LAGO: MetalSucks Dispatches New Tune From Phoenix Death Metal Act; Tyranny Preorders Available

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

A new precursory warning shot from LAGO’s debut full-length, Tyranny, has been dispatched via MetalSucks preceding the album’s official release on September 16th through Battleground Records.

The second of Tyranny’s eight demoralizing blackened death metal works, “The Tyranny Of Men” erupts with the blend of classic death metal workings and blackened components that form the foundation of LAGO’s demoralizing delivery. Loaded with empowering solos, potent bass runs and a voracious salvo of percussion, the guttural main vocals joined at times with a demonic cackling counterpart. MetalSucks champions the band, issuing, “LAGO know when to beat you over the head with sheer brutality, they know when to slow things down for gargantuan effect, and they know how write a real, artful guitar solo. In short, they’re the perfect death metal band.”

To be bludgeoned with “The Tyranny Of Men” via MetalSucks CLICK THIS.

Also hear the album’s “Concede To Oblivion” previously released via No Clean Singing HERE.

LAGO recorded the blasphemous Tyranny in the Fall of 2013 by Ryan Butler at Arcane Digital Recording (Exhumed, Phobia, Landmine Marathon) and mastered in March 2014 by Dave Shirk at Sonorous Mastering (Incantation, Exhumed, Today is the Day). The album executes forty minutes of primal, pummeling death metal with a dissonant black metal edge through eight destructive tracks. Additionally, Jonny Davy from Job For A Cowboy makes a guest appearance on the track “Bring To Ruin.” Battleground Records will release Tyranny on digipak CD and via digital delivery on September 16th, 2014, while Swedish label Blood Harvest Records will be handling the vinyl edition. The album will be released through iTunes, Amazon MP3, Spotify, etc. as well. Preorders are already available directly through the band; for the CD click HERE and for the digital — which includes an immediate download of the track “Concede To Oblivion” — click HERE.

Stand by for new tour actions from LAGO to be announced in addition to their hometown record release show confirmed for Saturday, September 20th.

IDES OF GEMINI: New Psalm Now Streaming At Revolver

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

With the official unveiling of their Old World New Wave full-length now less than one month away, Los Angeles ethereal dream-raiders, IDES OF GEMINI, are pleased to offer up another helping of sonic sanctity with “The Adversary.”

Elaborates guitarist Jason Bennett of the consuming tune, “The album was sequenced with vinyl in mind, so the ‘old world’ songs are on side one and the ‘new wave’ songs are on side two. ‘The Adversary’ is from the ‘new wave’ side of the album, which we see as a hint toward the musical direction of future IDES OF GEMINI releases. At least that’s what we’re saying now, until we write a bunch of new stuff that sounds nothing like this”

Lose yourself in the “new wave” courtesy of Revolver Magazine at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, sample the ethereal majesty of “old wave” track “The Chalice & The Blade,” still streaming at Noisey HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI features Bennett, drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson and the haunting vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of West Coast dark-psych conjurors Black Mare. The follow-up to the band’s 2012 Constantinople debut, which Pitchfork christened “darkly beautiful,” and Terrorizer likened to, “a metallic-filtered kinship to Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star,” Old World New Wave was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson. Notes Timms of their latest manifestation, “For Old World New Wave we all really coalesced as a band, and were able to work off one another’s strengths. J came up with the basic concept and musical framework of the album, and Kelly and I gave it form and identity. For me, my own personal musical identity, taste, preferences etc. were eclipsed by the power of the music which worked as an animate force unto itself — so much so that I cannot listen to any of it objectively, or tell you if it’s good or bad, but I can tell you that it’s distinctively IDES OF GEMINI.”

IDES OF GEMINI will grace the stage this Fall with a pair of live performances, the first serving as the trio’s official record release gala in Los Angeles, the second playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show. Additional IDES rituals will to be announced in the coming weeks.

EARTH: Trailer Featuring New Music From Primitive And Deadly LP Released

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

As the Ouroborean creative cycle of Seattle’s EARTH circles into its twenty-fifth year, the band prepares to unveil their glorious tenth full-length studio LP, Primitive And Deadly, the album set to hit the streets in less than two weeks through Southern Lord.

