ATRIARCH: Ceremonial Death/Doom Ensemble Unveils New Hymn Via Cvlt Nation; West Coast Live Rituals Confirmed

Monday, September 29th, 2014

Ceremonial death/doom ensemble, ATRIARCH, today unveils the slow brooding audio treachery of “Allfather.”

The towering new hymn comes by way of the band’s third full-length and first under the Relapse Record banner, An Unending Pathway. Recorded at Type Foundry in Portland, Oregon, produced by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Eyehategod, Melvins et al) and the band, engine-eared and mixed by Anderson at Everything Hz, also in Portland, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege, on An Unending Pathway, ATRIARCH delivers catharsis through sonic ritual, churning an otherworldly fusion of death rock, doom, black metal, post punk and psychedelic drone/noise, their haunting atmospheres and avalanches of chest-heaving sludge at once compelling and overwhelming. Imagine Bauhaus as interpreted by Eyehategod, or Sisters of Mercy filtered through Neurosis, and only then can you begin to grasp the darkness that is ATRIARCH.

Relays Cvlt Nation: “An Unending Pathway, is an arresting and welcome combination of doom metal, death rock, black metal, and Mid Eastern-influenced darkwave sounds…. this LP is a well-produced and masterful synthesis of its differing components. It sounds confident and assured, a definite step forward in ATRIARCH’s sonic progression. In fact, I think it’s ATRIARCH’s best and most cohesive-sounding LP to date… singer Lenny Smith’s deadpan, chanting-like vocals rise to the fore, echoing as if sung from the depths of a musty Egyptian tomb. Tribal-type drumming underscores the building intensity, and halfway through the track the band switches gears and Smith begins to sound like Rozz Williams, with the band picking up speed and fury around him.”

Feel the cold audio decay of “Allfather” now playing at Cvlt Nation at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, check out the haunting resonance of “Collapse” via Soundcloud at THIS LOCATION or YouTube HERE.

In related ATRIARCH news, the band will bring their ceremonials to the stage this November on a West Coast run of live dates. Scheduled to kick off November 7th in Seattle, the band will traumatize thirteen cities through November 21st. See confirmed shows below.

LORD MANTIS: “Possession Prayer” Video Under Construction + October Tour With Today Is The Day Announced; 2xLP Version Of Death Mask Out Now

Thursday, September 25th, 2014

The demoralizing Chicagoan collective, LORD MANTIS, is currently immersed in the construction of their first official video, which is sure to be a disturbing and uncomforting visual experience. Directed, shot, and currently being edited by Brooklyn-based Gretchen Heinel — known for recent videos for industrialists Statiqbloom, Batillus and Theologian — and produced by Profound Lore Records and New Density, the video is being created for the mechanical and uncomfortable track “Possession Prayer” from LORD MANTIS’ third LP, Death Mask. In the tradition of their output and track record, according the band, “the video will likely not meet YouTube guidelines due to explicit content.” Stand by for the video to be presented upon its completion this Fall. Several screen shots from the video have been released below.

Following its official CD and digital release via Profound Lore at the end of April, Death Mask now sees deluxe vinyl release via New Density, the label founded by LORD MANTIS guitarist Andrew Markuszewski, also of Avichi. Engineered at Electrical Audio and Soma studios by Sanford Parker, mixed at Hypercube and mastered by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room, Death Mask features artwork by Jef Whitehead (Leviathan, Lurker of Chalice) and layout duties handled by Chimère Noire. The massive 2xLP platter comes on 180-gram wax in an array of colors, including a traditional black run in addition to limited runs of 150 copies on silver/black splatter and 50 on gold/black splatter, and housed in a matte deluxe gatefold sleeve. Orders are now live through New Density HERE.

While the East Coast still recovers from their Summer tour to Martyrdoom Fest in NYC with Hell Militia, LORD MANTIS has been confirmed as direct support for the visionary Today Is The Day in October. The three-week run carves a clockwise smile in the country, beginning in the Northeast, diving south to the Gulf Coast and then up the West Coast, then back down into the Southeast between October 7th and 25th. Stand by as the final venues are locked and additional LORD MANTIS live actions are announced.

MAID MYRIAD: MetalSucks Releases New Single From With Haste On Its Breath; Debut Album From Ohio Kaleidoscope Rock Act Nears October Release

Thursday, September 25th, 2014

Akron, Ohio-based kaleidoscope rock act, MAID MYRIAD, will release their mesmerizing debut full-length, With Haste On Its Breath, in less than two weeks, and today, the crew who runs MetalSucks’ online domain has premiered the album’s third track,Be Careful What You Wish For.”

