“Chainsawman,” the gnarled new single from Salem, Massachusetts’ THE FRĒQS, is now streaming through an exclusive premiere at New Noise Magazine. The song is the latest preview of the band’s incoming debut LP, No God On The Gold Coast.

THE FRĒQSNo God On The Gold Coast rips through eight songs in less than twenty-six minutes, boiling their infectious noise/indie-rock influenced punk energy down to an even more potent and grimy bisque than ever before. Snarling feedback is held at bay only by the barbed-wire chords while hammering rhythms drive the low-end currents beefing with the vocal dirge.

Chaotic and unhinged don’t quite apply, as the record flows with greased perfection, thanks to the prime production. The record was produced, engineered, and mixed by Alex Allinson at The Bridge Sound & Stage Music (Isis, Lesotho, Miracle Blood), mastered by Keith Gentile at Labyrinth Audio, and completed with artwork by Ellis Roundy (The P.A.’s, Pink Lids). Additional vocals are provided by area noiseboys Nicholas Pentabona (BEDTIMEMAGIC) on “Lo IQ” and Andrew Wong (Miracle Blood) on “Secondhand Jesus.” Fans of Unsane, Karp, Laughing Hyenas, Pissed Jeans, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, McClusky, God Bullies, Cherubs, Intercourse, Melvins, and Miracle Blood will no doubt dig THE FRĒQS.

Guitarist/vocalist Seth Crowell states, “The ‘Chainsawman’ lyrics serve as a reflection on the emotional unavailability between fathers and sons. Seth was messing around on a Bass VI (first time on a FRĒQS track) and this song immediately spilled out. It’s become a favorite of ours for closing out shows. We got the sound using an old broken Sunn Beta Lead we had lying around and a Pignose amp borrowed from Bedtimemagic.”

THE FRĒQS (pronounced Freaks) crafts a distinctive and debilitating brew of riff-heavy, fuzzed-out, noise rock, taking influence from bands like Melvins, Queens Of The Stone Age, and The Jesus Lizard into crushing and dirge-strewn realms. Across four EPs and several singles, the power trio – guitarist/vocalist Seth Crowell, bassist/vocalist Ian Mandly, and drummer Zack Fierman – was nominated for Best Rock Artist Of The Year at the Boston Music Awards in 2021.

Following four EPs and multiple singles since their 2019 inception, THE FRĒQS’ long-awaited debut album No God On The Gold Coast sees the band aiming to shape a new era for the band with a darker, more chaotic and frantic new direction.
