ACROSS TUNDRAS To Release New LP On Band’s Own Label

Friday, May 17th, 2013

Following their lauded Sage album, released in 2011 by Neurot Recordings, the new LP from Nashville trio ACROSS TUNDRAS is set for harvest on the band’s newly founded D.I.Y. label.

On the new LP Electric Relics, ACROSS TUNDRAS take their ever-expanding style of modern Americana further into the same westerly direction they’ve been traversing for the past few years, organically fusing their swells of post-doom into Spaghetti Western soundtracks and meandering blues/rock jam sessions. A wide variety of sounds seamlessly mingle throughout the slow motion base founding guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Tanner Olson, percussionist Casey Perry and bassist/vocalist Mikey Allred (Hellbender) lay down, Allred also contributing pianos/organs, synthesizers, mellotron, trombone and more, and his brother Joey (Hellbender) contributing guest slide guitar and vocals. Additionally, Perry hand constructed the scale model landscape for the cover art, with Olson handling the graphic design and layout. ACROSS TUNDRAS recorded Electric Relics at their expansive Ramble Hill Farm in February, and is releasing it on their own label of the same name, making it a fully self-managed D.I.Y. release.

As the band states: “Electric Relics is our humble offering placed at the crossroads of past, present, and future tense. Age-old energies and three phase electric power intersect to reveal hidden truths of bygone times, modern mysticisms, and sound the alarm for uncertain days to come. We walk through this shadowy land in search of a spark to light the fire and illuminate the depths of consciousness.”

Electric Relics is available for free/name-your-price download now via Bandcamp, where orders for the deluxe vinyl edition — being pressed on 180-gram virgin vinyl and bearing gatefold jackets — can also be placed. Stream and pick up the album HERE.

In support of the album, ACROSS TUNDRAS are hooking up with their cohorts in Hellbender for a Western U.S. tour, kicking off with a hometown show on June 6th and winding out through the West Coast and back through the Midwestern states.

ÅRABROT/RABBITS Split Streaming At Invisible Oranges; Sixth ARABROT Album To See Release Via Fysisk Format

Friday, May 17th, 2013

Oregon’s RABBITS and Norway’s ÅRABROT continue to co-pummel audiences across Europe on their ongoing brutal trek, touring in support of their new split 7” release, available now via Tiger (Europe) and Eolian Empire (USA). To spread the vile news, today Invisible Oranges is streaming the noisemangled split release, RIGHT HERE.

On the raging split release, Norway’s ever-morphing ÅRABROT meets Portland’s sludge-punk kings RABBITS, as if twins separated at birth with a psychic connection that spans a continent and ocean, both acts have mired themselves in the most base elements of rock and rebuilt these primitive pieces into music of violent, raw beauty. ÅRABROT’s “Blood On Bunny” (no dig at their split partners, they swear) is part industrial, part noise-rock, part sludge and all disturbing, while RABBITS’s “Yr In Luck” shifts between swinging, rolling, droning versus to grinding choruses, interspersed and ending with a pummeling dirge; like two fucked-up sides of the same shitty coin. The split will be pressed on mega-heavy 70-gram wax — a split release with Rabbits’ label Eolian Empire and Arabrot’s Norwegian label Fysisk Format.

“Blood On Bunny,” Fysisk Format confirms, is the first single from the pending self-titled LP from ÅRABROT, the act’s massive sixth full-length to date. The label will release more info on Årabrot in the coming weeks, while the band takes to the road with Black Cobra and Bison B.C. on a rampage through France, UK, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Austria.

SECRETS OF THE SKY: Oakland Prog-Doom Act Signs With Kolony Records

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

Italy’s Kolony Records has just added Oakland, California-based progressive doom metal sextet SECRETS OF THE SKY to the label’s ever-expanding roster.

Three of the band’s six members each contributing with multiple instruments, SECRETS OF THE SKY projects a unique brand of cinematic, cerebral, atmospheric metal with a heavy persuasion towards doom metal and even more blackened influences citing The Ocean, Opeth, Isis, Agalloch and others.

The debut album from this new but skilled act, To Sail Black Waters, was recorded over an eight month period with engineer/producer Juan Urteaga (Testament, Machine Head, Cattle Decapitation) at Trident Studios, the massive album boasting SECRETS OF THE SKY’s entirely modern and unique back-bending of elements from a multitude of genres. With up to three guitar tracks, two and three keyboards at a time and a multitude of vocal styles — clean and epic lines against hollow and blackened battle cries and crushing, low-end growls — the band creates huge buildups and epic movements as expansive as the cosmos.