Slowly uncoiling, building from a gentle, theatrical intro into an explosive modern rock masterpiece by the end, Be Careful What You Wish For” is just an example of MAID MYRIAD’s awesome dexterity displayed on the moving twelve-song With Haste On Its Breath. The trio fuses an endless array of genres into a unique, hook-strewn rock amalgam of their own, and on the album, creates an hour-long opus that is as beautiful as it is contagious. Alongside their exclusive stream of Be Careful What You Wish For,” MetalSucks states the track, “might be described as ‘Coheed-esque’ — it’s massive, melodic, introspective, and tortured, like a wonderful dream that quickly metamorphasizes into the kind of nightmare that continues to rattle and haunt you even after you awaken, stuck to your psyche like gum to the bottom of a shoe. Little wonder we became so smitten with the song from the moment we heard it!”

Listen to Be Careful What You Wish For” now at via MetalSucks at THIS LOCATION.

American Aftermath is also hosting the album-opening “Encircled” right HERE.

With Haste On Its Breath will see a six-panel digipak CD and digital release October 7th via Nefarious Industries, the independent label founded by members of MAID MYRIAD, A Fucking Elephant, El Drugstore and more, and the home of a bunch of big, dumb noise. Preorders for the album are available, with several different bundles, all of which include an instant download of “Encircled”. Check it out HERE.

MAID MYRIAD’s record release show for With Haste On Its Breath is scheduled to take place in Kent, Ohio next Saturday, October 4th, at which the band will perform the entire new album just days before its release on the 7th. Additional live and tour actions from the band will be announced for the coming months shortly.

MAID MYRIAD Live:
10/04/2014 The Kent Stage – Kent, OH *CD RELEASE w/ Simeon Soul Charger [info]

JCK solo:
9/26/2014 Southgate House Revival – Newport, KY w/ Nate Dodge & Andra Taylor [info]

MAID MYRIAD was founded by guitarist, singer, and songwriter, Jeff Klemm (ex-Via Lotus) and drummer Greg Meisenberg (A Fucking Elephant), the duo now joined by bassist Mario Tonathy. Bursting with influences from a gamut of rock subgenres, the band’s sound unifies elements of Thursday, Sunny Day Real Estate the late 1990s post-hardcore/emo circuit, massive alternative rock elements of Dredg, later Cave In and the mellowest aspects of the Dillinger Escape Plan’s more recent works, creative drive which brings to mind The Mars Volta, A Perfect Circle and Mike Patton, all seamlessly honed and brought to vibrant life with a passionate, dynamic, clean vocal delivery. Recorded in both Akron, Ohio, and Keyport, New Jersey, produced and engineered by guitarist Jeff Klemm at Free Truman Productions, and then mixed and mastered by Kevin Antreassian at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Adrenaline Mob, Foxy Shazam, etc.), the artwork and layout for With Haste On Its Breath was handled by Eric Nyffeler at Doe-Eyed (East Of The Wall, A Fucking Elephant).

INTERNAL BLEEDING: NYC Death Metallers Premiere New Tune Via Cvlt Nation; Carnival Of Death Tour Draws Near + Enter To Win ShowUsYourSlam Contest!

Thursday, September 25th, 2014

With the release of Imperium, the first new album in over a decade from New York City-based death metal institution, INTERNAL BLEEDING, now less than one week away, the gate keepers at Cvlt Nation are pleased to spew forth the debilitating rumble of the eighth cut, “Placate The Ancients.”

Comments bassist Jay Liff of the tune, “‘Placate The Ancients’ has kind of an old-school INTERNAL BLEEDING vibe to it — I think that’s because of how the song flows from one riff to the next. It always reminds me of some of the band’s demos from the 1990s. The riff and tempo changes are pretty dramatic in parts, yet they still have that patented IB groove that flows through it all. I think that’s the key to this song; the flow.”

Get brutal with “Placate The Ancients” at THIS LOCATION.

Produced by the band and Joe Cincotta at Full Force Studio (Suffocation, Dehumanized, Mortal Decay) in Ronkonkoma, New York and engineered by Cincotta and Derek Boyer, Imperium serves as the band’s most inexorable and enraged output to date delivering ten sonically pulverizing tracks including a trilogy featuring guest appearances by Suffocation’s Terrance Hobbs and Frank Mullen as well as former INTERNAL BLEEDING throat Frank Rini. The Sludgelord hails, “There’s a charisma and personality in an album like Imperium and in a band like INTERNAL BLEEDING that is simply absent in so much of the brutal, technical or slamming death metal that’s put out there these days…This is an album worth going out of your way to hear,” Dead Rhetoric dubs the record, “a massive slab of slamming death metal, but done with some actual intellect,” furthering , “time changes, solos? Who knew these could all be accomplished within the slam playbook? Ahh, that’s right, these guys are the ones who originally wrote that book,” while Angry Metal Guy adds, “It’s inspiring to hear one of the bands that pioneered a genre almost a quarter of a century ago stretch it into new and refreshing territories.”

