SAMOTHRACE Prepare Reverence To Stone For Summer Release

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Doom metal harbingers SAMOTHRACE this week proudly announce the completion of their highly-anticipated second LP.

The new hymns were constructed at Soundhouse Studios in SAMOTHRACE’s hometown of Seattle with producer Brandon Fitzsimmons (ex-Wormwood) at the turn of the year, then mastered at Earhammer by Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Graves At Sea), the finishing touches are being put on the follow-up to the band’s acclaimed Life’s Trade debut. Bearing the title Reverence To Stone, the LP’s two extensive tracks — “When We Emerged” and “A Horse Of Our Own” — engulf nearly thirty-five minutes, presenting the unit’s revered, multi-faceted doom at its most expansive to date.

Stated founding guitarist/vocalist Bryan Spinks on the forthcoming album: “Man, it’s been almost four years since our debut release Life’s Trade, but we are still alive and kicking. We’ve endured some member changes and some definite peaks and valleys in our personal lives, but we are truly stoked to be releasing our second album, Reverence to Stone working again with 20 Buck Spin. We have certainly matured in our playing and writing, but we still worship tone and the heavy. Always have and always will… We thank everyone who has hung in there waiting for something new from us. We’ve done our best not to disappoint.”

On the actual recording process of Reverence To Stone, drummer Joe Axler supplied: “Recording at the legendary Soundhouse Studio in Seattle definitely helped make the tracking come out huge, as did working with Brandon Fitzsimons who is a heavy music veteran. Besides being able to find tones and a density we were 100% happy with we were also able to experiment with noise and extra percussion to round out an album were very excited to have completed.” Added Spinks: “Working with Brandon Fitzsimons was killer. He’s family and it just made for a very relaxed session. He is easy to work with, but also does the right thing by pushing you, in some ways, to do better. I really appreciated his involvement in the process. We kept it in the family, so to speak, and had Greg Wilkinson down at Earhammer master the thing. He got the dynamics perfect and really was able to hone in on the tone. It sounds huge. We are really stoked with the end results!”

Reverence To Stone will see the light of day on CD, LP and digital download on July 31st via Olympia-based 20 Buck Spin, the label also responsible for the release of SAMOTHRACE’s Life’s Trade LP in 2008. Following the release of the new LP the band will take to the road throughout North America. Stay tuned for a glimpse into the auditory surge fans should expect from the new album, more info on the band’s pending tour plans and more in the coming weeks.

NATE HALL: Debut Solo LP From Founding USX Guitarist Out Now

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

A Great River, the debut solo album from doom/psyche masters USX’s founding guitarist NATE HALL, is out today in North America via Neurot Recordings.

Featuring nearly forty minutes of material over ten original numbers, A Great River even further explores the lush bed of Appalachian heritage and songcraft USX has become widely popular for, yet showcases an even more folk and bluegrass influence as well as more expansive, soundscape passages. Fully envisioned and crafted by HALL himself, the album was recorded at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee by Travis Kammeyer. Here the multi-instrumentalist HALL displays his musical abilities by layering multiple styles of guitars, banjo, Theremin and all vocals, outside of keyboards courtesy of Kammeyer on two tracks, resulting in an incredible display of unique, modern Americana. A Great River can be ordered HERE.

NATE HALL will perform material from A Great River at the album’s official CD release show this Saturday, May 12th in Johnson City, Tennessee, with more live performances to be announced in the weeks ahead.

Nate Hall’s A Great River CD Release Show:
5/12/2012 The Hideaway – Johnson City, TN w/ Enoch

“A Great River isn’t so much a bold solo diversion than a natural progression of Hall’s overall musical body of work. He takes to folk and country as effortlessly as the heavy stuff and the mood he captures on these 10 tracks is extraordinary… 8/10″ — Decibel

“…beautiful and lush work of a songwriter beginning what will hopefully be a long journey…” — The Obelisk

“…if you have never longed for a life in the wilderness with nothing but the sounds of wind and trees and an occasional howl of a wolf or coyote in the background, A Great River may not be right for you. Seriously. This is a true vagabond’s album if I know one.” — Sea of Tranquility

“This is the album I have been listening to daily, because with every play, I realize how killer NATE’S voice is, plus he pens some of the best lyrics, word that cut to the bone.” — Cvlt Nation

“Musically A Great River is on the complete opposite of what I usually listen to, but sometimes you come across an album that really resonates with you, regardless of genre or style. Stunning album! 8.5/10″ — This Is Not A Scene

CATTLE DECAPITATION: Monolith Of Inhumanity Out TODAY!