To Sail Black Waters caught the attention of Kolony Records, who have inked a deal with SECRETS OF THE SKY, and are planning for a proper, official worldwide CD and digital release of the album late this Summer, the street date to be announced in the coming days.

Having performed throughout the Bay Area since early 2012, alongside killer acts from the region including Black Cobra, Saviours and more, SECRETS OF THE SKY will share the stage with KEN Mode and the mighty Torche at a hometown show at the Oakland Metro Operahouse this Tuesday, May 21st. Stay tuned for much more on SECRETS OF THE SKY over the coming months.

COFFINS: First Carnage From Relapse Debut Issued Via “The Vacant Pale Vessel” Lyric Video

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

The first whiff of The Fleshland, the fourth LP from Tokyo-based graverobbers, COFFINS, is permeating the air today, as the label has exhumed the first single from the album. Constructed for the massive more than six-and-a-half minute “The Vacant Pale Vessel,” the lyric video animates the gorestrewn cover illustration of The Fleshland as executed by the gruesome hands of Chris Moyen (Morbosidad, Black Witchery, Incantation, Blasphemy, etc.), as he has so morbidly done with all of COFFINS previous albums as well.

Explore the foul deathcrush of “The Vacant Pale Vessel” right here:

Easily one of the most awaited death/doom albums of 2013, The Fleshland is the first proper studio album from COFFINS since their commended Buried Death album, released by 20 Buck Spin in 2008, and first official album for Relapse Records. Recorded at Tokyo’s Noise Room Studio with engineer Shigenori Kobayashi, and produced by Bungo Uchino and the rest of COFFINS, The Fleshland shows the revamped and expanded band lineup smashing down everything in their path, having upped the lineup from a trio to a quartet with a new drummer and full-time vocalist since Buried Death. Nine grisly numbers thunder with the unbeatable mid-paced COFFINS stomp, laying down over forty-five minutes of bruising low-end sludge-infiltrated, plodding doom with possibly the best production values in the band’s meaty catalog of carnage.

Relapse will release The Fleshland via CD, download and mammoth 2xLP on July 9th. A deluxe black and white artwork edition on 2xLP, Cassette and CD is available only via Relapse direct. Preorder package are available HERE.

COFFINS have also confirmed a massive string of live performances across Japan and much of Europe on tour for the coming months including major festivals including Brutal Assault, Party San Metal Open Air, Leperfest and more, with additional excursions being devised. Stay tuned for more info on the The Fleshland as well as 2013 live actions for COFFINS to be released in the coming weeks.

STEVE VON TILL: Debut Solo Album To See First-Ever Vinyl Pressing

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

As the out-of-print debut solo album from Neurosis’ STEVE VON TILL, As The Crow Flies, sees a long-awaited re-release this month, Neurot Recordings proudly confirms the seminal album’s first-ever vinyl edition.

Initially released in 2000, marking the first non-Neurosis recording on the Neurot roster, STEVE VON TILL’s As The Crow Flies is now available on CD once again, as the label this week re-releases the album into the population precisely thirteen years later. Bearing updated artwork and packaging from the initial release, the nearly forty-five minute composition bears a vast contrast to Neurosis’ massive, plodding riffing and percussion, instead feeling more like a mental excursion into the outer realms of consciousness; an ambient, eclectic, organic and overall honest harvest from the mind of its creator.

Neurot this week also announces the pending first-ever LP edition of As The Crow Flies, now slated to land late this Summer. This deluxe 180-gram vinyl pressing of the album will be limited to 500 pieces and will be available direct through Neurot only. An official late Summer release date will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

SIX REASONS TO KILL: New Album From German Metalcore Kings Out Now On Massacre Records

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

Following its massive European release in late March, We Are Ghosts — the fifth full-length from reigning German metalcore quintet SIX REASONS TO KILL — now hits North American shores via Massacre Records.

Founded in 1999 when the hybrid of metal and hardcore was a newer underground movement, SIX REASONS TO KILL has constantly evolved their sound through releases on Alveran, Bastardized, Tribunal and other notable labels, including four previous full-lengths in addition to split albums with both Absidia and Deadlock. The band has toured across Europe constantly, alongside well-known acts like Hatebreed, Caliban, Maroon, Hatesphere, Deadlock, Samael, Pro-Pain and Burning Skies, along the way playing innumerable shows and festivals with various acts such as Suicidal Tendencies, Testament, Parkway Drive, Unearth, The Black Dahlia Murder, Shadows Fall, Bleeding Through, Napalm Death, Heaven Shall Burn among many others.

