SANNHET: New Track Released In Advance Of Debut Album’s Street Date

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

SANNHET and Sacrament Music today post another brand new mantra from the instrumental post-metal trio’s pending debut album, Known Flood. Clocking in just under eight minutes long, “Still Breathing” — the expansive next-to-last track on Known Flood and the longest song on SANNHET’s maiden LP — surges with the band’s mesh of static-filled textures and organic/natural ebb-and-flow the band so expertly executes.

Experience the slow-building tension of “Still Breathing” via Cvlt Nation now.

A video for the album’s opening track “Absecon Isle” was released by BrooklynVegan followed by a premiere of the track “Moral” via Pitchfork.

A record release gala for Known Flood will take place February 22nd at Sacrament Music headquarters, Saint Vitus Bar. In addition to SANNHET, the lineup features Theologian and brethren Cleanteeth, in addition to headliners Deafhaven for an exclusive East Coast show.

SANNHET Record Release Show:
2/22/2013 Saint Vitus Bar – Brooklyn, NY w/ Theologian, Cleanteeth, Deafhaven [info]

With nearly forty-five minutes of electrified post-metal, fueled with domineering riff-building movements and intense percussive hostility, Known Flood unifies SANNHET’s lightly blackened atmospheric style, captured by Colin Marston (Krallice, Behold… The Arctopus, Dysrhythmia) and mastered by Carl Saff. Sacrament Music — founded by the owners of Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus Bar and members of Primitive Weapons — will release Known Flood digitally and on LP, the pressing limited to 500 with 100 on colored wax. Preorders are available HERE.

“On her 12th solo album, German metal maiden DORO PESCH sounds more assured than ever, particularly as a songwriter on these 13 taut, Teutonic tunes.” – Revolver

“…probably the classiest lady in metal.” – Outburn

“Raise Your Fist is a solid outing for DORO PESCH and at this stage in the game, would expect nothing less from her. She still manages to savor that hard rock image and make it work for her and I hope she never stops doing this. I say raise your fist in the air babe, and never let it go.” – Blistering

“Raise Your Fist will put a smile on all of DORO’s fans faces, many years after she first appeared Heavy Metal still has plenty to give thanks to those like DORO.” – Sea Of Tranquility

“There is no doubt in my mind that DORO is a pioneer in her field of music, one that does what she loves best, and gives her fans all. That’s what I call dedication. Do I recommend “Raise Your Fist”, most definitely.” – Metal Titans

“Raise Your Fist is a confident, well crafted, classic metal album, which offers a slab of horn-throwing anthems, with just the right amount of sentiment. DORO heads into a new decade with another load of rock and roll ammunition in her arsenal.” – The Examiner

“For a quarter century, DORO has been defying stereotypes and putting out old-school metal that never fails to recall the days when the star of heavy metal burned brightest. Time may not have been the kindest to the style of music DORO has always stood for, but it has been kind to her. The accomplishment of staying relevant in the scene for so long is not something to be taken for granted, and it’s something indeed to be proud of.” – Bloody Good Horror

MUMAKIL: Swiss Death/Grind Outlaws Complete Second Album For Relapse

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

Switzerland’s maniacal grindcore death outfit MUMAKIL has completed the recording of their new LP, now bearing the confirmed title Flies Will Starve, set for release later in the year via Relapse Records.

Self-recorded at Terrier 5 Studio in Geneva, the MUMAKIL faction’s first album in four years will devastate grinders worldwide with twenty-four brand new tracks of wicked, precision grindcore with even more death metal persuasion than their previous full-length, Behold The Failure. Fans of Birdflesh, Misery Index, Antigama, Kill The Client and the like, get ready! Stated the band, upon entering the studio in September: “This will be our best album in terms of production, riff quality, variation and songwriting. It is going to be a great mix between everything we love in grindcore and death-metal with subjects like war, anger, pain, personal experiences and deceptions, and an overall theme about mankind’s permanent will to destroy itself.”

Following an arsenal of releases since the band’s 2004 foundation, the anticipated Flies Will Starve will be MUMAKIL’s third full-length and second for Relapse, not including a split with Inhume on the label’s cult Slimewave 7” series. The album’s street date and other new info will be made available in the coming weeks, including tours of Europe, Canada and beyond in support of the album.

In the meantime, Europe is already doomed for a blastbeating this March, as MUMAKIL will rampage across the continent alongside Swedish grind allies Afgrund for over three weeks. You have been notified; be there or be crushed in the tour’s wake.