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

CATTLE DECAPITATION’s long-awaited Monolith Of Inhumanity full-length is out TODAY in North America. The 11-track long player is an achievement that stands out as one of the most volatile, ambitious, and impossible-to-pigeonhole records of 2012. Produced by Dave Otero of Denver’s Flatline Audio, Monolith Of Inhumanity sees the band investigating inventive new techniques in songwriting without abandoning their signature formula of confrontational audio wreckage. Conceptually, the record revolves around a potent distaste for contemporary civilization and the damage wrought in the name of progress. In addition, Monolith Of Inhumanity features a host of guests including Mike Majewski of Devourment (guest vocals on “Projectile Ovulation”), Lenard Leal of Cephalic Carnage (backing vocals by on “A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat”), The Cephalic Carnage Community Men’s Choir, consisting of all current Cephalic members and alumni Jawsh Mullen and Zac Joe (gang choir vocals on “The Carbon Stampede”), and ambient and noise interludes by Los Angeles’ most extreme decimator of sound, John Wiese. Order you copy TODAY!

In related news, CATTLE DECAPITATION will crush souls on this Summer’s Shockwave Festival Tour 2012 announced earlier this week. The band will be joined by Fear Factory, Voivod, Misery Index, Revocation, Havok, Dirge Within, Last Chance To Reason, Vildhjarta, The Browning and Forged In Flame. In the meantime, the band is currently bringing their audio pummel to the stage on the Occupation Domination 2012 tour alongside Origin, Decrepit Birth, Aborted, Rings Of Saturn, Battlecross and more!

WINDFAERER To Issue New EP; Cover Art + Track Listing Revealed

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

American blackened metal warriors WINDFAERER will unleash their new EP entitled Solar within the coming weeks. The self-released follow-up to the band’s critically-acclaimed Tribus debut, was recorded with Bobby Torres at Frightbox Recording in Clifton, New Jersey and will include seven tracks of violent beauty laden with elements of black and melodic death metal while exuding a folkloric edge.

Comments guitarist/bassist/vocalist Michael Gonçalves of the record: “Solar is a tribute to the intangible and to those things that make life seem so hopeless, yet beautiful. The title represents a unity of the celestial and infernal forces that govern mankind. Compared to Tribus, the lyrics have become more personal and abstract. Solar is WINDFAERER being a more confident entity.”

Further info on WINDFAERER to be revealed in the coming weeks…

Solar Track Listing:
1. The Mortal Flare
2. A Glimpse of Light
3. Worlds of the Self

INCOMING CEREBRAL OVERDRIVE: New LP Out Now And Streaming via Rock-A-Rolla

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Le Stelle: A Voyage Adrift — the third, explosive LP from Italian riffmanglers INCOMING CEREBRAL OVERDRIVE — is out this week worldwide via Supernatural Cat. In honor of the diverse, damaging new album’s release onto thrill-seeking audiophiles this week, Rock-A-Rolla Magazine is streaming Le Stelle: A Voyage Adrift in its entirety via their official website AT THIS LOCATION.

Showcasing the progressively-charged act’s unique methodological bombast with nearly 50 minutes of unclassifiable aggro-technical metallic thunder, even more focused yet equally as potent as their previous releases, Le Stelle: A Voyage Adrift is an album that elevates the name INCOMING CEREBRAL OVERDRIVE from the cult depths they’ve roamed over recent years, its laser-induced riffs and neck-snapping time signatures will brand the name of the band into the brains of all who endure the journey of the ten tracks on the LP.  Orders for the album can be placed via the Supernatural Cat Store RIGHT HERE.

ICO have recently returned from  a crushing European tour alongside their companions in Ufomammut, and are preparing for more live attacks in the months ahead.

“The band have taken a major stylistic leap forward…the many layers and countless twists and turns making for a dense but enthralling listen…they have to be commended for their skill and vision here.” – Rock A Rolla

“…jammed ear to rear with quirky time changes, intrepid riffing, and heavy bullishness, making it a contemporary yet progressive blend of math rock, hardcore, and sludge.” – Broken Beard

“This is a record for those who like a bit of technicality with their blunt, forceful riffage, there’s enough going on here to warrant a heft of repeated listens, investigate for a challenging and satisfying listen.” – Ninehertz

“This is a record that is enormously demanding in terms of your attention: it bellows at you to stop what you’re doing and invest time with it from aggressive beginning to monolithic end.” – This Is Not A Scene
