REDEMPTION: Fund To Aid Guitarist Bernie Versailles Created

Friday, October 31st, 2014

On the morning of October 5th, 2014, guitarist Bernie Versailles of Redemption, Agent Steel, Engine, Masters Of Metal and others, suffered a brain aneurysm and was rushed to an emergency room in Southern California for an operation. While many know him as a talented guitarist, songwriter, and recording engineer, Bernie is also a loving friend, son, brother, and parent — alongside his longtime partner Soma — to two young children, Sevina and Apollo. Those who know him can attest that his personality radiates kindness, generosity, and humility.

Last week, Bernie underwent a successful craniotomy to permanently fix his aneurysm; physical therapy will follow.

Longtime friends Gary Wells and Juan Garcia wish to rally the worldwide metal community to assist Bernie’s fight in overcoming this unexpected health hurdle by launching a fundraising page on YouCaring.com. Thus far, nearly $5800 has been raised. No matter how small, donations will aid in Bernie’s rehabilitation toward a full recovery and will help his family cope with the growing medical expenses.

Your concern and compassion toward a much loved human being who has given his heart and talent to the world is greatly appreciated.

Donations for Bernie Versailles are being accepted RIGHT HERE.

REDEMPTION’s latest release, Live From The Pit, was released in September via Sensory Records. The new live-recorded audio/visual full-length album from Los Angeles-based progressive superforce was filmed and recorded as the band co-headlined the world-famous 2012 installment of the annual ProgPower Festival in Atlanta, where the band performed a unique show featuring nearly eighty minutes of material and staged with complementary visuals that drive home the compelling emotional impact of this band. This monumental performance not only captured the special ability of the band’s music to deeply connect with fans, the tradition now continues, as the set becomes available as Live From The Pit, a massive package including the full album in both audio CD as well as a joining DVD which features a 5.1 surround mix, bonus material/features and more.

View the “Noonday Devil” from the album at THIS LOCATION. Live From The Pit is available from Sensory Records, the CD/DVD package HERE and the audio-only download HERE.

CHILD BITE: Detroit Punk/Metal Eccentrics Release New Video Featuring King Buzzo; Band Comments On Housecore Horror Film Fest Co-Founder’s Death

Thursday, October 30th, 2014

Currently leveling stages throughout the Midwest and East Coast, Michigan punk/metal eccentrics, CHILD BITE, recently dropped a brand new video for “Ancestral Ooze” upon unsuspecting masses.

Now playing exclusively at Decibel Magazine, “Ancestral Ooze” serves as the fourth track on the band’s forthcoming Strange Waste EP set for release next month via Housecore Records. Spewing their self-proclaimed “music for losers,” the nine-track Strange Waste — recorded at Russian Recording in Indianapolis, Indiana and produced by the band — finds CHILD BITE in full-throated pigfuck mode, pulling from various extreme ends of metal, noise, and hardcore without falling squarely into any of those genres. Elaborates Decibel of the vibrant clip, “The video, a tribute to the 1987 underground horror flick Street Trash (which, incidentally, was also referenced by the whole premise of a recent episode of new show Gotham), features Buzz Osborne as the dealer of brightly colored beverages that cause people to meet their ends in various exquisitely gruesome ways. The video was written and directed by ex-Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Jeff Tuttle.”

Get sticky with “Ancestral Ooze,” now playing at THIS LOCATION.

The official unveiling of the video served as a precursor to CHILD BITE’s performance at this year’s Housecore Horror Film Festival, a wildly magical weekend of metal and horror that ended with tragic and untimely passing of festival co-founder, Corey Mitchell. Comments vocalist Shawn Knight of Mitchell’s death: “When CHILD BITE played the first Housecore Horror Film Festival, we were so blown away by the lineup it was hard to imagine year number two even coming close. Somehow they pulled it off with yet another incredible selection of bands. I got to see some of my all-time favorites — Napalm Death, Gwar, Samhain etc. — as well as rad new underground acts — Acid Witch, King Parrot, Author & Punisher etc. Our live set there was a blast on the new outdoor stage, and we had fun screening our latest music video in one of the movie tents as well. Everything at Housecore Horror Film Fest is curated and operated incredibly well for being such a new, DIY event. The passing of Corey Mitchell was absolutely shocking; we were en route to New Orleans for another show when I received word from [Housecore’s] Kate [Richardson]. Corey was so enthusiastic and supportive throughout the fest, not just to me but literally every person he came in contact with. We worked on the Housecore Horror Film Festival magazine ads together leading up to the fest, and as far as being a ‘client,’ he was the best. Positive and on top of his stuff. I’m pissed off that I won’t be able to work with him again. Our hearts go out to his wife and two daughters.”

