UNITED FORCES: Members Of Iconic NYHC/Thrash Outfit Begin New Chapter

Monday, December 24th, 2012

Subsequent to the demise of reunited NYC hardcore/speed metal legends Stormtroopers Of Death, two of the four members of the brutal faction have set out to forge a new path of punishment in 2013.

UNITED FORCES unites S.O.D.’s bassist Danny Lilker (Brutal Truth, Nuclear Assault, Nunfuckritual, Lock-Up,ex-Anthrax) and notorious frontman Billy Milano (Method Of Destruction), the longtime cohorts taking their mayhem to new turf. Milano and Lilker recruited two additional henchmen to help carry out their forthcoming disorder, with the thunderous Nick Barker (Lock-Up, Ancient, ex-Cradle of Filth, ex-Dimmu Borgir) on percussive duties, and Anton Reisenegger (Criminal, Pentagram Chile, Extreme Noise Terror, Lock Up) handling guitars. With Lilker located in upstate New York, Milano in central Texas, Barker in England and Reisenegger in Spain, details on the outfit’s plans concerning touring or recording remain unknown, but UNITED FORCES is, without question, a pending force with which to be dealt.

Notes vocalist Billy Milano on the eclectic union of metal soldiers: “I’m not out to reinvent myself at my age. I just want to have a lot of fun with this. We called it UNITED FORCES because we’re located all over the place, in different countries, but this is something we’re going to come together for.” Added four-string assaulter Danny Lilker: “It’s gonna be really fun to get together with some good friends — who are also great musicians — and play some earsplitting, hardcore-tinged thrash metal! And obviously, we know how to do just that.”

At this year’s installment of the Fun Fun Fun fest in Austin, Texas, modern thrash heavyweights Municipal Waste were joined by Lilker and Milano onstage to help unleash the S.O.D. staple “United Forces.” Check it out below.

Future UNITED FORCES plans will be revealed in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

PTAHIL: Blackened Ministers Of Filth Disseminate Their Latest Long Player Upon The Masses

Produced by the band’s own Diego and Thundra Cafolla at Sound Under Pressure in Rome, the massive album was then mixed by Giampiero Ulacco and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music.

Sensory Records, a division of The Laser’s Edge, will release In Crescendo in North America on February 12th. TODAY IS THE DAY Verifies Extensive North American Spring Tour

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

Prophetic extreme music trio TODAY IS THE DAY will embark on an enormous North American tour this March and April, and have unleashed the first wave of confirmed dates today.

TODAY IS THE DAY’s upcoming brutal voyage will begin in the Northeast and storm south across the country on the way to SXSW for this year’s official ToneDeaf Touring showcase alongside Orange Goblin, KEN Mode, Mondo Generator and more. After the festivities in Austin the outfit will continue a clockwise path of chaos up through the Northwest and Midwest US and into Canada.

Support for TODAY IS THE DAY throughout most of the venture will be provided by Black Tusk, KEN Mode and Fight Amp. But Black Tusk will drop from the trek after a month on the road, and will be replaced by a special guest to be announced shortly. Additional American and Canadian shows and more action for this year’s SXSW and more will be confirmed soon as well. Stay tuned. In the meantime, the confirmed routing is as follows, with tickets for most of the shows going on sale tomorrow.

Celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2013, TODAY IS THE DAY remains one of the most unique and influential bands of the past two decades. Nine studio albums have been released on such labels as Amphetamine Reptile and Relapse, and the band’s ever-morphing lineup has included such musicians as Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher, who would later go on to form Mastodon.

TODAY IS THE DAY has toured the world with Motörhead, Helmet, The Melvins, Morbid Angel, Converge, Napalm Death, Neurosis, Eyehategod, Unsane, Coalesce, and many more. Steve Austin has also made a name as a producer, helping create seminal albums for Lamb of God, Converge, Deadguy, and more. The current lineup sees Austin flanked by with drummer Curran Reynolds (Wetnurse) and bassist Ryan Jones (Wetnurse, Mutilation Rites) — as witnessed on the band’s Kurt Ballou-produced Pain Is A Warning LP, issued in 2011 via Blackmarket Activities — which received critical acclaim and took the band on massive US and European tours including performances at Maryland Deathfest, Roskilde Festival and more.

Stay tuned for continuous updates on TODAY IS THE DAY as the tour draws near.

SONS OF TONATIUH: New Video Brought To You By Metal Injection

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

SONS OF TONATIUH bring their slow-roasted sludge sorcery to the screen today via Metal Injection with a video for “Parade Of Sorrow,” the title track to their current full-length, out now through Hydro-Phonic Records. The production was created by Philip Flock in October of 2012 and depicts a world gone critically wrong. Comments the band in a collective statement: “With forgotten souls of the past and the indifference of the future, we continue to inch our way into a void of emptiness and self contempt for humankind. This video is a reflection of that worthlessness we have worked so hard to achieve as a society.”

