DEMON LUNG: Nevada Doom Bringers Unleash “Mark Of Jubilee” Via Decibel Magazine; A Dracula To See Release Next Month

Tuesday, May 26th, 2015

Las Vegas-based doom bringers, DEMON LUNG, will unleash the forlorn fruits of their A Dracula full-length next month via Candlelight Records. Captured by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Taurus, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth etc.), the record boasts eight dark, devious hymns centered loosely on Juan López Moctezuma’s 1977 horror film, Alucardain which two teenage orphan girls living in a Catholic convent unleash a demonic force and ultimately become possessed by Satan.

Alucarda is a more relatable story for me than our last album’s [The Hundredth Name] subject matter,” vocalist Shanda Fredrick issues, “which made writing a lot more fun this time around. The heroine in this story is the daughter of Satan, who happens to fall in love with the purest of souls in the convent she resides. She coaxes this soul over to the dark, with only intentions of love but in doing so she dooms her to death by the hands of the nuns. The anger consumes her and she uses her dark powers to resurrect her love and together they kill the convent and then the world.”

As a precursor to its official unveiling, today Decibel Magazine offers up sixth movement,Mark Of Jubilee” for public consumption at THIS LOCATION.

A Dracula comes nearly two years to the date from the successful release of the band’s critically-lauded, 2013-released The Hundredth Name. Media applauded the band, especially Fredrick with Decibel Magazine gushing, “She emerges like a high empress, adding real soul to the quintet’s lurch.” Ghost Cult called the debut, “a modern doom masterpiece,” Las Vegas Weekly concurred noting, “Everything about DEMON LUNG’s debut screams epic,” while New Noise Magazine gushed, “This record is mammoth. Bass riffs tuned low drag the listener into a dark, solemn swamp of evil. The atmosphere created is as important as each note plucked from Lucifer’s hairy hind quarters.” Added This Is Not A Scene accurately, “The future of doom seems to be in safe hands.”

DEMON LUNG is vocalist Shanda Fredrick, drummer Jeremy Brenton, guitarists Phil Burns and Brent Lynch and bassist Jason Lamb. A Dracula will be released via Candlelight Records on June 16th, 2015 with tour dates to be be announced shortly. In the meantime, preorders are available at THIS LOCATION. CONNOISSEUR: West Coast Stoner Violence Miscreants Unleash “Pot Hole” Video Clip; Hide Your Nugs As The Band Smokes Out A Town Near You

Thursday, May 21st, 2015

On the eve of their massive …And Stoner Justice For All Summer Tour, today CONNOISSEUR, in cooperation with the dealers at No Clean Singing, offer up the hilarious new video for “Pot Hole.” The stoney psalm comes by way of the band’s Stoner Justice full-length, set to drop next month via Tankcrimes Records.

Issues No Clean Singing, “If you’re not familiar with CONNOISSEUR and you’re expecting some paint-by-numbers stoner metal, you’ll have to re-orient your thinking, with or without some weedy assistance. ‘Pot Hole’ is a seething, searing, thick-riffed outburst of rage, with pissed-off vocal vitriol that will leave your ear drums in tatters. Yeah, CONNOISSEUR do not adjust to an empty pot hole by chanting tranquilizing mantras. The video, by the way, is funny as shit.”

Don’t believe the hype? Point your glassy peepers on over to THIS LOCATION and see for yourself.

And if you missed it, sample THC-infused cranium-crusher, “New Amsterdam,” still streaming via Cvlt Nation at THIS LOCATION as well as their lyric video for “Orc Summer,” now playing at Revolver at THIS LOCATON.

CONNOISSEUR will bring their weedian hymns to stages throughout the US on a mammoth run of live incursions slated to kick off tomorrow in Oakland. The trek will smoke out over four dozen metropolises through July 11th. Hide your nugs!

