DIABOLICUM: Third Album From Swedish Black/Industrial Act Streaming At Cvlt Nation; Ia Pazuzu (The Abyss Of The Shadows) Out Next Week Via Code666

Tuesday, June 30th, 2015

Italy’s Code666 is now just days from officially releasing Ia Pazuzu (The Abyss Of The Shadows), the third full-length album from Swedish industrial black metal architects, DIABOLICUM, and another phase of the shock campaign surrounding its release comes to fruition today as Cvlt Nation unleashes an early stream of the entire opus.

Standing among the prime instigators of the industrial black metal scene, DIABOLICUM boasts a storied lineage of personnel/directional shifts, and an impressive discography with prior albums on Napalm Records and Code666 in addition to split releases with Watain and Angst. Now featuring the ill-omened vocal tidings of Shining’s Niklas Kvarforth, the band’s third album, Ia Pazuzu (The Abyss Of The Shadows), ends a fourteen-year hiatus in releases from this outfit. With nine traumatic hymns of disease, distress and psychological torment, the new record documents a torrent of plagues mirroring the world in which we dwell, including guest contributions from Malfeitor Fabban (Aborym) and Vargher (Naglfar, Bewitched, Ancient Wisdom), and artwork by Maxime Taccardi. Ia Pazuzu (The Abyss Of The Shadows) is unapologetic, anguished and unspeakably devouring.

The scourge of DIABOLICUM’s dread-inducing Ia Pazuzu (The Abyss Of The Shadows) is thriving at Cvlt Nation now at THIS LOCATION.

Metal Underground crowns the release, “Precision destruction delivered straight to your ear drums… This is some truly relentless industrial black metal fourteen years in the making,” while The Metal Observer notes, “DIABOLICUM specializes in heavily industrial-laced black metal that has a tangible sense of misanthropy dripping from every lyric and icy riff. It’s dark and belligerent as black metal should be and, like… Mysticum, they clearly know how to mesh metal and industrial in a way that preserves and highlights the best elements of both (sub)genres,” furthering, “I couldn’t help but marvel at the almost arrogantly confident manner in which they kick down the door on barb-wired monsters like ‘Void Of Astaroth’ and ‘Genocide Bliss,’ while also not forgetting that the thrill is as much in the chase as it is in the kill by getting all pensive and dirge-y on us with ‘Silent Spring’ and ‘One Man’s War.’” Dead Rhetoric concurs, “The band’s third full-length… wrangles the mechanical, militaristic tone of war metal, and merges it with the diabolic fury of primitive black metal. In so many words, they’re like a less outlandish Aboyrm or Tidfall, or for even modern reference, Kommandant.” Terrarelicta issues, “The music is pretty much my definition of a perfect black metal track, with its tremolo picking, fast paced guitars and ultra-fast blast beats… dark and atmospheric, it has a slight Shining vibe at some parts, mainly because of Kvarforth’s vocals,” while Echoes And Dust hails, “The vocalist on this band sounds absolutely primed for war. The songwriting is stellar…” Adds No Clean Singing eloquently of first single, “Salvation Through Vengeance,” “The song erupts like a black metal cyclone dropping without warning from storm clouds overhead. A vocal sample then provides a bridge to a more industrialized, keyboard-driven segment, which is then overtaken by that wild, transfixing guitar solo as the song ramps up again into a whirlwind of knives and blood. It’s a terrorizing adrenaline trigger that leaves us salivating for the rest of the album.”

DIABOLICUM’s Ia Pazuzu (The Abyss Of The Shadows) will be available via Italy’s Code666 in special digipack CD format as well as a limited edition, double gatefold LP and deluxe limited leather box on July 7th, 2015 via Code666. Preorders are currently available at THIS LOCATION.

