HOD Added To Chaos In Tejas Fest

Friday, May 24th, 2013

San Antonio blackened death horde HOD were recently added to the annual Chaos In Tejas fest supporting death metal icons, Benediction. The assault will take place on May 30th at Red 7 [inside stage] in Austin, Texas. Bodies will be mangled. Souls will be torn.

Comments the band: “We look forward to smashing your skulls and burning your souls all weekend long. Everyone get you asses to Texas and raise some hell! We also will be playing in San Antonio on June 1 with Abigail and Speedwolf at the Korova. So as you can see it will be an insane weekend for the state of Texas.”

HOD Live Assaults 2013:
5/30/2013 Chaos in Tejas @ Red 7 [inside] – Austin, TX w/ Benediction, Power Trip, Bitter End Pinkish Black [more info]
6/01/2013 The Korova – San Antonio, TX w/Abigail (Japan), Speedwolf, Full Of Hell, Gehenna, Sturmgewehr
6/29/2013 Fitzgerald’s – Houston, TX w/ Dead Horse
11/12/2013 Limelight – San Antonio, TX w/ Witchtrap

HOD recently unleashed three new hymns of iniquity in by way of The Uncreated Demo. Recorded by Dennis Munoz (Solstice) and Stuart “Batlord” Laurence (Agony Column/Ignitor) The Uncreated Demo features the recording lineup of guitarist Necron, vocalist Vladibeer Reebs, bassist T.A., and drummer Dennis Sanders and serves as a disease-ridden apocalyptic precursor to the band’s forthcoming Book of the Worm full-length. “This demo isn’t just HOD’s return to the frontlines,” notes Reebs. “It’s the first assault of a whole new war and siege! It’s time for HOD to take our rightful place upon the throne.”

Bow down and worship to the sounds of “Beneath The Mountains Of The Scorpion,” which previously premiered via Invisible Oranges HERE as well as “When The Ghouls Feed” courtesy of Decibel Magazine at THIS LOCATION.

“Consider HOD 2013 to be the snake eating itself and a bigger snake eating the smaller snake, a kind of infinite (and horrifically malign) Ouroboros.” — Decibel

“…a thrashing charge of hybridized black and death metal that’s as dynamic and technically impressive as it is primally appealing.” – No Clean Singing

“These three songs are some of the best I’ve heard from the US death metal scene in years, maybe ages.” – Voices From The Darkside

“Right from the beginning…the band pummels the listener with straight ahead death metal insanity… an absolutely stellar demo that really whets the appetite for more from the band.” – Sea Of Tranquility

“If you like intense and fresh music, look no further and pick up a copy of The Uncreated. HOD is a band with a monster sound that is both brutal and very well crafted, something that is rare these days…” — Infernal Masquerade

“…three death metal songs that are delivered with venom…” – Lords Of Metal

AUTHOR & PUNISHER Added To Technicians Of Distortion Tour With Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals; New Track Streaming At NPR

Friday, May 24th, 2013

As the imminent unleashing of AUTHOR & PUNISHER’s Women & Children full-length draws near, industrial sound savage/engineer/former robotics major Tristan Shone is very pleased to announce a run of North American tour dates supporting Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals! Set to commence July 31st in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Technicians Of Distortion Tour will rampage its way through 15 cities, coming to a sweltering close on August 20th in Atlanta, Georgia. Additional support will be provided by Warbeast.

Comments Shone: “I am extremely excited that Phil invited me on this tour…I think for A&P to be able to play through these sound systems in rooms this size with a ravenous audience will be killer. I can’t wait!” See confirmed dates below.

AUTHOR & PUNISHER mercilessly manipulate the principal conventions of doom, industrial and heavy bass music relying on cold steel and soulless machinery to sonically replicate the despondency of life. Described most succinctly as “industrial doom,” this one-man project utilizes primarily custom designed and fabricated machines and speakers, devices that draw heavily on aspects of industrial automation and robotics and focus upon the eroticism of interaction with machine. Through his maniacal audio decomposition, Shone paints an often disturbing soundscape of a diseased world.

In celebration of Shone’s compelling creations, today Nation Public Radio hurls forth third track “Melee.” Fittingly notes NPR: “Bloated, muddled beats hang in the air like zeppelins until Shone’s steel-toed boot of a chorus comes crashing down. The structure is something like Nine Inch Nails’ strongest songs: the build, the climax, then the chaos. The last minute of ‘Melee’ sounds like a death march led by a million-strong war cry. The machines have taken over. You have 20 seconds to comply.”

Check out the “Melee” RIGHT HERE.

And if you missed it, you can still hear title track “Women & Children” streaming at Stereogum at THIS LOCATION as well as “In Remorse” courtesy of Pitchfork HERE, where you’ll also find in in-depth interview with Shone.