Likening themselves to Earth Crisis if they “smoked weed and listened to Spazz,” the Smokeland, California-based trio, CONNOISSEUR, deafens the weak with an upbeat/d-beat barrage of West Bay powerviolence packed with resin-coated sludgedowns and chronically brutal, comically cheeba-charged vocal onslaughts that consume the listener in a violently stoned, inescapable haze. Initially released in EP form last year and captured by Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios, Oakland (Annihilation Time, Iron Lung, Vhöl, Brainoil), Stoner Justice redux is remastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering (Abscess, Toxic Holocaust, Voetsek etc.) and has been expanded to fourteen blunted ragers, including a live set professionally recorded at the Tankcrimes Takeover on February 13th, 2015 (mixed and mastered by the same team) and includes a mind-bending cover art collaboration by Skinner (Mastodon) and Hal Rotter (Atriarch, Cough, Eyehategod, Skeletonwitch etc.). Those who puff to the gutter-crusted resonance of Plutocracy, Spazz, Crossed Out, Dystopia, and Earth Crisis, listen up.

Stoner Justice will see release on CD, LP (on rad splatter vinyl) and digitally via Tankcrimes on June 9th, 2015. For preorder bundles scroll on over to THIS LOCATION.

Within these 31 minutes of violent music, you get fourteen tracks that hit you hard in the chest. So breathe in deep bitch, cough heavily and let CONNOISSEUR take over your body. It’s the gateway drug to more great metal. A step up from last year’s EP, delivering the same punches as last year but adding much more quality substance to give us a quality high that only true musicians can achieve. Blaze this over and over, let me know how you feel in the morning.” – HeadbangorGTFO

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH: Seattle’s Doomiest To Kick Off Live Incursion Tomorrow; Tour Trailer Posted

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH – the Seattle doom brigade featuring iconic guitarist/vocalist Tad Doyle, formerly of Tad and Hog Molly, veteran bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki) — will level the stages of nine cities with their apocalyptic odes on a long-anticipated bout of West Coast rituals. Slated to commence tomorrow, May 21st, on their home turf of Seattle, the trio will make their way through Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Denver and Salt Lake City with the run drawing to a close in Boise.

Issues Doyle of the trek, “It’s been far too long. The wait is over. Time for us to get out on the road, log some miles in the van and visit the cities and people we love to play our shit for in support of our debut self-titled record on Neurot Recordings.”

View the tour trailer at THIS LOCATION.

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH:
5/21/2015 Chop Suey – Seattle, WA w/ Bali Girls [tickets]
5/22/2015 Dante’s – Portland, OR w/ Atriarch, Rabbits [tickets]
5/23/2015 Starlight Lounge – Sacramento, CA [tickets]
5/24/2015 Parkside – San Francisco, CA [tickets]
5/25/2015 Echoplex – Los Angeles, CA [tickets]
5/27/2015 Sister – Albuquerque, NM [tickets]
5/28/2015 Hi-Dive – Denver, CO [tickets]
5/29/2015 Metro Bar – Salt Lake City, UT [tickets]
5/30/2015 Neurolux – Boise, ID [tickets]

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH will be touring in support of their lead-footed, self-titled debut, unleashed in February via Neurot Recordings. Captured at Robert Lang Studios and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Melvins et al), Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth serves as Doyle’s first recorded release in nearly fifteen years. Splicing thick, jagged riffs through chilling post-punk drumming and hulking compositions that blow soulfully hot and desolately cold, sometimes within the confines of one track, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary ruin; a slow, suffocating, spellbinding dance towards a looming apocalypse.

“The glacially paced ‘Empires Of Dust’ evokes Monotheist-era Celtic Frost with some post-punk elements, while ‘Unnamed’ imagines a world where the Melvins play black metal… Like the most iconic albums, this one reveals hidden nuances and elements with every listen.” – Invisible Oranges

“The Bros.’ debut lurches to life with a lumbering, grunge-influenced tune, ‘Lava’… From here, things slow down to funeral doom pace for much of the next six tracks/35 minutes. However, the doom and darkness is shaded with some interesting melodic textures and moments of lightness that come at unexpected times and add a dynamic gravity to the material.” – Decibel

“Doyle’s ears must have absorbed the past decade of heavy where the quiet-to-ear-splitting-loud dynamic dominated, but like his Pacific Northwest brothers in YOB, there is purpose in its movement.” – NPR

Tad leads the charge through seven rounds of atmospheric post-sludge, the record’s 44 minutes no less concerned with ambience and mood than with gritting their teeth and bashing the listener over the head with waves of tectonic nod.” – The Obelisk

“After 15 years of relative silence, it’s good to have Tad Doyle back and in such fine form. God’s balls, This is heavy shit.” – MusicOMH

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH further cements Tad’s legacy in this town, while allowing us to take the journey along with him.” – The Seattle Passive Aggressive

Sample BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH’s “Unnamed,” still streaming at NPR at THIS LOCATION, “La Mano Poderosa” heavying up the airwaves of Classic Rock at THIS LOCATION and “Lava,” still crushing Decibel HERE.

Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth is currently available on CD or LP at THIS LOCATION.

WRVTH: Eclectic Technical Death Architects Reveal New Lyric Video At Skulls ‘N’ Bones; Self-Titled Full-Length To See Release Next Month

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015

As California technical death metal architects, WRVTH, (formerly Wrath Of Vesuvius), prepare for the release their self-titled, third full-length this June, today Skulls ‘N’ Bones offers up the brand new video for tenth track, “Into Bloom.”

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren (Suffocation, Fallujah, All Shall Perish et al.) at SharkBite/Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland, California, WRVTH’s latest offering features a guest appearance from Daniel Casares of Bay Area jazz group, Atta Kid, on saxophone and boasts eleven tracks of jolting, transcendental death metal that tread a fine line between peaceful and punishing. Said Metal Injection upon investigation of their first single: “‘Harrowing Winds’ is deceiving in that in begins with a very subdued, atmospheric guitar passage before taking off into a cacophony of sonic chaos. This is not an easy balance to achieve well, but WRVTH seem to have it nailed down. The musicianship is very impressive, and like almost all of the other Bay Area-based tech death bands, the album was produced by Zack Ohren, which means it sounds awesome too.” No Clean Singing agrees, “The music builds in volume, weight, and intensity – eventually accelerating into a brain-twisting frenzy of tech-death dissonance, full of exuberant guitar and bass machinations. But as freaked-out as the instrumental work is (and as unpredictable as the vocal array of shrieks, growls, and roars becomes), the band also hits some jack-hammering grooves and infiltrates the track with off-world melodies, along with delivering a beautiful guitar solo. And that opening dual guitar harmony returns, along with a badass bass solo. Together, they act as a bridge to a final mind-expanding display of progressively inclined pyrotechnics.”

Comments the band of “Into Bloom,” “This songs very personal. It talks about finding who and where you want to be through chasing your dreams.”

Check out “Into Bloom,” now playing at Skulls ‘N’ Bones who calls the tune “unpredictable, raw, and unrelenting,” at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, sample WRVTH’s “Harrowing Winds” at THIS LOCATION.

WRVTH is currently breaking stages as part of the Dawn Of The Shred tour. Assembled by Sojourner Booking and presented by Digital Tour Bus and Mt. Baker Vapor, Dawn Of The Shred kicked off May 6th in Van Nuys, California and will stomp through a total of eighteen cities, the final show to take place on May 26th in Fresno, California.

WRVTH w/ Ænimus, Memories In Broken Glass:
5/20/2015 Boiler Room – Dallas, TX
5/21/2015 Dirty Dog Bar – Austin, TX
5/22/2015 Yayas – Abilene, TX

CATTLE DECAPITATION To Release The Anthropocene Extinction This August Via Metal Blade Records; First Single Unveiled + Special Record Release Show Announced

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015

Anthropocene
/ænˈθrɒpəˌsiːn/
noun

Anthropocene, a proposed term for the present geological epoch (from the time of the Industrial Revolution onwards), during which humanity has begun to have a significant impact on the environment.

In 2012, CATTLE DECAPITATION shocked the metal world with what was revered by fans and haters alike as their best album to date, Monolith Of Inhumanity. Here we are, three years later, CATTLE DECAPITATION and Metal Blade Records are pleased to unveil to the world the band’s magnum opus with The Anthropocene Extinction, set for world wide release August 7th, 2015.

Reenlisting Monolith Of Inhumanity producer Dave Otero (Allegaeon, Cephalic Carnage), CATTLE DECAPITATION returned to Flatline Audio in Denver, Colorado, eager to revisit the close collaboration that helped bring that record to life. “Dave is a bonafide producer,” elaborates vocalist Travis Ryan. “He’s got a lot of great ideas and this time we heard him out pretty religiously because making Monolith… had worked out so well. We’ve always kind of co-produced our records with whoever we brought in, but these last two we did a lot more listening to what he had to say rather than just sticking with what we were saying. Sometimes we shot down his ideas and vice versa, but that discussion was always beneficial. He basically becomes the fifth member of the band at that point, and I think that kind of relationship is the best way to get anything out of anybody.”