We Are Ghosts is a display of why SIX REASONS TO KILL have been one of the most consistent acts at what they‘re doing since before the turn of the century; playing modern and aggressive metal with strong hardcore influences, without ever losing sight of their target audience. The wicked ten-track opus was produced at Kohlekeller Studio by Kristian ‘Kohle’ Bonifer (Powerwolf, Crematory, The Burning, Benighted) and hatefully drags the listener through more than forty minutes of down-tuned, earthmoving breakdowns and guttural torment.

We Are Ghosts Track Listing:
1. The Damned
2. We Are Ghosts
3. Inked Inside
4. God Of The Dead
5. Betrayer
6. Unburied Again
7. Heartbreaker
8. Factor X
9. Catalyst
10. F… Hipster

CLEANTEETH: Crush Your Teeth Trek Ongoing; Tour Promo Available Online

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

Brooklyn’s savage underworld collective CLEANTEETH is still out pummeling rockers abroad on the remaining dates of their 2013 Crush Your Teeth Tour. While the act’s debut LP Pushing Rope is pending release via Dullest Records in the coming weeks, from the road the band directly released a 2013 tour promo featuring several tracks from the upcoming album to help fund their fuel and brews intake for the remainder of the tour.

Donate to the “Crush Your Teeth, Brush Your Teeth With Beer On The Road Fund” and pick up a few gnarly NYC-style doom/sludge anthems RIGHT HERE.

On another note, these pirates are still in need of two venues, basements or keg parties to raid for shows this week. Between their Columbus, Ohio show this Friday, May 17th and their take-a-shit-at-home gig back in Brooklyn, on Monday the 20th, CLEANTEETH are looking for spots in Pittsburgh and Baltimore (or somewhere else cool enough along the way) this weekend. Interested? Please drop a line to the “Brush My Teeth With CLEANTEETH Because I Put Them Up Fund” at cleanteethdirtyteeth@gmail.com.

CLEANTEETH Crush Your Teeth Tour [REMAINING DATES]:
5/15/2013 Fubar – St. Louis, MO w/ Cathedral Fever, Rites Of Impiety, Cauldron
5/16/2013 Stage Bar – Chicago, IL
5/17/2013 Carabar – Columbus, OH w/ Axebomber, Ves, Artillery Breath, False Light
5/18/2013 TBA – Pittsburgh, PA
5/19/2013 TBA – Baltimore, MD
5/20/2013 Saint Vitus Bar – Brooklyn, NY

CLEANTEETH’s highly-anticipated first album Pushing Rope demands attention, with forty-two minutes of sinister doom metal combined with bruising rhythms and raucous swells played on four stacks higher than the tallest band member. Within the first ten seconds of Pushing Rope, thunderous riffs echo out of three guitars while ominous licks force heads to bang with rhythmic precision. Fans will recognize influences ranging from Will Haven, KEN Mode, Harkonen and Harvey Milk to Breather Resist, Gaza, and Godflesh, yet CLEANTEETH’s sound is uniquely its own; a crushingly beautiful array of electric noise and soul-punching drum beats that will make you want to break something and come back frothing at the mouth for more. Pushing Rope will be available on vinyl from Dullest Records in the coming weeks; stay tuned for further details.

LEFT FOR DEAD: Reunited Faction Confirms Upcoming Shows And First New Material In Nearly 20 Years

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

Recently reunited hardcore faction LEFT FOR DEAD, having last year played their first show in many years, has not only confirmed more upcoming live appearances, but will also be releasing new material for the first time in nearly two decades.

In their brief but brutal two year existence, Hamilton, Ontario-based LEFT FOR DEAD would prove to bear one of the most aptly-chosen monikers ever, the hatred and energy of their live shows and string of iconic ‘90s punk/hardcore releases still to this day considered legendarily heavy in some circles. Raging with unrest and revenge upon political and governmental bodies as well as meaningless and apathetic members of society in general, the band’s unhinged, blasting anthems infected the scene through split releases with Chokehold, Acrid and Ochre, eventually contained on the Splitting Heads discography No Idea Records released in 1998 following the band’s demise the previous year. Members of the band would form countless bands following LFD, most notably Haymaker, The Swarm, the groundbreaking Cursed, and the still-active outfits Burning Love and Pick Your Side.

