Today Is The Day’s STEVE AUSTIN will take his new country act out on their first full-on tour in September and October alongside Ramblin’ Ricky Tate. Alongside the news of the tour, a new video for “The Rain Keeps Comin’ Down” has also been released.
STEVE AUSTIN released the debut LP for his new outlaw country outfit, Marked Cards And Loaded Dice, on his own SuperNova Records in May, with AUSTIN handling guitar, bass, and vocals, drummer Colin Frecknall, legendary pedal steel master Dana Flood (Hall Of Fame sideman for Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, and George Jones), and fiery fiddle virtuoso Ryu Bennett. Just two months later, his installment of The Magnolia Sessions was released by Anti-Corp Music in July, which saw AUSTIN performing solo.
While STEVE AUSTIN has performed live over the past year, both with full-band lineups and solo sets, the first official tour for the project is now approaching. Joined by fellow alumni of The Magnolia Sessions Ramblin’ Ricky Tate, the tour will launch out of Portland, Maine on September 20th, and will trek through the heartland of the US and back to the Northeast, ending in Boston on October 6th.
“It’s gonna’ be a wild time,” AUSTIN writes. “I’m excited to hit the road, playing these songs with my buddies, seeing everybody, and rocking the fuck out. We’re gonna’ be playing the entire Marked Cards And Loaded Dice album, as well as songs from The Magnolia Sessions record, and a few secret jams in there as well! My son Hank Austin is thumping on the bass and Pat Kennedy (UXO) will be putting his foot the through floor on the drums, with some surprise special guests at various shows on the tour.”
He continues, “I’m super psyched to have Ramblin’ Ricky Tate as main support. Ricky’s real and delivers his jams straight from the heart. Rounding it out, there’s a goldmine of great local artists that will be opening up, all along the way. I’m truly fortunate for all the folks that reached out and wanted to be a part of this very special tour.”
With the new video, AUSTIN states, “To kick off the tour, we’re releasing the fourth video from Marked Cards And Loaded Dice today, for ‘The Rain Keeps Comin’ Down,’ produced and directed by Hank Austin and Alex Sulock in Maine. This is one of my favorite songs from the album. I wrote it for my Austin family in Tennessee. We lost two of our family members within a week before Christmas. The song is dedicated to my Aunt Magloo Austin and my cousin Dale Austin, her son. It was hard losing them. Destroyed, I sat down and started playing this song trying to make sense of it all. I love the song and it’s my tribute to my Austin family.”
