Sacramento funeral doom duo OROMET will release their stunningly immersive second full-length, The Sinking Isle, on November 7th via Hypaethral Records and Transylvanian Recordings.

OROMET was forged in 2022 by guitarist/vocalist Dan Aguilar and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Hills with the aim of creating powerful music where melody is the focal point, rather than an afterthought. OROMET sculpts towering, monumental funeral doom epics. Transcendent guitar harmonies soar over immense, swirling soundscapes while agonizing vocals howl from cavernous depths. Their self-titled debut captured that vision: an epic exploration of grandeur intertwining a profound sense of beauty with crushing heaviness.

For their forthcoming second album, The Sinking Isle, Hills and Aguilar turn their focus to a darker tone, while still crafting an album that feels like a direct continuation from their debut. Adrift on cataclysmic seas, melody remains their compass – a hopeful light guiding the listener through themes of loss, nostalgia, and pessimism.

Visually, OROMET draws from the paintings of fantasy artist Ted Nasmith, whose work adorns both albums and resonates with the band’s philosophy and lyrical themes. The debut’s covert art reflected their upward gaze; The Sinking Isle’s depicts a darker pessimism. Together, they form a mythic diptych of creation and destruction; longing and loss. OROMET stands at the intersection of sorrow and transcendence. Where some seek to immiserate and drown the listener, OROMET explores the complete nature of sorrow as the band weaves the choke of despair and the lightness of serenity. At times the music flows like a winding stream, and at others it towers overhead like a frigid peak, piercing the clouds.

The band comments, “The Sinking Isle represents a natural progression from our debut. The foundational elements remain, but a lot of new territory is explored that was only briefly glimpsed before. The instrumentation is denser and more intricate, while the climactic moments resonate with greater power and grandeur. Thematically, the album focuses on the inevitability of collapse and the cycles of ruin and rebirth. These patterns exist on both macro/global and micro/personal levels, with each song examining them in different ways.”

In advance of the record’s release, today OROMET unveils first single, “Forsaken Tarn,” elaborating of the moving hymn, “The track is about self-reflection and learning from the mistakes of our ancestors. Much of the wisdom we gain from our elders comes from recognizing the paths that led to their ruin. As we look to the past, we must take care not to let reflection transform into rumination, lest we lose sight of our own path.”
