Over two and a half decades, EYEHATEGOD have helped define the NOLA sound: down-tuned, blues-inflected guitars awash in furious distortion, underpinning the demonic screams of Mike IX Williams over a thundering rhythm section. Though it was a long time between riffs, EYEHATEGOD reemerged stronger and more determined than ever before with their chart-topping, self-titled studio offering and first full-length in nearly fifteen years. Released in May via Housecore, Eyehategod personifies desperation and addiction in the various backwaters of forgotten America, punctuated by the N’awlins sound of rebellion and pollution resulting in triumph over adversity. Eyehategod is an exclamation mark on an already storied career, a statement of rebirth, catharsis, self-preservation and a sign of things to come.

“…a stomping and venomous set of eleven tracks that reignite the band’s amazing propensity for down-trodden, electric blues.” – Noisey

“…their most entertaining release since 1996′s Dopesick…urgent and raw, as if the band hasn’t aged a day.” – Consequence Of Sound

“To say that this album is ‘a triumphant return,’ or ‘the album we’ve all been waiting for’ are elephantine understatements. This album holds its own against some of the best of their canon and that alone makes it one of the best metal albums you’ll hear this year.” – Metal Insider

“There are brilliant riffs, moments of barely contained aural violence and, most memorably of all, the ever-distinctive vocals of Mike IX Williams… a worthy addition to the band’s already impenetrable legacy.” — Stereoboard

THE GREAT SABATINI Refuses To Quit Releasing Videos For Dog Years LP; “Life During Wartime” Now Playing

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014

With their latest LP, Dog Years, out since June, and with two North American tours and random live mayhem already in the bag since then, Montreal noise/sludge metal barons, THE GREAT SABATINI, continue their rambunctious rampage of releasing a video for nearly every song on the album so far, with the new one for “Living In Wartime” now playing.

Utilizing imagery from 1993-released animated fantasy film The Thied And The Cobbler, which took nearly three decades to complete, THE GREAT SABATINI pays homage to this incredible masterwork by adding their latest LP’s massive closing track as an audio backdrop to segments of the movie. It flows seamlessly, as the plot unfolds with the incredible animation to the song’s increasing tension, fitting well with the incredibly visual and visceral elements of the band’s work.

Witness the “Living In Wartime” video now at THIS LOCATION.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Sean Pearson (Cursed, Shallow North Dakota), Dog Years boasts THE GREAT SABATINI’s raw, unpolished, live-sounding approach, the goal being to create a hi-fi document with all of their lo-fi sensibilities, grit and live energy intact, and the results are both destructive but cohesive and well-honed. France’s Solar Flare Records, released the album on CD, digital and LP formats, the latter available on both black and transparent red vinyl; place orders through the label HERE and via the band HERE. And stream the entire Dog Years album via Decibel Magazine AT THIS LOCATION.

Living In Wartime” is the whopping sixth video to be spawned from Dog Years, which includes previously released visual depictions of the album’s “Akela,” “Periwinkle Love Hammer,” “Munera,” “Guest Of Honour” and “The Royal We.” There are four tracks left on the album… will THE GREAT SABATINI release videos for the rest of these caustic creations? Tune in next week to find out more…

USNEA Releases Title Track From Random Cosmic Violence Through No Clean Singing; Album Out In November Via Relapse

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014

The impact of Random Cosmic Violence, the second album from Portland, Oregon’s USNEA, and first of the band’s releases for Relapse Records, will be felt worldwide in less than three weeks, and this week another precursory strike has been made, as No Clean Singing unveils the LP’s devastating title track.