WINDFAERER: Atmospheric Folkloric Black Metal Collective To Release Tenebrosum Full-Length This Fall; New Track Streaming At No Clean Singing

Tuesday, June 30th, 2015

New Jersey’s own WINDFAERER forges a soundscape that entwines folkloric elegance with black metal ferocity. A portmanteau meaning, “one who travels with the wind,” like a vessel lost at sea, the name WINDFAERER sets a melancholic atmosphere of longing for a return to a homeland, yet with hopeful eyes set toward the unknown. It is the animus of guitarist and frontman, M. Gonçalves as an epic black metal paean to his ancestral homeland of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal).

In 2009, WINDFAERER debuted their well-received demo, Glorybound. According to Nocturnal Cult, “The carefree and laid-back rural countryside of hilly and forested European landscapes finds new life and breathes once again within the structure of WINDFAERER’s songs.” The demo set the pathway for their first full length, Tribus (2010), and hefty critically-acclaimed EP, Solar (2012), in which they artfully combined epic folk with the allure of Gothenburg-style death metal and the grit of Scandinavian black metal. In a near perfect rating, Stereokiller dubbed the record, “absolutely spectacular,” while The Metal Crypt opined, “How a band with this much talent and ability remains unsigned is a mystery to me…”

On their most recent effort, Tenebrosum, WINDFAERER casts off the edge of black metal and takes the listener on a spiritual journey of discovery, embarking into the unknown, treacherous seas. The album is named after the archaic term for the Atlantic Ocean (“Mare Tenebrosum”), meaning “sea of darkness.” “From Euskadi and to Hyperborea, leaving Finisterra behind!”

Tenebrosum finds WINDFAERER building upon their previous release, Solar. Powerful violins are immersed in a battering ram of dynamic metal riffing, painting a scene with every passage. The sounds on Tenebrosum can be used as a soundtrack to venerate Gaia or as a rousing heavy metal battle cry. Tenebrosum was recorded at Frightbox Recording throughout 2014 and mixed and mastered by Rob Torres. With Tenebrosum, WINDFAERER have truly forged “a monument to the iron within our veins.”

In celebration of its forthcoming unveiling, today No Clean Singing is offering up opening track, “Celestial Supremacy,” for public appreciation noting, “With hammering riffs, thundering drums, and a squalling lead guitar, ‘Celestial Supremacy’ immediately conjures vivid images of storm-tossed seas. The music is accented by Ben Karas’ violin performance, which is both beautiful and searing, while guitarist Michael Gonçalves’ passionate, bleeding-edge howls and shrieks enhance the music’s driving intensity. There is blood-pumping fury in the song, as well as captivating melody, as the band weave together elements of black metal and melodic death metal to produce a riveting, powerhouse piece of music that hits with the force of a gale.”

Sample “Celestial Supremacy” courtesy of No Clean Singing, at THIS LOCATION.

Tenebrosum Track Listing:
1. Celestial Supremacy
2. Finisterra
3. Tales Told In Oblivion
4. Santería
5. The Everlasting
6. Morir En El Olvido
7. The Outer Darkness

WINDFAERER will bring this sonic rituals to the stage on a short bout of east coast performances beginning tomorrow at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York. BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH: Seattle Doom Merchants To Kick Off North American Live Incursion With Neurosis Next Month; Debut Listed Among NPR Music’s 25 Favorite Albums Of 2015 (So Far)

Tuesday, June 30th, 2015

Seattle doom merchants, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH, will bring their lumbering odes to stages throughout North America next month supporting Neurosis. Slated to embark on July 31st in Lawrence, Kansas, the trek will coil its way through sixteen cities, including one headlining performance, coming to a close on August 16th in Houston, Texas. Additional support will be provided by The Body, Sumac, Iron Tongue and Pinkish Black on select dates.

Comments legendary guitarist/vocalist Tad Doyle of the trek, “Being a huge fans of what Neurosis does for so long, we are really excited that we have the honor and privilege of being support for them on this tour. It is a gift for us to be able to do this.”

