DISPOSSESSED infuses elements of sludge, doom, and death metal into a commanding sound rooted in anger, despair, and political resistance. Formed in 2014, the band emerged from Portland’s metal scene with a mission to confront systems of oppression through uncompromising, feedback-driven music. Their sound combines slow-burning riffs, bleak atmospheres, and a raw, aggressive energy that draws influence from bands like Corrupted, Asunder, Winter, and Grief. Lyrically and thematically, DISPOSSESSED engages directly with issues such as systemic violence, environmental destruction, and carceral injustice, grounding their work in anti-authoritarian ideals.

In 2019, DISPOSSESSED released their debut full-length, Exanimate; a searing critique of societal collapse. They returned in 2022 with the “Makhnovshchina” single, continuing to explore revolutionary themes through crushing, emotionally charged compositions.

“DISPOSSESSED have dialed in all the tonal ingredients necessary to crack skulls, loosen bowels, and to render mood mangling experiences of morbid gloom, wrenching agony, putrefying degradation, and crypt-dwelling horror.” – No Clean Singing

“Death/doom metal in the hands of DISPOSSESSED is an excruciating experience, a common theme throughout their second album, Democide. These four songs are paced as if the very idea of being fleet-footed is an irredeemable offense. The occasional burst of double bass drumming from L. MacDonald almost breaks out of this self-induced prison, but it’s a failed escape every time.” – Heavy Music HQ

“…like wandering into a nightmare that’s already ongoing; it may not be everything that haunts your soul but it’s not going to cease anytime soon…It clearly possesses enormous size and knows how to use its weight to its advantage, hurling monstrous riffs the size of mountains at you…” – The Razors Edge Rocks

“They wreak havoc, they crush cities, and maim onlookers while challenging injustice, encouraging critical thinking, and addressing societal collapse. They turn the mirror on us with engaging, emotionally charged, and often scathing compositions.” – Black Angel Promotions

“…all of the sonic excess served here all is buttoned-up, tightly performed and arranged to the point that Dispossessed appear as a timeworn and largely memorable death/doom metal band from any angle…” – Mystification ‘Zine

“It sounds as if a colossus is striding through the world declaring its judgment upon us. The earth shakes with each step and each booming proclamation of guilt. Dread fills you as you see the colossal eye peers down and render its scrutiny. The riffs and drums are measured and deliberate. Their rumble imitates soil and stone grinding as the pace labors along.” – Metal Digest
