VOICES: New Record From UK Avant Sound Contortionists Streaming At Cvlt Nation; London To See North American Release Next Tuesday

Friday, January 23rd, 2015

Just days away from its North American release, today Cvlt Nation streams London, the brand new studio offering from UK avant sound contortionists, VOICES, in its entirety.

Delivering fourteen bastardized tracks of progressive blackened psychedelic melancholia centered on the forgotten and diseased underbelly of England’s capital city, VOICES – who features within their twisted ranks former members of Akercocke and My Dying Bride – compose perfectly imperfect sounds to welcome the end of creation, the extinction of the human, the collapse of music as we once knew…

Already reaping critical acclaim throughout European media outlets with Metal Hammer naming the record, “one of the most unique and ambitious metal albums of recent years… from sumptuous beauty through helplessly driven, angular extremity to mind-flaying, id-erupting mania, London is a shattering of the senses, and a psychedelic thrill ride down the rabbit-hole of consciousness,” and Angry Metal Guy assuring, “you’ll be completely captivated right until the final excruciating note,London is earning similar accolades on North American shores. Metal Insider applauds a band, “unafraid of musical exploration,” furthering that, “their ability to seamlessly meld together genres as varied as black and death metal with dark folk and prog rock, among so many others, would be commendable in attempt alone. But the success in which they’ve been able to so perfectly paint this shadow world with music, beyond how they are describing it directly in words, makes this album one of the most distinctive and engaging metal albums in recent memory.” Metal Underground calls London, “a sprawling piece of work,” and a, “solid effort of progressive black/death metal,” Dead Rhetoric commends in an 8.5/10 rating an, “utterly bleak,” offering that captures, “a feeling of a demented rollercoaster ride,” adding, “London is an exquisite trip worth taking on repeated occasions,” while New Noise Magazine notes, “VOICES has certainly crafted a challenging and harsh listen, but that doesn’t diminish how impressive the full result is, given you have the time and energy to take a harrowing journey with these Englishmen.”

Celebrating a record that’s “beautiful and furious, frustrated and self-assured,” VOICES’ London is currently streaming, courtesy of Cvlt Nation, at THIS LOCATION.

VOICES was formed in London in 2011 as a new experiment from guitarist/vocalist Peter Benjamin, drummer David Gray and bassist Sam Loynes (all former members of Akercocke) with a mission to create a deep brand of cold and confronting music, part hypnotic yet often disturbing, focusing from an avant-garde take upon black metal, whilst always striving to explore a wide musical spectrum.

London will be released in North America via Candlelight Records on January 27th, 2015. Preorder your copy today at THIS LOCATION.

FALLOCH: This Island, Our Funeral Full-Length From Scottish Melancholic Post-Metallers Streaming In Its Entirety At Skulls ‘N’ Bones; North American Release Date Draws Near

Friday, January 23rd, 2015

This Island, Our Funeral is the latest long player from Scottish melancholic post-metallers, FALLOCH. Set for release in North America via Candlelight next week, the follow up to 2011’s Where Distant Spirits Remain was tracked at London’s Orgone Studios by Jaime Gomez Arellanu (Ghost, Cathedral, Ulver), and delivers nearly an hour’s worth of dark, chilling odes of atmospheric beauty.

Metal Injection likens the record’s sound to, “a gorgeous blend of the spirit of an Agalloch epic with the epic majesty of a band like Borknagar,” while Lonesome Noise notes, “FALLOCH has created an album that soars above us like a bird of prey, so majestic, so gorgeous, yet ready to strike at any point without much warning. It’s an album that fans of everything from Opeth to Jesu to Agalloch to Tool could find something to latch onto and one that deserves as many repeat listens as you’re willing to give.” Adds Metal Purgatory in a perfect 5/5 review, “If this album can teach us anything, it is that we all come from this Earth and that this will be our funeral grounds. The emotions and power behind this album is immense and incomparable to anything else you will experience…”

Delve into the forlorn world of FALLOCH’s This Island, Our Funeral, currently streaming in full at Skulls ‘N’ Bones HERE.

Forged in Glasgow, Scotland in 2010 by Andy Marshall and Scott McLean and named after the Falls of Falloch waterfall in Crianlarich, FALLOCH draws inspiration from an assortment of genres from metal, atmospheric rock, post-rock and Scottish folk to minimalist composers like Arvo Pärt and Yann Tiersen. Formerly a duo, the band now features an expanded lineup of new vocalist/guitarist Tony Dunn, bassist Ben Brown, and drummer Steve Scott with founder/guitarist McLean.