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH features Doyle, formerly of Tad and Hog Molly, bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki). The trio undraped their lead-footed, self-titled debut last February via Neurot Recordings. Captured at Robert Lang Studios and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Melvins et al), Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth splices thick, jagged riffs through chilling post-punk drumming and hulking compositions that blow soulfully hot and desolately cold, sometimes within the confines of one track and serves as Doyle’s first recorded release in nearly fifteen years.

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary ruin; a slow, suffocating, spellbinding dance towards a looming apocalypse. Having already earned hails from fans and media globally, NPR Music recently listed the band’s debut among its 25 Favorite Albums Of 2015 (So Far) noting, “Seattle’s Tad Doyle has been at this heavy game coming on three decades now. With bands like Tad and Hog Molly, he could take a bummer riff and make it boil and hum in ways others just couldn’t. Years in the making, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH’s debut is a thoroughly satisfying doom metal LP that is fully awake and teeming with power.”

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH:

8/01/2015 Mill City – Minneapolis, MN w/ Neurosis, The Body

8/15/2015 House Of Blues – New Orleans, LA w/ Neurosis, Iron Tongue
8/16/2015 Warehouse Live – Houston, TX w/ Neurosis, Pinkish Black

Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth is currently available on CD or LP at THIS LOCATION.

“The Bros.’ debut lurches to life with a lumbering, grunge-influenced tune, ‘Lava’… From here, things slow down to funeral doom pace for much of the next six tracks/35 minutes. However, the doom and darkness is shaded with some interesting melodic textures and moments of lightness that come at unexpected times and add a dynamic gravity to the material.” – Decibel

“The glacially paced ‘Empires Of Dust’ evokes Monotheist-era Celtic Frost with some post-punk elements, while ‘Unnamed’ imagines a world where the Melvins play black metal… Like the most iconic albums, this one reveals hidden nuances and elements with every listen.” – Invisible Oranges

“Tad leads the charge through seven rounds of atmospheric post-sludge, the record’s 44 minutes no less concerned with ambience and mood than with gritting their teeth and bashing the listener over the head with waves of tectonic nod.” – The Obelisk

YOB: Support For Australian Tour Announced

Friday, June 26th, 2015

YOB will play their first ever show on our shores in Perth at The Rosemount on August 19. Support will come from the somber reflections of drone duo Alzabo, featuring members of Cease and Mink Mussel Creek. But first: behold the crushing waves of blackened doom quartet Dirac Sea.

At Enigma Bar in Adelaide on August 20th, support comes from the elephantine riffage of stoner doom behemoths Space Bong, who are finally ready to unleash their new album that’s been four years in the making. They’ll be joined by Crypt, boasting rock-the-fuck-out jams at breakneck speeds.

At YOB’s Melbourne show at Max Watt’s (formerly The HiFi) on Friday August 21, submit to the otherworldly barbaric majesty of one of the nation’s heaviest collectives, Whitehorse. But to begin, genuflect and show your reverence for the funereal dirge of doom-death prophets Inverloch.

In Sydney on Saturday August 22nd at Manning Bar, warm up to the searing sounds of Australia’s fastest stoner riff lords, Sumeru. Get down early for some invasive respiratory therapy from noise thrash enthusiasts Thorax.

Rounding out the tour on August 23rd at Crowbar in Brisbane, support comes from Relapse Records signees Hope Drone, who’ll be riding the waves of newly released punishing long-player, Cloak of Ash. Opening hymns will be screamed by Queensland’s resident hypno-occultists Frown.

“YOB might be one of the best bands in North America.” – The New York Times

In 2014, YOB released the best doom metal album of the year. Near universally praised, Clearing the Path to Ascend topped Rolling Stone’s list of the best metal albums and was critically lauded by everyone from Pitchfork to The New York Times. Never has doom metal been at the forefront of the public consciousness like this, and it’s easy to see why: though it’s come almost two decades into their existence, YOB have made not just the best album of their career – they’ve made what will come to be regarded as one of the defining records in the pantheon of doom metal.

