Hymns For The Denial Of God, the long awaited new full-length from Rhode Island’s DREAMWELL, is out today on Prosthetic Records!

On Hymns For The Denial Of God, the group tightly harnesses the turbulence of torrential screams, off-kilter riffing, and pit-splitting rhythms into a provocative, poignant, and poetic ten-track collection. Of their “Carrion Birds On The Ark” single, Knotfest hailed, “a confrontational, caustic three-minute burst that frames the sonic power of the Providence unit.” Elsewhere the sentiment is similar.

Writes Boolin Tunes in a 9/10 review of the record, “The pull is real metalcore and even more real blasphemy….Much of the anger that overflows from [vocalist] K.Z. Staska is directed towards those that use their faith as a cudgel, preaching from their self-certified moral high ground with a doctrine that is demonstrably racist, sexist, and oppressive. In turn, DREAMWELL’s righteous voice is amplified like never before with a turn towards heaviness. It’s screamo-centric as ever, with their influences from across the punk and extreme metal spectrum but now incorporates the tastefully-executed sound of 2000s metalcore on several tracks. Tighter song lengths and a focused runtime of 34 minutes also make this record the short, sharp, and sweet DREAMWELL album – highly welcome in their discography. Whereas their prior themes spoke emotively in ‘woe is me’ terms, this album is full force ‘woe upon you.

Out Of Rage lauds, “a fantastic screamo album,” adding, “the lyrical content, the visceral anger present in almost every line, and the nasty breakdowns are the spirit of emotional hardcore.” No Clean Singing notes, “Hymns For The Denial Of God is unquestionably a bleaker, angrier album than either of its predecessors – as befits its tighter focus on religious hypocrisy and weaponised faith – that presents a more aggressively in-your-face and, arguably (though not entirely), less introverted/introspective version of the band.”

Further elaborates Idioteq, “Across ten tracks, they direct the instability of their screams, crooked riffs, and mosh parts towards organised religion, the violence committed in its name and the idea that belief automatically confers morality.”

DREAMWELL has incited both a catharsis amongst a growing fan base and the applause of tastemakers since emerging in 2020. They organically evolved from Modern Grotesque (2021) to In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You (2023). Flood Magazine praised how the latter, “twists the heavy-rock genre Rubik’s cube to introduce more confrontational metalcore sounds into the equation,” while Stereogum highlighted the lead single and attested, “‘Obelisk Of Hands’ takes DREAMWELL’s sound in an epic metalcore direction before going full-on screamo meltdown at the end.” Beyond further praise from ChaosHour with Matt Heafy, Loudwire, Knotfest, and The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle, BrooklynVegan raved, “In My Saddest Dreams, I Am Beside You is a post-hardcore triumph.”

In 2026, DREAMWELL turned their attention towards what would become Hymns For The Denial Of God. The group wrote together during in-person rehearsals, tapping into their chemistry. They also returned to Silver Bullet Studios in Connecticut in order to record with producer Chris Teti.

Everything boils down to intent. In the wrong hands, social constructs like religion will divide us and diminish our potential for unity. DREAMWELL unravels the contradictions, complications, and conflicts inherent within the misuse and weaponization of faith in a higher power on their third full-length offering, Hymns For The Denial Of God. Rather than levy a black-and-white attack against religion, the Rhode Island quartet — vocalist Keziah “KZ” Staska, guitarist/backing vocalist Ryan Couitt, bassist Justin Soares, and drummer Anthony Montalbano — considers the nuances and what happens when an entity meant to unite ends up driving us apart.
