Following a mega successful run of live takeovers last summer supporting Philip H. Anselmo And The Illegals, AUTHOR & PUNISHER sound manipulator, Tristan Shone, is pleased to pack up his steel and unite with Anselmo and company for another mutinous round of sonic abrasions.
Just in time to ring in the New Year, the second leg of the Technicians Of Distortion Tour will commence on January 10th in Houston, Texas and head westward, trampling through over a dozen cities with additional support provided by Hymns. Shone also has a few new mechanized surprises to unveil. Comments Shone: “West Coast: I will be unveiling a new set of electromechanical vocal manipulation masks and devices, never before used during a tour as well as some new and old tracks.” You are hereby warned.
As a precursor to the Technicians Of Distortion trek, AUTHOR & PUNISHER will join the audio antagonists in Corrections House for two special performances in Los Angeles and San Diego. See confirmed live actions below.

AUTHOR & PUNISHER continues to tour in support of the colossal Women & Children full-length, released earlier this year via Seventh Rule Recordings. Relying on cold steel and soulless machinery to replicate dejection, hopelessness and earthly doom, Shone utilizes primarily custom designed and fabricated machines, speakers and various devices that draw heavily on aspects of industrial automation and robotics and focuses upon the eroticism of the interaction with the machine. The machines are designed to require significant force from the performer, aligning he/she with the plodding doom-influenced sounds that are created. Shone’s results transcend beyond the traditional confines of the industrial genre however into a dimension far more cold and grim.
Metal Injection calls the record a, “powerful and chilling piece of music,” further elaborating that, “Tristan Shone demonstrates the same talent for crafting harsh yet melodic songs that Trent Reznor possesses; the slavering ugliness and sci-fi horror atmosphere recalls Skinny Puppy; the sparse futurism and twitchy mechanical grind is reminiscent of Gridlock; and Shone, with his homemade electronic contraptions, has to at least be considered a spiritual successor to Einstürzende Neubauten. Art isn’t created in a vacuum, and the fact that AUTHOR & PUNISHER has some things in common with other bands doesn’t diminish that fact that Women & Children is a colossal album.” Stereogum applauds Women & Children noting, “Shone’s apocalyptic noise blends elements of industrial, doom, and dubstep, and contorts that mass into some chilling, unrecognizable form…,” Sputnik Music commends, “…an all-consuming trip into the realm of mental destruction that amazes with its potent use of musical machinery… Both greatly daring and innovative, the record is destined to be one of the most coveted underground releases of the year,” while MetalSucks recalls the AUTHOR & PUNISHER live experience to be “extremely loud, bass-heavy, powerful and industrial, calling to mind Godflesh-gone-‘roidal.” Cvlt Nation crowns Shone, “the perfect blend of man and machine; a musical cyborg locked into a rig that is both dark and twisted. Shone crafts a truly dense and unbridled set of doom and drove-inspired music, all of which is accompanied by a visceral, emotionally-rich live performance.” Adds Pitchfork, “Traces of doom, dubstep, industrial, noise, and honest-to-goodness pop show up within Shone’s best songs. His music is immediate but mysterious, a chimera that’s recognizable but strange.”

“…a powerful and chilling piece of music…” – Metal Injection
“AUTHOR & PUNISHER have somehow managed to create an industrial album that is not just destructive, but also has its emotive side. With this alchemy of the machinists, it might just be that in Tristan Shone we have found a new stratospheric colossus of sound.” – Scene Point Blank
“Women & Children is a record that wants to hurt you and never stops probing your psyche for a weak spot.” – Exclaim
“…a remarkably bleak and sinister record that explores the depressive and psychedelic in entirely new ways.” – HeavyBlogIsHeavy