“Clearing The Path To Ascend is magnificently loud and rapturously strident, but, at its heart, it quietly provides a sense of support for our innermost being; succor for our very souls.” – Steel for Brains

Which is not to say any of this came easy. Few bands hit their creative stride after seven records and almost twenty years, and YOB’s recording career has led them to stints with Metal Blade and Profound Lore before settling at their current home with spiritual siblings Neurosis at their label Neurot Recordings. The Neurosis comparison is obvious, but for every moment of earth-shaking post-metal, there are flourishes of old-school, soul-crushing sorrow that hark back to Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus; for every Earth-like meditation, there’s a measured catharsis of energy that recalls the explosive sludge of Melvins.

“Psychedelic rock, stoner rock, stoner metal, blues metal, ambient: all reside comfortably in YOB’s wheelhouse, coalescing and collapsing on a path that stretches as far as the listener’s imagination.” – Pitchfork

What makes Clearing The Path To Ascend such a landmark record is its stellar two-track second half. While the album’s opening act bathes in layers of funereal dirge and existential dread, its penultimate and closing tracks mark one of the genre’s finest half-hours as the trio push through to the other side of hell. With every repetition, Mike Scheidt’s riffs grow all the more hypnotic, his pious incantations ever-more compelling. YOB have succeeded where many of their contemporaries fail, imbuing the oft-tired tropes of a monolithic genre with untold emotion and transcendent zeal. This is doom metal reborn.

“All dreams must end—but by extension, so must all nightmares. On Clearing The Path To Ascend, YOB has beautifully, brutally conjured a bit of both.” – The A.V. Club

YOB’s live show is everything you’d want from a power trio. From frenetic riffs and furious drumming to slow, crushing doom, a YOB gig is less a performance and more a communal brain-fuck. They hold their audience transfixed with brief moments of brooding, atmospheric, almost ambient respite, before pulverising them with a massive, brutal crush of noise.

VALDUR: Mammoth Lakes-Based Blackened Death Legion Wages War With “Blessings Of The Goat,” Now Streaming At No Clean Singing; Pathetic Scum To Drop Next Week

Friday, June 26th, 2015
Pathetic Scum is the forthcoming new full-length offering from the Sierra Mountains’ own blackened death legion, VALDUR. Captured entirely at the band’s clandestine Bloody Mountain Bunker, mixed by drummer Matthew and mastered by Dan at Morbid Mastering, VALDUR offers up seven punishing odes of audio abhorrence as only VALDUR can conjure. A true testament of a diseased society gone sour, Pathetic Scum picks up where the repugnant sounds of 2013’s critically-adored At War With left off. Featuring the addition of new guitarist, Vuke, the record seethes with a blizzardy onslaught of warring riffs, bestial blasts, wrath-fueled vocal offensives and an overwhelming atmosphere of pandemonium, trepidation and all-encompassing ruthlessness.

The record was recently listed at #5 on OC Weekly’s Ten Best Metal Albums Of Summer 2015 with the publication noting, “VALDUR produces a sonic wall of sheer terror on tracks such as ‘Tank Torture.’ The vocal performance… evokes those scenes in horror movies where a possessed protagonist is swarmed by all of the voices in their head simultaneously. Drummer Matthew invokes a sense of fear with nonstop pounding and caustic cymbal crashes on tracks such as ‘Blessings Of The Goat.’ The album art is a stark world of blacks and greys, but the venom spewed forth by the band musically and lyrically is one hundred percent black,” while No Clean Singing concurs, “The rhythm section are a couple of merciless bone-grinders, and the cavernous vocals are the utterances of a lurching horror. And the needling riffs are not only pestilential, they’re also catchy.” Adds The Midlands Rocks, “Pestilent, putrescent and pummeling, beauty takes on a different meaning on this album. Tempos are dragged, forced, fucked; riffs are ripped, ravaged, rabid; and vocals are vehement, vile and venomous (and alliteration is milked for all it’s worth). These tracks are not crafted. They’re bashed in and out of shape until they bleed the wrong color. Ruthless, uncompromising, and vile beyond compare, VALDUR are the embodiment of exquisite malice. Bastards. And oh me, oh my, oh malignant mother of misery, they’ve been making music since 2003. That means there’s more of this shit to feast upon.”

