VREID: Norwegian Black ‘N’ Roll Tyrants Prepare for North American Assault Next Week

In just a little over a week, Norwegian black ‘n’ roll legion VREID will take their sonic mayhem to North America alongside headliners Melechesh. Set to commence June 16 in Los Angeles, California, the long-awaited roadside assault includes over two weeks of live devastation, concluding in Brooklyn, New York on June 30. Additional support will come from Lightning Swords Of Death and Reign Of Lies.

Comments bassist Hváll of the upcoming journey: “We are thrilled to return to the Wild West; it will be a blast! We have had some great shows over there before, and can’t wait to return. We have our best album freshly released, and are ready to unleash these new songs plus old warrior themes for you. Unfortunately our rock solid drummer Steingrim has to sit out this tour due to work-related issues. He will surely be missed, but we have been aware of this for a while and have the perfect replacement for him. Tomas Myklebust will join us for this tour. Myklebust is a maestro drummer who did the UK tour with us last year when we toured with Paradise Lost. He did a splendid job then, and has worked his ass off rehearsing the new material. Hope to see you on the road.”

VREID will be touring in support of their punishing Welcome Farewell full-length released in North American via Indie Recordings on March 5, 2013. Commended by Decibel Magazine for “expanding their battleground, refining their attacks, and planting their flag square in the skulls of weaker genre purists,” and appropriately dubbed “energetic, infectious, virulently catchy, and furiously, belligerently aggressive,” by No Clean Singing, Welcome Farewell was recorded at bassist Hváll’s own Studio 1184 and is easily the band’s most potent work to date.

Formed in 2004 following the demise of ”Sognametal” legends Windir and described by Metal Hammer UK as a “unique time-travel in metal,” VREID seamlessly merge the prime tenets of ’70s rock, ’80s classic metal and Norwegian black metal into a difficult-to-pinpoint, expertly arranged sound implosion. Notorious for their well-researched, historically-inspired lyrics, the band’s third and fourth offerings, I Krig and Milorg, were both concept albums based around the liberation work in Norway during World War II. Liberation was also the keyword on VREID‘s last offering, V, but placed in a broader historical/philosophic perspective. The lyrics on Welcome Farewell describe a lifecycle through a series of short stories, seen from an existential point of view and, inspired by Hváll’s own local community with its nature, architecture and historical artists such as Arne Garborg and Otto Valstad, are more personal than ever before.

“…a cold, dark record that perfectly embodies the loneliness and harshness of the thematic life cycle held within the lyrics.? — Metal Insider

“Welcome Farewell is one more step along a road that will help cast VREID‘s legacy in the darkest stone,” – Ave Noctum

VREID is more than melodeath, beyond black and roll, and forging a route to greatness. Welcome Farewell is honest and sincere, fun and adventurous, daring and disciplined…,” – Last

“a black metal time bomb packed with fearsome riffage, punishing grooves and masterful fretwork,” — Joedaly.net

“…an incredibly solid disc that offers a little of everything. If you like a good balance, where the black metal has a unique atmosphere and identity without diving all the way into the symphonic realm, definitely give this one a listen.” – Metal Underground

VREID have done it again, coming up with a great record that keeps you tied into the storyline and once again refining their style of black metal.” – MeatMeadMetal

“…brilliant blackened death metal…” – LouderThanHell.net

“…a terrific album that successfully takes VREID’s black ‘n’ roll formula to its next logical step.” – Teeth Of The Divine
