No Clean Singing is currently streaming AMAROK’s “Legacy,” as remixed by Andrew Black (live Mizmor / Hell). The track comes by way of the band’s upcoming Overcome full-length, a massive double album featuring remixed and reimagined tracks by members of Vastum, Primitive Man, Gridfailure, and more, set for release on September 25th through Canada’s Hypaethral Records.
Released in 2024, the double album Resilience stands as AMAROK‘s most fully realized statement to date. A deeply personal meditation on climate catastrophe, existential dread, grief, and perseverance, the album transforms crushing heaviness into a powerful expression of endurance and hope in the face of overwhelming darkness. Decibel Magazine hailed a, “massive, slow-burn offering,” while BrooklynVegan lauded its distinct brand of “slow-paced, heavy/beautiful post-metal.”
In 2026, AMAROK returns to Resilience with Overcome, a companion 2xCD featuring ten remixed and reimagined interpretations of the album by artists from across the experimental and extreme metal spectrum. Featuring contributions from Ethan Lee McCarthy (Primitive Man), Leila Abdul-Rauf (Vastum), Andrew Black (Mizmor / Hell), and others, Overcome reframes the emotional core of Resilience through diverse sonic perspectives, revealing new dimensions within its towering compositions while remaining true to the album’s central themes of transformation and survival.
Comments Black on the remix of “Legacy,” “I am so grateful to have had the privilege of working on this release. ‘Legacy’ perfectly encapsulates the funeral greatness that is and has always been Amarok. Soul crushing, heartbreaking, sensitive but brutal. It just hurts so good. All I wanted to do with my contribution was showcase how touching the main chord progression is while not fucking it up.”
Writes No Clean Singing in part, “Black’s version strips away the original’s enormous bass undulations and slow, bone-vibrating drums, which is one reason why it sounds so much more mystical and reverent. He also brings in ringing piano keys with a less-than-perfect tone to carry the core melody to a conclusion. That inspired choice really creates a stunning finale that will stay with you. It’s a brilliant re-conception of the original song. Even at roughly half the length of the original, if you’re not feeling at least a bit choked-up by the end of this we’ll be surprised.”

An epic doom and black metal project based in Northern California, AMAROK combines the sustained drones and crushing weight of doom metal with the intricate melodies, layered guitar harmonies, and blistering intensity of black metal. Taking their name from the giant wolf of Inuit mythology – a creature said to be capable of ripping a person’s soul from their body – AMAROK channels immense sonic power into music that is both emotionally devastating and spiritually transcendent.
Their self-titled debut full-length, a monumental work of funeral doom, was released in 2011. In the years that followed, the band collaborated with friends across the extreme metal underground on a series of split releases before unveiling the ambitious 2xLP Devoured in 2018, further refining their expansive and immersive sound. Each release explores different facets of the band’s nature-inspired themes, with every epic composition representing a chapter in an ongoing story of transcendence, marked by a continuous Roman numeral sequence.
Overcome will be released as a 2xCD (Ltd. 200) and digitally. Additionally, a CD edition of Resilience, limited to 200 copies, will also be available.