“It’s the kind of music that renders the listener helpless but to listen again and again.” – Steel For Brains

“Shone’s apocalyptic noise blends elements of industrial, doom, and dubstep, and contorts that mass into some chilling, unrecognizable form…” – Stereogum

“Once again the envelope has been pushed, the box stepped outside of and the tenants of doom and industrial have been refracted through the prism of the mind of a true innovator and they sound all the better for it. There are so few unique and wonderful things left in music, but AUTHOR & PUNISHER truly is one of them.” –The Sleeping Shaman

“…an all-consuming trip into the realm of mental destruction that amazes with its potent use of musical machinery. Shone certainly knows how to draw from many influences without making them painfully obvious, and this new album only refines his knack for crafting electronic music that’s chiefly ingrained in industrial and doom metal. Both greatly daring and innovative, the record is destined to be one of the most coveted underground releases of the year.” – Sputnik Music

IRON TONGUE: Debut Album Set For Release Via Neurot; New Track Posted

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013

In less than a week, IRON TONGUE will proudly present their debut full-length The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown to the public via Neurot Recordings.

Set to hit North American store shelves this Tuesday, May 28th, The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown harnesses over forty-five minutes of seven-piece Arkansas-based outfit IRON TONGUE’s soulful, bluesy, and undeniably honest modern take on classic American rock, each track a legit tale of sorrow, regret and painful days past, as well as a harbinger of more rough days to come. The stories were chronicled by Billy Anderson (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis, etc) at Wolfman Studios, owned by guitarist Jason Tedford, the band completed by guitarist Mark Chiaro, bassist Andy Warr, drummer Stan James, keyboardist JR Top, vocalist Stephanie Smittle, and fronted by Rwake vocalist Chris “CT” Terry.

In preparation of its release, a brand new hymn from The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown is available, as Invisible Oranges unfurls the LP’s gritty fourth track “Moon Unit.”

Comments James,This tune has all facets of IRON TONGUE on display and showcases some of our influences. We are stoked to give you ‘Moon Unit’ to chew on until the record is out next week!

Check out “Moon Unit” now playing AT THIS LOCATION.

If that’s not enough, catch up with the album’s previously-released singles with “Lioness” streaming via Classic Rock Magazine HERE, and also with “7 Days” hosted at The Obelisk HERE. Pre-order The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown at THIS LOCATION.

In a slow and steady stint of regional live appearances, IRON TONGUE have a pair of record release shows confirmed over the coming days, including an acoustic set in Bryant, Arkansas on release day, Tuesday, May 28th, followed by a full-lineup gig in Little Rock on Friday, May 31st. Additional tour dates will be announced in the near future.

IRON TONGUE Live:
5/28/2013 M.F. Music – Bryant, AR w/ J. Baker *IRON TONGUE acoustic set
5/31/2013 White Water Tavern – Little Rock, AR IRON TONGUE Record Release Show

“With its heart in blues and its soul in metal, this cathartic crusher, hammered out by a mélange of Arkansas veteran musicians, pays due deference to its forbears. Initially, the music bears a strong resemblance to the recent batch of Townes Van Zandt covers, perpetrated by doom Illuminati Steve Von Till, Wino and Scott Kelly. Brief bursts of it emerge as Iron Tongue roughly feed their country affectations and hefty, blues-tinged rock through the chomping maw of old school doom metal in much the same manner. However, there is no getting away from where much of this album’s running time is spent; playing between the twin forces of St. Vitus and The Allman Brothers Band.” – Heavy Blog Is Heavy

SIX FEET UNDER: VIP Bundles For The Hell In July Tour Available Now

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013

SIX FEET UNDER are currently preparing for their next round of tour dates in support of Unborn. As previously announced, Decrepit Birth and Cannabis Corpse will be joining them on this tour. Additionally, up-and-coming act Dealey Plaza will open the show. The tour begins July 10th in Houston  and VIP bundles are currently available via http://shop.soundcheckhollywood.com/collections/Hell-In-July-Tour . Bundles include a ticket to the show, SIX FEET UNDER shirt, a limited “Hell In July” poster, and a back stage pre-show hang with founding vocalist, Chris Barnes.

Comments Barnes: “Hello, all you sick fucks! Summer tours in the U.S. are always a blast, and this one is set up for sheer devastation with opening bands Decrepit Birth, Cannabis Corpse and Dealey Plaza! I would just like to take this time to say and send a personal message to those in Denver as well as Seattle: You may want to stock up and/or possibly grow twice as much cannabis as you have been, because once SFU and Cannabis Corpse roll into those towns, the sheer magnitude of smoking may – 1. Drain the cannabis supply of those two said cities or 2. Possibly cause low cloud formations. Fog lights should be used on all vehicles to and from the concert.

