GOATWHORE New Orleans’ Favorite Metal Legion Announces US Headlining Dates + Band To Support Samhain On Select Shows

Thursday, August 28th, 2014

New Orleans’ favorite metal legion, GOATWHORE, will embark upon another bout of live headlining invasions next month. Set to launch in Houston on September 15th, the band will trounce fourteen cities including five shows supporting death rock/horror punk legends, Samhain!

In November, GOATWHORE will bring their sadistic anthems overseas for a European incursion with headliners Dying Fetus. The extended trek embarks on November 8th in Liege, Belgium, and will march through nearly four dozen metropolises, coming to a close on December 20th in Leer, Germany.

GOATWHORE is currently touring in support of their mammoth Constricting Rage Of The Merciless full-length unleashed to the masses in July via Metal Blade Records. Crowned “the new high water mark of the group’s work thus far,” by Metal Injection, Constricting Rage Of The Merciless debuted at #81 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, toppling their last entry position of #171 with Blood For The Master. The infernal masterwork also ranked in at #21 on Billboard’s Rock chart, #7 on the Hard Rock chart and #13 on the Independent chart. If you missed it, view the band’s devouring new video for third Constricting… psalm, “Baring Teeth For Revolt” below.

We are currently hiding in empty pickle barrels in the hold of a tramp steamer on its way to one of your American ports. In related news, GHOUL recently penetrated Creepsylvanian National Television with the new rogue installment of their “Burning Questions” video series. Watch Cremator roast their inquisitive fanbase and other vats of humankind’s fallout with Burning Questions below.

Additionally, GHOUL announced a new addition to their maggot-infested back-catalog, with the vinyl manifestation of their debut album, We Came For The Dead!!! Initially released in 2002, We Came For The Dead!!! was an instant cult classic in the most putrid depths of the metal underworld, delivering  a slick, punk-infused style of American goregrind from an unidentified tomb in the depths of Creepsylvania, where they’ve since waged war on mortals from with full anonymity. Having brainwashed countless souls since with a plethora of disturbing musical platters, GHOUL now offers up We Came For The Dead!!! on vinyl which includes a GHOULish rendition of Megadeth’s “Skull Beneath The Skin.”

We Came For The Dead!!! will be available for public consumption September 9th, 2014 via Tankcrimes on three gruesome color variants: a “More Blood” red edition in a run of 666, the ultra-limited “Torch” pressing in a tri-color yellow/orange/bone scheme, and the Die Hard edition, which bears a “Blood Spill” red inside clear vinyl, foil stamped jacket, flexi postcard w/ bonus track “We Are Creepsylvanians” by Igvar Shmeltzy and the Turnips. All vinyl editions include an instant download. Get gritty on this action HERE. And for the CD and digital format junkies, the album comes paired up with GHOUL’s ghastly follow-up to We Came For The Dead!!!, Maniaxe, as a nifty two-for-one album deal available now. Who says GHOUL doesn’t like bargains. Order the CD HERE (or in stores worldwide) or the digital version HERE.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE: Seward Fairbury Found! Additional Live Assaults Announced

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

CORRECTIONS HOUSE Minister Of Propaganda, Seward Fairbury, was located at a mental health facility in Northwestern Arizona last Friday. Some weeks back Fairbury was involved in some sort of as-yet-undetermined violence in his Northern California home. No charges have been filed as of yet. He’s been missing for nearly two months.

Interim band spokesperson/guitarist Scott Kelly had this to say: “We have been searching as best we could and maybe even praying a little for Seward to turn up somewhere. To put it mildly, he’s complicated and we truly barely have a grasp on who he even is in reality. We know that he has attached his psychic warhorse to our souls and ourselves and I think anyone who’s ever been in contact with him knows that’s just one those, it is what it is, type situations. He’s with us for better or worse. I guess now we will just wait to see what emerges from these latest shadows that he’s fallen into.”

Fairbury’s past is virtually unknown aside from his family’s lengthy criminal history which dates back to earliest settlers in the Northern California region. He has been involved in the music scene for well over thirty years in some capacity or another. He has previously dealt with psycho schizoid issues.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE will continue their live assaults this week in Chicago on August 28th and 29th as direct support of the legendary Sleep at Thalia Hall with an additional ritual slated to take place at this year’s edition of the Housecore Horror Film Festival. CORRECTIONS HOUSE will also continue diligent work on their second album which nears completion.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE Live:
8/28/2014 Thalia Hall – Chicago, IL
8/29/2014 Thalia Hall – Chicago, IL
10/23-10/26/2014 Housecore Horror Film Fest – Austin, TX w/ Neurosis, Eyehategod, Samhain, Author & Punisher, Cattle Decapitation, more

AUTHOR & PUNISHER Announces New Round Of Live Assaults; “The Drone Machines Shall Return!”

