“…a genre-shattering enigma…” – Deaf Sparrow
Chicago’s BLIND EQUATION returns in 2025 with their third LP, A Funeral In Purgatory, out today on Prosthetic Records!
Arguably their most ambitious release to date, A Funeral In Purgatory sees BLIND EQUATION exploring new territory by adding more gothic metal and death/doom elements to their boundless and ever-growing cybergrind sound. Notes the band’s key songwriter, James McHenry, “This is the most aggressive and most violently passionate the project has ever been, yet it is the most atmospheric and still shimmers melodically when it needs to. The heavy moments are heavier and the soft moments are even more vulnerable as well. With the project being 90% digital, I wanted the instrumentals to still be as emotional as the lyrics and vocals and I feel they compliment each other the best they ever have for this record.”
The record includes guest appearances from experimental rap artist Johnnascus and the MySpace-era trancecore artist Strawberry Hospital, both of whom help to expand the sprawling musical landscape.
BLIND EQUATION’s A Funeral In Purgatory is out now on CD, LP, and digital formats. Find orders at: https://lnk.to/BlindEquation.

“With A Funeral In Purgatory, BLIND EQUATION has crafted what will likely be remembered as the project’s magnum opus, a feat many thought unreachable after the success of Death Awaits. The passion poured into this record is undeniable, yet it avoids the clichés that often plague emotionally heavy material. McHenry has once again proven himself a musical force of nature, and BLIND EQUATION more than just a band, it’s a labour of love, both for its creator and its fans. ” — Boolin Tunnes
“This isn’t just glitchy, grungy noise; it’s a dense, visceral pain journal written by the hands of post-pubescent angst and gothic anime sensibilities. The sweeping electronic patterns, layered over what can only be described as distorted keytar riffs, forge a spellbinding fusion that utterly defies easy categorization… the ultimate result is a genre-shattering enigma, one that will challenge even the most seasoned listener to pinpoint what the hell BLIND EQUATION has actually accomplished. Their future journey promises to be nothing short of extraordinary.” — Deaf Sparrow
“BLIND EQUATION is definitely a very original band that is not afraid to push boundaries and A Funeral In Purgatory is definitely one of the most unique releases you will hear in 2025.” – Infernal Masquerade
“…one of the most fun and engaging electronic music releases I’ve encountered this year… if you don’t mind your metal chipped to oblivion, laced with ecstasy, dressed in all black, with a raven perched on its shoulder, then A Funeral In Purgatory might just be your poison.” – Angry Metal Guy
“It feels cheap and pedantic to try and encapsulate BLIND EQUATION by comparing them to other, more familiar bands, but it’s the only tool I have to try and communicate effectively something foreign to me. “A Funeral in Purgatory” is part Ministry, part Browning, part Combichrist, part Ghostemane, part sixteen-bit era Final Fantasy soundtrack, and a dash of…hell, I don’t know… dance pop?… It’s opened a door for me that I didn’t know existed, given me a new subject I can talk about at the water cooler (much to the horror of my colleagues.)” — Bloody Good Music
