IMMORTAL BIRD: Chicagoan Blackened Death Thrashers Announce Autumn Live Infiltration

Monday, September 15th, 2014

Chicagoan blackened death/thrash day-ruiners, IMMORTAL BIRD, will bring their odes of deviance and decay to the stage next month on a short rash of North American live incursions.

Set to initiate on October 15th, 2014 on their home turf at the Cobra Lounge, IMMORTAL BIRD will pillage their way through nine metropolises sharing the stages with Pyrrhon, Krieg and Dead Congregation on select dates. The tour follows the band’s recent takeover of Tampa’s Southern Darkness Fest last month and marks their first time ever performing on Canadian soil.

Relays vocalist/drummer Rae Amitay: “Our little road trip to St. Louis with Mortals in July and our not-so-little road trip to Tampa for Southern Darkness Fest made us want to go out for a bit longer this Fall. We’ve been writing a lot of material for our new album and we’re looking forward to taking some of it on the road before we record. Plus, we all want to see some of that famed New England Fall foliage. Nothing says ‘kvlt as fvck’ like hot apple cider and sweater weather.”

IMMORTAL BIRD Autumn 2014 Tour:
10/15/2014 Cobra Lounge – Chicago, IL at Cobra Lounge w/ Pyrrhon, Artificial Brain
10/16/2014 Coach & Horses – Windsor, ON
10/17/2014 Duffy’s Tavern – Toronto, ON
10/18/2014 Sammy’s Patio – Revere, MA
10/20/2014 Saint Vitus – Brooklyn, NY w/ Dead Congregation, Mausoleum, Pissgrave, Svart Crown
10/21/2014 Millcreek Tavern – Philadelphia, PA w/ Krieg
10/22/2014 Skid Row Garage – York, PA w/ Krieg
10/23/2014 Howlers – Pittsburgh, PA
10/24/2014 Carabar – Columbus, OH

IMMORTAL BIRD continues to tour in support of their maniacal Akrasia EP, released late last year via .Closed Casket Recordings. Recorded at Lo-Tech Laboratories by unsung Windy City audio magician Jeff Ziolo, mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge, Isis, High On Fire, Skeletonwitch) at Godcity Studio, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, From Ashes Rise, Nails, All Pigs Must Die) at Audiosiege, Akrasia thrusts forth four disparaging hymns of hate, gracefully consuming grimness and psychosomatic anguish all led by the punishing vocal ambushes of Amitay (Thrawsunblat). Nearly twelve months since its official descent, the EP continues to earn critical accolades from respected media outlets both stateside and abroad. Decibel Magazine calls Akrasia, “dark and twisting,” while Invisible Oranges commends the EP’s, “inward-looking cosmopolitan ugliness that sometimes evokes a less-patient version of early Castevet.” Elsewhere the sentiment echoes. The Chicago Reader applauds the band’s, “…sick and greasy black metal that does an admirable job inventing the sound of a mind tearing itself apart,” in a 10/10 rating This Is Not A Scene applauds Akrasia’s “…nineteen minutes of metal greatness,” while Metalbandcamp.com likens the band to a, “death metal Ludicra.”

Check out a recent in-depth interview with Amitay courtesy of Invisible Oranges HERE as well as some  vicious live footage of the band performing “The Pseudoscientist” below.

BLOODTRUTH: Italian Death Metal Miscreants Drop Playthrough Video At Gear Gods; Obedience To Dominate Ears This Tuesday!

