THE SECRET: Album Details Unveiled

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Trieste, Italy’s crushing quartet THE SECRET are set to drop their upcoming Solve Et Coagula full-length via Southern Lord Recordings this September 28th.

The twelve hellish hymns embodied in Solve Et Coagula were captured by Kurt Ballou (Trap Them, Converge, Cursed) in his infamous Godcity Studios, resulting in cavernous, earthmoving tonal supremacy. Each song preaches of loss of faith in all forms of religion and politics and a vile outlook on humanity as a whole. The album runs rampant with dismantling breakdowns, gargantuan, swelling riffage and jackhammer blastbeats, all empowered by the most shredding vocal attack.

While surely reminiscent of Converge, Cursed and labelmates Black Breath, THE SECRET integrate as much influence from filthy politi-crust acts, as well as psychotic metalcore into Solve Et Coagula’s metallic surge. But no matter how you try to compare or categorize this highly lethal Italian export, the end result is certain; this is the sound of humanity’s failure and defeat, embodied as pure aural rage.

THE SECRET have previously unleashed two full-length releases on now defunct Goodfellow Records (2004’s Luce and 2008’s Disintoxication), and have undergone countless lineup changes and setbacks over the past few years. The current lineup is inarguably the most devastating and concise to date, making Solve Et Coagula their most lethal assault yet.

Solve Et Coagula Track List:
1. Cross Builder
2. Death Alive
3. Double Slaughter
4. Where It Ends
5. Antitalian
6. Weatherman
7. Pleasure In Self Destruction
8. Eve Of The Last Day
9. Pursuit Of Discomfort
10. Bell Of Urgency
11. War Desire
12. 1968

“Pentagrammaton is like a black metal blast from the past, an album that equally pays homage to the subgenre’s early beginnings, yet is exciting enough for today’s extreme metal. ” – Live-Metal

“Pentagrammaton is a very strong effort with numerous devastating riffs, ranging from fast blasting to heavy grooves and all in between. Vocalist Nornagest spews his occult misanthropic lyrics in a decent fashion, true to the scene. This record for sure pushed Enthroned righteously back in the position where they belong, on the forefront of black metal between names like Marduk, Immortal, Darkthrone and Gorgoroth.” — Metal Rage

“…an ordered combination of allure, darkness and power…”
– Blistering

“Pentagrammaton doesn’t rely on fast paced riffs on every song and dives into a variety of melodic mid-tempo riffs in order to create a harsh and chilling atmosphere.” - - Cosmos Gaming

“So much of black metal is hidden under a veil of distortion and Enthroned uncovers the veil but does not give up any of the substance that you come to expect from the genre.” — Bring On Mixed Reviews

U.S. CHRISTMAS: Cover Art + Track Listing Revealed

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Neurot Recordings is proud to unleash the latest full-length from psychedelic, high-volume blues rock ensemble U.S. CHRISTMAS. Entitled Run Thick In The Night, the band’s fifth long player was recorded by Sanford Parker at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee, mixed by Parker and USX members Nate Hall, Matt Johnson and Josh Holt at Semaphore Studios in Chicago, IL and mastered by Collin Jordan. Check out the cover art [by Hush:] here:

Run Thick In The Night Track Listing:
1. In The Night
2. Wolf On Anareta
3. Fire Is Sleeping
4. Fonta Flora
5. Ephraim In The Stars
6. The Leonids
7. Suzerain
8. Maran
9. The Quena
10. Deep Green
11. Devil’s Flower In Mother Winter
12. Mirror Glass
13. The Moon In Flesh And Bone

Hailing from the Appalachian Mountains in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee, U.S. CHRISTMAS create a kaleidoscopic brand of sound that evades easy classification. Founded in Marion, North Carolina in the summer of 2002, the band played rough biker bars, art spaces, and house shows all over the southeast dirt circuit for years, self-releasing albums in rough CDR format. Scott Kelly of Neurosis heard the band’s third record, Salt The Wound (released in Russia by the label RAIG) through his show on Combat Music Radio/KMBT, which inevitably lead to the release of the band’s fourth album Eat The Low Dogs on Neurot Recordings.

USX now approaches a decade of playing, recording, and evolving, and continues to blur the boundaries of heavy music with earsplitting rock that is by turns jangly, crushing, dark and truly eclectic. The band has often been associated with space rock with Germany’s Rolling Stone including the band in an article/compilation CD on the history of that genre. However, USX are not simply continuing the space rock tradition (although the band, alongside Minsk and Harvestman, recorded a tribute to the British space-searchers Hawkwind earlier this year, also released via Neurot), but are rather a group of musicians who pay attention to a wide variety of music from all eras and origins. Close attention to the band’s lyrical content will show that USX is not at all concerned with outer space, but rather  themes of earth, nature and terrestrial human history. In fact, the mountains and people of western North Carolina are a primary influence on the band’s sound. And though many have focused on their use of vintage synthesizers and theremin, the band does not rely on any one instrument to create its bizarre sounds – proof that brains and hands are a musician’s most important tools.

