HONKY: Austin-Based Superboogie Trio Premieres “Double Fine” At Decibel; Track Features Melvins’ Dale Crover On Drums + Corduroy Preorders Available

HONKY

Long-running, Austin-based superboogie trio, HONKY – which features long time Butthole Surfer/part time Melvins bassist JD Pinkus, guitarist Bobby Ed Landgraf (Down, Skrew, …), and drummer Trinidad Leal (Dixie Witch) — will drop the rump-shaking wares of their anticipated Corduroy full-length later this month via Housecore Records!

In advance of its release, today Decibel Magazine is streaming “Double Fine,” with the Melvins’ Dale Crover on the drum stool, for communal inebriation. Says Pinkus of the track, “Only when the Mighty Dale Crover is jammin’ with HONKY, ya gotta decide whether to listen to the background harmonies or triangle solo. He is a monster on the triangle.”

HONKY was founded in 1996 and proudly carries the torch held by the likes of Bloodrock, Pantera, ZZ Top and the red-headed stranger himself, Mr. Willie Nelson. Over the course of two decades, the band has released some of the best stripped down, butt-shakin’, rock ever cut to wax, tape, or CD.  The band’s newest release (and eighth overall!), Corduroy, is another feast of down and dirty rock, rollin’ across the finish line on May 27th via on Philip Anselmo’s Housecore Records. Boasting nine tracks thick enough to eat with a fork but you’ll wanna keep a spoon handy so ya don’t miss out on that gravy, Corduroy was produced by JD Pinkus and mastered by Paul Leary with artwork and layout by Ryan Everett. Drum duties were handled by a more-than-qualified group of drummers, including Leal, Michael “Night Train” Brueggen (Blackula, Syrup, Supagroup), Dale Crover (Melvins), and even original HONKY drummer, Lance Farley, all makin’ the grooves proper. Guest appearances include Mark “Speedy” Gonzales and the Fantasma Horns, as well as the band’s favorite Honkette, Rae Comeau. Boasts Sea Of Tranquility in an advance review of the record, “..with songs like ‘Outta Season,’ ‘Baby Down Slow Down, ‘and the title track so full of addictive grooves, raunchy guitar work, occasional horns, strong lead and backing vocals, and just a warm vibe, it’s hard to imagine these guys falling as far under the radar as they have.”

HONKY will bring their Lone Star grooves to the stage on their upcoming Texas and UK dates with additional live performances to be announced soon.