Pulsating with tribal intensity, Random Cosmic Violence is one of those rare records which elevates itself above the boundaries that its genre typically self-imposes, its musicality and songcraft exhibited placing USNEA not just at the forefront of the American doom scene and extreme music realms as a whole. “The album as a whole is desolate and devastating, an avalanche of multi-ton boulders in slow motion, with riffs that carve deep canyons of despair in a blasted post-apocalyptic wasteland and percussion that’s so pulverizing and so well-produced that you feel like your head is right inside the bass drum,” No Clean Singing issues of Random Cosmic Violence as a whole in the massive review of the LP posted alongside the song premiere. It goes on to discuss the band as a whole, reporting, “And perhaps what really vaults the album high above the average, apart from USNEA’s knack for generating titanic power and morbid, minor-key melodies, is the band’s skill in creating dynamic changes and salting this heartless sonic landscape with ingenious touches, which come like breaths of air in an atmosphere that’s being rapidly sucked into space, or poisoned with the smoke of burning tires in an urban dead zone.”

Get the entire, grim forecast No Clean Singing has issued with “Random Cosmic Violence” now at THIS LOCATION.

Also pay heed to the track “Healing Through Death” via Relapse HERE.

Through their ruthlessly overwhelming style of black/occult metal-influenced funeral doom, USNEA has created a classic of the new millennium with Random Cosmic Violence. Recorded and mixed by Jared “Fester” See at Haywire Studios (Stoneburner, Rabbits, Drunk Dad) who supplies additional guitars to the title track, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Yob, High On Fire, Integrity), the artwork and design was handled by Justin Cory and Orion Landau. Relapse will release the album on CD, digital download and both colored/limited and standard black 2xLP in Germany/Benelux/Finland on November 7th  and in North America and the rest of the world November 10th; preorders for the physical versions are posted HERE and the digital HERE.

On the day of their new album’s North American release, USNEA will perform in their hometown at the official record release show for labelmates and allies in Atriarch, with additional live and tour actions to be announced in the near future as Random Cosmic Violence sees release.

ENCOFFINATION: III – Hear Me, O’ Death (Sing Thou Wretched Choirs) Out Now On Selfmadegod Records

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014

One of the year’s most petrifying, slow-motion musical excursions is now available worldwide via Selfmadegod, as III – Hear Me, O’ Death (Sing Thou Wretched Choirs), from US death/doom duo, ENCOFFINATION, is now available from the label worldwide.

Now three albums in, III – Hear Me, O’ Death (Sing Thou Wretched Choirs) sees one of America’s top dread-inducing metal exports building on even more blackened occult passages, incorporating choral elements and organs to their already elementally disturbing hymns. The album was constructed over a full year in various sessions throughout 2013 — the drums recorded at Universal Sound in San Diego, California, and the rest at Graf Yairden in Atlanta — the final output reeking with suffocating riffs and tones called, “slow, grinding, hazed with distortion, with a thick miasma of dread oozing from every pore” by No Clean Singing, and a tremendously deliberate momentum which had About.com’s Heavy Metal sector writing, “Diving into the endless suffering that the abyss can offer, the hour-long journey is fraught with sonic peril and a deathly pace. These are some of the slowest songs the band has written since their inception…” Meat Mead Metal issued a punishingly satisfied report of the album, issuing that ENCOFFINATION is, “a group that sounds like it is the musical embodiment of death, the cessation of life. Their music is slow, drubbing, torturous, and sounds like it is one step away from shutting its eyes artistically for the final time. Nothing about it feels good or will get you jumping up and down like an idiot at a live show. You should be depressed, have darkened feelings that cannot be saved, and see only the worst in the music you are hearing. That’s exactly what you get…”

Stream ENCOFFINATION’s latest grisly works via Selfmadegod Records’ Bandcamp right HERE.

III – Hear Me, O’ Death (Sing Thou Wretched Choirs) is out now worldwide on CD and via digital delivery. Orders for the CD is available stateside via Earsplit Distro HERE, and the deluxe CD housed in a screen-printed O-card limited to 200 copies is available exclusively via Selfmadegod’s webstore HERE.

Additionally a 2xLP version of III – Hear Me, O’ Death (Sing Thou Wretched Choirs) is nearing release before the end of the year. Stand by for exact details on the massive vinyl endeavor including a release date, pressing info and preorder links to be available in the coming days.

Having only played three shows in their inception nearly seven years ago, ENCOFFINATION is devising a brief tour run in 2015, although any sort of specifics have yet to be finalized. Stand by for further missives as the bereavement in the wake of III – Hear Me, O’ Death (Sing Thou Wretched Choirs) continues.