CHILD BITE Live 2014 [remaining dates]:

10/31/2014 The Empty Bottle – Chicago, IL

ANCIENT VVISDOM: Occult Death Rock Conjurors Unveil In-Depth Track-By-Track Investigation Of New Full-Length At Revolver Magazine

Thursday, October 30th, 2014

Sacrificial is the latest full-length from occult death rock conjurors, ANCIENT VVISDOM. Released last week via the Magic Bullet Records compound, Sacrificial was produced by founding vocalist Nathan Opposition, engineered by Travis Bonner at The Diamond Factory Studios in Austin, mastered by Paul Logus (Anthrax, Clutch, Hellyeah, Shadows Fall et al) at Taloowa Mastering, and continues to push the boundaries of both death rock and neo-folk while retaining the memorable simplicity and melodic catchiness present on their previous audio output.

In a near perfect 4.5/5 review Metal Underground calls Sacrificial, “A fantastic effort that perfectly straddles the line between melody and heaviness,” Hellride Music agrees dubbing the offering, “a vital, unflinching work reflective of their passions and beliefs,” while Ghost Cult surmises, “Both enticing and enchanting Sacrificial captures the listener with its satisfying mixture of heaviness and melody. While the sound has certainly taken a stronger step towards the most traditional occult metal style, this record has proved it is certainly not a bad move from the band. With strong riffs, a great mix and catchy vocal melodies, Sacrificial would have the Devil himself tapping away to the odd track.” Adds Metal Reviews, “This is a revolutionary step for ANCIENT VVISDOM, and a welcome one for their metal-loving listeners. Added to the sturdy little melodies they featured in previous albums is a newfound heaviness to hammer them home into the ear, entirely free of classic-rock pretensions that make certain other modern occult rock bands noisome after a while. Sacrificial is a very easy album to love, whether one leans toward metal or just hard rock, and deserves a listen by either kind of fan.”

In celebration of its release, Revolver is currently hosting an in-depth track-by-track breakdown of the record as told by Opposition. In speaking of “Sacrifice, Opposition elaborates, “Smooth soothing bass and drums lead the way with a Danzig-like intensity. The guitars drop in with vocals and the ceremony has begun. I call upon the bearer of light to come forth from the abyss and the power of the left hand path. There, in the mind of every human being, is the enlightening of all the ages, the ultimate sacrifice.”

You can also sample “City Of Stone” currently streaming at Cvlt Nation at THIS LOCATION as well as “Chaos Will Reign,” still playing at Burning Ambulance at THIS LOCATION.

WIZARD RIFLE: Stoner/Doom/Noise Rock Contortionists Announce November Live Takeover; Here In The Deadlights Out TODAY On Seventh Rule

Tuesday, October 28th, 2014

Stoner/doom/noise rock contortionists, WIZARD RIFLE, will bring their cathartic hymns, heavy grooves and walls of distortion to the stage next month for a short run of live takeovers. Set to kick off on November 14th in Phoenix, Arizona at Time Out Lounge, team WIZARD RIFLE will trample their way through nearly a dozen metropolises, with the proceedings coming to a deafening close on November 26th in Brooklyn, New York at Saint Vitus Bar.