Friday, September 12th, 2014

Italian death metal miscreants, BLOODTRUTH, will levy the auditory punishment of their debut album, Obedience, upon the ears of the living this coming Tuesday. Flaunting ten blazing anthems of unadulterated lyrical hatred released through incinerating waves of limb-removing, guttural metal, Obedience was engineered by Francesco Paoli and Cristiano Trionfera (both of Fleshgod Apocalypse) at Sonic Hammer Studios, mixed and mastered by Italian death metal producer and legend Stefano Morabito of 16th Cellars Studios (Hour of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Eyeconoclast, Inherit Disease), and is enshrouded with some of the most intense artwork to date by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design (Exodus, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Kataklysm). Says Dead Rhetoric in an 8/10 review of the record, “despite the blitzkrieg that is invoked through these nine tracks (the album opens to some cool chanting), there is a flow and careful precision to the album and the fusion of the vocals and guitar riffs will keep you quite intrigued. ‘Quench Your Thirst,’ ‘Firesworn,’ and ‘Surrounded By Blind Bigots’ should all convey this message effectively: riff fast and furious, but with purpose (and tasteful solos).”

In advance of its impending release, today Gear Gods brings fans and soon-to-be BLOODTRUTH converts a “Surrounded By Blind Bigots” playthrough video that’ll probably make you wish you practiced more. Notes the doers of Gear Gods, “There’s something to be said for making things look easy. Wait; let me rephrase that. You could know fuck all about playing an instrument and it would still be obvious that nothing happening in BLOODTRUTH’s ‘Surrounded By Blind Bigots’ playthrough is easy. The word I’m looking for is ‘effortless.’ Guitarist Stefano Rossi Ciucci in particular looks like he’s waiting for a bus. He seems vaguely aware of the guitar on his knee, and would likely be surprised that it’s his hands flying around at light speed on that fretboard. I suppose that drummer Giacomo Torti can probably tell that his legs are flailing around to pull of that heel/toe double kick wizard shit he has going on, but he doesn’t seem particularly winded by it.”

Peep for yourself at THIS LOCATION.

And while you’re at it, check out the band’s lyric video for “Foresworn” still playing at Metal Assault RIGHT HERE.

Initially forged in 2009 as the side project of Fleshgod Apocalypse members Francesco Paoli and Paolo Rossi and now featuring the updated lineup of vocalist Luigi Valenti, guitarist Stefano Rossi Ciucci, bassist Riccardo Rogari and drummer Giacomo Torti, BLOODTRUTH heaves forth a sonic fireball of speed, brutality and unadulterated hate. Fusing the cryptic atmosphere of early ‘90s death metal and evocative Gregorian chant, representing the band’s homeland and history, with methodical technicality, BLOODTRUTH are ceaseless in their ear-lacerating capabilities. A visual teaser for Obedience was previously released HERE.

Unique Leader Records will release Obedience on September 16th, 2014. Order your copy at THIS LOCATION.

ORANGE GOBLIN Premieres New Video Via Noisey; Back From The Abyss To Drop Next Month

Friday, September 12th, 2014

With the release of Back From The Abyss, the forthcoming new full-length from stoner metal icons ORANGE GOBLIN, now less than one month away, today Noisey thrusts forth opening rager, “Sabbath Hex.”

Bedecked in high-speed psychedelic visuals and an occultish-vibe, the Michael Dickinson-produced clip is currently slaying eye holes via Noisey at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, check out the Motörheadian dirt rock swagger of “The Devil’s Whip” still streaming at Loudwire HERE.

Recorded earlier this year in London, ORANGE GOBLIN’s Back From The Abyss was produced by Jamie Dodd, mastered at Turan Audio and follows the band’s most successful release, 2012’s A Eulogy For The Damned, and the recent reissue of their 2007 album Healing Through Fire. Rocking hard as fans have come expect, Back From The Abyss shows not only the band’s signature blues ‘n’ doom persuasion but the high caliber of their musicianship. In an advance 9/10 review of the record, This Is Not A Scene crowns Back From The Abyss, “another triumph for ORANGE GOBLIN,” furthering that it maintains the band’s, “consistent level of songwriting and performance all the way through its twelve tracks that make this their most accomplished album to date. Proof that hard work does indeed pay off.”