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

Master sound conspirator, Tristan Shone, will bring his cacophonous manifestation of cold, mechanical doom known as AUTHOR & PUNISHER to the streets in the coming months for a clobbering run of live takeovers. Set to commence next Thursday with a special performance and design talk at Hopscotch Festival in Raleigh, Shone will levy his punishing sonic decompositions upon several additional music fests including San Diego Music Thing, Cold Waves Festival, Southwest Terror Fest and Philip Anselmo’s Housecore Horror Film Fest, with future enactments in December in their plotting stages.

Comments Shone: “After a Summer of retooling and writing music for the upcoming release [stay tuned for details] I am taking to the skies and highways for a collection of special performances and festivals. After laying dormant for several years, the Drone Machines shall return for some of these events that don’t involve airplanes due to weight and power. ”

AUTHOR & PUNISHER:
9/04/2014 Hopscotch Festival – Raleigh, NC (performance and design talk)
9/12/2014 San Diego Music Thing – San Diego, CA w/ Earth, King Dude
9/20/2014 Complex – Los Angeles, CA w/ 3Teeth
9/26/2014 Cold Waves Festival – Chicago, IL w/ Fear Factory, Die Krupps, Youth Code, more…
10/18/2014 Southwest Terror Fest – Tucson, AZ w/ Neurosis, The Body, Sunn O))), Goatsnake, more…
10/23-10/26 Housecore Horror Film Fest – Austin, TX w/ Neurosis, Eyehategod, Corrections House, Cattle Decapitation, more

AUTHOR & PUNISHER’s latest full-length, Women & Children, was released last year via Seventh Rule Recordings. Crowned “powerful and chilling” by Metal Injection and commended for being “immediate but mysterious, a chimera that’s recognizable but strange,” by Pitchfork, the record continues to astound listeners globally for its ominously expressive brand of mechanical doom. In employing primarily custom designed and fabricated machines, speakers and various devices that draw heavily on aspects of industrial automation and robotics, Shone – who boasts a BS in mechanical engineering and an MFA in visual arts — manages to replicate dejection, desperation and profound sorrow through his musical corrosion with curious poise and beauty.

If you missed it, Shone spoke with Wired Magazine for an in-depth investigation of the voice modulating masks – among many other handcrafted industrial contraptions — that aid in his cacophonous manifestation of sound. View the video and feature HERE.

ANAAL NATHRAKH: Birmingham Extreme Metal Miscreants To Release Desideratum This October Via Metal Blade Records; New Track Streaming + Preorders Available

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

Birmingham-based extreme metal miscreants and recent Metal Blade signees, ANAAL NATHRAKH, are pleased to infect the masses with their anticipated new full-length this Fall. Titled Desideratum, the follow-up to 2012’s critically-lauded Vanitas full-length was again produced by guitarist/bassist/programmer Mick Kenney, with vocals recorded at Necrodeath Studios in Birmingham, while the music was tracked and mixed at The Black Flamingo in Orange County, California. The final product boasts eleven emotionally traumatizing hymns of unrepentant, sonic deviance embodying the crux of pure evil.

ANAAL NATHRAKH — Kenney alongside vocalist David Hunt AKA V.I.T.R.I.O.L. — exists for one purpose: to be the soundtrack to the apocalypse; the audial essence of evil, hatred and violence, the true spirit of necro taken to its musical extremes. Since forming in 1999, the devious duo has gained a reputation for expressing precisely these things. With both screaming banshee and traditional vocals set against a backdrop of controlled chaos, what ANAAL NATHRAKH manifests is plainly frightening. Their winding history includes not only the release of seven albums and an EP to rapturous acclaim, but collaborations with such iconic figures as Attila Csihar (Mayhem), Shane Embury and Danny Herrera (Napalm Death), Nick Barker (Testament, Dimmu Borgir), Joe Horvath (Circle Of Dead Children), Sethlans Teitan (Watain) and more. This, alongside appearing on BBC Radio 1 at the personal behest of sadly missed legend John Peel, headlining a stage at the renowned cult Inferno Festival in Norway as their debut international live appearance, countless rankings among “best album of the year” polls and “album of the month” in the press and cover appearances on top magazines such as Terrorizer, ANAAL NATHRAKH’s status as one of the leading lights in extreme metal is undeniable. Uniquely hallmarked by pulverizing musical ferocity, inventiveness and breadth, married with mercurial, intensely misanthropic and sharp intelligence, ANAAL NATHRAKH’s sound is imbued with a palpable sense of menace that is virtually unmatched in metal. This year ANAAL NATHRAKH are set to reach ever higher on their mission to send the Earth crashing into the Sun.

