This week, Detroit-based progressive rock royals, TILES, will take off on their Spring Northeastern tour in support of their star-studded Pretending 2 Run 2xCD, which was released last month via Laser’s Edge. From this Friday, May 13th, TILES will tour through Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Dunellen, New York, and Akron through May 20th, sharing the stage on all dates with labelmates, District 97.

Produced by Terry Brown (Rush, Fates Warning) and bearing artwork by Hugh Syme (Iron Maiden, Rush, Dream Theater), TILES Pretending 2 Run is unquestionably the band’s most ambitious project to date. Containing just short of one hundred minutes of music, the epic recording sees the band pushing their musical boundaries into new dimensions, and features a remarkable collection of guest musicians, including the first recorded father-and-son collaboration with Mike Portnoy (Winery Dogs, Dream Theater) and his son Max Portnoy (Next To None), Mike Stern (Miles Davis), Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Adam Holzman (Steven Wilson Band), Kim Mitchell (Max Webster), Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree), Kevin Chown (Tarja Turunen, Chad Smith), Matthew Parmenter (Discipline), Mark Mikel (Pillbugs), Joe Deninzon (Stratospheerius), and more.

Critical acclaim for Pretending 2 Run continues to pour in from media outlets including Progression Magazine, who offers in part of their 4/5 review, “This album clearly sounds as if it took years to make. ‘Shelter In Place,’ the song TILES used to generate pre-release excitement for Pretending 2 Run, ranks as one of the strongest, most memorable tunes in the band’s catalog.” Sea Of Tranquility crowned the album with a 4.5/5, the critique including, “the band have crafted a storyline that flows quite nicely thanks to plenty of musical variety; one minute there is a calming jazzy sax soaring over gentle rhythms, and the next some bruising, complex metallic prog rattles the foundation. It’s a wild ride from start to finish for sure. In a year when we’ve seen two longtime prog veterans, Dream Theater & TILES, release lengthy concept albums, I have to give TILES the nod as the more successful of the two…” Music Connection’s review includes, “with their first album for Laser’s Edge, they’ve upped the ante by giving the listener a double disc with an engaging storyline, meticulously arranged string and choral pieces, sweet vocal harmonies and tuneful jam-based rock, fusion and world beat sounds,” and About.com gave the record a 4/5, offering in part, “Cuts cover the entire gamut of the prog rock genre, from sweeping orchestral pieces to pulsating, grooving heaviness, with some clever French spoken-word interludes to top it off. Pretending 2 Run gives prog rock fans everything they could want in a big album.”

Pretending 2 Run is out now worldwide through Laser’s Edge; physical orders can be placed HERE and digital HERE.