“On a side note, I’m super excited to have the opening band Dealey Plaza join us. They are a really killer new band and put a on a ferocious live show. Drumming for Dealey Plaza is my nephew, Ryley Dipaola.  He beats the shit out of the drums, and it makes me really proud to have my nephew on the road with me! I’m more proud than I can say about that, so I hope everyone will come out to the shows and support all these great musicians and great bands that are on tour with us this summer for Hell In July! And we will see everyone else real soon! Lots more tour dates to be announced in the coming months, so stay sick and twisted!”

Mixed and mastered by Zeuss at Planet Z, SIX FEET UNDER’s latest album, Unborn, was released on March 19th via Metal Blade Records, and features tracks written in collaboration with Ben Savage (Whitechapel) and Jari Laine (Torture Killer).

SHAI HULUD Announces Shows With Earth Crisis, Early Graves + More

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

After completing an extremely successful tour of Europe supporting Propagandhi, followed by a headlining tour, hardcore legends SHAI HULUD have returned to the states and are preparing for their next set of confirmed shows. In July, fans on the East Coast will be treated to a handful of shows featuring Earth Crisis as part of their Firestorm 20th Anniversary Tour. Additional support for the East Coast portion of the tour will be from Thy Will Be Done and White Widows. Additional SHAI HULUD shows have been confirmed for June, and July, including an appearance at Amnesia Rockfest in Montebello, Quebec. For the complete listing, see below, or visit facebook.com/shaihulud.

SHAI HULUD’s Matt Fox reflects on 2013: “2013 has been a banner year for SHAI HULUD, and it’s not even Summer yet. Seeing the release of Reach Beyond The Sun, touring Australia as a part of the Soundwave Festival (headlined by Metallica – pretty much the reason we play heavy music) and having just returned from Europe after a tour with one of our favorite bands, Propagandhi, has made this year thus far both a blur and a dream, or one and the same depending on how well you remember your dreams, if you can remember them at all. 2013 is one dream we won’t soon forget, etched further into our memory receptors – if there are such things – with the dates we confirmed with Earth Crisis, a huge and direct influence on the formation and existence of SHAI HULUD. This is a special year for us, and we’re grateful not only to share it with those who find something in our music that speaks to them, but also with so many of the bands whose music has spoken, and still speaks to us.”

In other news, French metal vocalist Rachel Aspe, known across the internet for her appearance on France’s Got Talent, has posted a vocal cover of SHAI HULUD’s “Reach Beyond the Sun.” The track can be heard on Aspe’s youtube channel: youtube.com/rachelaspemetal.

Stay up to date with SHAI HULUD’s updates from the road via their newest official social network, instagram! Fans can find them simply at instagram.com/shaihuludofficial.

THINNING THE HERD Breaks Down Freedom From The Known With Album Stream

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

Freedom From The Known, the sophomore full-length from NYC trio THINNING THE HERD, is now available on CD and via iTunes with additional digital outlets to follow, released via the band’s own Saint Marks Records. Therefore, This Is Not A Scene is broadcasting Freedom From The Known in its entirety, paired with a lively summary of the album’s foundation and what’s transformed within the band between the album’s initial inspiration, the inception and completion of the album, and the hardships they endured bringing it to fruition.

Get down with THINNING THE HERD’s transcendentalist ideology and full-on stream of the genre-defiant Freedom From The Known at This Is Not A Scene RIGHT HERE.

Physical copies of Freedom From The Known can be purchased alongside other new THINNING THE HERD merch via the band directly at the TTH website, or via iTunes.

THINNING THE HERD will perform regionally and through the Summer months in support of Freedom From The Known including a show at Brooklyn’s Grand Victory with Los Letharios on May 30th, and more to be announced in the coming days.

THINNING THE HERD Live:
5/30/2013 Grand Victory – Brooklyn, NY w/ Los Letharios

Founding THINNING THE HERD vocalist/guitarist Gavin Spielman had replaced the crew on debut full-length, Oceans Rise, recruiting a new rhythm section in 2012 with bassist Wes Edmonds and drummer Rick Cimato (ex-Locked In A Vacancy). The new lineup traveled to Chicago last Summer to record the sophomore album Freedom From The Known at Electrical Audio Studios with Steven Albini, and as they were preparing to release the new album, Rick Cimato was tragically killed in a head-on collision over the 2012 holiday season. Mourning the loss of their friend, Spielman and Edmonds hosted several local listening parties of the album for local fans and friends to honor Rick and his family, and then recruited local drummer Garth Macaleavey to carry the new material and TTH as a whole forward.