Together since 1995, ORANGE GOBLIN has released seven full-length studio albums. A Eulogy For The Damned was the band’s first for Candlelight Records and closed a five year recording hiatus. The album was supported with the most live dates by the band in their history; touring that saw the band on North American soil first alongside Clutch then on a full-scale headlining tour that found them on thirty-eightstages across the US and Canada. Two videos were filmed and released for the album, including “Red Tide Rising” and the special Scion A/V video for “Acid Trials.”

Back From The Abyss will be released October 7th, 2014 via Candlelight Records. Order your copy at THIS LOCATION.

IDES OF GEMINI: Los Angeles’ Unearthly Sound Alchemists Premiere New Canticle Via Cvlt Nation; Old World New Wave To Drop This Tuesday

Thursday, September 11th, 2014

Los Angeles-based trio, IDES OF GEMINI, conjure the sounds of ethereal nightmares, where life, death and bereavement become one and the same – at once terrifying and enchanting; threatening yet indulging…

Featuring guitarist Jason Bennett, drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson and singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of West Coast dark-psych conjurors Black Mare, IDES OF GEMINI will unveil the consuming sounds of their long-awaited Old World New Wave full-length this Tuesday via Neurot Recordings.  In celebration of its imminent release, today Cvlt Nation offers up seventh track, “Fememorde,” for public consumption.

Notes Bennett of the hymn, “‘Fememorde’ is the first song that was written for Old World New Wave, and appears on the ‘new wave’ side of the album. In that sense, it was the impetus for the entire OWNW concept. It’s a completely different kind of song for us — probably because all the guitar parts were composed in my head rather than on an actual guitar. That hadn’t happened before and hasn’t happened since. So I’ll chalk this one up to something like destiny.”

Bask in the echo of “Fememorde,” now playing at Cvlt Nation at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, confront “The Adversary,” still streaming at Revolver Magazine at THIS LOCATION as well as “The Chalice & The Blade,” now playing at Noisey HERE.

Old World New Wave, the follow-up to the band’s critically-adored Constantinople debut, was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson.

In related IDES OF GEMINI news, the band will take to the stage this Fall on a pair of live performances, the first serving as the trio’s official record release gala in Los Angeles, the second playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show. Additional IDES ceremonies will to be announced in the coming weeks.

IDES OF GEMINI Live:
9/19/2014 The Complex – Los Angeles, CA Record Release Show w/ Ancestors, Glaare, Maja D’Aoust (as The Oracle) [info]
12/18/2014 The Roxy – Los Angeles, CA [info]

Old World New Wave will be released on CD and digitally via Neurot Recordings and on vinyl via SIGE Records on September 16th, 2014. For CD orders, point your browser HERE and for T-shirt bundles, point your browser to THIS LOCATION.

[IDES OF GEMINI are] about to put out a new album called Old World New Wave and there’s enough droney doom on it to make you feel like you’re stuck in David Lynch’s dreams.” – Noisey

COC stick to the recipe that served them well on both 2012’s self-titled reboot and the follow-up EP, Megalodon: A little hardcore, a little crossover, a whole lotta Southern rock and (especially) doom metal, all stirred, shuffled, layered and frosted in ways that make guessing their next move impossible. But the band’s strategies are more expansive this time out, their tricks more finely woven into the fabric of each song.” – Decibel

“Not only does IX deliver what we hoped for, but they surpass that with an unwavering confidence – the sparks are flying on this one.” – The Sludgelord

PYRRHON’s The Mother Of Virtues take its listeners on a traumatic sonic voyage into the darkest portals of musical severity with a mind-altering synthesis of clanging death, dark jazz rhythms, twisted storytelling and subtle shades of otherworldly psychedelia. HeavyBlogIsHeavy calls the record, “delightfully off-kilter and forever twisting,” Pitchfork dubs it, “…interesting and audacious…” while Noisey elaborates, “NYC’s PYRRHON sits alone in the fold between a pair of local giants, Unsane and Suffocation. The band clearly leans on its nerdier than thou technical death metal approach to provide the backbone of what they do, but for some of the breakdowns and parts that surround the fretboard wizardry is a devotion to the noisy, misanthropy found on records by Today Is The Day and most of the early Am-Rep roster. It’s a mix of intelligent hatred that could only come from the five boroughs…” Adds Sputnik in a perfect 4/4 score, “Virtues’ greatest success is it’s unwillingness to play by the rules… It’s an album built off the backs of Gorguts and Converge but with legs spastically moving in directions akin to and opposite of those bearers. The replay value feels astronomical as identifying even the simplest of riffs feels like open heart surgery with the tension to match, but it’s that itch to keep digging, to hear more through the layers of feedback and bellowed growls that one finds rewards with the reaping.”