FALLOCH’s This Island, Our Funeral will be released in North America via Candlelight Records on January 27th, 2015. Preorders are currently available at THIS LOCATION.

LAE: Two New Videos From Break The Clasp And 2xLP Version Of Album Now In Production

Thursday, January 22nd, 2015

Montreal’s psychedelic post-rock quintet, LAE, has put two brand new videos into construction for release over the coming months as the deluxe 2xLP version of their debut LP, Break The Clasp, is about to hit the pressing plant for an early Springtime release. A visual depiction of the diverse track, “Sister,” which features some of the heaviest moments on Break The Clasp and one of the few scathing deliveries from vocalist Steve Austin (Today Is The Day) on the album, has been commissioned to David Hall of Handshake Inc. (Brutal Truth, Today is the Day, Maryland Deathfest: the Movie). Additionally, the members of LAE are working on a video for the album’s magnificently heartbreaking “To Give You The Stars Above” anthem in-house.

Both new visual accompaniments to Break The Clasp will see release late this Winter or early Spring, just as LAE prepares to release the mammoth vinyl edition of the album, which is currently being readied for the pressing plant. The final details on the pressing are still being locked up, but both platters will be constructed of 180-gram or thicker heavyweight vinyl with a colored run, and will be housed in a double gatefold jacket with spot varnish on the front and back, with poly-lined black sleeves and a digital download card. Preorders for the 2xLP edition of Break The Clasp will be available in the coming weeks with a variety of package options.

Stream Break The Clasp in its entirety at THIS LOCATION.

Break The Clasp is out now on The Compound and Battleground Records. The six-panel, spot-varnished, eco-friendly digipak can be ordered HERE, the digital via BandCamp, iTunes , Google Play and more.

A monumentally dejected yet inspiring nearly hour-long psychedelic journey through thirteen dynamic movements, LAE’s Break The Clasp saw its initial digital and CD release at the end of November as a collaborative effort between The Compound Recs, Battleground Records and LAE themselves. Recorded in full analog in main songwriter Marc Lucas Ablasou’s woodshop in Montreal by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day and Austin Enterprises, who provided lead vocals to the entire album, the lineup is completed by Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier, Stephane Desgroseilliers. Re-envisioning their original anthems — penned under initial moniker LAE-TSEU in the mid-late 1990s — alongside new songs, the band recorded live on vintage 1970s equipment utilizing a range of guitars, basses, drums, accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and a multitude of vocal styles into a four-part storyline of life, love, hope and death. Following several overdub sessions at Austin Enterprises where the songs were mixed and mastered, the album was shrouded by otherworldly artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label), completing this transcendentally gloomy yet beautifully delivered opus.

LAE has also been intensely writing new material for their follow-up to Break The Clasp. Check out a photo set of the band in the frozen Montreal Winter on the band’s official Facebook page HERE.

“…the heart-on-sleeve frontman that Austin occasionally embodies is on full display here, with only snippets of backwoods dementia seeping through. And the band has created an ideal atmosphere, borrowing liberally from the likes of Slint and Tortoise with mesmeric rhythms and askew harmonies, while adding dollops of psych and the occasional metallic bombast that’s actually reminiscent of early TITD. 8/10” – Decibel Magazine

“The resultant record is a fragmentary, shifting record, switching between Slint-like passages of angular guitar and sung-spoken vocals and abrasive assaults (witness the caustic fuzz at the core of ‘Sister’), punctuated by acoustic sketches in the shape of ‘Broken Knee’, ‘Let Me Die In The Memory Of Her Arms’ and ‘Space Travel’…” – The Quietus

“…the vitality in the 13 tracks (yes, even the crushingly slow ones) is fresh to the point of its newness, and even the parts meant to be abrasive, opener ‘Sexy Sadie’ or pieces of ‘17 Queen’ for example, hold onto a wonderful depth the mix and a feeling of texture that feeds Break the Clasp’s otherworldly spirit and brings you along its path of consuming strangeness. Austin is a presence, but by no means the star, and the whole band Lae shines across Break the Clasp’s fascinating span. A debut no one knew they were awaiting, but they were.” – The Obelisk