HARM WÜLF: Solo Venture By Blacklisted Frontman To See Release Via Deathwish

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

Coming to Deathwish Records’ forward-thinking roster of hardcore acts early this Summer is a release that stands in heavy contrast from its peers, as the label prepares to set loose the debut release from eclectic Philadelphia-based entity HARM WÜLF.

From a vagabond spirit rooted within dissimilar worlds, but both yielding a dim outlook, HARM WÜLF perpetuates a vagabond emotiveness; a non-complacent style of America. Fusing elements from multiple genres and eras into something both classic and contemporary, HARM WÜLF is the bedroom musical entity of G. Hirsch. Known for his moving lyrical and vocal contributions in Philadelphia’s hardcore purveyors Blacklisted, Hirsch’s debut solo venture There’s Honey In The Soil So We Wait For The Till is a collection of songs which touch upon the dark and rustic themes of solitude and aging disappointment, songs inspired by a wide range of artists, from the tranquil resonance of Low, rhythmic acoustic strumming of Strength Through Joy and the ascending power of Angels Of Light, to the insular, grotesque Americana of Cormac McCarthy and Flannery O’Connor. At most times the passages are sparse and austere, others are apocalyptically orchestrated, the album intertwining elements of sadness and strength, and casting a foreboding outlook on tomorrow.

Following his debut live show in Philly, Hirsch will bring HARM WÜLF to the live setting again in the coming weeks, laying the path for the release of There’s Honey In The Soil So We Wait For The Till, with a trio of California gigs supporting cohorts Nails, Xibalba, Power Trip and Palm, preceded by a hometown show in Philly this Sunday, May 26th with hometown shoegaze act Nothing.

Stay tuned for updates on HARM WÜLF live actions, more music from There’s Honey In The Soil So We Wait For The Till and more in the coming weeks.

HARM WÜLF Live:
5/26/2013 Gunners Run – Philadelphia, PA w/ Nothing
6/07/2013 Gilman – Berkeley, CA w/ Nails, Xibalba, Power Trip, Palm
6/08/2013 The Echo – Los Angeles, CA w/ Nails, Xibalba, Power Trip, Palm
6/09/2013 Unit B – Santa Ana, CA w/ Nails, Xibalba, Power Trip, Palm

FULL OF HELL: Month-Long U.S. Tour Assault Begins Tomorrow

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

Pennsylvania/Maryland-based noise/hardcore revolutionaries FULL OF HELL will embark on their most intense run of their heavyweight 2013 tour itinerary this week, as the act’s month-long American assault in support of their second LP Rudiments Of Mutilation is set to set Long Island ablaze tomorrow evening.

Following the tour’s start, subsequent shows as part of this year’s Maryland Deathfest, Chaos In Tejas and more are to follow, including a string of shows alongside the mighty Integrity followed by more than two weeks of shows alongside Seven Sisters of Sleep, possibly the only time SSOS will ever fully tour. Just one month after the wicked U.S. trek, FULL OF HELL will invade Europe for a three-week bombardment of the continent alongside Circle Takes the Square and Code Orange Kids.

Now just three weeks from its official release into the populous, Rudiments Of Mutilation is undoubtedly a contender for most scathing album of the year, as FULL OF HELL’s bestial power and corrosive elements continue to become more apparent. Through their barrage of whiplashing psycho-drone feedback holes and noise-drenched pedal attacks a noxious brew of Converge and Pageninetynine gone the ways of Bastard Noise and Discordance Axis, Rudiments Of Mutilation proves to be the band’s most incapacitating material yet. Recorded with Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Old, Phantomsmasher), Rudiments Of Mutilation captures the incredible conviction the young crew culminate live, catapulting their energetic hatesurge into the audience and inspiring riotous angst amongst the humans.

Stay tuned as FULL OF HELL prepares for the release of their first official video in the coming days, in addition to new tour updates and more. Rudiments Of Mutilation will hit the streets on June 11, 2013 worldwide via A389 Recordings.

LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH Announces North American Tour With Melechesh

Monday, May 20th, 2013

LA-based black metal legion, LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH, are emerging for a North American tour this June. They will be supporting Melechesh alongside Vreid and Reign of Lies. The tour begins on June 16th in Los Angeles at The Joint and will wrap up on June 30th in Brooklyn.

LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH’s “caustic yet otherworldly approach” (Decibel Magazine) has earned the band high praise from fans and critics worldwide with their most recent album, Baphometic Chaosium. Additionally, the band recently released their first ever music video for the title track. Directed by co-founder and lead vocalist, Autarch (aka metal illustrator, Farron Loathing), the project, which also marks Autarch’s directorial debut, is the result of a partnership between Farron Loathing and Mortichrome Films. It is described by its creator as “a psycho-dramatic interpretation of the Mass of Chaos and the invocation of Baphomet as performed by a collective of ritual performance artists.” Watch the video now at THIS LOCATION.