With some of the most massive and straightforward rock movements in the band’s continuing duration, and featuring the first vocal contributions since their seminal 1996 Pentastar album, Primitive And Deadly is undoubtedly a standout release in EARTH’s impressive catalog. With founding guitarist Dylan Carlson weaving his slow-motion, organic dirges throughout the amazingly restrained percussion of his longtime cohort Adrienne Davies, the duo are here joined by bassist Bill Herzog (Sunn O))), Joel RL Phelps, Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter) and additional guitarists Brett Netson (Built To Spill, Caustic Resin) and Jodie Cox (Narrows). Rabia Shaheen Qazi of Rose Windows lends her angelic voice to the album’s third composition, “From The Zodiacal Light,” as heard via Pitchfork in recent weeks, while the fifth track, “Rooks Across The Gate” and second track, “There’s a Serpent Coming,” feature evocative vocal contributions from Mark Lanegan previously of Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age, Mad Season and more. The lyrics for “Rooks…” were written by Dylan Carlson and the lyrics for “Serpent..” by Lanegan.

A brand new trailer featuring audio clips of “Rooks Across The Gate” featuring Lanegan’s vocals, the instrumental LP-opening track, “Torn By The Fox Of The Crescent Moon,” a session of photos of EARTH in the secluded desert landscape of Joshua Tree, California, the entire inner and outer layouts of the Primitive And Deadly cover layout by Samantha Muljat and more has been published in advance of the album’s looming released date.

Tap into Primitive And Deadly and view the new trailer at THIS LOCATION.

And hear all of “From The Zodiacal Light” playing via Pitchfork RIGHT HERE.

Southern Lord will issue Primitive And Deadly on colored 2xLP, CD and digital download in North America on September 2nd and just a day earlier In Europe. Preorders are posted at EARTH’s new online store HERE.

With their tours of Japan, Australia, New Zealand and most recently Europe in support of Primitive And Deadly now behind them, EARTH is now preparing to bring their new material to American fans on a month-long tour from September 4th through October 3rd, with direct support from dark folk act, King Dude.

Open-minded music fans the world over have long praised EARTH’s pioneering and visionary delivery of their slow-motion anthems from the Sub Pop albums of the early 1990s, to their more Americana-inclined direction of the early 2000s and beyond. Now, nearly two-and-a-half decades into their musical evolution, the band prepares to release Primitive And Deadly, a truly epic, diverse collection of songs which flow seamlessly, and while revisiting some of their earliest works, the album also explores massive new sonic territories for EARTH. The foundation of the record was laid in the mystic desert high lands of Joshua Tree, California at Rancho de la Luna where the band recorded after hours of meditation on each track’s central theme. Upon returning to Seattle these were edited, arranged and expanded upon at Avast with the help of long-term collaborator Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room, Eagle Twin).

BLOODTRUTH: Metal Assault Unleashes Lyric Video From Unique Leader-Bound Debut Album

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

With the impending doom of their debut album, Obedience, looming, Italian death metal horde BLOODTRUTH has created a lyric video for the album’s eighth track, “Foresworn,” which is today viewable via Metal Assault.

The ten tracks engulfing BLOODTRUTH’s Obedience tap into a wealth of unadulterated lyrical hatred released through incinerating waves of limb-removing, guttural metal. Engineered by Francesco Paoli and Cristiano Trionfera (both of Fleshgod Apocalypse) at Sonic Hammer Studios, Obedience was then mixed and mastered by Italian death metal producer and legend Stefano Morabito of 16th Cellars Studios (Hour of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Eyeconoclast, Unfanthomable Ruination, Inherit Disease, and is enshrouded with some of the most intense artwork to date by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design (Exodus, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Kataklysm), the perfect summary of the level of extreme comprising Obedience.

The new lyric video for the album’s “Foresworn” destroyer is now playing at Metal Assault RIGHT HERE.

Initially forged in 2009 as the side project of Fleshgod Apocalypse members Francesco Paoli and Paolo Rossi and now featuring the updated lineup of vocalist Luigi Valenti, guitarist Stefano Rossi Ciucci, bassist Riccardo Rogari and drummer Giacomo Torti, BLOODTRUTH heaves forth a sonic fireball of speed, brutality and unadulterated hate. Fusing the cryptic atmosphere of early ‘90s death metal and evocative Gregorian chant, representing the band’s homeland and history, with methodical technicality, BLOODTRUTH are ceaseless in their ear-lacerating capabilities. A visual teaser for Obedience was previously released HERE.

California-based Unique Leader Records will release Obedience on September 16th, 2014.

LO-PAN: Ohio Riff Bringers Premiere New Tune Via Noisey; Tour With Black Cobra To Commence Next Week

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

With a tour supporting Black Cobra just one week away and a brand new record, the fittingly titled Colossus, on the horizon, Ohio riff bringers LO-PAN are pleased to uncork opening track, “Regulus,” via Noisey.

