NATE HALL: Debut Solo LP From Founding USX Guitarist Out Now

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

A Great River, the debut solo album from doom/psyche masters USX’s founding guitarist NATE HALL, is out today in North America via Neurot Recordings.

Featuring nearly forty minutes of material over ten original numbers, A Great River even further explores the lush bed of Appalachian heritage and songcraft USX has become widely popular for, yet showcases an even more folk and bluegrass influence as well as more expansive, soundscape passages. Fully envisioned and crafted by HALL himself, the album was recorded at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee by Travis Kammeyer. Here the multi-instrumentalist HALL displays his musical abilities by layering multiple styles of guitars, banjo, Theremin and all vocals, outside of keyboards courtesy of Kammeyer on two tracks, resulting in an incredible display of unique, modern Americana. A Great River can be ordered HERE.

NATE HALL will perform material from A Great River at the album’s official CD release show this Saturday, May 12th in Johnson City, Tennessee, with more live performances to be announced in the weeks ahead.

Nate Hall’s A Great River CD Release Show:
5/12/2012 The Hideaway – Johnson City, TN w/ Enoch

“A Great River isn’t so much a bold solo diversion than a natural progression of Hall’s overall musical body of work. He takes to folk and country as effortlessly as the heavy stuff and the mood he captures on these 10 tracks is extraordinary… 8/10″ — Decibel

“…beautiful and lush work of a songwriter beginning what will hopefully be a long journey…” — The Obelisk

“…if you have never longed for a life in the wilderness with nothing but the sounds of wind and trees and an occasional howl of a wolf or coyote in the background, A Great River may not be right for you. Seriously. This is a true vagabond’s album if I know one.” — Sea of Tranquility

“This is the album I have been listening to daily, because with every play, I realize how killer NATE’S voice is, plus he pens some of the best lyrics, word that cut to the bone.” — Cvlt Nation

“Musically A Great River is on the complete opposite of what I usually listen to, but sometimes you come across an album that really resonates with you, regardless of genre or style. Stunning album! 8.5/10″ — This Is Not A Scene

SIX FEET UNDER: New Track Premiere Hosted By Metal Hammer Germany

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Today Metal Hammer Germany is hosting an exclusive premiere of “Frozen At The Moment Of Death,” from death metal tyrants SIX FEET UNDER. The track comes off the band’s Undead full-length set for North American release on May 22, 2012 through Metal Blade Records. Commented growl king Chris Barnes of the release: “Creating an album is a lot of work and a lot of focus, but we didn’t really have too many hiccups in the recording. It went really smooth, and it was pretty much the most effortless album we’ve ever tracked. I had a great, great time working on this album; it was so much fun because everything seemed so new again.”

Surf over to Metal Hammer to check out “Frozen At The Moment Of Death,” the third official single from Undead at THIS LOCATION.

Undead was produced by Mark Lewis (Deicide, Devildriver), mixed by Jason Suecof (Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy), at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, Florida and features the updated lineup of Barnes alongside guitarist Rob Arnold (ex- Chimaira), longtime guitarist Steve Swanson (ex-Massacre), bassist Jeff Hughell (ex-Brain Drill, ex-Vile), and drummer Kevin Talley (Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Chimaira). Metal Blade TV recently aired an exclusive interview with Barnes as conducted by label CEO Brian Slagel. In conjunction with the release of Undead, SIX FEET UNDER will demolish the masses on a near three-week run of live rituals this June. The 18 Nights Of Blood Tour will begin in Atlanta, Georgia on June 8. Support will be provided by Dying Fetus and Revocation.

CATTLE DECAPITATION: Album Streaming In Its Entirety At MetalSucks

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Today MetalSucks will help you kick off your weekend in veggie-gorging progressive grind style with an exclusive stream of CATTLE DECAPITATION’s Monolith Of Inhumanity. Set for a North American release on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, the 11-track long player is an achievement that stands out as one of the most volatile, ambitious, and impossible-to-pigeonhole records of 2012.