CANNIBAL CORPSE: Legendary Death Metal Unit Unleashes “The Murderer’s Pact” Via Loudwire; Band Prepares To Drop Thirteenth Full-Length

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Following its premiere this past weekend on Full Metal Jackie’s syndicated radio show, today long-running death metal behemoths, CANNIBAL CORPSE deliver “The Murderer’s Pact” via empire sound portal, Loudwire.

“The Murderer’s Pact” serves as the sixth cut of sonic punishment from CANNIBAL CORPSE’s forthcoming A Skeletal Domain full-length, set for official detonation via Metal Blade Records on September 16th, 2014.

Comments Loudwire: “The band has been spewing out death metal for over twenty-five years, and A Skeletal Domain, much like CANNIBAL CORPSE’s first twelve albums, takes no prisoners. Clocking in at over five minutes, ‘The Murderer’s Pact’ showcases some awesome musicianship from the band’s instrumental sections along with an interesting song structure. For fans of George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher, you’re in for a treat, as well. The vocalist also delivers with his trademark grunt, showing no signs of vocal rust whatsoever.”

Get brutal with “The Murderer’s Pact,” now playing at THIS LOCATION.

A Skeletal Domain marks CANNIBAL CORPSE’s astounding thirteenth full-length. Produced by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver) at Audio Hammer Studios, the record heaves forth twelve ill-omened tracks in forty-four skin-searing minutes, the result of which is a colossal, confrontational, and meticulously-executed aural attack that finds the band at the peak of their notoriously hyper-kinetic viciousness. In an 8/10 rating of A Skeletal Domain, Decibel elaborates, “‘Vector Of Cruelty’ is a masterful combination of coruscating mid-pace burl and quirky thrash, ‘The Murderer’s Pact’ pushes boundaries in the fields of lead work and atonality, while ‘Kill Or Become’ has a sizzling, infectious quality and the potential to be a set closer should they ever quit it with ‘Hammer Smashed Face.’… the point is, there’s material on lucky number thirteen that stands up to the classics.” Adds Sputnik Music in a near perfect 4/5 score, “CANNIBAL CORPSE have pushed the technicality of their songs without forgetting the brutality or speed that fans have come to expect. They have also added a thrash element that periodically rears its head before being murdered by another blast beat and atonal guitar solo. Together all of these elements have created a CANNIBAL CORPSE album that is darker and more chaotic than normal, but that is somehow probably their most accessible. …with A Skeletal Domain there is even more of a reason for people to give CANNIBAL CORPSE a listen.”

In related CANNIBAL CORPSE happenings, the band will unleash their first-ever official authorized biography. Written by Joel McIver, author of Justice For All: The Truth About Metallica and biographies on Black Sabbath, Slayer, Slipknot, and Queens Of The Stone Age, Bible Of Butchery – Cannibal Corpse: The Official Biography will contain over 150 pages loaded with photos from the band’s collection, available everywhere later this month.

A Skeletal Domain will be released in North America on September 16th, 2014 via Metal Blade records. Point your browser to metalblade.com/cannibalcorpse where you’ll witness the audio menace of second track, “Sadistic Embodiment” as well as a host of preorder bundles.

HIDEOUS DIVINITY: Italian Death Legion Get “Sinister And Demented” At Decibel Magazine; Cobra Verde Preorders Available

Friday, September 5th, 2014

Italian death metal horde, HIDEOUS DIVINITY, who feature within their ranks former members of Hour Of Penance and Ghouls, is preparing to unleash Cobra Verde, their second full-length via Unique Leader next month.