Elaborates vocalist Jeff Martin of the track, “‘Regulus’ is the brightest star in the Leo constellation. It’s a multiple system consisting of four stars. ‘Regulus’ is also Latin for ‘prince’ or ‘little king.’ The song is about a dream I had. In the dream I lived on a planet in the regulus system and the star was about to explode. The planet is about to be destroyed. And I’m reflecting on life as a whole facing the knowledge that I’m about to die basically.”

Adds Noisey: “Colossus is a great name for a doom record. In one breath it handily evokes images of majesty, grandeur, and past glories… It hints at hard-won battles and blood seeping into foreign sands, of rough-hewn idols and monoliths crumbling into the foaming sea. It paints a pretty goddamn inspiring picture. That being said, on a less romantic level, Colossus also slots neatly into doom’s obsession with really big… things. Ours is a world populated by behemoths and mastodons, dying giants, sea lords, and elder gods, whose exploits and flights of fancy are riffed sweatily into existence by big burly dudes encircled by halos of amplifier tubes. It’s larger than life, and if it’s done right, it’s way too much for your shitty foam earplugs to handle. It’s awesome.”

Check out “Regulus” before your imminent demise, now playing at Vice’s sound portal at THIS LOCATION.

Named for the Colossus of Rhodes — a ninety-six-foot statue of the Greek titan-god of the sun, Helios, constructed in 280 BC to mark a failed siege and the indomitable nature of the Greek city of Rhodes itself — LO-PAN’s fourth full-length, Colossus, serves as their most personal composition to date and a true testament to their evolution as a band. Having honed their musicianship through perpetual touring and partnering with producer/engineer Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Rosetta, East Of The Wall et al) at his Translator Audio Studio in Brooklyn, the Columbus four-piece knew exactly what they wanted out of this recording. Together they belted out ten smolderingly soulful psalms that reveal just how much they’ve moved beyond their influences to arrive at their own sound – a style built on aggression without caricature, fuzz without cliché, melody without redundancy and their meanest groove to date.

As a precursor to the release of Colossus, LO-PAN will take to the streets next week on a gargantuan live excursion alongside San Francisco volume perpetrators, Black Cobra. The trek will commence in Phoenix on August 28th and wind through nearly three dozen cities, with additional LO-PAN headlining shows added to the jaunt. See confirmed dates below.

TODAY IS THE DAY Lets The Details Of Animal Mother Out Of The Cage; Trailer For Tenth LP Released

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

As the visionary metal cult known as TODAY IS THE DAY prepares to assault the masses with their tenth full-length album, Animal Mother, Southern Lord today discloses the LP’s art, track listing and a visual trailer featuring the first precursor of the hostile and haunting audio the album promises to unleash.

As always, the dejected and vengeful hymns TODAY IS THE DAY delivers with their latest opus are among the most scathing passages of audio one will experience, as Animal Mother unloads just short of a solid hour of pure anguish. The band’s lineup features the rhythm section of bassist Sean Conkling (Regression, Burn Your Halo, Sprawl) and drummer Jeff Lohrber (Enabler, ex-Harlots), fronted by cult leader, founding guitarist/vocalist Steve Austin. Through fifteen diversified attacks, Animal Mother’s wrath recalls elements of several seminal TITD albums, merging the dementia of Temple Of The Morning Star with the blazing delivery of In The Eyes Of God, yet several acoustic and more melodic angles elevate the LP’s material to entirely different dimensions. Pain and hate are blatantly abundant in Austin’s seething and venomous lyrical tirades and emotional outcries. The Animal Mother recording sessions took place at the notorious architect’s own Austin Enterprises in the deeply wooded Maine wilderness this brutal past Winter, the material fully produced and mastered by Austin. The cover art for Animal Mother was created by Samantha Muljat.

A video trailer produced by David Hall of Handshake Inc. has today been released, viewable at THIS LOCATION.

Southern Lord will release Animal Mother on 2xLP, CD and digital in North America on October 14th. Stand by for further advance audio and video evidence from the album to be released as well as a gigantic list live offensive including several months of heavy touring to be declared shortly.

For two and-a-half decades, TODAY IS THE DAY has woven Steve Austin’s prophetic observations and noise-soaked chaos through a psychedelic, unique and unmatched battery of heavy styles. The outfit has spawned an incredible discography, forging their way to the forefront of Amphetamine Reptile, Relapse, Blackmarket Activities and many others. The band has toured with countless acts including Motörhead, Morbid Angel, Helmet, Neurosis, The Melvins, Napalm Death, Coalesce, Unsane and Eyehategod. Additionally, Steve Austin has produced nearly all of TITD’s releases, as well as groundbreaking albums for Lamb Of God, Converge, Deadguy and many others.