Desideratum Track Listing:
1. Acheronta Movebimu
2. Unleash
3. Monstrum In Animo
4. The One Thing Needful
5. A Firm Foundation Of Unyielding Despair
6. Desideratum
7. Idol
8. Sub Specie Aeterni (Of Maggots, And Humanity)
9. The Joystream
10. Rage And Red
11. Ita Mori

Desideratum will devour the masses whole on October 28th, 2014. In the meantime, you are cordially invited to sear the skin right off your bones with first single, “Idol,” now streaming at metalblade.com/anaalnathrakh where you’ll also find a host of menacing preorder packages. Additionally, fans who preorder the record via iTunes will receive a download of “Idol” instantly.

Further ANAAL NATHRAKH news and teasers to be dispersed in the coming weeks. You have been warned.

“…these dudes split ‘terrifyingly heavy and fierce’ and ‘giant dork’ straight down the middle and sew it up again like Dr. Frankenstein working on the monster.’ – Decibel

ANAAL NATHRAKH are one of the best bands out there when it comes to evoking horror and terror… a master class in extreme metal” — MetalSucks

“…a thrill ride of horrors” – Pitchfork

BLACKWOLFGOAT: New LP From Progressive Drone Project Streaming In Full At Decibel

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

In celebration of its official release, today Decibel Magazine hurls forth Drone Maintenance, the cathartic new long player from one-man progressive drone project, BLACKWOLFGOAT, in its entirety!

Conjured by guitarist Darryl Shepard (Black Pyramid, The Scimitar, Hackman, Milligram, Roadsaw), who specializes in looped guitar movements, building and layering upon each other to create compositions of dense distortion and delicate lines, psychedelic guitar freak-outs as well as purely ambient pieces, Drone Maintenance is a psychological voyage through space and time.

Engineered and mixed by Glenn Smith (Tired Old Bones Ehnahre, Ichabod et al) at his Amps vs. Ohms studios in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the ten-track Drone Maintenance is a quasi-concept album that sends Shepard into the future as a drone repairman, fixing and servicing rogue drones. Elaborates Shepard, “On Drone Maintenance humans maintain drones which could turn on them at any moment. The soundtrack to this trip is a mixture of drone, Krautrock, doom, fusion and psych. Needless to say, it does not end well for our protagonist.”

Adds Decibel Magazine, “A mesmerizing mix of psychedelia, drone, and general experimentalism, Drone Maintenance takes the listener on a journey, its deliberate repetition bringing about an almost hypnotic state similar to Six Organs of Admittance or Ash Ra Tempel. Unlike most drone, things actually happen in these songs!”

Got a drone to service? You’ve come to the right place. Scroll on over to Decibel Magazine at THIS LOCATION.

Drone Maintenance is out TODAY via Small Stone Recordings. Order your copy today at THIS LOCATION.

Drone Maintenance invites us into an alternate, futuristic dimension, where we see life through the eyes of a drone repairman, and the music invokes a strange feeling, one of being the last human job on a mechanized planet, but not necessarily in a dystopic way.” – Cvlt Nation

BLACKWOLFGOAT is a project that will, at times, challenge a lot of people to reexamine their cloistered definition of ‘music’ and yet simultaneously and ably give them the tools to do so.” – Lonesome Noise

“Drone Maintenance is simply hypnotic at times while being melodic at others. You can only expect the unexpected, which is what one would listen to an album like this for. This album will challenge the listener to reevaluate what they feel an album should sound like. Fans of bands such as Sunn0))) and Earth should really give BLACKWOLFGOAT a listen.” – Wicked Channel

YOB: New Full-Length From Portland Doom-Bringers Now Playing In Full Via Pitchfork; Clearing The Path To Ascend To See North American Release Next Week

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

As commanding as it is cathartic, Clearing The Path To Ascend, the long-anticipated new full-length from Portland doom technicians, YOB, demands the tandem attention of mind, body, and soul. The path to ascend is clearly an arduous one, fraught with the peril of mediocrity. YOB pummels that path however, climbing upward into a realm that sets the band in a heavy metal place that has been and will always remain wholly their own. Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene alongside longtime collaborator/iconic sound-sage Billy Barnett, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering, Clearing The Path To Ascend is a genuinely visceral listening experience.