Featuring nine hymns of hate and contempt, Cobra Verde was recorded at 16th Cellar Studios (Hour Of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Trifixion, Vomit The Soul et al), boasts a guest vocal appearances by Nile’s Dallas Toler-Wade, a crushing cover of Ripping Corpse’s “The Last And Only Son” and is a true must-have for devout followers of obscure and intense death metal a la Nile, Immolation with the lysergic influences of Ulcerate.

In celebration of its imminent rule, Decibel Magazine, who applauds HIDEOUS DIVINITY’s “uber-brutal, churning platter of tech-y death metal,” offers up the fittingly titled fifth cut “Sinister And Demented,” for your Friday listening pleasures at THIS LOCATION.

Cobra Verde Track Listing:
1. In My Land I Was A Snake
2. The Somber Empire
3. Cobra Verde
4. Salt In The Martyr’s Tear
5. Sinister And Demented
6. Desolation Within
7. The Alonest Of The Alone (featuring Nile’s Dallas Toler-Wade)
8. Adijnakou
9. The Last And Only Son (Ripping Corpse cover)

Born between Italy and Norway in late 2006 as a side project of Hour Of Penance founder Enrico Schettino, HIDEOUS DIVINITY immediately earned underground accolades thanks to their Sinful Star Necrolatry two-track demo, an intriguing mesh of European and American extremities released at the end of 2007. It wasn’t until 2010 that the band, with their first stable lineup, would perform live with longstanding comrades, Insision. In the interim, new songs were composed with their European death/black influences giving way to a more mindful, complex yet straight-in-your-face death metal assault in the vein Nile, Immolation and Hate: the embryo of their first full-length release. Following another successful appearance in Scandinavia at the end of April 2012, this time for the prestigious Inferno Festival in Oslo, Norway, a three-album deal with Unique Leader Records was forged. In late July 2011 the band entered 16th Cellar to record their Obeisance Rising debut. The lyrical concept is based on John Carpenter’s immortal masterstroke They Live, a dramatically relevant testimony of a dark era that never ended.

“In this place, the dead are more alive than the living”.
A new era has come for HIDEOUS DIVINITY. Join the slavery.

Cobra Verde will be released in the US on October 28th, 2014, the UK on October 27th and the rest of Europe on October 31st. Preorder your copy at THIS LOCATION.

LO-PAN: Ohio Volume Dealers Premiere “Vox” At The Obelisk; American Trek With Black Cobra Continues

Thursday, September 4th, 2014

While Ohio volume dealers, LO-PAN, traverse the US alongside amplification duo, Black Cobra, today The Obelisk streams “Vox” from the band’s forthcoming Colossus full-length.

Named for the Colossus of Rhodes — a ninety-six-foot statue of the Greek titan-god of the sun, Helios, constructed in 280 BC to mark a failed siege and the indomitable nature of the Greek city of Rhodes itself — LO-PAN’s fourth full-length was produced and engineered by Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Rosetta, East Of The Wall et al) at his own Translator Audio Studio in Brooklyn and boasts ten crushingly soulful psalms that reveal just how much they’ve moved beyond their influences to arrive at their own sound – a style built on aggression without caricature, fuzz without cliché, melody without redundancy and their meanest groove to date.

Elaborates The Obelisk, “…where their last full-length, 2011′s Salvador, was a pinnacle for their songwriting’s blend of fluid groove, soulful vocals and memorable tracks, Colossus reaps the reward of all their touring in pushing LO-PAN‘s methods even further. So it’s a meaner, more precise LO-PAN this time around — the band is still comprised of vocalist Jeff Martin, guitarist Brian Fristoe, bassist Scott Thompson and drummer Jesse Bartz – but they’re also branching out in terms of what their songs do. That will probably make no sense until you listen to ‘Vox.’ LO-PAN have done big songs before, but ‘Vox’ gives a spacious feeling in Martin’s echoing voice that’s genuinely new for them — not to mention a guest spot near the end from Black Black Black‘s Jason Alexander Byers (also ex-Disengage) — and they blend it well with Fristoe‘s smooth-running riffs, Thompson‘s viscous but always moving basslines and the ever-raucous stomp from Bartz. In its hook, and in its subtle — and not so subtle — rhythmic shifts, ‘Vox’ emphasizes a lot of the progression in LO-PAN‘s approach, and less surprisingly, kicks a good deal of ass along the way.”