As a precursor to its official unveiling next week, today No Clean Singing is offering up third cut, “Blessings Of The Goat,” for communal consumption further enthusing, “The drums roll like an avalanche, the riffs vibrate with poisonous radioactivity, the roaring/howling vocals exude an aura of ravenous hunger and fury. But as overpoweringly ominous as the song’s atmosphere is, it also strikes with the impact and energy of a lightning bolt (or a hundred of them), and its doom-shrouded central melody is capable of saturating the mind and staying there. If the four horsemen of the apocalypse need a soundtrack as they ride us into the dust, they don’t have to look further than ‘Blessings Of The Goat.’”

Get goaty with “Blessings Of The Goat” now playing at THIS LOCATION.

Featuring past and current members of Weverin, Endless Blizzard and Plutocracy, VALDUR was forged at the turn of the century in a small mountain town located in the pulsating heart of the Sierra Mountains where the Death Valley desert lands meet the ascending Mt. Whitney and where the unholy collective dwells without interference of fashionable scenes or rulebooks.

Pathetic Scum will be officially unveiled digitally and in digipak format via the band’s own Bloody Mountain Records on June 30th, 2015.

IMMORTAL BIRD: Chicago-Based Blackened Death Grind Misfits Unleash First Helping Of Empress/Abscess Full-Length Via Decibel Magazine; Track Features Guest Spot By Weekend Nachos’ John Hoffman

Thursday, June 25th, 2015

Empress/Abscess is the impending new full-length from Chicago-based blackened death grind misfits IMMORTAL BIRD. Captured by Pete Grossmann (Weekend Nachos, Harms Way, Dead In The Dirt) at Bricktop Recording in Chicago, Illinois and mixed and mastered by Colin Marston (Gorguts, Krallice, Nader Sadek, Atheist, Origin etc.) at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves in Queens, New York Empress/Abscess finds former drummer/vocalist, Rae Amitay, swapping in her drum stool for a full-time position at the mic with longtime live drummer, Garry Naples (Novembers Doom) taking her place at the kit. The result is a harrowing sound excursion through the bowels of human existence. Indeed, picking up where 2013’s Akrasia EP left off, Empress/Abscess delves once again into a cesspool of misery, fury, and anguish.

In an advance investigation of the record, the UK’s Intravenous Magazine elaborates, “IMMORTAL BIRD peddle a ferocious blend of black metal, thrash metal, death metal and crusty grindcore that can only really be summed up with the word… extreme. Scathing guitars, blistering blast beats and demonic vocals power through …Empress/Abscess, leaving scorched ears and speakers in their wake. With nods to the likes of elements of early Satyricon, Nile, Suffocation, and Venom within their technically proficient execution, songs such as the opener ‘Neoplastic,’ as well as ‘Saprophyte,’ and ‘The Sycophant’ exude a relentless brutality that still keeps things nice and tight with some great memorable riffs thrown into the mix.” The publication furthers, “The album is brilliantly mixed and the production reflects the technical prowess at work on the recordings. It is a strong, self-assured, tight, but most of all wonderfully fresh and modern sounding album.”

In anticipation of its official unveiling next month, today Decibel Magazine offers up a taste of opening hymn, “Neoplastic,” featuring a guest appearance by John Hoffman of Weekend Nachos. Relays Amitay: “‘Neoplastic was one of the first songs we wrote after the Akrasia EP was finished, and it went through several different live incarnations before we arrived at the version we recorded. I never envisioned having a guest vocalist when we were writing the album, but John has such an aggressive, inimitable voice and killer presence that I just had to ask! I think it adds something very cool to the track and I’m stoked he was a part of it.”