In an advance investigation of the record, Last Rites dubs YOB, “one of the heaviest bands currently walking the third rock from the sun, even if they sometimes sound as if they are transporting their sounds from deep space.” Stereogum concurs, “YOB are the best doom band in the world today, and Clearing The Path To Ascend is the best doom album you’ll hear this year. It is, quite possibly, the best metal album you’ll hear this year, maybe the best album of the year, period.” Elsewhere the sentiment echoes. Sludgelord notes, “Heavy, discordant, startling and genuinely touching, this album is a true-blue metal odyssey that rewards every listener who dares to take the journey with them. Headphones on. Eyes closed. Experience YOB.” Noisey gushes, “In the worlds YOB make, the music’s solidity pulls against its subject’s uncertainty. The slow drips of percussion and roars of guitar feel geologically real, while the lyrics and samples hidden in the songs hint that ‘real’ is only a feeling,” while MetalStorm adds, “YOB have a unique way of creating music that’s entirely sheltered in acute directness and yet still manages to deliver undiscovered subtleties on repeated listens. I love their startling ability to sink to new depths of desensitizing heaviness with song designs that are more or less uncomplicated but still can appease the layman’s metal music listener.”

In celebration of its imminent release, now just one week away, Pitchfork is offering up Clearing The Path To Ascend in its bone-crushing, soul-cradling entirety via their Advance Series at THIS LOCATION.

In conjunction with the release, YOB will spread their purifying riff rituals overseas this Fall on an epic binge of performances slated to commence on September 3rd, 2014 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The band will be joined by Little Rock’s Pallbearer. See confirmed ceremonies below.

MEGATON LEVIATHAN: Psychedelic Doom Practitioners Premiere New Hymn Via Invisible Oranges; Preorders Available

Friday, August 22nd, 2014

MEGATON LEVIATHAN is preparing to release their most psychologically stirring, sprawling manifestation of sound to date with Past 21 Beyond The Arctic Cell.

Set for release via Seventh Rule Recordings next month, the record was mixed by MEGATON’s newest resident thaumaturgist, Mort Subite (V.I.I.R.L., Alfheimr, Benighted In Sodom live), and is a near lethal dose of solemn audio narcotic, shifting the listener somewhere outside the realm of space-time for the duration of its dissociative transduction from speakers to brain. Glacial, yet burning with divine fire, Past 21’s spell is simultaneously whispered in a hallowed chapel, and torn from a throat rent by the gnashing of teeth.

In celebration of its imminent release, today Invisible Oranges offers up first track, “Past 21,” for mass consumption/reflection, relaying “Like elder experimentalists, MEGATON LEVIATHAN are driven to create, explore, and meddle with moods. ‘Past 21’ is a fine example, opening with a cracked doom progression a la Old Man Gloom and spending the next four minutes shading in a map of a craggy, hellish landscape. The drone-verture could soundtrack a sci-fi moon landing, one unveiling an icy Io-esque tomb while providing the proper you-gonna-die foreshadowing. It’s also a kind of painful purgatory: if you took the wrong drugs, you might think it’s going to be a long night. Then MEGATON LEVIATHAN flip the script. At 4:06, ‘Past 21’ breaks free of its downer stasis thanks to a deep guitar crunch supported by pumping organs. Now you’re swaddled in warmth. The song is still blue but it’s on the rise and moving, buoyed by an epiphany of acceptance. Whatever trepidation you had before is blasted away with deliciously sad strings, solos that float like ash from a fire, and vocals that have that unobtrusive-yet-totally-affecting lilt of Kenny Hickey. Things have clicked. Welcome to nine minutes of melancholy bliss. The instruments ring out. You finally exhale. What a trip.”

Adds founder/lone original member, Andrew James Costa Reuscher, “The graal can only be obtained once everything is lost in its quest. SMIB.”

Take the trip with “Past 21,” now playing at THIS LOCATION.

