VOIDCEREMONY: Abditum, The Third LP From California-Based Progressive Death Metal Faction, Now Streaming; Album Out Friday On 20 Buck Spin

Abditum, the elaborate third album from Ramona, California-based progressive death metal outfit VOIDCEREMONY, is now streaming in its entirety ahead of its release this Friday on 20 Buck Spin.

Emerging with a labyrinthine work of creativity constructed with an intensity both unrelenting and precise, VOIDCEREMONY returns with their signature sound, an abstract and scathing zone of musical obscurity rife with cynicism toward humanity. Abditum unfurls with a sense of arcane design where twisting riffs clash and converge in unforeseen sequences.

Composed by Wandering Mind (aka Garrett Johnson), the otherworldly riffing spirals into altered shapes, conjuring tones that veer between luminous clarity and abyssal murk. Joined in the darkness by guitarist The Archonoclast (Jayson McGehee), drummer Dylan Marks (Athiest-live), and bass co-conspirators The Great Righteous Destroyer (Damon Good of Mournful Congregation, Stargazer, Cauldron Black Ram) and The Absent Deity (Ben Ricci), in tandem they create a cacophony of hellish jazz-inflected discord and unpredictable texture; every composition a descent into shifting caverns, where sudden openings reveal hidden pathways only to close again with finality. Existing within an unawakened mind, contemplate a journey through the landscapes of Abditum, a region replete with the harmonies of the spheres and ever evolving chaos. These elements create a world that is alien yet meticulously considered. VOIDCEREMONY once again resists easy grasp, demands immersion and rewards repeated exploration, materializing new contours perpetually.

Abditum was recorded by CK at Exum Studios in Escondido California, with additional guitar, solos, and vocals tracked by Jon Hasz at RMC, and the bass tracks recorded in both the U.S. and Australia. The album was mixed and mastered by Andy Kite at Against the Grain Studio in South Australia and completed with art and layout by Khuzuzu. Fans of Stargazer, Pestilence, Chthe’ilist, Morbid Angel, Immolation, The Chasm, Aenigmatum, Atheist, Timeghoul, Liers In Wait, and Innana should not miss VOIDCEREMONY’s Abditum.

From the Wandering Mind: “With Abditum’s release, I will say I’m pleased in the process and final product. This is the proper sequel to Foul Origins Of Humanity. It is as imperfect as it is perfect to me. I also want to say thank you to everyone listening, both past fans and new fans alike. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.”

“The misanthropy and nihilism that formed the Ramona, California progressive death metal project’s early works has receded into a complex, absurdist framework of existentialism. This might be why VOIDEREMONY’S latest tour de force, Abditum, is as exhilarating and life-affirming as it is a record of total obliteration, inviting you into the chaos engine of Johnson’s mind. It’s a recording that demands close listening to reveal the world within.” – Decibel Magazine

“…VOIDCEREMONY retrain their aim on toothy technical death metal. Call it Atheist with harsher vocals and harder riffs, or call it Cynic without the science fiction, or call it latter-day Death with dynamic song structures…” – Invisible Oranges

VOIDCEREMONY manage to combine the ideas, insane ability, and creativity most bands of this ilk would stretch over 70 minutes into a compact journey that’s over in a little less than 30 minutes on Abditum. This is a real mind-melter, but it’s one that won’t leave you sifting through a million twists and turns to get to the point, fun as that may be. This is progressive death in digestible chunks that are just as satisfying and don’t leave behind bloat.” – Meat Mead Metal