“#22 (out of 100) album of 2014.” – Emoragei Magazine

“…echoes psychedelic progressive rock and post-rock but the overall picture is far more expansive… wholly unique and escapes categorization.” – American Aftermath

DEIVOS: Polish Death Metal Squad Premieres “El Shaddai” From Selfmadegod-Bound Fourth Album At HeavyBlogIsHeavy

Thursday, January 22nd, 2015

Poland’s crucial death/grind label, Selfmadegod Records, has set its sights on February 15th for the release of the severe fourth full-length from their countrymates, DEIVOS, entitled Theodicy. This week, US metal webzine HeavyBlogIsHeavy is helping lay down a salvo of pre-release propaganda by streaming the monstrous second movement, “El Shaddai,” issuing of the track, “Less from the school of Behemoth and borrowing more from their other countrymen Decapitated, Deivos showcase their brutal chops with a plethora of metal technique. The guitar work in the track is as tasteful as technically proficient death metal can get. The jangle of the bass underneath precise guitars and playful percussion (is that a woodblock blast beat?) keeps things interesting throughout the tracks seven minute run time.”

Explore the divine obliteration of DEIVOS’ “El Shaddai” via HeavyBlogIsHeavy RIGHT HERE.

The third track on Theodicy, “Ochlocracy” can also be streamed via SoundCloud and YouTube.

In the US, preorder the standard version of the CD from Earsplit Distro HERE. Preorders for the deluxe CD, limited to 100 copies, regular CD, t-shirts and bundles are available via Selfmadegod HERE and digital HERE.

DEIVOS recorded their first album for Selfmadegod Records, Theodicy, at Zed Studio (Black River, Rootwater, Frontside) with producer Tomek Zalewski. The follow-up to their 2011-released Demiurge Of The Void features the same recording lineup, with vocalist Hubert, guitarists Tomek and Mscislaw, bassist Kamil and drummer Krzysiek, yet takes their cruel and technical death metal to more technical, down-tuned, and outright malicious depths, with six expansive and debilitating tracks of harsh death metal in the realm of Morbid Angel, Suffocation and Cryptopsy, with cover art by Pastor Xisaq Graphics.

HALSHUG: Copenhagen Raw Punk Crew Releases Track From Blodets Bånd Southern Lord Debut Via Cvlt Nation

Thursday, January 22nd, 2015

The nightmare continues with news of Blodets Bånd, the caustic debut LP from Copenhagen raw punks HALSHUG, which will be unchained by Southern Lord on February 24th. As the street date closes in, today, Cvlt Nation unloads the first single from the riotous album today, with the sixth track, “Total Destruktion.”

HALSHUG (which translates to ‘decapitate’) is fast becoming known within Europe’s hallowed DIY routes and enclaves for their impeccably executed hardcore crust, which pays furious tribute to their rich K-town heritage and crucially adds an abrasive modern stomp. With searing distortion, radical d-beat pace, and overblown, reverb-soaked vocals, HALSHUG leaves no room for subtlety or second-guessing across the eight tracks of their first full-length effort, Blodets Bånd. Watch as Blodets Bånd engulfs the world in flames.

Decimate “Total Destruktion” via Cvlt Nation now at THIS LOCATION.

Also check out a trailer for the Blodets Bånd LP HERE.

Blodets Band Track Listing:
1. Gudsforladt
2. Afmagt
3. Inferno
4. Knæl
5. Blodets Bånd
6. Total Destruktion
7. Yderste Rand
8. Kvælende Frygt

Formed in Copenhagen two years ago, the riotous young act, HALSHUG, unloads some of the most traditionally-styled but urgently unloaded traditional crust punk/d-beat hardcore to be found. The enraged sentiment of archetypal leaders of the genre, Doom, Anti Cimex, and no doubt, Discharge, and direct influence drawn from Infernöh, Hoax and Death Token, is unapologetic in its presence in the band’s delivery, which, fueled by society’s modern-day ills, finds HALSHUG already in line with Wolfbrigade, Skitsystem and the best of the movement’s current top acts. Through only an initial demo followed by their 2013-released Dödskontrol 7”, the band has amassed a punishing name early in the powerful trio’s lifespan through regional and even more heavily-concentrated European touring, and continues to expand on their live executions in 2014 with more widespread gigs than ever already ongoing and in the works. Following the release of Blodets Bånd, HALSHUG will tour abroad through Europe and will invade North America for the first time in 2015.