In April of 2014, Reuscher and Subite took Past 21 on the road for a first round of West Coast dates as a one man show/performance piece featuring heavy visual elements with Reuscher the unifying human component, and Subite as the hidden hand, mixing live audio. MEGATON LEVIATHAN later tapped V.I.I.R.L. drummer Markus Covello to join the onstage lineup. With Reuscher handling vocal and guitar operations, and Subite continuing his live audio duties, this revamped, three-man cast will form the core of the MEGATON LEVIATHAN live experience for the duration of the forthcoming performances. See confirmed dates below.

IDES OF GEMINI: New Psalm Now Streaming At Revolver

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

With the official unveiling of their Old World New Wave full-length now less than one month away, Los Angeles ethereal dream-raiders, IDES OF GEMINI, are pleased to offer up another helping of sonic sanctity with “The Adversary.”

Elaborates guitarist Jason Bennett of the consuming tune, “The album was sequenced with vinyl in mind, so the ‘old world’ songs are on side one and the ‘new wave’ songs are on side two. ‘The Adversary’ is from the ‘new wave’ side of the album, which we see as a hint toward the musical direction of future IDES OF GEMINI releases. At least that’s what we’re saying now, until we write a bunch of new stuff that sounds nothing like this”

Lose yourself in the “new wave” courtesy of Revolver Magazine at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, sample the ethereal majesty of “old wave” track “The Chalice & The Blade,” still streaming at Noisey HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI features Bennett, drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson and the haunting vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of West Coast dark-psych conjurors Black Mare. The follow-up to the band’s 2012 Constantinople debut, which Pitchfork christened “darkly beautiful,” and Terrorizer likened to, “a metallic-filtered kinship to Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star,” Old World New Wave was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson. Notes Timms of their latest manifestation, “For Old World New Wave we all really coalesced as a band, and were able to work off one another’s strengths. J came up with the basic concept and musical framework of the album, and Kelly and I gave it form and identity. For me, my own personal musical identity, taste, preferences etc. were eclipsed by the power of the music which worked as an animate force unto itself — so much so that I cannot listen to any of it objectively, or tell you if it’s good or bad, but I can tell you that it’s distinctively IDES OF GEMINI.”

IDES OF GEMINI will grace the stage this Fall with a pair of live performances, the first serving as the trio’s official record release gala in Los Angeles, the second playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show. Additional IDES rituals will to be announced in the coming weeks.

IDES OF GEMINI Live:
9/19/2014 The Complex – Los Angeles, CA IDES OF GEMINI Record Release Show w/ Ancestors, Glaare, Maja D’Aoust (as The Oracle) [info]
12/18/2014 The Roxy – Los Angeles, CA [info]

Old World New Wave will be released on CD and digitally via Neurot Recordings and on vinyl via SIGE Records on September 16th, 2014.

BLOODTRUTH: Metal Assault Unleashes Lyric Video From Unique Leader-Bound Debut Album

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

With the impending doom of their debut album, Obedience, looming, Italian death metal horde BLOODTRUTH has created a lyric video for the album’s eighth track, “Foresworn,” which is today viewable via Metal Assault.

The ten tracks engulfing BLOODTRUTH’s Obedience tap into a wealth of unadulterated lyrical hatred released through incinerating waves of limb-removing, guttural metal. Engineered by Francesco Paoli and Cristiano Trionfera (both of Fleshgod Apocalypse) at Sonic Hammer Studios, Obedience was then mixed and mastered by Italian death metal producer and legend Stefano Morabito of 16th Cellars Studios (Hour of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Eyeconoclast, Unfanthomable Ruination, Inherit Disease, and is enshrouded with some of the most intense artwork to date by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design (Exodus, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Kataklysm), the perfect summary of the level of extreme comprising Obedience.

The new lyric video for the album’s “Foresworn” destroyer is now playing at Metal Assault RIGHT HERE.

Initially forged in 2009 as the side project of Fleshgod Apocalypse members Francesco Paoli and Paolo Rossi and now featuring the updated lineup of vocalist Luigi Valenti, guitarist Stefano Rossi Ciucci, bassist Riccardo Rogari and drummer Giacomo Torti, BLOODTRUTH heaves forth a sonic fireball of speed, brutality and unadulterated hate. Fusing the cryptic atmosphere of early ‘90s death metal and evocative Gregorian chant, representing the band’s homeland and history, with methodical technicality, BLOODTRUTH are ceaseless in their ear-lacerating capabilities. A visual teaser for Obedience was previously released HERE.

California-based Unique Leader Records will release Obedience on September 16th, 2014.