BATILLUS: Avant-Industrial Doom Conjurors To Unleash Concrete Sustain Via Seventh Rule Recordings Next Month; Artwork + Track Listing Revealed

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

Brooklyn, New York avant-industrial doom conjurors BATILLUS (buh-TILL-us) today confirm March 19, 2013 as the official North American release date of their forthcoming new full-length. Titled Concrete Sustain, the follow-up to 2011’s critically-lauded Furnace long player, was recorded and mixed by Sanford Parker and BATILLUS at Sound Generation in Manhattan and Hypercube in Chicago and mastered by Collin Jordan at the Boiler Room.

With songs that range from relentless mid-tempo churns to subterranean crawls, BATILLUS cohere the extremes of heavy music into a surge of massive riffing, rolling over and descending on the listener with the force and intensity of a sudden storm. Concrete Sustain delivers six unforgettable tracks of chilling industrial doom.

Concrete Sustain Track Listing:
1. Concrete
2. Cast
3. Beset
4. Mirrors
5. Rust
6. Thorns

Originally conceived in 2007 as an instrumental trio, the BATILLUS lineup expanded in 2009 to add vocals, synthesizer, and samples to the dynamic range of their music. The tight and focused songs on Concrete Sustain reflect this expanded palette, which has had a profound effect on the band’s writing process.

Concrete Sustain will be released via Seventh Rule Recordings. Stay tuned for further info on BATILLUS, including a stretch of live rituals, in the coming weeks.

“[Vocalist Fade] Kainer’s trash can-scraped screams, wild boar growls and droning industrial synths contribute an element of bottomless evil, sculpted from searing feedback and blistering riffs.” – NPR

“[A] sludgy four-piece that slows monstrous Black Sabbath riffs to a crawl to produce highly textured compositions of droning doom-metal.” – The New Yorker

“[B]eyond-atmospheric blackened doom.” – Revolver

“BATILLUS’ mega-doom is some high-dosage shit; super-sized riffs anchor the load, but Furnace is way more than just thick strings, bass drones, fuzz boxes, and early Sabbath LPs. Their debut comes soaked in a lysergic emulsion of USBM melancholia, weird quasi-industrial distortion and feedback, with epic jams coming out for air when the Brooklyn quartet wants to kick it all laid-back and loose-leafed with some NeurIsis-style clean guitar.” – Decibel

TODAY IS THE DAY celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year. Led by visionary frontman Steve Austin, TITD’s violent but psychedelic attack has received worldwide acclaim since their 1993 debut, Supernova. Nine studio albums have been released through Amphetamine Reptile, Relapse and others, the band’s ever-morphing lineup featuring notable musicians including Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher, who would later go on to form Mastodon. The current lineup sees Austin flanked by drummer Curran Reynolds (Wetnurse) and bassist Ryan Jones (Wetnurse, Mutilation Rites). The band’s most recent LP, Pain Is A Warning LP, was issued by Blackmarket Activities in 2011, the Kurt Ballou-produced beast receiving critical acclaim worldwide. Terrorizer Magazine awarded Pain Is a Warning a perfect 5/5 score, stating “Rather than resting on their considerable laurels, Steve Austin and company have created the most dynamic, varied, vicious and deeply touching album of their already long career… This is the album of the year.” Decibel Magazine hailed Pain Is a Warning as Today Is the Day’s “most ferocious offering since 1999’s In the Eyes of God and easily the most distinctly rock n’ roll slab in the band’s entire catalog.”

Stay tuned for continuous updates on TODAY IS THE DAY as the tour draws near.

ABSU Announces Special North American Tour

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

ABSU today announces details on their upcoming tour, titled North American Connexus Conjuration. The 26-city tour will see the band perform two full sets with music spanning their 20-year recording career. It is the first full tour by the Texas-based mythological occult trio since the release of Abzu, the second of a planned trilogy of recordings.

Vocalist/drummer Proscriptor shares, “Since the release of our latest recording, Abzu, the response has been extremely vehement and now is the perfect moment to commemorate the album’s essence throughout North America. We purposely waited until the timing was ideal to embark on this journey, as we shall contaminate the communities with our craft of Mythological Occult Metal. We’re attempting to divide the concerts into two sections: the first act will showcase songs spanning from our entire discography, as the second act will focus on Phase Two from the album Tara: The Cythrául Klan’s Scrutiny. For the past couple of years, many of ABSU’s followers have requested specified songs from this chapter of Tara, so it is our aspiration to give the people what they want.”

