One of the most terrifying, brutal albums to see release this year, Governance, by Birmingham, UK-based industrial metal duo, KHOST, is now available through Cold Spring Records.

KHOST‘s Governance is like driving at night with your spirituality asleep at the wheel. Continuing the band’s immersion in themes of detachment and dissonance, the album was written and recorded during the Winter of 2016-17, a time of great unease and sickness for the band which nearly resulted in the death of one member. A hinterland of low resolution transmissions interspersed with broad concrete columns of distortion that loom suddenly from the dim landscape which devastates the listener with nearly fifty minutes of entrancing yet hazardous tectonic doom-laced revulsion.

Governance was produced and mixed by KHOST, and mastered by Martin Bowes at Cage Studio. The album features a guest spoken word passage from Oxbow’s Eugene Robinson on the track “Cloudbank Mausoleum,” and guest cello by Jo Quail on “Defraction,” and closes with a remix of the track “Coven” by Tel Aviv artist Adrian Stainburner.

Decibel Magazine states, “Written over the winter during a period of sickness, including one near-death moment, KHOST‘s Governance, their third album, sounds like an album written in turmoil and steeped in darkness. Death, doom and industrial find themselves in noisy and claustrophobic quarters on the caustic record.” Ave Noctum concludes their detailed review with, “Perhaps in constructing this KHOST have dredged up a perfect soundtrack to the hell that is going on in the world during these terrible times, if anything it could help herald it onto the extinction that seems more and more inevitable on a daily basis. All well and good if that is what you are looking for but this is an album that should definitely be approached with utmost caution.” Archaic Triad’s dissection of the album finds, “different tracks utilize extremely different means on their journey towards mental collapse… In a sane and less jaded world, this piece of industrialized, raped doom metal would probably struggle to find an audience. That is not the world we’ve got, though, and it is highly likely that many people will find this as impressive as yours truly finds it.”

Governance is out now on CD and digital formats through Cold Spring Records; stream and order it HERE.

Terrorizer Magazine in the UK and Ultraje Magazine in Poland both released new issues this week which both feature KHOST on their respective covermount CDs.

KHOST is comprised of Andy Swan (Final, Iroha) and Damian B (Carthage, Techno Animal, Deathless). Since their 2013 inception, the band has toured with the likes of Godflesh and Conan, performed with Asphyx, Locrian, Okkultokrati, Vodun, Moss, Anaal Nathrakh, Aluk Todolo, Final/JK Flesh, and many others. They have played as far abroad as Israel, and have collaborated with Eugene Robinson of Oxbow, Daniel Buess, and more. The band has also been remixed by D&B artists Hostage and Necrobia, Kevin Laska (Transitional, Novatron), Tunnels Of Ah, Satori, and more. Prior KHOST recordings include two full-length albums – Copper Lock Hell and Corrosive Shroud – as well as the Needles Into The Ground EP which featured KHOST material deconstructed by Justin Broadrick of Godflesh.