BLACK COBRA: US Tour With Lo-Pan Begins Next Week

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014

Gruesome twosome, BLACK COBRA, will begin their massive impending US tour with support from Lo Pan on August 28th.

Since 2001, the BLACK COBRA duo has unloaded a deadly, damaging and wholly unique style of punk/hardcore-propelled sludge doom metal. An introductory self-titled demo EP would get them immediately picked up by At A Loss Recordings who officially re-released the EP as well as their 2006 debut LP, Bestial, and 2007-released follow-up, Feather And Stone, the albums bridged by a split with Eternal Elysium on Diwphalanx Records. Their destructive hymns and notoriously explosive live energy caught the attention of Southern Lord Recordings who signed the band for their acclaimed 2009 LP, Chronomega, as well as their most widely and positively received album to date, with 2011’s massive Invernal.

An unstoppable touring machine, BLACK COBRA continually destroys the planet on the road, having played over seven-hundred shows on multiple continents since 2006, including Asia, Australia and both Europe and North America many times each. Massive festivals including Hellfest, The Power Of The Riff, Roadburn, Dour, Scion and others have set the band up with prime slots where the meager duo strikes the crowd with more venom than a band thrice its size every time. Their albums portray visceral otherworldly and sci-fi lyrics and storylines, the result of the band’s major fascination with horror and sci-fi literature and cinema. Guitarist vocalist Jason Landrian (ex-Cavity) and drummer Rafa Martinez (ex-16, ex-Acid King) both currently reside in San Francisco where they’re working on material for their next LP due for release in the coming months.

With thirty-two cities confirmed to endure the BLACK COBRA live treatment in the coming weeks, the band’s more than month-long US Tour with support from Lo Pan begins next Thursday, August 28th and will decimate the country through October 2nd.

ACRANIA: Revolver Magazine Streams Totalitarian Dystopia In Its Venomous Entirety; New Full-Length Out TODAY!

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014

In celebration of its final detonation, today Revolver Magazine is streaming Totalitarian Dystopia, the new full-length from London death bringers, ACRANIA, in its venomous entirety!

Dubbed a “festering slab of disgusting death metal,” by American Aftermath, Totalitarian Dystopia was recorded with Stu McKay at Studio 6 in London with mixing/mastering by Chris Foster. The record includes guest appearances from Tom Barber of Lorna Shore, Mendel of Aborted and Jamie Hanks of I Declare War and boasts a thirty-six minute maelstrom of sonic punishment through ten deviant tales dissecting chaos, corruption and the imminent collapse of mankind. Elaborates New Transcendence in a 9.25/10 rating, “Totalitarian Dystopia is chaos incarnate—from the first crack of the snare to the last crushing chug… If you haven’t been exposed to ACRANIA’s gargantuan style of slamming, prolapse-inducing deathcore, now is the time. Totalitarian Dystopia is nothing short of mammoth-sized riffs, steamrolling percussion and vocal brilliance… when the world’s end begins and government as we know it faces complete collapse, this is the album that will be blaring over loudspeakers in every city.” Adds Wonderbox Metal, “A hugely enjoyable release that’s more than the sum of its colossal riffs; this is an album that takes the deathcore template and makes it their own. Highly recommended for all fans of sonic heaviness and utter brutality.”

Bleed your ears dry to the sounds of Totalitarian Dystopia, now playing at Revolver at THIS LOCATION.

Named after a rare congenital disorder that occurs in the human fetus in which the flat bones in the cranial vault are either partially or completely absent, the politically-bent ACRANIA has spread their message through several independent recordings since their 2012 inception. Their debut split with Blue Waffle and “A Trophy Of Corporate Disfigurement” single, both released in their first year as a band, followed by their The Beginning Of The End EP released last year have helped the band forge a devout fanbase of pit-seeking followers. Having already toured with various acts throughout Europe including Cerebral Bore and Warpath, with upcoming shows booked alongside Thy Art Is Murder, Blood Red Throne and many more, ACRANIA will continue to scoff their way through the scene and proliferate their message of maximized hostility through their blistering fusion of brutality, slams and blastbeats.

Totalitarian Dystopia is out TODAY on Unique Leader Records. Order your copy at THIS LOCATION.