Adds the band. “‘Vox’ is about pessimism. No matter how well things are going it’s easy fall into the vortex of negative thoughts.”

Stay smiling and check out “Vox,” now playing at The Obelisk at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, sample “Regulus” still streaming at Noisey at THIS LOCATION.

As a precursor to the release of Colossus, LO-PAN is currently shaking stages across America with Black Cobra. Already a week in, the journey will zigzag its way through nearly three dozen cities, with additional LO-PAN headlining shows added to the jaunt. See confirmed dates below.

Colossus is a great name for a doom record. In one breath it handily evokes images of majesty, grandeur, and past glories… It hints at hard-won battles and blood seeping into foreign sands, of rough-hewn idols and monoliths crumbling into the foaming sea. It paints a pretty goddamn inspiring picture. That being said, on a less romantic level, Colossus also slots neatly into doom’s obsession with really big… things. Ours is a world populated by behemoths and mastodons, dying giants, sea lords, and elder gods, whose exploits and flights of fancy are riffed sweatily into existence by big burly dudes encircled by halos of amplifier tubes. It’s larger than life, and if it’s done right, it’s way too much for your shitty foam earplugs to handle. It’s awesome.” — Noisey

INTERNAL BLEEDING: Lyric Video From Fifth Full-Length By NYC Slam Instigators Now Playing At Skulls ‘N’ Bones

Thursday, September 4th, 2014

As Imperium, the first new album in more than a decade from institutional New York City-based death metal outfit, INTERNAL BLEEDING, is being prepared to see its official unveiling late this month, a lyric video from the release is now viewable via Skulls ‘N’ Bones.

The third of nine horrendously destructive hymns harnessed by INTERNAL BLEEDING under direction of Joe Cincotta at Full Force Studio in NYC (Suffocation, Dehumanized, Mortal Decay) and set to see release as Imperium, “The Pageantry Of Savagery” is an aptly destructive example of what the front-runners of the “slam movement” have conceived and delivered; an inexorable, enraged and yet focused album that yields no mercy. Reports IB vocalist Keith Devito on the song’s basis, “‘The Pageantry Of Savagery’ is about a child who grows up with little or no parental nurturing and what results from this lack of human contact. His only sources of love and perception of reality are completely artificial: television, computer games, the perceived social pressures of school, etc. That’s where the title comes from, because what he sees is a parade (or pageantry) of savagery. Consequently, he is alone and isolated from humanity. The thoughts that stream through his head as he develops into adulthood are violent, anti-social and downright ominous. He eventually turns these thoughts into action and embarks on a violent quest for his fifteen minutes of fame. Most of the lyrics in the song reflect both his thoughts and his actions. In short, ‘Pageantry Of Savagery’ is about the mental development of a sociopath.”

Metal web community, Skulls ‘N’ Bones, is now hosting a brand new lyric video for “Pageantry Of Savagery,’ ahead of Imperium’s September 30th release date at THIS LOCATION.

Coinciding with the release of Imperium, the band will level stages across North America as part of this year’s crushing Carnival Of Death tour. Set to commence on October 3rd, 2014 in New York City, the tour will leave nearly two-dozen cities in ruin, coming to a close on November 3rd, 2014, in Montreal, with Suffocation, Kataklysm, Jungle Rot and Pyrexia on the bill in addition to INTERNAL BLEEDING.

Preorders for Imperium including digital, CD, LP and merch packages are currently available HERE.