With this recording created by Paul Valle on vocals/guitar and Stephen Varns on drums, the band delivers prime, hard-hitting desert rock, The Obelisk Taskmaster noting that the band begins the track, “with slower riffery but open up to a chugging verse and well-placed clean vocals buried Goatsnake-style under the mountainous tone…”

Lansdale, Pennsylvania-based CDC is known for doing everything DIY to the core, having toured to almost every corner of the planet over the past decade — playing in the vicinity of forty countries to date, including Madagascar, South Africa, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Israel, Turkey, Southeast Asia and more — without a booking agent or manager. Their streetwise, outspoken style is forged on heavy grooves and a unique layering of vocal parts and tones, unifying hardened founders of the genre like Warzone, Merauder, Inside Out, 100 Demons and Bulldoze with the more modern persuasion of E.Town Concrete, Alpha & Omega and Incendiary. Initially formed as a studio project in 2003, with an instant local buzz surrounding them, CDC began playing shows all over the East Coast and released several smaller releases over the next five years. In 2009, the band took it to the next level, releasing their five-song Burn EP and touring extensively across the globe. Since 2010 the band has been mildly dormant, only surfacing every couple months to play a hand full of shows and a few scattered tours throughout the years. However, earlier this year CDC recorded five new tracks with Vince Ratti at Skylight Studios and had them mastered by Will Yip at Studio 4, now coming together for release in the form of the End, their first new release since 2009.

More info on End and additional CDC band and tour updates will be released shortly.

PRIMORDIAL: Dublin Metal Troupe Unveils New Tune At Stereogum; Where Greater Men Have Fallen To See Release Next Month

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014

Today Stereogum hosts the official unveiling of “Come The Flood,” the new hymn from Dublin metal troupe, PRIMORDIAL. The stirring tune appears as the third track on the band’s long-anticipated Where Greater Men Have Fallen full-length, set for release via Metal Blade Records this November.

Praised by Pitchfork for their fastidiously composed “folk and black metal-inflected classic metal that spirals and extends and, somehow, keeps getting bigger,“ Where Greater Men Have Fallen serves as the follow-up to PRIMORDIAL’s globally adored, 2011-released Redemption At The Puritan’s Hand long player and their eighth studio offering overall. An eight track, fifty-eight minute magnum opus, Where Greater Men Have Fallen was recorded at Grouse Lodge in Dublin with Jaime Gomez (Cathedral, Angelwitch, Grave Miasma) and delivers some of the band’s deepest, most methodically arranged, thematically profound and plainly gripping compositions of their winding catalog of sonic enormity.

Gushes Stereogum of “Come The Flood,” “Frontman Alan Averill (aka A.A. Nemtheanga) is a firebrand, channeling a mythic vision of humanity’s pain through a personal lens of frustration, resulting in a swaggering, staggering bellow that would sound absurd out of context, but instead comes off absurdly powerful. It’s pure theater, but closer to Macbeth than anything else. ‘Come The Flood’ is the second single off Where Greater Men Have Fallen, following the crushing title track, which came out a couple weeks back. “Come The Flood” takes a different tack, lacing jangling minor-key guitars and spoken word throughout its 7-minute runtime before exploding in the second half, embodying the biblical fire and cathartic rain it describes with sonic force. Like the first single, the results are beyond what we’ve come to expect from … anything, really.”

Experience the near-eight-minute epic “Come The Flood” HERE.

Where Greater Men Have Fallen will be released on November 25th, 2014 via Metal Blade Records. Visit http://www.metalblade.com/primordial where you’ll find a lyric video for the title track as well as a gaggle of preorder options. The record will come available on CD and on vinyl in various color variants.

Additionally, Where Greater Men Have Fallen will be released in a limited European deluxe edition wood boxset which includes a CD+DVD digibook, an exclusive 7”, a leather wristband, a poster and a certificate of authenticity.