The Los Angeles-by-way-of-Portland transplants will be touring in support of their mammoth Here In The Deadlights full-length, out TODAY via Seventh Rule Recordings. Tracked  by guitarist Max Dameron at Breakfast Studio in Los Angeles, then toiled over for a year, with Billy Anderson (Sleep, Eyehategod, Melvins et al) and Jesse Johnstone sharing mixing duties, the album sees WIZARD RIFLE for the first time as a trio featuring Dameron alongside drummer Sam Ford, and bassist David Boe pushing its sound into far sludgier realms and reaching new levels of monolithic heaviness, while maintaining a propulsive groove which spins and twists itself into oblivion. Elaborates Decibel Magazine in their December 2014 issue, “…with Boe’s bass anchoring the compositions, providing a welcome low end that adds obvious heaviness, the music flows much better than it did on the previous album. A song like ‘Paul The Sky Tyrant’ swings with mighty force and grace, while the more progressive, Beefheartian moments (‘Psychodynamo’) and skronky passages (‘Buzzsaw Babes’) are able to show a little more restraint this time around now that the bass can deflect some of the attention. It’s a marvelous step forward – a promising band expanding literally and figuratively, and sounding all the better for it.”

Hear for yourself. Sample “Crystal Witch,” still streaming at Noisey at THIS LOCATION.

WIZARD RIFLE Fall Tour 2014:
11/14/2014 Time Out Lounge – Phoenix, AZ
11/15/2014 Gary’s Place – Tucson, AZ
11/16/2014 Launch Pad – Albuquerque, NM
11/18/2014 Silver Dollar – Texarkana, TX
11/19/2014 Hi Tone – Memphis, TN
11/20/2014 Pilot Light – Knoxville, TN
11/21/2014 The Jinx – Savannah, GA
11/22/2014 Slim’s – Raleigh, NC
11/23/2014 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA
11/25/2014 Kung Fu Necktie – Philadelphia, PA
11/26/2014 Saint Vitus Bar – Brooklyn, NY

With a sound entrenched in a reverence for ‘70s psychedelic and punk, and innumerable contemporary acts without ever feeling like a proverbial retrogression, WIZARD RIFLE seeks to transcend boundaries beyond reference points and obvious nods to rock idols. Still, they’re commonly likened to King Crimson, Lightning Bolt, High On Fire, Misfits, Karp, Melvins, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Sleep and so many others. In 2012 the band released their debut LP Speak Loud Say Nothing to critical adoration on Seventh Rule. Teaming up with Nanotear Booking, they honed their live sound on several US and Canadian tours, sharing the stage with the likes of Yob, Church Of Misery, Black Cobra, Arabrot, Rabbits and Witch Mountain. Last year, the band relocated from Portland to Los Angeles, and immediately started work on the delightfully riff-encased bruiser that is Here In The Deadlights.

Here In The Deadlights is out today on CD and limited red-inside-deep purple colored vinyl via Seventh Rule Recordings. Order your copy NOW at THIS LOCATION. For digital orders point your browser HERE.

“This is music to summon a Daemon of the most fucked up kind and we here at The Sludgelord live for such hellish revelry. Their sound is a constant, incessant explosion of noise, of riffs part High On Fire, Black Sabbath and Sonic Youth, thundering drums and a growling bass that rages through your speakers like a cyclone, ravaging everything in its path. How this band can make such a racket is beyond me…” – The Sludgelord

“The five tracks on hand have seriously punked up WIZARD RIFLE’s attitude while also enhancing the depth of their psychedelic bent. It’s an album seemingly dipping each of its toes in a different genre pool and spinning them all into a homogenous solution that can only be defined by its eclecticism.” – About.com

ANAAL NATHRAKH’s Desideratum Full-Length Drops TODAY In North America Via Metal Blade Records

Tuesday, October 28th, 2014

ANAAL NATHRAKH’s eighth studio offering, Desideratum, is out TODAY in North America via Metal Blade Records. Fittingly christened, “one of the most utterly fearsome and inventive outfits currently operating in the modern extreme metal scene,” by Decibel Magazine, and, “impossibly abrasive and brutal,” by MetalSucks, ANAAL NATHRAKH — guitarist/bassist/programmer Mick Kenney alongside vocalist David Hunt AKA V.I.T.R.I.O.L. — is the sound of chaos incarnate. Entirely petrifying yet inexplicably inviting, the duo’s maniacal musical dexterity, ingenuity and breadth, married with an intensely cynical intelligence is virtually unmatched in the metal world.

