“To explain the experience of witnessing De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas live in its entirety would be like trying to discuss the mythos of the cosmos with a hamster. It can’t be done. All one can do is revel in the chaos. Submit to dark forces.” — Metal Injection

Norwegian black metal legends MAYHEM will bring their hymns to Australia this week. The De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Australian trek includes shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Tasmania, and Auckland. Support will be provided by Bölzer, Ruins, Départe, and Earth Rot on select dates with tickets available here: http://soundworksdirect.eventbrite.com.au.

In related MAYHEM news, vocalist Attila Csihar was recently earned the number eleven spot of Loudwire’s Top 25 Extreme Metal Vocalists, the website writing, “Each MAYHEM vocalist has left his stamp on metal’s perhaps most infamous band, but none have been more impactful than Attila Csihar. His efforts on the band’s groundbreaking De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas debut added a layer of fog to the album’s ghastly atmosphere with an out of body experience performance….”

The cornerstone De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas was listed among Revolver Magazine’s 20 Essential Black Metal Albums while the record earned the #40 spot on Rolling Stone Magazine’s 100 Greatest Metal Albums Of All Time. Further illuminating the keystone offering, the band self-released De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Alive late 2016 on CD, DVD, LP, and digitally. Captured in Norrköping, Sweden in 2015 during the band’s headlining set at the Black Christmass Festival, the show marked MAYHEM‘s first time ever playing De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in full.

“…Mysteriis… remains a singularly potent document, its expressions of alienation and nihilism lent an icy severity by Aarseth’s lacerating guitar buzz, session vocalist Attila Csihar’s arcane croak and presentation of Dead’s lyrical gothic terror and the pummeling drums of Hellhammer.” – Rolling Stone

MAYHEM‘s live set is palpably evil, guided by the deranged vocal presence of Attila Csihar, who gave an unnerving performance on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas…” – Loudwire

MAYHEM are a band that remind us of the power of the live concert experience, morphing concert into macabre ceremony…” – BeatRoute

“…this band delivers raw, blasphemous black metal from Norway like nobody else can with a stage performance that rivals any live act in existence.” — SoCal Music Today

“…sonically, technically and vocally they sounded perfect. With strobe lights rapidly flashing behind the hellish cloaked figures on the banners, devil-horned hands are held high as a sign of respect for the band’s sacrifice to their fans.” — Shockwave

“There are no added extras, there are no fan treats, for this performed is a treat in itself. A treat that still to this very day is as evil and bitter sounding as it gets…” – The Revival Music

“…a total sell-out [performance]. Tonight highlighted the fact that the one main aspect of the band that remains the most positive and defining is their music. Even after some twenty-three years, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas was and still is an album that metal fans of all ages crave to see live.” – Metal Wani

“…convincing evidence that the grim magic of the mid-’90s has faded not one corpse-painted jot.” – The Guardian
