South Carolina metal/hardcore titans YOUR SPIRIT DIES today unleash their video for “Born Forsaken.” The band’s latest bruiser comes by way of their equally crushing full-length debut, My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest, out today on MNRK Heavy!

Comments vocalist Brandon Byars on “Born Forsaken.” “The track is about how mankind has been killing the earth for generations and the ones who are living now are facing those consequences. Essentially, it’s a realization that it may be too late to change the outcome. By the end of the song, it’s an interesting combination of ‘becoming at peace’ with knowing the death of the planet is inevitable before it descends into one of the most destructive sections on the record, kinda sonically representing the end of the world.”

Small towns across America are home to countless untold stories, and Columbia, the state capital of South Carolina, is no exception. With a population just over 140K, this city may be small, but it’s big on spirit. YOUR SPIRIT DIES, hailing from this very place, channels that humble yet fierce energy, embodying an underdog work ethic and an unstoppable fire.

The members of YOUR SPIRIT DIES each cut their teeth in other regional favorites, with Byars and guitarist Holden Hall in Remembrance, guitarist Tyler Dorman in Hopesick, and bassist Keagan McChesney in Soul Press, while Brannon Crumpton does double duty on drums in Moru. The band arrived in 2020 with the debut EP, The Process Of Grief. Two years later, they accelerated their ascent with a follow-up EP, Our Saints Drown In Ash.

Signing to MNRK Heavy, the musicians crafted what would become My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest in Connecticut alongside producer Greg Thomas [END, Misery Signals]. The guys not only leaned into influences as diverse as At The Gates, Killswitch Engage, Napalm Death, and Godflesh, but they also culled inspiration from giallo horror classics a la The Beyond. Samples from the latter were even woven into the fabric of the soundscape alongside the screams of Mia Goth from MaXXXine.

“…My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest hearkens back to the heyday of Jasta-hosted Headbangers Ball. More specifically, they embody the precise moment of transition between Myspace and Facebook as cutting-edge music promotion tools. In an ocean of Knocked Looses and Code Oranges, YOUR SPIRIT DIES’ earnest love letter to the Ozzfest second stage milieu in pleasant and refreshing…The band’s great strength is in their ability to replicate the full spectrum of that genre’s various tropes and – this is the hard part! – arrange and deploy those tropes to maximum effect.” – Decibel Magazine

With the pure intensity and stunning instrumental dynamism, it should come as no surprise that YOUR SPIRIT DIES hosts a strong and powerful vocal element as well. With harsh, belted screams capable of both piercing yells and blistering low bellows, the vocals throughout My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest are exactly what they need to be. Sincere at times, scalding and primal at others…an outstanding release…” New Transcendence

“It is exceedingly rare to the point of perhaps being unheard of that a band can knock a debut out of the very stratosphere and lay the blueprint for how to properly co-mingle multiple domains of metal into a full-length composition. My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest is a diamond-in-the-rough anomalous gem that towers above a long line of first steps into the underground music scene.” – Boolin Tunes

“This record is heavy, dynamic, and angry. Occasional melo-death riffs give the songs metal bona fides, but they more often choose dissonance and chugs to deliver their pissed-off punch. This one had my head bobbing, fist-pumping, and soul reminiscing about a time when the hairstyles were dumber, but the music was better.” – Metal Digest
