliams – Gold
Ramblin’ Jack Elliot – Farther Along
Ramblin’ Jack Elliot (with Tony Brown) – All that Glitters