In conjunction with the official descent of Imperium, INTERNAL BLEEDING will crumble stages across North America as part of this year’s Carnival Of Death gala. Slated to embark on October 3rd, 2014 in New York City, the tour will leave nearly two-dozen cities in ruin, coming to a close on November 3rd, 2014, in Montreal. The band will be joined by with Suffocation, Kataklysm, Jungle Rot and Pyrexia.

Additionally, INTERNAL BLEEDING is currently hosting a “Show Us Your Slam” contest! Simply post a picture of yourself on your FaceBook wall showing off your favorite INTERNAL BLEEDING swag and include the hashtag #SHOWUSYOURSLAM for your chance to win a prize pack including two VIP guest list tickets to a Carnival Of Death tour date of your choice and a music and merch Imperium pack courtesy of Unique Leader Records! Drawing will be held on September 30th, 2014, the day of Imperium’s release.

CDC: Pennsylvania Hardcore Act Confirms European Autumn Tour; New Release Scheduled For Early 2015

Thursday, September 25th, 2014

Lansdale, Pennsylvania-based hardcore outfit, CDC, has announced the band’s upcoming return to the European continent next month on a two week tour.

CDC is known for doing everything DIY to the core, having toured to almost every corner of the planet over the past decade — playing in the vicinity of forty countries to date, including Madagascar, South Africa, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Israel, Turkey, and most of southeast Asia — without a booking agent or manager. Their streetwise, outspoken style is forged on heavy grooves and a unique layering of vocal parts and tones, unifying hardened founders of the genre like Warzone, Merauder, Inside Out, 100 Demons and Bulldoze with the more modern persuasion of E.Town Concrete, Alpha & Omega and Incendiary.

Initially formed as a studio project in 2003 with members hailing from Southeastern Pennsylvania towns Lansdale, Doylestown, and Perkasie, with an instant local buzz surrounding them, CDC began playing shows all over the East Coast and released several smaller releases over the next five years. In 2009, CDC took everything to the next level, releasing their five-song Burn EP on Filled With Hate Records, at the same time beginning to tour extensively across the globe. Since 2010 the band has been mildly dormant, only surfacing every couple months to play a hand full of shows and a few scattered tours throughout the years.

However, earlier this year CDC recorded five new tracks with Vince Ratti at Skylight Studios and mastered by Will Yip at Studio 4, now coming together for release at the beginning of 2015 in the form of the End, their first new release since 2009. End will come out as a split label release between European label Beatdown Hardwear and Pennsylvania-based Get This Right Records, which is partially owned/operated by CDC drummer John Bowes, the band’s current lineup also still including original members, vocalist Brooke Schwartz and guitarist Brendan Hagey, with John Lowe from Rock Bottom filling in as live bassist. More intel on the material, pressing and release date of End will be available shortly.

In the meantime, CDC is knocking the dust off of their heavy touring gear and is currently locking down the final info for their return to Europe on tour this Fall. From October 15th through November 2nd the band will crush across the continent, at press time scheduled to hit Iceland, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Germany, Holland, England, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany. A finalized routing will be announced in the coming days.

Joining them again on production duties is Nick Raskulinecz, who, since being introduced to Dave Grohl during the recording sessions of Flower Of Disease, has gone on to work with seminal artists such as Rush, Alice in Chains, Deftones and Ghost, and has won Grammys with the Foo Fighters. United again, he and the band are sure to serve a menacing cut of the time-honored ultra-heavy rock they are infamous for.

GOATSNAKE came to life in 1996, and released two EPs, two LPs, two 7″ records and a split between 1998 and 2000. In 2010 they returned as a live band, playing a handful of well-received shows in the US and Europe in the years since.

More details of the upcoming album will be announced soon. Fans will be able to catch GOATSNAKE live at several confirmed live events, including the upcoming Southern Lord showcase in LA on October 15th with Excel, Xibalba, Obliterations, Baptists and Torch Runner, followed by a Friday night headlining set at Southwest Terror Fest III: The Western Front, on October 17th, joined by Godhunter and labelmates Eagle Twin and Pelican. EXCEL: California Hardcore/Thrash Crossover Crew Launches Official Store; Preview Tracks For Southern Lord Reissue Of Split Image Playing

Wednesday, September 24th, 2014

Next week, California hardcore/thrash metal crossover band, EXCEL, will reissue their debut album Split Image via Southern Lord, and to mark the occasion, an official online store has been launched, and several tracks from the remastered classic album are now streaming.