CATTLE DECAPITATION also enlisted a surprising array of guests to help achieve their vision. The one and only legendary PHILIP H. ANSELMO lends his throat to “The Prophets Of Loss” while recent signee to his Housecore Records label, fellow San Diegan and friend of the band, AUTHOR & PUNISHER, brings forth the industrial damnation as an intro to the track “Plagueborne.” Additionally, Germany’s dark metal misanthrope, MR. JURGEN BARTSCH of the almighty BETHLEHEM, lends a spoken word piece in his native tongue to the apocalyptic final track “Pacific Grim.” Your body simply is not ready.

The record also sees the band extending their collaboration with illustrator Wes Benscoter, who’s handled the artwork for every CATTLE DECAPITATION release since 2002’s To Serve Man. “When we work with Wes, he becomes a member of the band,” says Ryan. As always, Benscoter formulated striking imagery that conveyed the record’s themes in unflinching style, the cover featuring a bloated and distorted corpse washed up on a beach, its torn abdomen disgorging a mass of waste plastic.

Whereas Monolith Of Inhumanity dealt with what could become of the earth and its life forms had humans continued their present course, with The Anthropocene Extinction we have been transported forward to man’s last gasps, reminiscent of what is currently going on with the Laysan Albatrosses on the island of Midway Atoll. The birds and aquatic wildlife of the Pacific Ocean are mistaking the vast amounts of man-made plastic items for food, ingesting it and are dying in large numbers, rotting where they fall and exposing to the world what is happening to the ecosystems of the earth’s oceans – the most unknown and unexplored part of our planet. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch of the North Pacific Gyre is just part of the problem – there are five gyres on planet earth and they’re all filling with plastic waste outnumbering the plankton vital for the ocean’s ecosystems. The breakdown of the earth’s ecosystems has begun long ago due to human interaction as well as the domino effect that will surely seal the fate for our species: The Anthropocene Extinction.

The first taste of The Anthropocene Extinction comes in the form of opening track, “Manufactured Extinct,” now available for public consumption at metalblade.com/cattledecapitation.

VALBORG: German Dark Metal Eccentrics Reveal New Video At No Clean Singing; Romantik Full-Length Out TODAY On Temple Of Torturous

Tuesday, May 19th, 2015

Today German dark, primitive metal trio, VALBORG, who feature within their eccentric ranks current and former members of Owl, Klabautamann, Woburn House, Gruenewald and more, undrape their fifth full-length via Temple Of Torturous. Titled Romantik, the follow-up to 2012’s critically-lauded Nekrodepression offering, thrusts forth six confounding tracks of morose, avant, blackened ambiance. A cerebral sound exhibition into dark and light, atmospheric synthesizers twine around wistful guitars, slowly and deliberately hovering above a foundation of palpitating rhythms, the band’s harsh, German vocal inflections adding further trepidation to their profoundly bleak brand of funeral power doom.

Elaborates Last Rites, “Romantik is easily the most insanely atmospheric thing VALBORG has released, but it still has strong roots in doom and branches reaching to dark rock and cinematic synth music. The whole thing sounds like the results of Vangelis collaborating with (Triptykon-era) Tom G. Warrior and (Jesu-era) Justin Broadrick on the soundtrack for a story of tragic love directed by John Carpenter. It is as emotionally and tonally complex as it is simple and barren, a seemingly huge change for a band that has always valued their rockin’ side, but not necessarily a surprise for long time Valborg and Zeitgeister followers…” Echoes And Dust issues, “VALBORG’s Romantik is certainly an acquired taste, but one that is immensely rewarding for the open-minded listener. If you’re tired of groove, tremolo riff blast sections and hyperspeed shredding, and are open to slow lurching melodies and keyboard washes in the vein of early Paradise Lost redone with early ambient black metal touches, this is for you,” while Zombie Ritual champions the release noting, “every song transmits different states of mind and of course it takes you into (almost) hypnotic trips in melodic walls of sound. Music manages different layers, but everything is tied by darkness and sorrow…”

In observance of its release, today No Clean Singing brings fans and curious onlookers the twisted visual accompaniment to fourth movement, “Sulphur Vitriol Angel.” The disquieting clip was created by German artist Soheyl Nassary who chose the song and shaped the concept. “My work is based mostly on a visual idea, which tells a story and creates a mood by default through targeted production. The floral theme is a game with Romantik stereotypes and thus to contextualize the VALBORG song/music theme.”