Feel the quake of “Neoplastic,” now playing at Decibel at THIS LOCATION.

In related IMMORTAL BIRD missives, the band will  make appearances at Shadow Woods Metal Fest (Midnight, Occulation, Iron Man etc.), Southwest Terror Fest (Sleep, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, Dropdead, Bongripper etc.) and Death To False Metal (Whiplash, Krieg, Secrets Of The Sky, Valkyrie, Imperial Triumphant, Nightbitch, Secret Cutter etc.) with future onstage demolitions in their plotting stages.

Forged by drummer/vocalist/lyricist Rae Amitay, IMMORTAL BIRD was brought to fruition by cowriter and guitarist Evan Berry and bassist John Picillo. Their critically-adored debut EP, which Decibel crowned, “dark and twisting,” and Ghost Cult dubbed, “distinctly disturbing and beautifully harsh,” was released in December of 2013. Following several tours that took the band across the United States and into Canada, IMMORTAL BIRD entered the studio to record their debut full-length, Empress/Abscess.

Empress/Abscess will be released on July 14th, 2015 as a collaborative effort, with Broken Limbs Recordings taking charge with vinyl and cassettes, while IMMORTAL BIRD will be self-releasing the CD/digital version under the moniker Manatee Rampage Recordings.

SKINLESS: New York’s Favorite Death Metal Marauders Reveal New Album Art Video At No Clean Singing; Only The Ruthless Remain Out Now

Thursday, June 25th, 2015

In celebration of the official release of their long-anticipated Only The Ruthless Remain full-length, which dropped via Relapse Records earlier this month to the riotous applause of metallers globally, today New York’s favorite death metal marauders, SKINLESS,untether the fiery new album art video for closing number, “Barbaric Proclivity.”

Bedecked in the sadistic grooves and flawless musicianship for which the band has become notorious and adorned in the harrowing cover illustration of Ken Sarafin, Only The Ruthless Remain features SKINLESS‘ now-classic, late ’90s lineup of founding guitarist Noah Carpenter, vocalist Sherwood Webber, bassist Joe Keyser and drummer Bob Beaulac, with the addition of second guitarist, Dave Matthews, and marks the band’s first proper full-length offering in nearly a decade.

Reaping critical hails from media outlets both stateside and abroad, MetalSucks calls the outting, “a rewarding record that scratches the most persistent of death metal itches,” and a, “lean, zero-flaws death metal dynamo.” Apoch’s Metal Review crowns Only The Ruthless Remain, one of the finest albums in SKINLESS’ repertoire,” further elaborating, “This isn’t just an album SKINLESS fans will lovingly embrace, but a creation that stands as one of the top offerings of 2015 within the death metal genre, proving the time away from the studio, as well as one another, has only strengthened them as a unit,” while Exclaim boasts, “With every crushing rhythm and breakneck riff, it’s as if SKINLESS never left, delivering everything you’d expect from the band… Only the Ruthless Remain is an exceptional, solid return from the very missed masters of death metal.” Heathen Harvest champions a record that’s, “well-written, meaty,” and, “just so fucking heavy.” In Your Speakers issues,The seven tracks of Only The Ruthless Remain are each dynamic enough in themselves to form a comprehensive listening experience, yet maintain the traditional SKINLESS appeal; it’s really the whole package. SKINLESS is a band that can survive both a break-up and more than twenty years in death metal, and if you need a reminder why that is, Ruthless has more than enough to persuade you.” Adds Wonderbox Metal, “Memorable, impressive songs are the meaty main course in this sumptuous feast of rotten flesh. SKINLESS are heavy and they’ve always been exceptionally heavy. Death Metal by its very nature is a heavy form of music, but there’s heavy and then there’s HEAVY. SKINLESS own the latter.”

