OMOTAI: Houston Doom Metal Outfit Debuts “Last Of The Green Vial” Video At Invisible Oranges

Houston, Texas-based OMOTAI has issued the first of several new videos from their recently-released A Ruined Oak full-length, releasing the visual accompaniment for “Last Of The Green Vial” through a debut hosted by Invisible Oranges.

Recorded by Chris Ryan at Dead City Sound and mastered by James Plotkin, OMOTAI’s A Ruined Oak album delivers an unrelenting dose of charged riff dynamics, pummeling low-end thunder, and infectious hooks. This sprawling, diverse work shows a greater range than anything OMOTAI has done before, with songs drawing from thrash, doom, sludge, extreme metal, hardcore punk, and post-rock.

Offers T.C. Woodruff who created the video for OMOTAI, “Their music has a lot of dread and paranoia, but as people, they’re quite a sarcastic, good humored bunch. I wanted to riff off all of that. “

Invisible Oranges’ intense write-up on the video/song, and of the A Ruined Oak album’s overall concept states in part, “The song, whose NSFW music video you can watch below, describes a communal disaster where an entire town is reduced to body parts, each person now only a ‘skull and ribs and a spine.’ Like the rest of OMOTAI’s A Ruined Oak, the song is explicitly about the colony of Roanoke, an island off the coast of North Virginia where one hundred-fifteen colonizers vanished under less than clear circumstances. However, ‘Last of the Green Vial’ works just as well as a lament for any community wiped out by a force greater than them… In the video, the knight is victorious in fending off the dragon, but the video plays this victory as a joke. Only in staged combat is the human body sturdy enough to ward away its own destruction. In reality we are a needle away from meaninglessness.”