Reaping mass approvals from media outlets globally, Desideratum takes the meaning of“extreme” to an entirely new realm of audio bedlam. Metal Injection applauds the twosome for consistently offering up, “their own special breed of terrifying, mixing up grindcore speediness with giant choruses and riffs that are the audible equivalent of total nuclear annihilation,” Noisey boasts of the record, “The snarling vocals of Dave Hunt are the focal point, with the war machine of unrelenting black metal/grind/pseudo-industrial blasts bringing up the rear. ANAAL NATHRAKH’s approach is no mercy ever, apparently,” while About.com notes, “ANAAL NATHRAKH are mesmerized by chaos, whether it be from incoherent screaming or programmed drums that blur into a mess of seismic beats. Even more intriguing are the melodic components thrown into the chaos, like the occasional soaring chorus line or striking guitar lead.” Elsewhere the verdict echoes. AngryMetalGuy dubs Desideratum, ”a statement of malicious intent, a call-to-arms to rally the masses and bring forth Armageddon. Sputnik Music agrees, calling the record, “brutal, precise, and surprisingly accessible,” further commending its, “sure-footed brutality.” Adds Ghost Cult, “ANAAL NATHRAKH have realized the beautifully disgusting union of extremity and massive back-splitting, carcass-gutting hooks.”

If you missed it, get traumatized by the sounds of Desideratum, still streaming in full at Revolver Magazine HERE.

Desideratum was produced by Kenney, with vocals recorded at Necrodeath Studios in Birmingham, and music tracked and mixed at The Black Flamingo in Orange County, California. Order your copy TODAY via Metal Blade at metalblade.com/anaalathrakh.

ANNIHILATED: Extreme Death Metal Architects Plot Global Destruction With XIII Steps To Ruination; Debut Out NOW + New Track Streaming At Ghost Cult

Tuesday, October 28th, 2014

Extreme death metal architects, ANNIHILATED, today drop the audio devastation that is their XIII Steps To Ruination debut, upon North American shores today via Unique Leader.

Produced by ANNIHILATED drummer Scott Fuller, also of Abysmal Dawn, the record hurls forth eleven mutinous, methodically-composed psalms of hate and hostility fueled by political/corporate disgust and societal revulsion. As an added bonus of brutality, XIII Steps To Ruination features guest appearances by Sven De Caluwe (Aborted), Monte Pittman (Prong), Peter Truax (Vesterian, Eyes Of Fire) and Eric Stobel (Plaguereaper, P.O.R.).

Elaborates Glacially Musical, “This album is a full on cacophony of metal but built on perfect timing. The vocals are a chorus. There are always two growls creating an effect of maximum brutality. It kind of sounds like Carcass through a Peavey 5150 amp on the highest gain setting. And it just kills. There are no lulls in this record.” Adds Dead Rhetoric, “ANNIHILATED provide some real ‘kick you in the pants’ material and it’s played with some genuine intensity.”

Get kicked in the pants with opening demoralizer, “Global Enslavement” currently streaming at Ghost Cult HERE.

And if you slept on ‘em, you can still deafen yourself with the venomous ritual of “Eradication Profit,” now playing at Metal Assault HERE or gore your eye holes with some audio/visual carnage of the title track, still playing at Revolver, at THIS LOCATION.

Formed in 2008, ANNIHILATED features within its ranks, current and former members of Abysmal Dawn, Grotesque, Excretion, and Arkaik. Intent on composing music with a purpose, ANNIHILATED stands resolutely against society’s prevalent “sheep mentality” in favor of rational thought, questioning the motives of government and news media outlets though debilitating auditory domination.

XIII Steps To Ruination is out TODAY via Unique Leader Records in North America, October 31st, 2014 in Europe and November 3rd, 2014 in the UK. Order your copy today at THIS LOCATION.