PRIMORDIAL Live:
11/28/2014 The Academy – Dublin, IE @ Redemption Festival w/ Necros Christos, Dead Congregation, Malthusian
12/12/2014 Metal Meeting – Eindhoven, NL
1/24/2015 Magazin4 – Brussels, BE

LAE: American Aftermath Posts Single From Debut LP By Montreal-Based Post-Rock Outfit; CD Preorders Available

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014

As Montreal-based post-rock quintet, LAE — featuring in its ranks Steve Austin of Today Is The Day — prepares to release its Break The Clasp debut this Autumn, the first single from the LP has been made available to the public through an exclusive premiere at American Aftermath.

The diverse track, “Sister,” shows both the beautiful, peaceful delivery and accessible elements this crew of fantastic songwriters display through the entire album. It also reveals the polar opposite second personality of LAE, as the clean guitars, organs and vocals give way to wounding, caustic vocals and massive-sounding electric guitar riffs thundering through the mix. “Sister” has been posted at American Aftermath, who extensively interrogates LAE’s founding songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Marc Lucas Ablasou, on the band’s storied history and why Break The Clasp was over two decades in the making, as well as quotes from Austin, who not only serves as the lead vocalist on the entire album, also fully recorded and produced Break The Clasp. The write-up issues of the track, “The song echoes psychedelic progressive rock and post-rock but the overall picture is far more expansive. The song, as well as the album in general, is wholly unique and escapes categorization.”

Take the ride and delve into the world of LAE with “Sister” and more RIGHT HERE.

A trailer for Break The Clasp with clips from several of the album’s thirteen tracks is also playing HERE.

Break The Clasp will see release through The Compound and Battleground Records via digital download and 6-panel digipak November 25th, and a deluxe 180-gram double LP in February 2015 as the band begins touring throughout North America. CD preorders are now available via Earsplit Distro HERE, and digital preorders via BandCamp will be made available on Halloween.

Performing under their original moniker, LAE-TSEU, the outfit now known as LAE impacted the Quebec art and post-hardcore/emo/indie circuits in the apocalypse-ready Y2K era of the mid 1990s. In mid-2013, the band went through an incredible rebirth, completely re-envisioning their original songs with new life knowledge and a ravenous hunger to make them better than ever. To capture this soundtrack, the band contracted Steve Austin (Today Is The Day), flying him and an arsenal of gear from his Austin Enterprises from Maine to record in Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saws, multiple electric organs and pianos and more to capture their long-awaited full-length, fully recorded on an arsenal of vintage analog equipment. However, during the recording process, Austin ended up performing lead vocals to the entire album in addition to other musical contributions. Mastered at Austin Enterprises and enshrouded with artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label), LAE’s Break The Clasp will finally see release. Encompassing nearly fifty-three minutes of unearthly, heartbreaking, psychedelic audio artistry, while fans of Three Mile Pilot, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac and more will be instantly hooked by these tales of love, devotion and loss, Break The Clasp is an incredible experience, the record unfathomably original and unlike anything you’ll experience this year.

ATRIARCH: Pitchfork Streams New LP From Death/Doom Alchemists In Its Entirety

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014

With the release of An Unending Pathway, the haunting new long player from Pacific Northwest atmospheric death/doom alchemists, ATRIARCH, now less than a week away, today Pitchfork is streaming the record in its entirety.

Tracked at Type Foundry in Portland, Oregon, produced by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Eyehategod, Melvins et al) and the band, engineered and mixed by Anderson at Everything Hz, also in Portland, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege, An Unending Pathway boasts seven cataclysmic soundscapes made of  cryptic atmospheres and droning floods of ritualistic sludge. Offering true purification through sonic ritual, ATRIARCH’s third full-length fuses all the prime tenets of death rock, doom, black metal, post punk and psychedelic drone/noise, into something that is at once tempting and petrifying.

