Decibel Magazine is now streaming “Trampled By Light,” the first single from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania sludge/grind trio SECRET CUTTER‘s second album, Quantum Eraser. The new track is issued with preorders for the album as the band begins to announce tour dates supporting the release.
SECRET CUTTER‘s 2014 debut LP, Self Titled, was critically acclaimed for its eclectic songwriting and heaviness. Now, after a nearly four-year wait, the band returns with the decimating Quantum Eraser. A feedback-laden mindfuck, boiling with intensity, the eleven tracks on Quantum Eraser deliver an immeasurable seismic attack delivered with by-the-throat conviction. The album was recorded by drummer Jared Stimpfl at Captured Recordings Studio (Jesus Piece, Ultra Mantis Black), mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Integrity, Obituary), and completed with cover art by Thomas Hooper (Neurosis, Converge).
With the debut of “Trampled By Light,” SECRET CUTTER issues, “The second track on the record, ‘Trampled By Light,’ is our favorite song to play live. On this song we examine the horrible reality of being ‘the last one to see the truth.’ The murderous rage of the vocals and the almost mechanical drone riffing and percussion of the verse is the best representative of what we as a band are trying to achieve.”
Decibel offers with the song, “the trio take the sharp edge of grindcore and fuse it with the harsh ugliness of sludge metal. Jumping from lumbering, sludgy parts to blistering grind, SECRET CUTTER operate in a place between the two sounds, always backed by vocalist Ekim’s screeching vocals and a penchant for rowdy, destructive music.”

For a decade SECRET CUTTER has steadily built a reputation for their unique genre-bending vision for sludge and grindcore. Their sound is at once familiar, utilizing the blueprint of Floor or Eyehategod, but conveyed through a distorted lens that is as original as it is heavy. The minimalist three-piece — vocalist Ekim, drummer Jared Stimpfl, and guitarist Evan Morey — has created a crushingly heavy, angry sound that is solely their own.