ANCIENT VVISDOM: Occult Death Rock Coven Unleashes “City Of Stone” At Cvlt Nation, Sacrificial LP To Be Released Via Magic Bullet This Tuesday

Thursday, October 23rd, 2014

With the official vinyl version of Sacrificial, the latest full-length from occult death rock coven, ANCIENT VVISDOM, only days away, today Cvlt Nation offers up “City Of Stone.”

Elaborates founding vocalist Nathan Opposition, “I’m a huge fan of classic metal, Dio, Judas Priest, MercYful Fate, so for this song I wanted to pay tribute to that sound ANCIENT VVISDOM style. It has that pace that is easy to bang your head to and a ripping guitar lead during the bridge. The lyrics were inspired by a trip I took with Dwid Hellion [Integrity] to Toward Castle in Scotland, I believe. We were looking for the castle because it linked back to his family lineage. When we discovered the castle ruins it was breath taking. I felt the presence of the ancient grounds we were walking on. It inspired me to write this song. Places like that have power and hold energy, I believe. Do not fear mortality.”

Surmises Cvlt Nation, “Walking through the woods, holding the hands of your yesterday, looking in the eyes of your future – you just might need a soundtrack!”

Visit the “City Of Stone” at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, sink into the sounds of “Chaos Will Reign,” still streaming at Burning Ambulance THIS LOCATION.

Released on CD and digitally via Magic Bullet Records last Tuesday with the wax version set to drop Tuesday, October 28th, ANCIENT VVISDOM’s Sacrificial was produced by Opposition, engineered by Travis Bonner at The Diamond Factory Studios in Austin, mastered by Paul Logus (Anthrax, Clutch, Hellyeah, Shadows Fall et al) at Taloowa Mastering, and continues to push the boundaries of both death rock and neo-folk while retaining the memorable simplicity and melodic catchiness present on their previous, critically-lauded offerings. Hellride Music calls the record, “a vital, unflinching work reflective of their passions and beliefs,” Ghost Cult champions the trio’s, “unorthodox style, enchanting songcraft, and poetic lyrics cloaked in dark rituals and emotion,” while Metal Reviews relays, “Added to the sturdy little melodies they featured in previous albums is a newfound heaviness to hammer them home into the ear, entirely free of classic-rock pretensions that make certain other modern occult rock bands noisome after a while. Sacrificial is a very easy album to love, whether one leans toward metal or just hard rock, and deserves a listen by either kind of fan.”

WIZARD RIFLE: Stoner/Doom/Mathrock Magicians Tease New Track At Noisey; New Full-Length To Drop Next Week

Thursday, October 23rd, 2014

With the release of Here In The Deadlights, the long-awaited new full-length from stoner/doom/math rock magicians, WIZARD RIFLE, now less than one week away, today Noisey hurls forth opening hymn, “Crystal Witch,” for public feeding.

Set for release via Seventh Rule Recordings later this month, the follow-up to 2012’s critically lauded Speak Loud Say Nothing full-length was tracked by guitarist Max Dameron over three weeks at Breakfast Studio in Los Angeles, then toiled over for a year, with Billy Anderson (Sleep, Eyehategod, Melvins et al) and Jesse Johnstone sharing mixing duties. The album sees WIZARD RIFLE for the first time as a trio featuring Dameron alongside drummer Sam Ford, and bassist David Boe pushing its sound into far sludgier realms and reaching new levels of monolithic heaviness, while maintaining a propulsive groove which spins and twists itself into oblivion. In an early assessment of the offering, The Sludgelord gushes, “This is music to summon a Daemon of the most fucked up kind and we here at The Sludgelord live for such hellish revelry. Their sound is a constant, incessant explosion of noise, of riffs part High On Fire, Black Sabbath and Sonic Youth, thundering drums and a growling bass that rages through your speakers like a cyclone, ravaging everything in its path. How this band can make such a racket is beyond me,” while About.com notes in a near perfect rating, “The five tracks on hand have seriously punked up WIZARD RIFLE’s attitude while also enhancing the depth of their psychedelic bent. It’s an album seemingly dipping each of its toes in a different genre pool and spinning them all into a homogenous solution that can only be defined by its eclecticism.”