Following a pre-release stream of “Barbaric Proclivity,” via MetalSucks who gushed, “This track is straight-up bloodthirsty… It will grab you by your waist and squeeze your innards out of your mouth like so much toothpaste,” No Clean Singing spews forth its accompanying art clip as created by bassist Joe Keyser, noting, “It’s such a good song, a real meat-grinding death metal machine, but one that does more than prod the reptile part of your brain with savage riffs, skull-cracking drumbeats, horrific gutturals, and putrescent shrieks. It also couples those gruesome, grinding segments to irresistibly headband-inducing passages that alternately charge like a freight train and slam like massive, methodical hammer blows right on top of your fragile skull. But that’s still not all! Along with a lot of near-atonal riff murder, it also includes an atmospheric melodic interlude that heightens the song’s aura of morbid oppressiveness.”

Check it out at THIS LOCATION.

You can also sample the band’s video for namesake track, “Skinless,” featuring a visual smorgasbord of lethal injections, human flaying and general group-inflicted suffering, playing at THIS LOCATION or “Serpenticide,” streaming at SoundCloud HERE and YouTube HERE.

Only The Ruthless Remain was captured by Tom Case at Edie Road Studio and Doomsday Bunker Studio, both in upstate New York, with vocals tracked by Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Primitive Man etc.) at Flatline Audio in Denver, Colorado, and the entire slab of audio violence mastered by Brad Boatright (Obituary, Nails, Integrity etc.) at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon.

Only The Ruthless Remain is currently available on CD, LP and digitally via Relapse Records. Limited Relapse 25 Year Anniversary editions of the CD and LP are also be available. For order bundles, visit THIS LOCATION. Desirers of the digitals, go HERE.

BAT: Speed Metal Miscreants Added To Mammoth Gwar B-Q Lineup; Additional Live Abrasions Confirmed + New Living Fast Episode Available

Wednesday, June 24th, 2015

BAT, the unholy supergroup featuring Municipal Waste guitarist Ryan Waste on bass/vocals, former DRI drummer Felix Griffin and Volture guitarist Nick Poulos, is very pleased to announce their recent addition to this year’s Gwar B-Q in Richmond, Virginia alongside the likes of The Descendents, Cro-Mags, Ghoul, Ringworm, Child Bite and more! The band’s Gwar B-Q appearance follows a headlining performance in Raleigh and serves as a precursor to a rare run of live abrasions through Richmond, Cleveland, Chicago and Pittsburgh in September.

Comments Waste of the oncoming onstage demolitions, “After finishing up our debut full length album on Hells Headbangers this summer, we in BAT are gearing up for a short run around some rad US festivals. The first being the Gwar B-Q in our hometown of Richmond, which is always wet and wild. Come September, we hit the road again to play in Cleveland at the Hell’s Headbash. We’re thrilled to play with our pals in High Spirits and Midnight on the opening night. Beforehand, we’re cramming in another hometown gig and hitting Chicago and Pittsburgh to round out the Labor Day weekend. Come rage with us and always beware of the BAT!”

BAT:
8/14/2015 Southland Ballroom – Raleigh, NC
8/15/2015 Gwar B-Q @ Hadad’s Lake – Richmond, VA
9/03/2015 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA
9/04/2015 Hell’s Headbash (Agora) – Cleveland, OH
9/05/2015 El Rey Ballroom – Chicago, IL
9/06/2015 Smiling Moose – Pittsburgh, PA

The Virginia/Texas metal punk marauders in BAT released their Primitive Age EP last year on cassette via Tankcrimes and on 12” vinyl via Hells Headbangers. Channeling the spirits of Venom, Hellhammer, Motörhead and Discharge, the EP features five filthy numbers of confrontational Kill ‘Em All angst and enough vocal venom to level a nation. Said Last Rites of the offering, “This nasty little beast is a crust-a-licious demo-nic hybrid of ugly gutter thrash with a vicious punk spirit and a dose of injected blackness. Jump back thirty years to an uncomfortable-yet-awesome three-way between Cronos, Lemmy, and Tom Warrior (or, whatever, Satanic Slaughter) — then BOOM, BAT! A close 21st-century equivalent would be Midnight, only with less sleazy Satanic debauchery and more of an all-encompassing generalized rebelliousness.”

