Bronx, New York metallic hardcore quartet XTINGUISH THE CODE has issued a new video for the two-part “Declaration/Doomsday Cult,” through an exclusive premiere hosted by No Echo. The track can be found on the band’s second album, The Conflict, out now on Grey Matter Records.
A band with NYHC in its DNA, XTINGUISH THE CODE formed in 2019, currently uniting bassist Dusty Onita (Apparition, 4 In Tha Chamber), drummer Nate Boogie (Lake Lanier, No Weapon, MAAFA), guitarist The Professor G Flava (Apparition, No Weapon, Waist In Flesh, Gemini Method), and vocalist BJ Allen (Zero Trust, Full Scale Riot, GMK). They deliver streetwise, energetic, beatdown-driven and groove-based hardcore, infused with elements of metal, hip-hop, and more. The band has played with D.R.I., Sworn Enemy, Downset, Madball, Life Of Agony, Sick Of It All, and many others. Following their Step To My World debut (2021) and subsequent Matter Of Fact EP (2023) – both through 1054 Records — XTINGUISH THE CODE hooked up with Grey Matter Records for the release of their second album, The Conflict.
XTINGUISH THE CODE’s explosive hybrid of rabid antagonism culminates on The Conflict, which marks the band’s first release with new drummer Nate Boogie and vocalist BJ Allen, as well as their first conceptual release, crafting a story that touches on working-class solidarity and global awakening. Each song portrays a person’s transformation from an ordinary resident to a radicalized citizen. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Joe Kusak at Amplitude Recording, former vocalist Kevin Lugo provides additional guest vocals on the track “Safe Space.” XTINGUISH THE CODE’s The Conflict is prime listening for fans of Incendiary, Burn, E-Town Concrete, Backtrack, Merauder, Bulldoze, Sworn Enemy, Downset, and Madball.
The intense new video was directed by renowned videographer Derek Soto at the massive Fuse-Brooklyn soundstage and marks XTINGUISH THE CODE’s most political statement yet. Vocalist BJ Allen writes, “‘Declaration/Doomsday Cult’ is a two-part song. ‘Declaration’ is about a citizen drawing a line in the sand by no longer falling for the prescribed narratives being forced upon them. ‘Doomsday Cult’ is about the ease in which faith can be used to manipulate a mass amount of people to actively work against the tenets of their faith.’
About the video, he reveals, “We wanted to highlight things that sometimes get justified by ‘moral superiority’ by using harsh images to help navigate the song. Luckily, we had an opportunity to work in an amazing soundstage thanks to my longtime friend Joseph White of Fuse-BK. Fuse is a virtual soundstage that uses state of the art LED video walls, which gave our director Dereck Soto the ability to immerse the performance into some pretty horrific scenes.”