U.S. CHRISTMAS will kick off the weekend performing two special shows with Corrosion Of Conformity before heading out on a handful of one-off performances in September throughout North Carolina including at stop at the Hopscotch Music Fest in Raleigh []. The fest features countless artists from all genres including Weedeater, Harvey Milk and Public Enemy. Confirmed dates below. Further dates TBA.

TRIDENT Confirm First Show On American Soil

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Black metal horde TRIDENT have confirmed their first show in North America, to take place this autumn.

Set for Saturday, October 2nd, the Swedish five-piece will invade Brooklyn to devastate NYC-area diehards at a special one-off U.S. appearance at Club Europa. This will be the only North American live action for TRIDENT for 2010, but is just a taste of what is to come. Stated bassist Alexander Friberg on the concert “We are proud to finally be able to show people of NY the might of the TRIDENT, and all of you should be prepared to face a storm of Nordic rage!”

TRIDENT vs. America:
10/2/2010 Club Europa – Brooklyn, NY w/ Immolith, Evoken

TRIDENT are still supporting their debut full-length World Destruction, which was released on extreme metal label Regain Records in March of this year. A total sonic whirlwind of blistering, blackened death metal, the 10-track album was recorded at Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden with engineers Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) and Nico Elgstrand (Entombed) at the helm. The TRIDENT lineup features metallians Johan Norman (Soul Reaper, Dissection) and Ewo Solvelius on guitars, Alexander Friberg (Necrophobic, Karneywar) on bass, Tobias Sidegård (Necrophobic) on vocals and Jonas Blom (Grief of Emerald) handling drum duty.

“Anytime a former member of Dissection’s The Somberlain lineup is involved in the creation of a new album heads are bound to turn… your only defense is to thrust your fists and horns skyward and scream along with this Swede-metal anthem…” - Hails & Horns

“Put simply, World Destruction is also an album made of many super cool parts – riffs, leads, rhythmic punches. At nearly every turn is a grisly accident scene worth rubber necking for.” - Metal Army America

“Overall this is a pretty intense and crushing debut with the combined years of experience and quality brought to the picture by the collective of veterans. For something so harsh this is very listenable.” 4/5 – Metal-Rules

Interviews with TRIDENT are now available anytime via phone or email, or in-person at the NYC show.

EMPEROR’s “Curse You All Men” And “Inno A Satana” Added To Rock Band Network

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

EMPEROR classics “Curse You All Men (Live)” and “Inno A Satana (Live)” are now available for download via Rock Band 2 for Xbox 360. Both songs are taken from EMPEROR’s 2009 double-live album, Live Inferno. The songs represent UK-based Candlelight Records’ first to appear via the popular music video game.

Members of EMPEROR, with Brooklyn-based Noisy Puppet Studios, have been working for months scripting, testing, mixing and perfecting the songs. Founder/developer Jeremy Parker says “these tracks will put you through the ringer on every instrument. It’s a struggle to survive but once you master these tracks you have lived through one of the most intense, powerful, rock game-play ever seen.”

Guitar and drumming charts were quite a challenge to development during the creative process confirms Parker. “Both songs are a torture session that seems to never end,” he says. “And the expert drum chart in ‘Curse You…’ is the most difficult challenge ever seen in a music video game. You may need a friend to play the kick drum pedal for you, just to play half the hits from the live performance.”

EMPEROR/The Wretched End guitarist Samoth notes, “we think it’s great kids want to be able to play more classic extreme metal! EMPEROR is pleased to offer these songs to those that dare to give them a try!”

Vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn adds, “several of my guitar students started out with music games and I believe this is how many young people develop a more passionate relationship to bands and songs these days. It’s cool to be part of it.”

EMPEROR released their swansong, Prometheus – The Discipline Of Fire And Demise, early September 2001. It was an epic and progressive metal album that once and for all marked EMPEROR as one of the most adventurous and gifted black metal bands of all times. In 2005, EMPEROR surprised all with an unannounced appearance at Oslo’s famed Inferno Fest.  Following the performance, the band announced additional concerts that would include a visit to America; marking the second trip to the states in the band’s legendary career. Fans flocked to New York City and Los Angeles to witness the sold out performances. In 2007, additional shows would see the band return to the US for a repeat performance in New York City, a stop in Chicago, and what would be their final American performance in Los Angeles.

Released in April of last year, Live Inferno is an exclusive/professionally tracked live recordings.  The beautiful 2xCD package contains a stunning 16-page booklet capturing the inner details of the special reunion performances from both band and fan perspectives. Also released was a lavish deluxe version which included an enhanced 24-page booklet plus the 70-minute Live At Wacken Open Air DVD in a captivating box.

Noisy Puppet Studios works with premier labels and bands to develop quality downloadable content for Rock Band video games. The company offers a full authoring service, which includes charting the game-play for all of a song’s playable parts, programming character animations, and designing lighting and cinematography for the in-game venue.

Free demos of the songs are available to Xbox LIVE members by visiting the links below.