SONS OF TONATIUH released the riff procession that is Parade Of Sorrow this Summer. Recorded in Athens, Georgia by Kyle Spence of Harvey Milk, Parade Of Sorrow continues to harvest critical hails from fans and critics nationally. Skulls N Bones commends the record for having “a heaviness of its own,” Exclaim likens the songs to “sinking in quicksand, but they evoke panicked thrashing rather than resigned, churning misery,” Broken Beard notes that Parade Of Sorrow “is every bit the Eyehategod worship as their self-titled debut, and yet they’ve squeezed this throbbing new pustule so hard there is pus and blood bursting out all over the place,” while The Sludgelord crowns Parade Of Sorrow “another stellar record from another fantastic band.” Metal Maniacs calls the album “infectious — plain and simple,” Sea Of Tranquility agrees, comparing the output to “…a head-on-collision between early Black Sabbath and Eyehategod,” Axes To Grind opines, “the great thing about this offering is the vast expansion of sound that it encompasses, “Mouth for War proclaims Parade of Sorrow “doomy, swampy and frenetic at times…It’s an album that gets under you skin and worms it’s way into you skull. You can’t get rid of it or it’s southern sludge vibe,”and This Is Not A Scene dubs it “…a savagely aggressive, sonically belligerent album that is among the rawest to emerge from the southern USA in the last decade…”

SARCOFAGO’s Legendary Debut Album Inri Inducted Into The Decibel Magazine Hall Of Fame

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

Greyhaze Records is proud to announce that on the January issue of Decibel Magazine (currently available) the seminal black/death/thrash outfit SARCÓFAGO was inducted into the magazine’s Hall of Fame for their infamous 1987 release INRI. The seven-page interview delves deeply into the band’s blasphemous history and gives a rare glimpse into the inner workings of this immensely influential Brazilian extreme metal outfit. The Decibel Hall of Fame induction coincides with that album’s 25th anniversary.

Conducted by Decibel scribe Chris Dick, the interview includes detailed accounts that actually were missing links into the whole fabric of the original aesthetics and sound of black and death metal including the origins of the blast-beat itself, explained by the band’s drummer, DD Crazy. The interview also provides an inside look into one of the most legendary Metal scenes in the world: that of the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, which not only spawned this month’s inductees, but also Metal titans Sepultura as well as a slew of bands that are today counted as integral parts in the beginnings of extreme Black and Death Metal.

All four original members of SARCÓFAGO (Wagner “Antichrist” Lamounier, Gerald “incubus” Minelli, Zeder “Butcher” and Eduardo “DD Crazy” give their point of view on all aspects surrounding the recording of INRI. There is no shortage of high alcohol consumption, total debauchery, fist-fights, and unrelenting anti-religious angst.

The story also features statements by Fenriz (Darkthrone), Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down), Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates), and Matt Harvey (Exhumed) recounting their experience and praise for Sarcófago’s INRI.

INRI was originally released by classic underground label Cogumelo Records in 1987 and is today available in North America via Greyhaze Records under official license. It can be picked up in the link below:

Tucson sludgetroopers GODHUNTER recently wrapped-up filming a self-financed video for their crushing anthem “Wolves Of The North.”

After making its initial appearance on the band’s 2011-released Wolves EP, more recently “Wolves Of The North” reared its ugly head on GODHUNTER’s self-released split 7” with hometown cohorts Inoculara. The split was pressed on off-white wax, with cover artwork by Matt “Zip” Howard, and interior art by Hoss, limited to only three-hundred hand-numbered copies. The video is currently going through final edits in preparation for its release in January.

Broken into multiple treks between mid-January and mid-March, the quintet will thunder through the Southwestern states and then head back down towards the Gulf Coast, on their way to raid SXSW 2013 for several dates before trekking back to Arizona. Further confirmations will be announced as the dates are finalized in the coming weeks.

GODHUNTER also confirms that indie digital label Moshpit Tragedy will be re-releasing the Wolves EP digitally, and will also be handling the digital sales of the act’s upcoming City Of Dust LP later in 2013. The proceeds from these digital sales will be donated to an animal-based charity. The band will enter Arcane Digital Studios in Chandler, Arizona (Exhumed, Misery Index, Phobia) this Summer with producer Ryan Butler (Landmine Marathon, Unruh) to record City Of Dust; a concept album about life and death in a decaying desert shithole of a hometown.

BAPTISTS: Vancouver Hardcore Unit’s Southern Lord Debut LP Confirmed

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

Vancouver quartet BAPTISTS will set loose its debut LP Bushcraft this February via Southern Lord.

BAPTISTS advocate a creed of destruction through a blistering, discordant hybrid of punk-fueled hardcore. Immediately following its 2010 formation, the sect took to the road and built a strong buzz in the underground scene with ferocious live shows, as Southern Lord unleashed the self-titled 7” in 2011, which sold out instantly. Having laid to waste several The Power Of The Riff events and a plethora of high-profile shows in Canada over the past few years, BAPTISTS have spent a good portion of 2012 vigilantly writing material for an anticipated LP release.

For the recording, BAPTISTS traveled to Salem, Massachusetts to record at the infamous Godcity studios with Kurt Ballou, who captured the eleven anthems embodied on Bushcraft. With nearly a half hour of unhinged lyrical angst and a seething vocal delivery propelled by white-knuckled snare-blasts, d-beat thunder, dissonant riff urgency and an overall relentless by-the-throat approach, Bushcraft is a release not to be ignored.

Bushcraft will drop in North America on February 19th, with BAPTISTS live/tour actions being devised in support of the release. Stay tuned as more details emerge.