Originally released through Suicidal and Caroline records and produced by Randy Burns (Death, Possessed, Megadeth, Kreator, Suicidal Tendencies), EXCEL’s Split Image is widely regarded as a classic album. This Southern Lord reissue has been remastered by Brad Boatright (Bl’ast!, Sleep, Obituary, Black Breath) and comes with a massive amount of bonus material including the Welcome to Venice comp tracks, Personal Onslaught DemoRefuse to Quit Demo). The LP Includes a 32 page 7”X7” booklet with tons of photos from the era and a 11” x 17” poster of the original Michael Seiff album cover artwork. The CD contains bonus demo material (Personal OnslaughtRefuse to Quit Demos), the booklet containing many rare and previously unreleased photos. A crucial documentation of an essential crossover band.

Check out the official EXCEL store with multiple package options HERE and preview three of the remastered tracks from Split Image HERE.

Having formed in 1984, EXCEL released three studio albums as well as a number of demos and singles.  Equally informed by punk rock’s attitude and heavy metal’s riffs, the band’s fast, grinding sounds, combined with their intelligent lyrics, set them apart as a genre defining band of the era. The current lineup — Dan Clements on vocals, Shaun Ross on bass, Mike Cosgrove on drums and Alex Barreto (Chain Of Strength) on guitar — will play the Southern Lord Recordings showcase on October 15th in Los Angeles with Goatsnake, Xibalba, Obliterations, Baptists and Torch Runner, and their first South American appearance on October 25th at the Clash Club in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Maybe there is life in Venice, CA, that doesn’t involve the beach; iron pumpers and Suicidal Tendencies, since that’s all you seem to hear about. Yes? Of course, there is always EXCEL! Their demos were major impression sessions and now with the release of their first album “Split Image”, the direction of EXCEL is officially exposed. Combining a rabble-rousing attack of metal with deep hardcore roots, the outcome is thick and heavy with sudden excursions into the rapids. b is definitely brick material, hard and sturdy. Not suffering from snare core, they advance with sonic power and creep forth with an awesome fatness.“ - Pushead – Thrasher Magazine #2, 1988

USNEA: Sophomore LP From Portland Doom Quartet Nears November Release Through Relapse Records; New Track Streaming

Wednesday, September 24th, 2014

Having signed Portland, Oregon based funeral doom/death quartet, UNSEA, earlier this year, Relapse Records is now preparing the band’s monstrous sophomore LP for descent onto the population in mid-November.

Formed in 2011, perpetuating a severely crushing style of black/occult metal-influenced funeral doom, with a majestic epic quality to their movements, USNEA quickly caught the attention of those who seek the most crushing and demoralizing bands of the genre, bringing to mind Disembowelment, Indian, Mournful Congregation, Pallbearer, Lycus, Thou and Loss. Through merely a self-titled, two-track on Orca Wolf Records at the beginning of 2013, and a split 7” with Ruins through Halo Of Flies in mid-2014 in their short but bountiful lifespan thus far, USNEA has amassed a plethora of incredible media coverage and devotee support, leaving countless fans awaiting the next major step for the band.

Today, USNEA unveils the full details of their awaited second full-length LP, which now comes as their debut for Relapse Records, a four-song sonic masterpiece, entitled Random Cosmic Violence. Blending the sounds of the doom forefathers like Disembowelment and My Dying Bride with the gritty sludge of High On Fire, USNEA has created a classic of the new millennium. Recorded and mixed by Jared “Fester” See at Haywire Studios (Stoneburner, Rabbits, Drunk Dad) who supplies additional guitars to the title track, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Yob, High On Fire, Integrity), the artwork and design was handled by Justin Cory and Orion Landau.

Relapse has issued a single from Random Cosmic Violence, releasing the second track “Healing Through Death” via SoundCloud HERE and YouTube HERE.

Pulsating with tribal intensity, Random Cosmic Violence is one of those rare records which elevates itself above the boundaries that its genre typically self-imposes. Yes, this is a mighty heavy piece of sludge-laden funeral doom, but the musicality and songcraft exhibited throughout the entirety of Random Cosmic Violence immediately place USNEA not just at the forefront of the blossoming American doom scene, but at the tops of heavy music altogether.

Now set for release on CD, digital and both colored/limited and standard black 2xLP on November 7th in Germany/Benelux/Finland and November 10th in North America and the rest of the world, preorders for Random Cosmic Violence can be placed on physical versions HERE and digital HERE.

Stand by for additional news and audio from Random Cosmic Violence as well as new tour dates from USNEA in the days ahead.
