SCOTT KELLY’s U.S. Solo Tour Underway; New Album Nears Release

Having his American acoustic tour alongside Bob Wayne and Jay Munly in December, and just recently a trek through Australia and New Zealand alongside John Baizely, SCOTT KELLY’s newest U.S. solo tour with support from EUGENE S. ROBINSON (Oxbow) is now underway.

If there was ever a certainty of damage done, dealt and overcome, the SCOTT KELLY solo tour is an object lesson in the character building parameters of life’s grinding parade. Bringing equal parts sonorous weight and lambent beauty, the man, the guitar and the songs from a songbook heavy with NEUROSIS and SHRINEBUILDER antecedents, KELLY’s current tour sees him debuting unreleased songs from his upcoming solo record, as well as his previous solo LPs for a live show experience burnished by the acoustic and not diminished by it. “There’s fear everywhere,” Kelly says. “In moments both quiet and small. And there’s surviving them all. And we are.”

EUGENE S. ROBINSON supports with a brand of storytelling that draws from his previously published work, as well as stories from the beast that has driven OXBOW for the past two decades.

HAVOK To Release EP Late May; Additional Live Performances Announced

Denver thrashers HAVOK continue their metal assault today confirming May 22 as the North American release date of their new EP titled The Point Of No Return. Recorded by the band with final touches coming via James Murphy (Death, Testament), the EP will contain two brand new songs plus a few HAVOK reworked cover tunes. The Point Of No Return precedes the band’s first European adventure beginning early May.

“We’ve been writing some new music in between tours and we’re excited to unveil it,” comments vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez. “These are the first new songs since Time Is Up came out last year. We recorded a cover of Sepultura’s classic ‘Arise’ for your listening enjoyment and the EP features our Slayer medley that was only available on the digital version of Time Is Up. The EP is a good precursor to where the next album will be taking us. I can’t wait to play this new stuff live… See you all on the road!”

Currently on tour with English Dogs, HAVOK’s stage show continues to gather critical fan and media applause. On announcement of the tour, Los Angeles’ Big Wheel Magazine noted, “opening the show will be Colorado’s fiercest… HAVOK are definitely a band to keep a watch for as their break-neck speed metal is taking the states by storm.” The band has confirmed a string of headline dates beginning March 2 which includes a performance in Puerto Rico. HAVOK then will align with Sepultura, Death Angel, and Krisiun for a tour beginning in Santa Ana, California on April 10 and wraps in New York on April 30.

HAVOK released their full-length debut, Burn, mid 2009. The record instantly found a nice pocket of fans while initiating the early curiosity of media around the globe. Commenting after signing with Candlelight Records, Sanchez said, “this is the break we’ve been working towards. It is the beginning of great things to come. We know that the work is really just beginning and that the pressure is on. But pressure, as you know, makes diamonds.”

It was with the release of Time Is Up early 2011 that things really started to fall into place for the young four-piece. “HAVOK have hit their stride,” said Decibel Magazine. “HAVOK is everything that is great about thrash,” notes Terrorizer. “Everyone should be worshipping at these Denver native’s altar as they have the flashy skill, ridiculous song-writing chops, and prodigious lead guitar work that’ll have even the most jaded ears saying, ‘okay just this last one,’” adds Rock Sound. Two videos, “Covering Fire” and “D.O.A.” have added to the ongoing success of Time Is Up, which has seen double the sales compared to Burn, all while the band has maintained an insane touring schedule. Sanchez says, “we’ve been touring a lot in support of Time Is Up and this year is no exception. We’re hitting the road harder than ever in 2012. There is a lot to look forward to, including some things outside of North America. I can’t wait!”

IDES OF GEMINI To Release New Full-Length Via Neurot Recordings This Spring

IDES OF GEMINI is a collusion of musical forces precipitated by the haunting and inimitable vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of Los Angeles dark-psych alchemists Black Math Horseman. The compositions are the long-simmering mental fallout of veteran music and film journalist J. Bennett (guitar/backing vocals), who has spent most of the last 14 years writing for such publications as Decibel, Terrorizer, Revolver, Alternative Press and Thrasher. The third and final corner of the triangle is Kelly Johnston, whose martial drumming techniques and soaring backing vocals literally brought IDES OF GEMINI to life as a performing entity.

Last year, Timms and Bennett recorded and self-released IDES OF GEMINI’s four-song EP, The Disruption Writ, which was anointed “My Favorite Demo of 2010” by the highly influential music blog Invisible Oranges. Lyrically, the songs detailed the terrifying permanence of dismemberment in all its unsettling forms: psychological, emotional and physical. Musically, though? Someone on the Internet called it “dream doom.” Nobody likes to be pigeonholed, but IDES OF GEMINI will gladly take up temporary residence in that particular nook for the sake of shorthand. Which is to say that “dream doom” will do the trick for now. And now is nothing if not fleeting. Mostly because IDES OF GEMINI are about to unveil their full-length debut, Constantinople, via Neurot Recordings.

Set for North American release on May 29, 2012 (May 28th in UK/EU), Constantinople’s nine-tracks were produced by IDES OF GEMINI, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Skeletonwitch) at Sunset Lodge Recording in Los Angeles and features striking cover art collaboration by Timms and Bennett.

Comments Bennett of the soul-searing offering: “To say that this album is the result of blood, sweat and tears is the understatement of the year. This record exists only by the sheer will and determination of the three band members. Personally speaking, I wrote about half the music during the five months of 2011 in which I was unable to walk. Constantinople means many things to Ides Of Gemini, but it is primarily an example of victory over horseshit.”

SPAWN OF POSSESSION: New Track Streaming Via Guitar World

As the worldwide street date for SPAWN OF POSSESSION’s upcoming third LP, Incurso, is now less than one month away, another new track from the blistering opus has unleashed to the public this week via Guitar World. The third track from Incurso bears the title “Bodiless Sleeper,” and over its six-minute duration showcases the multitude of incredibly complex and dynamic structures this revolutionary killing machine produces on the new record. The second track from Incurso, “Where Angels Go Demons Follow,” was also previously released onto the human population, and can be streamed at this location.

Incurso is the first album under the banner of Relapse Records for Sweden’s futuristic technical death metal warlords SPAWN OF POSSESSION, confirmed for official release onto North American audiences on March 13th. Featuring current and former members of Necrophagist and Obscura, Incurso is the first album to be unleashed from SPAWN OF POSSESSION in over five years, and based on the communal response from band’s incredibly diehard fanbase over the newly-released songs and info on the album, is easily going to be one of the most flooring, must-have death metal releases of the year.

Los Angeles based Prosthetic Records today confirms details of their second ever official South By Southwest (SXSW) showcase in Austin, Texas. The show will take place on Friday, March 16 at Valhalla (located at 710 Red River and formerly known as Room 710) and kicks off at 8:00 pm. After signing with Prosthetic, they released Carving Desert Canyons, which Revolver called “a cinematic blast of intricately melodic fretwork and pummeling percussion,” in 2009. The band subsequently toured with Dream Theater, Devin Townsend and Between The Buried And Me, among others. RISING: European Tour Announced

Danish metal trio RISING will head out on a full European Spring tour in March and April in support of their debut LP To Solemn Ash. The tour starts on March 16th in Berlin and includes dates in Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, Italy and Luxembourg. In addition to the mainland tour, RISING will play their first headlining shows in Sweden along with one Danish show when hitting Linköping, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Copenhagen in April and May. The festivities kick off with three Danish shows in March supporting fellow Danes, punk/thrash outfit The Kandidate.

RISING’s debut To Solemn Ash was released in Europe last October and in North America on January 17th, and has been the subject to general praise from the American press. Decibel Magazine gave the album an 8 out of 10, and just recently Pitchfork rated the album 7.6 out of 10 stating: “They’ve found multiple ways to come off expansive and compelling within a tight, traditional framework…They simply know how to write great riffs.”

EXHUMED Forced To Cancel Brazilian Dates

Due to unforeseen visa issues, California ministers of gore EXHUMED have been forced to cancel their previously scheduled dates in Brazil this week with Aborted.

Comments vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey: “We are totally weakened to have to cancel our Brazilian dates. Due to our visa applications getting rejected, we cannot legally enter the country at this time — in fact, they threatened to ban us from being there for a decade. We are doing everything we can to reschedule these dates as soon as possible. Due to the bullshit policies of U.S. immigration/customs and Brazilian customs’ policy of reciprocity, our visas were refused by the Brazilian consulate before even being processed. We seriously and very sincerely apologize to all our friends in Brazil who wanted to see the band. We will do everything in our power to work with our agent, the promoter, and the immigration assholes in the U.S. and Brazil to get this squared away. This is a serious bummer. We will spend the extra week before heading to Europe looking at hot Brazilian chicks on the Internet instead of in real life and being really, really pissed off.”

EXHUMED will kick off the 16-date Grind Over Europe Tour with Rotten Sound and Magrudergrind on February 24 then join Anaal Nathrakh for a short run of U.K. dates. From there, the band will take their audio menace stateside for a handful of headlining shows before jumping on a near month-long bout of U.S. dates with death metal icons Cannibal Corpse! MONARCH’s Full Album Streaming Via BrooklynVegan; European Tour Begins This Week

With the release of MONARCH’s sixth full-length, Omens, set for release in just two weeks via At A Loss Recordings, the band are set to embark on their first full tour in support of the crushing album. The chaos shall ensue this Friday in Basque Country, and devastate clubs throughout Europe into early March, tackling France, Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Denmark. MONARCH will unleash their captivating avant-sludge through their notoriously maniacal live show night after night, performing alongside atmospheric Irish black metal outfit Altar Of Plagues for the entire trek.

A thirty-four minute down-tempo/down-tuned ethereal funeral dirge comprised of three tracks, Omens perfectly personifies what fans have come to embrace about MONARCH since their 2005 inception, their caustic, crushing style of slow-motion apocalyptic doom coming alive with haunting moans and layered, ghostly shrieks throughout Omens‘ entirety. The record features artwork by Yann Black and Valérie Poulin and will be released as a six-panel digipak CD in an initial pressing of 1,000 copies with a UV finish cover

Omens was recorded over a four month period in four different countries with four different producers — Osaka, Japan by Hironori Ochi @ Kakurega, Melbourne, Australia by  Neil Thomason @ Head Gap, Montreal, Canada by Matt Cartman @ Crane Studio, and Chicago, IL by Sanford Parker @ Engine Studios — then mixed by Sanford Parker and mastered by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room (Twilight, Ministry, Yob). The album features newest MONARCH member Rob Shaffer (Dark Castle, YOB) along with guitarist Shiran Kaïdine (Year of No Light), bassist MicHell Bidegain, and as always the ethereal, penetrating vocals of Emilie Bresson. The record also includes guest appearances by Atsuchi Sano (Birushanah), Yailen Munoz (Ensorcelor), Eric Quach (Thisquietarmy), Jeanne Peluard (The Sparteens) and Robert MacManus (ex-Grey Daturas, ex-Monarch).

THEORIES: Seattle Death Crew Begins West Coast Tour This Week

Seattle-based terminators THEORIES will bludgeon the West Coast with twelve live assaults beginning with a hometown gig this Tuesday. The tour runs down the coast over the next two weeks and will see THEORIES laying down their grind/crust-influenced death metal alongside Vektor, Transient, Lack of Interest, Xibalba, ACxDC, Impaled, Brainoil, Battlemaster, Infernal Stronghold, Murder Construct, Touché Amore, Goatwhore, Hate Eternal, Fallujah, Cerebral Bore and tons more along the way.

The reign of THEORIES is just beginning, but is off to a raging start. With solid regional performances featuring both local and national acts, as well as a West Coast tour already under their belt since inception last year, the band are proving themselves to be a hard-working unit who are utilizing the skills they learned growing up in a DIY scene and in promoting the other acts the members of THEORIES are associated with, including Skarp, Book of Black Earth, Samothrace, Scourge Schematic, Splatterhouse, Iamthethorn and other previous acts. Having just recently signed with booking kingpins The Pantheon Agency, the band are devoted to hitting the road as much as possible through the new year.
