Sensory Records has issued the details for the newest album by Italian progressive metal/rock sextet KINGCROW, titled The Persistence, set for worldwide release on September 7th via Sensory Records in conjunction with the band’s European tour supporting Pain Of Salvation.

KINGCROW‘s upcoming third album for Sensory Records, The Persistence closes a three-year gap since their acclaimed Eidos album. Describing KINGCROW today is quite a difficult task, but one could state that the influence of different kinds of music; progressive rock, alternative rock, ambient music, metal, and more are all present in the band’s songs. With each release, they take a step further away from their original roots and is regarded today as one of the most exciting bands that Italy has to offer.

Recorded at Sound Under Pressure, The Persistence was produced by KINGCROW‘s Diego and Thundra Cafolla, mixed by Giampiero Ulacco, and completed with the photography and design of Devilnax, all the same as the album’s predecessor.

Diego Cafolla offers, “With the last record, Eidos, we finished what we call the ‘life trilogy’ which included Phlegethon, In Crescendo, and Eidos, and when we started talking about the new chapter everyone agreed we needed somehow to step a bit outside of our confort zone and refresh our sound. With that in mind, I started to write a lot of music, which ended up being three hours of music more or less, trying different things until I came up with a couple of songs that sounded interesting and fresh to us and showcased the ‘X factor’ of the new record. ‘Everything Goes’ and ‘Devil’s Got A Picture’ were the first two written. These early songs sounded different from what we did in the past but still somehow sounding like us, with a kind of a dark ambient, more modern vibe mixed with a heavier rock attitude. Devilnax was also determined to have a different cover style for the album, and after nights spent listening to the demos and discussing the lyrical content, for the first time all by vocalist Diego Marchesi, he came up with that very powerful image that fits beautifully with the main vibe of The Persistence.”

The Persistence will be released on CD, 2xLP, and digital formats worldwide on September 7th via Sensory Records. The vinyl version features three bonus tracks recorded at ProgPower USA have a new mastering by Alan Douches on the D-side. Stand by for audio samples, preorders, and more info on the album to be issued shortly. Fans of Steven Wilson, Riverside, and Dream Theater, this is required listening.

The release of The Persistence is tied in conjunction to KINGCROW‘s support slot for Pain Of Salvation, which will run from August 31st through September 20th.

The first incarnation of KINGCROW was originally founded in Rome, Italy, by Diego Cafolla (guitars) and Manuel Thundra Cafolla (drums) under the name Earth Shaker. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem The Raven, and driven by a will of change, the band’s name was soon altered into KINGCROW and a couple of self-produced demos/albums where recorded under the new moniker; Something Unknown (2001), Insider (2004), and Timetropia (2006). Diego Cafolla described these early self-produced albums as “public experiments” and consider them as “extended demos” versus official albums. In 2007 and 2008, together with new bassist Angelo Orlando and the new keyboard player Cristian Della Polla, and guitar player Ivan Nastasi, the band performed several live shows at the biggest Italian hard rock-heavy metal music festivals including the famous Gods Of Metal alongside Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

In February 2009, during the recording sessions for the new album, Francesco D’Errico (bass) joined the band. Also Mauro decided to leave the band due to personal reasons, and was substituted by Diego Marchesi, a singer with outstanding vocal skills. In the same year the band signed a contract with the Intromental Management booking agency.

In the early months of 2010, the band finished recording their new album Phlegethon which was released in June of the same year through Scarlet Records. Phlegethon was a new exciting concept, and, according to the band, the new disc found them, “exploring paths of progressive rock and metal we’ve never ventured.” It was considered on an international level as a relevant masterpiece and was classed as one of the elite albums of the year. It has been near the top of the charts in some international prog-rock websites. Phlegethon‘s promotion lasted for about two years and a half. In early 2011, several shows were performed in Italy, followed by a European tour in October as a supporting band of California-based Redemption, lead by Ray Alder of Fates Warning. In the summer of 2012, KINGCROW took part in another European tour as a supporting band of Jon Oliva’s Pain with the ex-Savatage artist. In 2011 they performed at ProgPower Europe in Baarlo, Netherlands, and in 2012 at the famous ProgPower USA in Atlanta, Georgia.

During the same year, KINGCROW recorded the new album In Crescendo which was released in February 2013 by American label Sensory Records. A new conceptual album, In Crescendo is a record in which sweet and gloomy atmospheres are perfectly combined with a solid and heavy sound, heavier than the previous records. The band toured alongside Pain Of Salvation in North America in April and May of 2013.

In 2015, KINGCROW released the follow-up album, Eidos, and toured Europe as headliners. Immediately following the tour, Francesco D’Errico decided to leave the band to concentrate on his private life. Meanwhile, the band signed a management deal with GlassVille Music, house of very well know progressive acts like Pain Of Salvation and Riverside among others, and have since set to work to record what is their newest album, The Persistence.