In January 2012, LEFT FOR DEAD played the A389 Recordings Bash in Baltimore surrounded by two hometown shows in Canada, their first live actions in over seventeen years. In conjunction with the reunion, A389 released Devoid of Everything, an all-inclusive discography of all LFD material, cut from the original 1/4″ multi-track reels and remixed at Developing Nations by Kevin Bernsten and mastered by James Plotkin. As to their philosophy, the only liner notes of the release pretty much sum it up: “Somehow, it’s been 17 years. Some of us are dead, some of us are lost, some of us still fight it out. Looking back, the rash and sleepless fog of paranoia and cynicism that we spat at our world through back then only gets more and more justified in hindsight. No regrets, no apologies. We are surrounded by liars, and we were right to be so hateful.”

Now in 2013, LEFT FOR DEAD confirms that they’ll be performing at this year’s Chaos In Tejas twice — first alongside Integrity on Saturday, June 1st, then with Infest the following day, Sunday, June 2nd — followed by a spot on this year’s RRROOOAAARRR Fest in Montreal this August. They will also release the first new material since the mid-90s this year through a limited edition “subscription series” of four 7” releases sold through A389 beginning later this Summer. Each of the four 7” releases will be limited to 400 copies, the pressing quantity chosen in tribute to local hardcore house 400 Upper Sherman, a long-defunct pivotal local venue for D.I.Y. bands during the formative years preceding LFD’s original rampage.

The first new song from the pending first 7” in this series has been released via the track “1946” which can be previewed HERE.

EXTINCTION PROTOCOL Releases “As Life Turns To Ash” Via Lambgoat

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

Erie, Pennsylvania-based EXTINCTION PROTOCOL will release their debut album Aeonic Obliteration via NYC-based D.I.Y. label P2, and while the album was initially slated to see release this week, a manufacturing debacle held things up just a bit, making the new street date May 28th. To tide fans over in the meantime, EXTINCTION PROTOCOL give up another brutal new track to the masses this week.

Blast “As Life Turns To Ash,” the second track to Aeonic Obliteration, now via Lambgoat.

EXTINCTION PROTOCOL merges modern groove/slam tactics with primal, classic death metal vitality, bridging the most schizophrenic old-school riffage with overpowering breakdowns. CALL OF THE VOID: New Video Premiere At MetalSucks

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

Today MetalSucks wants to reposition your facial features with a video premiere of “Bottom Feeder” by Denver deviants CALL OF THE VOID. Directed and edited by Frank Huang the tune comes from the band’s recently dispersed Dragged Down A Dead End Path full-length and adds a flow of blinding hues to their menacing brand of confrontational audio hate.

Notes MetalSucks of the clip: “The video’s frenetic editing and chromacolour palette represent a fine approximation of what it’s like to get face-fucked by CALL OF THE VOID live.”

Grab a pair of shades and watch “Bottom Feeder” HERE.

Fittingly dubbed “powerful, harsh crust grind at its fucking finest,” by American Aftermath, and commended for their “legitimate, misanthropic emotion,” by Popmatters, CALL OF THE VOID’s filth-ridden rash of powerviolence-stained hardcore continues to earn critical hails and ruptured spleens nationwide with its 25+ minute display of soul-tearing disgust. Recorded at the Boar’s Nest in Salt Lake City, Utah by Andy Patterson, mastered by Chris Mcnaughton, Dragged Down A Dead End Path delivers a merciless fusion of grind, crust and broken spirits.

CALL OF THE VOID will rape the stages of this year’s Scion Rock Fest set to take place in Memphis, Tennessee June 1st. And don’t forget to check out CALL OF THE VOID’s Decibrity playlist compiled by guitarist Patrick Alberts HERE!

“With a raw, messy sound drenched in over-amped guitars and driven by pure bile, they channel grindcore and Iron Monkey-esque sludgy unpleasantness and with each track – the longest topping out at 3:44 – they go off in a half dozen directions without ever losing their focus on destroying everything close by.” – Outburn

CALL OF THE VOID [are] proving that Denver is a hotbed of serious vitriol and passion.” – Pitchfork

“…one of the best aggressive releases of the year.” – Exclaim!

“…an intense and hard hitting CD, with some of the sickest guitar playing heard since Death’s Spiritual Healing…” – Wicked Channel