PORD: The Obelisk Discloses Fresh Track From Rural French Noise Rock Trio; Wild European Tour Begins Next Week

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014

From the sprawling backwoods and farmlands of rural Lozère, French noise rock cultivators, PORD, have set up at The Obelisk to market an example of their latest crop, harvested from their incoming second album, Wild. While overall bearing semblance to more widely recognized breeds including Helmet, Unsane, Rabbits, Beehoover and the like, the gnarled roots of Wild pair well with Solar Flare labelmates Sofy Major, Pigs and The Great Sabatini.

The generous flesh of “What Are Tuesdays For?,” the fifth of Wild’s seven fruits, is one of the most pungent sections of PORD’s latest yield, The Obelisk Taksmaster stating of the album, “Not short on atmosphere but sacrificing nothing in terms of efficiency in their pummel, PORD unveil a vicious strain of noise that’s anchored by deep low end and positioned sonically for righteous defiance, and of the track itself, “Maddening drum fills underscore the song, while deep-mixed vocals ask the all-pivotal question, ‘What the fuck are Tuesdays for?’ It’s like a conceptual art piece for disillusion…”

Appropriately check out today’s “What Are Tuesdays For?” special courtesy of The Obelisk at THIS LOCATION.

Additionally, Solar Flare has released an amazing, or as they called it, “stupid,” new teaser for Wild RIGHT HERE, and the album’s leading “Staring Into Space” has been served by American Aftermath OVER HERE.

Preorders for Wild on CD are available HERE and the LP (on black or swamp green/bone splatter vinyl) HERE.

With Wild set to be fully available worldwide on September 8th, PORD will traverse the lands preceding the album’s release and well into harvest season mongering their wares. The Wild European Tour begins at Freakshow Festival on August 30th, and will see the trio caravanning into every corner of their home country and into Belgium and Switzerland through Samhain, including two shows with Hammerhead and more, with additional tour dates to be confirmed.

PORD’s brand of output has evolved into complexly structured compositions with a throbbing and hypnotic undertow, along with a sometimes heavy and powerful, sometimes twisted rhythmic section, backed by incredibly tortured vocals. In March of 2014, PORD raided Rec Studio in Geneva to record their sophomore LP with Serge Morattel (Knut, Tantrum, Ventura, Basement…). Dubbed Wild, the strewn but cohesive nature of the band’s output on Wild is as contagious as it is caustic, showing a renewed musical evolution, with PORD’s typical raging sound coupled with a hint of straight rock and roll on a number of songs. With a faster pace and precise execution, their taut and aggressive delivery remains intact throughout the nearly forty-minute venture. The vocals also evolve toward a more rasping, primitive and offbeat rendering of cruder and increasingly straightforward lyrics.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY To Kick Off West Coast Tour This Week; Blind Inducted Into The Decibel Magazine Hall Of Fame

Monday, August 18th, 2014

Following their recent stomp through New Zealand and Australia, North Carolina crossover legends, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, are readying to kick off a short run of West Coast live assaults. The near two-week trek will commence tomorrow in Spokane, and come to a close in Vancouver on September 1st. The band will be joined by Bl’ast!, Brant Bjork & The Low Desert Punk Band and Lord Dying!

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY will be touring in support of their fittingly titled IX full-length released last month via Candlelight Records. Dubbed “a triumph” by the Obelisk, IX was captured by the band alongside longtime friend and colleague John Custer. Clocking in at nearly forty-five minutes, the record offers up the groove-laden sludge/doom/punk concoction fans have come to expect from CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. The Onion’s A.V. Club champions the band’s “…smoke-wreathed grooves and sludgy rushes of belligerence,” furthering that, “the album is a meat-and-potatoes feast,” Rock Revolt notes, “…this album contains the vital elements to satisfy the most fervid CORROSION OF CONFORMITY fan,” Decibel Magazine elaborates, “COC stick to the recipe that served them well on both 2012’s self-titled reboot and the follow-up EP, Megalodon: A little hardcore, a little crossover, a whole lotta Southern rock and (especially) doom metal, all stirred, shuffled, layered and frosted in ways that make guessing their next move impossible. But the band’s strategies are more expansive this time out, their tricks more finely woven into the fabric of each song,” while The Sludgelord adds, “not only does IX deliver what we hoped for, but they surpass that with an unwavering confidence – the sparks are flying on this one.” If you missed it, check out the lyric video for “Tarquinius Superbus” at THIS LOCATION.

In related news, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY’s seminal Blind full-length was recently inducted in the Decibel Magazine Hall Of Fame! Check out the piece in the September 2014 issue available for purchase at THIS LOCATION.