Cvlt Nation applauds the outfit’s, “arresting and welcome combination of doom metal, death rock, black metal, and Mid Eastern-influenced darkwave sound,” Noisey notes, “There’s a lurching, ritualistic feel to the proceedings, and a dire hopelessness in the vocals that doesn’t let up for a moment. It’s death rock that ODs on death… The end result is as dark and eerily atmospheric as an abandoned graveyard at midnight,” while Sea Of Tranquility commends, “An Unending Pathway is so out there at times that it’s almost puzzling. For some, this melting pot of sounds, mixed with the frightening tone of much of the album, is going to be very unsettling….” Elsewhere the sentiment echoes. In a 4/5 rating, Metal Riot elaborates, “‘Collapse’ breathes with terrific shifting drums Moonspell or The Cult fans could appreciate equally. There is a deranged charm to the vocal and unity in this song that owns the feeling coveted. Marching drums ring in ‘Revenant,’ a more interesting song that bridges military black metal and noise rock influences with some tortured screams before drooping into a death shuffle. The patience of the slow bass line and sustained notes paired with sudden bursts of black metal drumming is worth the whole record alone.” Adds Metal Storm in an 8.5/10 score, “If the third album of a band’s discography is typically held as the ‘make it or break it.’ point, these guys not only break through the wall, they pummel it into dust.”

Experience An Unending Pathway in full courtesy of Pitchfork at THIS LOCATION.

ATRIARCH will bring their audio extractions to the stage this November on a West Coast run of live rituals. EMIT: Obscure UK Ambient/Black Metal Entity Releases Track Through Ghost Cult Magazine

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014

In one week, extreme underworld noise specialist outfit, Crucial Blast, will unveil the worldwide edition of the out-of-print Spectre Music Of An Antiquary, by UK black/ambient outfit, EMIT, and through the help of Ghost Cult Magazine, another sordid tale from the album has been posted as evidence of the album’s utter creepiness.

As with EMIT’s previous output, the ten movements on Spectre Music Of An Antiquary are lyrically more focused on the occult lore and hidden history of the British isles rather than simply uttering Satanic shock value clichés, an element which heightens the curiosity level of unsuspecting listeners and adds a completely innate, sinister vibe to the entire set of tales. Alongside its eight chapter, “Earthwork Misthill,”

Ghost Cult reports of its research on the record, “This album is essential for those who delve into the bleak, ambient past of black metal, thick with atmospherics. This release was so limited and rare in its initial pressing that this re-issue will see the music seep into the psyche of fervent fans for the first time ever, in many cases. ‘Earthwork Misthill’ is creepy as hell, but like all of EMIT’s output, never feels contrived.”

As your shovel strikes bone, let the ambient wrath of “Earthwork Misthill” be the soundtrack for your nocturnal occultation; LISTEN HERE.

Following several years of unavailability, Crucial Blast will reissue Spectre Music Of An Antiquary next Tuesday, October 28th, the six-panel digipak featuring evocative, all-new artwork. Preorders for the disc and digital versions are posted HERE.

The latest album of murky graveyard ambiance, deranged synth, phantasmic dread and ritualistic black drift from this cult UK outfit, their first in nearly ten years is surrealistic, spectral music and nocturnal delirium transmitted from beyond the veil and steeped in the mysteries of old Britain, like some twisted, eldritch fusion of Fabio Frizzi, In Umbra Malitiae Ambulabo-era Abruptum, and 80’s darkwave. Initially released as an extremely limited cassette on Glorious North, Spectre Music Of An Antiquary presents the first new material from EMIT in over five years, a full-length collection of murky ambiance, deranged ‘80s style synth, ritualistic black drift, and stranger sounds forays into black noise. This British outfit has been creating their unique brand of experimental blackened delirium since the late ‘90s, branching out of a low-fi UK black metal band called Ante Cryst, yet with EMIT, the members began to explore a creepy, synth-heavy sound that was unmistakably descended from black metal but supremely more deformed, combining harsh electronic noise, horror-movie soundtrack atmospherics, droning keyboards, wrecked and fractured black metal guitars, and bizarre vocals that would often push their music into a strange realm of hallucinatory, ghastly psychedelia. On Spectre, though, EMIT’s sound has morphed into something that more resembles some mutated, primitive ‘80s darkwave being completely taken over by malevolent spirits, with eerie electronic drones and distant moaning vocals often taking over.