Abzu, the band’s seventh studio album, was released October 2010. The album was mixed by J.T. Longoria (King Diamond/Solitude Aeternus) and features original works by Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Behemoth, Destroyer 666, Vader). Proscriptor commented, “With this record, we are appending dirtier elements of psychedelia and fusion. Lyrically, it descends deeper into Enki’s lower world as well the Enochian Magic(k) System.” He added, “This album is not a ‘natural progression’ from previous releases, but a feat of metaphysical conquest and murkiness.”

ABSU came to prominence with the release of their 1993 debut, Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L. Each album saw continual expansion of the band’s now highly regarded artistic vision and international fanbase. It was with 2001’s Tara that the band truly arrived. The album reached top lists of countless magazines worldwide. Years, however, would pass before any new material would be recorded. In late 2007, the band finally announced their re-awakening. Now teamed with London-based Candlelight Records, the band would take nearly sixteen months writing/recording their sixth album. Absu, featuring contributions from members of King Diamond, Mayhem, Melechesh, Firstborn and Enthroned, was released early 2009.

ABSU currently features guitarist Vis Crom and bassist/vocalist Ezezu with vocalist/drummer Proscriptor.

“An energizing sprint through black metal, bedrock thrash, symphonic flourishes, and arcane mythological references… layers of density define the record– in sonics, in lyrics, in the completely triumphant, surprisingly melodic manner in which it merges the two. Perfect and immense.” – Pitchfork

“A lightning storm of industrial shred and kick-drum retribution spews fire atop Necromancer vox and shattered glass arrangements.” – Austin Chronicle

“Keyboards and guitars swell and recede with purpose. Thrash riffs fire cleanly in tandem with Proscriptor McGovern’s battery. It smells of click track, but he is still the best drummer in black metal, bar Frost. Absu has brought the Necronomicon into the age of Kindle. Say hello to the 21st century.” – Invisible Oranges

“Should you buy this album? Absu-fucking-lutely!” – MetalSucks

THE SECRET Unleashes “Seven Billion Graves” Video

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

Italy’s most caustic metal/hardcore outfit THE SECRET has unleashed an official video for their nihilistic cry against humanity, “Seven Billion Graves.” Directed by Shazzula Nebula, the video was released via Scion AV, and was posted first at Invisible Oranges, who sums it up quite well, stating: “There’s no story, no band members, and indeed, no humans present. Cameras roam the remains of dead civilizations or skitter over broken terrain. All is rendered in greys and blacks. It’s a grim vision, and a fair aesthetic match for THE SECRET’s stark metalcore. No rounded edges or straight lines here.”

Help THE SECRET dig “Seven Billion Graves” now.

The fourth album from THE SECRET, the decimating Agnus Dei is the most lethal weapon in this unique Italian attack squad’s broadening arsenal, coalescing the most destructive elements of crust, black metal and hardcore with the force of tectonic plates, constructed of monolithic riffs, taking the listener on a hallucinated trip towards a hazy tomorrow. Recorded by Kurt Ballou (High on Fire, Converge, Black Breath) at Godcity Studios, Agnus Dei received bewildered praise from media across the planet and has appeared in dozens of journalist and zine year-end lists.

HOWL: Rhode Island Riff Manglers Complete New Album; Spring Takeover Announced

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

Providence, Rhode Island riff manglers, HOWL, recently completed the recording of their upcoming new full-length. Titled Bloodlines, the band’s sophomore offering was recorded at Planet Z studio in Hadley, Massachusetts, produced by Chris “Zeuss” Harris (Soulfly, Crowbar, Municipal Waste, 3 Inches Of Blood et al) and offers up 10 tracks of lead-footed audio menace.

Comments the band on the results: “Bloodlines is HOWL 2.0/HOWL on steroids/the bigger, heavier album. We took our signature sound and pushed it to the next level. This is a metal record influenced by doom, rather than vice versa. There’s more aggression, more extremes, it’s harder-hitting. Zeuss really helped us capture the sound we wanted, the way we truly sound. Bloodlines is huge, brutal, monstrous!”

Bloodlines is set for release via Relapse Records April 30, 2013. As a precursor to the record’s official unveiling, HOWL will take their metallic doom to the road on a month-long run of live takeovers set to begin next month in New London, Connecticut. Gushed in a near perfect rating of the record: “Full Of Hell isn’t just one of the best metal debuts of the year. It’s likely to be one of the best metal albums of the year.”