Produced by Dave Otero of Denver’s Flatline Audio, Monolith Of Inhumanity sees the band investigating inventive new techniques in songwriting without abandoning their signature formula of confrontational audio wreckage. Conceptually, the record revolves around a potent distaste for contemporary civilization and the damage wrought in the name of progress. In addition, Monolith Of Inhumanity features a host of guests including Mike Majewski of Devourment (guest vocals on “Projectile Ovulation”), Lenard Leal of Cephalic Carnage (backing vocals by on “A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat”), The Cephalic Carnage Community Men’s Choir, consisting of all current Cephalic members and alumni Jawsh Mullen and Zac Joe (gang choir vocals on “The Carbon Stampede”), and ambient and noise interludes by Los Angeles’ most extreme decimator of sound, John Wiese.

Sear your eardrums HERE.

In related news, CATTLE DECAPITATION will crush souls on this Summer’s Shockwave Festival Tour 2012 announced earlier this week. The band will be joined by Fear Factory, Voivod, Misery Index, Revocation, Havok, Dirge Within, Last Chance To Reason, Vildhjarta, The Browning and Forged In Flame. Tickets are on sale TODAY at THIS LOCATION.

Comments vocalist Travis Ryan: “It’s been a great start of the year for us what with the new album already getting great reviews from fans and press and all, but we’re very excited for the announcement of this kick ass USA tour. It marks our return to Canadian soil after a three- year absence and is looking to be an extremely heavy hitter. Very honored to be asked by the Shockwave Festival to be a part of it!”

In the meantime, the band is currently bringing their audio pummel to the stage on the Occupation Domination 2012 tour alongside Origin, Decrepit Birth, Aborted, Rings Of Saturn, Battlecross and more!

BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS Let Loose New Noise Via Brooklyn Vegan

Friday, May 4th, 2012

As Negative Black,  the monolithic third LP from Germany’s BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS oozes towards North American release, the band today proudly drops the third track from the album on the public today. Witness the sheer aural pulverization of this band through one of the “shorter songs on the album,” by streaming the near-eight-minute-long “60WV” AT BROOKLYN VEGAN.

Recently the band released the album’s second track “400H” which can still be streamed VIA TERRORIZER.

Having just returned from a successful tour of Germany, BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS will continue to book new events throughout Europe and beyond in the months ahead in support of Negative Black. Footage of the band performing the track “14D” from the new album live in Athens can be viewed below.

Set for North American release on June 5th, the band’s first release for the eclectic Exile On Mainstream label, Negative Black surges with nearly eighty minutes of mammoth, slow-motion BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS sludge/doom savagery. Recorded at the mighty Tonmeisterei Studio, Negative Black — an album four years in the making — marks a new step for the band, carving a path into their foreseeable future. While the outfit already bears the reputation for unfurling some of the most destructive but still coherently-flowing sludge metal available, incorporating outside elements of crust, black metal and soundscape persuasion at times, Negative Black surges to even deeper caverns of auditory obliteration, pummeling you with painfully slow doom and finishing you off with acrid, harsh drones, and giving down-tempo a whole new meaning.

AMENRA Enter Studio; Neurot Recordings Debut Begins To Take Shape

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Neurot Recordings proudly announce that AMENRA have entered the studio this week to record their fourth full-length, Mass V.

Producing the record is the brilliant Billy Anderson (Eyehategod, Neurosis, Om, Swans, etc.) and for the setting, La Chapelle, an old chapel now turned professional studio, in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes. For AMENRA this is the ideal ground to record Mass V, their “heaviest and slowest album to this day” as per vocalist Colin Van Eeckhout. He continues to reveal how this record was “the hardest one for us to write and record, it nearly killed us. it’s the album we said we were never going to write.” Expect an absolutely crushing release from them later this year on their new home, Neurot Recordings.

As previously reported, Neurot Recordings founder and Neurosis guitarist/vocalist Steve Von Till commented “I am eagerly awaiting the sonically induced spirit quest that will be Mass V at the Church of Ra.” – and so are we!

AMENRA will gladly be interviewed about this recording process so if you are interested, please do not hesitate to get in touch and you can expect more rituals from the Church of Ra in the coming months.

Check out this promotional video for the band’s Russian and Ukranian tour which kicks off on May 16th in St Petersburg:
