Union City, New Jersey alt hip-hop group DÄLEK is preparing to release their limited vinyl-only 12” EP, Respect To The Authors, through Germany’s Exile On Mainstream later this month in conjunction with a European tour which includes performances at the label’s 20th Anniversary festival celebrations. As the record’s street date approaches, the title track has been debuted through an exclusive premiere at BrooklynVegan.
With six dense and diverse tracks delivering a half hour of new music, DÄLEK’s strictly limited, one-off, vinyl-only EP, Respect To The Authors is intended to be sold on tour and through a few select outlets.
With the stream of the EP’s title track, DÄLEK offers, “’Respect To The Authors,’ on one hand, is my salute to the lyricists, the true MCs, and to those who continue to fight for justice in these troubled times. On the other hand, it is also about much more… to quote the lyrics: ‘Muthafuka my music IS the message.’ I hope it captures these dark moments of life and also provides the inspiration to get back up and crack their proverbial jaw.”
BrooklynVegan writes, “The group sound as punishing and confrontational as ever on this song…”

New Jersey tone evangelists DÄLEK — dubbed “alt hip-hop” by their iconic label, Ipecac Records – create a sound that is indeed an alternative: being hip-hop for those who don’t pigeonhole themselves as typical diehards of the genre, attracting those listening outside the box. Subversive. Paradigm-changing. Mind blowing.
DÄLEK does not have a message; they are the message. Focusing both on tone and content while staying true to the roots of hip-hop but bringing in the love for monolithic sound arrangements as well as dream-like haze of sheer volume, they combine both the powers of sound and words with a singular and indisputable style. For Exile On Mainstream, it’s nothing less than a longtime dream coming true to release Respect To The Authors. The artist and the label have been friends for well over seventeen years and this release brings their like-minded efforts full circle.