Adds No Clean Singing, “Yes, there are flowers in the video – lots of flowers – worn in a way that you usually don’t see as adornment for a metal band. And while this may not take the world by storm as a fashion statement, it begins to make a strange kind of sense if you pay attention to the music. Which is why I recommend you listen to the song a second time without the hallucinatory visuals, because the first time you may have some difficulty concentrating on the sounds… the music is very much worth your full attention… It moves slowly, with a simple beat, gradually weaving a gothic/doom spell that becomes increasingly compelling as time passes. The combined guitar-and-keyboard melody is entrancing, while the brief appearances of jagged riffs and equally jagged rasps provide the feel of the knife, lurking there, just under your neck. These flowers must have the fragrance of sulphur.”

Take in “Sulphur Vitriol Angel,” and all its cryptic floral arrangements, at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, sample VALBORG’s “Comtesse,” still streaming at Decibel at THIS LOCATION.

Romantik was produced, recorded and mixed by Oliver Weiskopf at Stonehenge Studios and mastered by Michael Schwabe at Monoposto Mastering. Following four albums based around experimental, skull-crushing doom, with Romantik, VALBORG delves deeper into the heart-tearing atmospheres of the abyss of which they’ve so boldly explored. Fans of Type O Negative, Vangelis, Killing Joke and Celtic Frost/Triptykon pay heed.

Romantik is released on CD and digitally TODAY and on vinyl June 16th, 2015 via Temple Of Torturous. Orders can be placed at THIS LOCATION.

SECRETS OF THE SKY Unleashes “Eternal Wolves” Video; Pathway Full-Length Out TODAY On Metal Blade Records

Tuesday, May 19th, 2015

Today, the cerebral doom-weavers in SECRETS OF THE SKY are pleased to officially unleash the harsh, otherworldly fruits of their Pathway full-length to North American ears.

Likened to, “the doom equivalent of Alcest’s Écailles_de_Lune or Solstafir on last year’s Ótta… records with beauty, staying power and just enough grit to carry the day,” by Invisible Oranges upon initial investigation of the offering, Pathway is a true audio exploration delivering thirteen epic tracks that yield varying tempers and textures with each passing listen. Engineered, mixed, mastered and co-produced by Juan Urteaga (Machine Head, Testament, Sadus etc.) of Trident Studios with SECRETS OF THE SKY, the record has already reaped critical approval from media outlets nationwide, with the word “masterpiece” becoming a common description among critics.

Metal Injection named the band’s first single, “Three Swords” a, “progressive metal masterpiece,” on its own accord. HeavyBlogIsHeavy calls the record “masterful, self-possessed, powerful and convincing,” furthering, “When push comes to shove, this has been about one thing: executing a doom masterpiece.” Adds Wonderbox Metal, “These are superior compositions that should see SECRETS OF THE SKY propelled to the upper echelons of the progressive/doom/post-whatever pantheon. Like a canvas painted in sound, this is destined to be a masterpiece.” Metal Insider dubs Pathway, “a colossal effort with some stupendous songwriting and production work,” Dead Rhetoric shares the sentiment calling the effort, “an emotionally draining journey,” championing Pathway for having, “all of the inner workings of a great and resonating album,” while MetalTalk.net equates the work to, “a glass of wine that deserves to be enjoyed in a comfy chair in front of open fire.”

In celebration of its release, today SECRETS OF THE SKY reveals a brand new video for dramatic twelfth movement, “Eternal Wolves,” viewable at metalblade.com/secretsofthesky where you’ll also find the band’s recently unveiled, Andrew Nethery (Melvins, Kyuss Lives, Dead Meadow)-directed clip for “Angel In Vines.”