HAVOK: “Point Of No Return” Video Premiere Hosted By Bloody Disgusting

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

HAVOK’s latest video has premiered today via Bloody Disgusting. “Point Of No Return” is the title track to the band’s EP, released last Spring as a tide-me-over while the band continued their non-stop touring. The video was directed by Roy Warner and filmed on location in Detroit, Michigan.

Discussing the video, vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez elaborates, “The lyrics of ‘Point Of No Return’ are highly interpretable, but the message of the video pretty simple: The world as we know it is a delicate place and we have never had such a high capacity to destroy the human race as we do now. At some point, our self-made concoction of nuclear/biological weaponry, ancient superstitious beliefs, nationalism, corruption, ignorance, and conflicting ideologies is going to become lethal, on a global scale. We live in a time like no other and it’s obvious that if we don’t change our behavior, it’s only a matter of time before the world is extinguished at the hand of fanatics. It’s literally within everyone’s power to leave the world a little nicer than we found it. Don’t believe everything you’re told: Think for yourself.”

Director Roy Warner notes, “Working with the guys from HAVOK was great. They had awesome ideas to start out with and build from; wanting to showcase real life as the concept. It really illustrates the depths of human depravity in the past, present and what we can expect from the future if attitudes don’t change.”

HAVOK, called “the finest thrash band in existence” by PopDose, released their full-length debut, Burn, mid-2009. The record found an immediate fanbase and the curiosity of media around the globe. Time Is Up would follow in 2011. “HAVOK have hit their stride,” said Decibel Magazine in review of the album. “HAVOK is everything that is great about thrash,” added Terrorizer. Now with the band busy at work recording their new full-length, anticipated for early summer release, HAVOK fans can expect the Denver-based thrashers to keep an active schedule for 2013. Sanchez says, “We’re currently wrapped up in the studio writing our new album. We should be finished recording in March and then, in usual HAVOK fashion, we’ll tour practically all year! There are lots of exciting things coming up in 2013. Keep an eye out for tour dates and we’ll see all of you on the road soon! Until then, spread the word and support heavy metal.”

HAVOK is guitarist/vocalist Dave Sanchez, bassist Jesse de los Santos, guitarist Reece Scruggs, and drummer Pete Webb.

INTER ARMA Releases New Song; Tour With Mutilation Rites Confirmed

Following the recent disclosure of the details on their second LP and Relapse debut, Sky Burial, today INTER ARMA have released the first single from the album to the public. The fifth track from Sky Burial, “’sblood” is a prime example of INTER ARMA’s multi-faceted and all-consuming approach, pummeling the listener with nearly six-and-a-half minutes of hypnotic yet vicious, effects-laden riffery, taking the listener on a dread-fueled, hallucinogenic helicopter ride over a war-ravaged industrial wasteland.

Hear “’sblood” first via the newly-partnered Invisible Oranges/BrooklynVegan HERE.

Additionally, INTER ARMA today unveils their upcoming twenty one-town tour in support of Sky Burial, with Invisible Oranges/BrooklynVegan tagged as the official sponsor for the trek. The action will begin in Chicago on March 10th and includes three full days of mayhem at this year’s SXSW festivities, and will see INTER ARMA joined by Mutilation Rites for the entire mission.

Emerging from the ever-fertile metal breeding grounds of Richmond, Virginia, INTER ARMA merges elements of doom, psychedelic sludge, grind, black metal and more through massive, mighty riffs to create a sound wholly their own. Sky Burial was recorded in Spring 2012 at Dark Arts Studio in Madison, Tennessee, with engineering, mixing and mastering duties helmed by Mikey Allred (Hellbender, USX). The more than hour-long record was created by T.J. Childers (drums, guitars, synthesizer, lap steel, noise), Trey Dalton (guitars, vocals), Steven Russell, (guitars), Joe Kerkes (bass, vocals) and Mike Paparo (vocals), with sporadic stand-up bass, theremin and organ contributions supplied by Mikey Allred. Photography and design for the packaging was completed by Orion Landau and James Rexroad, with special effects by Drew Pierce of Cutthroat Studios.

Sky Burial will see digital, CD and 2xLP North American release on March 19th, 2013, preceded by European release dates of March 15th in Germany, Benelux and Finland, and March 18th in the UK and all other territories. Preorders for the album can now be placed here.
