Carbonized Records are pleased to reissue the Scapulimancy full-length and Sepulchral Lacerations from oldschool Canadian death metal merchants HEDONIST on cassette and CD respectively.
The ancient stench of war follows HEDONIST on their campaign of destruction! Formed in 2020, this four-piece old school death metal band hails from Victoria, BC, and brings forth a ferocious exhibition of power amidst morbid undercurrents of disaster in the vein of Bolt Thrower, Nihilist, Entombed, and Dismember where death takes bearing on the facade of life. Their music is characterized by “grave-deep-growls’’ and technical riffing.
The band released their Sepulchral Lacerations Demo in 2021. Four years later, they unleashed their debut full-length, Scapulimancy, through Southern Lord Recordings. Upon first impression of the release, Cvlt Nation wrote, “Every moment of this record bleeds unhinged passion and screams death hymns galore,” while Meat Mead Metal hailed, “A motherfucker of a great death metal album, and our new favorite band in this always morphing sub-genre.” Metal Forces concurred, “HEDONIST bristles with attitude and edge filtered through oxidized gauze whereby songs such as ‘Engines Of War’ choke on their own thick plumes, initially almost traditional metal in its measured opening and then loping with devastating stamps of the drum. The percussion kicks even harder on ‘Profanation’, another world war riot that reduces its audience to a pile of charred bones.”
Scapulimancy was recorded and mixed by Cody Baresich at Circle A Studios with drum tracking by Derek Mattin at Silverside Sound, pre-mastering by Julian Marrs at Marrs Audio and mastering by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege with artworks by Adam Kindred.
Sepulchral Lacerations was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Circle A Studios and features artwork by Adam Kindred.