Elaborates the band of the track being premiered, “‘Crystal Witch’ is about mystical enslavement, a frenzied loss of control in the face of an enamoring tormenter. The music came from some older ideas rehashed and coupled with new passages. The track feels very cinematic to us in it’s pacing and tonal range; from serene to crushing but ever-menacing. Emily Hogg and Kathryne Dameron provide banshee wails, and all band members share vocal duties. It encapsulates a lot of the sounds and themes from the whole album in one concise — by WIZARD RIFLE standards — song.”

Get witchy with Noisey at THIS LOCATION.

With a sound rooted in a reverence for ‘70s psychedelic and punk, and myriad contemporary acts without ever feeling like a throwback, WIZARD RIFLE seeks to push the boundaries beyond reference points and obvious nods to rock idols. Still, they’ve commonly been likened to King Crimson, Lightning Bolt, High On Fire, Misfits, Karp, Melvins, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Sleep and so many others.

Here In The Deadlights will be released on CD and limited red-inside-deep purple colored vinyl via Seventh Rule Recordings on October 28th, 2014. Preorder your copy today at THIS LOCATION.

ANAAL NATHRAKH: Revolver Magazine Streams Ferocious Desideratum Full-Length In Its Entirety

Thursday, October 23rd, 2014

Desideratum is the forthcoming new long player from UK extreme metal misfits, ANAAL NATHRAKH. Applauded for consistently manifesting, “their own special breed of terrifying, mixing up grindcore speediness with giant choruses and riffs that are the audible equivalent of total nuclear annihilation,” by Metal Injection, and crowned, “one of the most utterly fearsome and inventive outfits currently operating in the modern extreme metal scene,” and “aural devastators” by Decibel Magazine, Desideratum takes the definition of the word “extreme” to an entirely new realm of chaos.

In celebration of its official North American release, now less than one week away, today Revolver Magazine offers up a stream of Desideratum in its sinister entirety. Get devastated at THIS LOCATION.

ANAAL NATHRAKH — guitarist/bassist/programmer Mick Kenney alongside vocalist David Hunt AKA V.I.T.R.I.O.L. — replicates the sounds of true evil. With both screaming banshee tirades and traditional vocals set against an dense wall of controlled chaos, what ANAAL NATHRAKH manifests is wholly petrifying yet inexplicably inviting. Hallmarked by crushing musical dexterity, ingenuity and breadth, married with mercurial, intensely misanthropic and sharp intelligence, ANAAL NATHRAKH’s sound is infused with a palpable sense of menace that is virtually unmatched in the metal world. Desideratum was produced by Kenney, with vocals recorded at Necrodeath Studios in Birmingham, and music tracked and mixed at The Black Flamingo in Orange County, California.

Desideratum is slated to detonate on October 28th, 2014 on Metal Blade Records. In the interim, visit metalblade.com/anaalathrakh where you’ll find a host of killer preorder packages.

“The snarling vocals of Dave Hunt are the focal point, with the war machine of unrelenting black metal/grind/pseudo-industrial blasts bringing up the rear. ANAAL NATHRAKH’s approach is no mercy ever, apparently.” – Noisey

ANAAL NATHRAKH are mesmerized by chaos, whether it be from incoherent screaming or programmed drums that blur into a mess of seismic beats. Even more intriguing are the melodic components thrown into the chaos, like the occasional soaring chorus line or striking guitar lead.” – About.com

“Desideratum is a statement of malicious intent, a call-to-arms to rally the masses and bring forth armageddon. ANAAL NATHRAKH continue their brand of grinding merriment, sanity be damned, and they are taking your sorry ass with them. Submit, and revel in the insanity yet again.” – AngryMetalGuy

“Whether you need feral blast beats and psychotic screaming or melodic riffs and epic clean choruses, you’ll find it here in Desideratum.” – Dead Rhetoric

Desideratum is ANAAL NATHRAKH once again throwing down the gauntlet against all the bands who would make a play at being pissed off. It is a calculated butchery of sound that still comes off as intensely raw, and people owe it to themselves to check it out — if only to make every band they considered ‘heavy’ before this seem like a bunch of sissies.” – NoCleanSinging