The Primitive Age EP is available digitally at the official BAT BandCamp page HERE and on cassette via Tankcrimes HERE (where you’ll also find additional merch). You can also nab a copy of BAT’s recently issued “Cruel Discipline” seven-inch out on Hells Headbangers HERE as well as the 12″ version of Primitive Age.

In related news, Living Fast, the heavy metal talk show created by Waste continues to reap views from the headbanging public. The first episode featured John Gallagher of Raven while the second episode, divided into two parts, takes place during the Caulture Shock Tour with Cauldron and Waste’s heavy metal band, Volture where Waste visits with Michael Denner (Mercyful Fate) at Beat Bop Records, his second-hand vinyl shop located in the heart of Copenhagen. Recently unleashed, Canadian edition third episode features Dave Carlo and Mike Campagnolo of Razor and number one Anvil fan, Colin “Maddog” Brown. Get viewing at THIS LOCATION.

JASON W. WALTON: Agalloch Bassist/Self Spiller Architect Unleashes Second Track From Solo Seven-Inch Via Decibel; Mara Out NOW On Red Orchard Records

Monday, June 22nd, 2015

Mara is the eclectic solo seven-inch from Agalloch bassist/Self Spiller master draftsman, JASON W. WALTON. Composed via field recordings from various places he would visit, Walton captured the din of humanity on the downtown Portland streets, the rush of ocean waves in Southern California, and the mysteriously comforting monologues emanating from an AM radio. During mid-2014, WALTON manipulated and processed these sounds into disturbingly haunting pieces which would eventually become the basis for the lingering sounds of Mara.

WALTON thematically composed these songs around his struggle with sleep paralysis – a phenomenon in which a person, either falling asleep or awakening, temporarily experiences an inability to move, speak, and react. Through self-imposed sleep deprivation, Walton recounted his episodes of paralysis within the two tracks contained in Mara. During his various occurrences, WALTON sometimes feels like he has some kind of spiritual connection or “visit” from lost loved ones. Shortly after first track, “Alp,” was completed, WALTON lost his stepfather unexpectedly. A few months later, shortly after track two, “Yakshi,” was finished, WALTON’s dear friend and former Metal Maniacs editor, Katherine Ludwig, passed away. Although these two songs are not about these people, they are wholeheartedly dedicated to them making this an intensely personal work.

Following Cvlt Nation’s recent premiere of “Alp,” today Decibel Magazine offers up “Yakshi” for communal discovery with Walton noting, “‘Yakshi’ is the second and final track of Mara and deals with the terror and helplessness one experiences when in the throes of sleep paralysis. In this state

your mind is awake yet your body is paralyzed. Your cries of desperation travel no further than your own head and are obscured by the buzzing waves of darkness. ‘Yakishi’ encapsulates this experience and gives me surges of anxiety each time I listen.”

Featuring guest vocals by Tanner Anderson (Obsequiae, Celestiial), experience “Yakshi” at THIS LOCATION.

And you can still sample the harrowing sounds of “Alp,” at THIS LOCATION.

Mara was captured at Earth In Sound Studios Portland, Oregon with Anderson’s guest vocals on “Yakshi” performed and recorded at HammerHeart Brewing Company Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Mastered by James Plotkin (OLD, Scorn, Khanate, Khlyst) with design and layout by Agalloch’s John Haughm, Mara is available NOW via Red Orchard Records on limited edition (300) seven-inch black vinyl housed in a deluxe black arigato sleeve featuring silver debossed artwork.
