Seattle doom quartet SAMOTHRACE have just issued a statement on their unfortunate but necessary withdrawal from the pending East Coast tour with Pallbearer and Royal Thunder, set to embark in just one week:
“Samothrace is very sorry to announce that we will have to cancel our part on the upcoming tour with Pallbearer and Royal Thunder due to an immediate illness in the family of a band member. The most important thing right now is family. We are stoked to have had the opportunity to do the tour and will be planning to make our way out east in the near future. We appreciate the understanding.”
SAMOTHRACE just wrapped up a five-city West Coast tour last week in support of their acclaimed sophomore LP Reverence To Stone, released via 20 Buck Spin at the end of July. The album was recorded at Soundhouse Studios in Seattle with producer Brandon Fitzsimmons (ex-Wormwood) and mastered at Earhammer by Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Graves At Sea).
Reverence To Stone is still streaming in its entirety VIA PITCHFORK.
“…Samothrace position themselves on a weird axis between Sabbathian doom worship and psychedelic freak-out sludge (á la Cough or Rwake), along with an Isis-esque rhythmic complexity and molten tempo. 8/10″ – Decibel
“…the second full-length from Seattle quartet Samothrace for 20 Buck Spin comprises only two tracks, but they’re diverse and dynamic enough to prove that the breadth of doom is wider than a stylistic rut.” – Pitchfork
“There is emotional comfort to be found in mutual despair, and there is no doubt that Reverence To Stone is a masterwork of shared woe. 4/5″ – About.com
“A vital, forward-thinking entity in the ever-backwards and retrograde world of sludge, Samothrace are an absolute treasure. 8/10″ – Blistering
“While there are a lot of bands working with a similar aesthetic palette, nobody sounds like Samothrace.” – RVA Mag
San Antonio blackened death metal miscreants, HOD, are putting the final touches on their upcoming new full-length. Titled Book Of The Worm, the follow up to 2009’s Serpent features nine tracks of molten metal riffs and sonic decay.
Comments vocalist Vladibeer Reebs: “With Serpent, we were five guys with some ideas. Now we’re a cohesive unit with an agenda. You can feel the energy, hate, and anger in the tracks on Book Of The Worm. In the end, whether it’s Serpent, Book of the Worm, or any future album, it’s all gonna be Fuckin’ Metal! That’s all we know. That’s all we do. That’s all we are.”
The band, who are currently seeking a proper label home, recently posted some new music in the form of “Awakening Blasphemous Abominations.” Taste the evil HERE.
In the meantime, HOD will bring their apocalyptic hymnals to the stage for a short run of rituals beginning September 7 when they’ll sear souls alongside progressive thrash metallers Vektor (and others) in San Antonio. Later that month, HOD will play the Building Temples From Death Fest II in Houston featuring an unholy lineup of Disgorge, Putrid Pile, Dehumanized, Embalmer and over a dozen MORE. In October, the band will open for Skeletonwitch in San Antonio before embarking on a five-date road trip with Canadian black metal horde, Panzerfaust.

Featuring founding guitarist/songwriter Olaf Thorsen (Labyrinth) and singer Fabio Lione (Rhapsody, Rhapsody Of Fire, Kamelot live), the band’s seventh studio offering delivers a melting pot of epic metal anthems with a futuristic concept that follows a man’s journey through outer space in a quest to escape the social and political injustices of Earth.

Amidst a cluster of regional Summer tours, including recent performances throughout the Midwest and Southern US and a show in Canada, Chicago’s orchestral, epic doom outfit EARTHEN GRAVE will head east this week!
The band will play an early show at Acheron in Brooklyn, New York this Friday, preceded by a concert by bassist Ron Holzner’s other band The Skull with Eric Wagner at Saint Vitus Bar. The next day EARTHEN GRAVE will travel to Connecticut for a performance at Stoner Hands of Doom XII on Saturday alongside RoadSaw, Ichabod, Raw Radar War, Pilgrim, Earthride, Revelation, Pale Divine, Iron Man, Elder, War Injun and tons more at the four-day all-ages event. EARTHEN GRAVE will be unveiling a brand new track at the East Coast shows this weekend as well.
EARTHEN GRAVE will also be supporting Kill Devil Hill (featuring Rex Brown and Vinny Appice) Thursday Sept 13th at Chicago’s Double Door, their performance to be streamed live on Gigity.TV. Specifics will be posted on the band’s website shortly.
Having recently performed at the two-day Days Of The Doomed II Festival in Cudahy, Wisconsin alongside Solace, Blood Farmers, Earthride, Revelation, Argus and more. The outfit then crossed into Canada and played their first international show, as part of the Music & Beyond Festival in Ontario where they performed within deconsecrated wood cathedral. Several weeks later as they were set to play in New Orleans, the show was canceled en-route. Making last-minute arrangements, EG ended up joining the bill at a raging, beer-soaked CD release party for Hipsterectomy in Austin, and also landed a spot on Ripple Festival in Dallas where the infamous Sherman from Earthride joined them for two songs, and guitarist Jason Muxlow met one his biggest metal influences when he busted a guitar string mid-set and John Perez stepped out of the crowd to fix it.
Founded in 2008 by guitarist Jason Muxlow (The Living Fields, Wintering) bassist Ron Holzner (formerly of Trouble, Debris Inc., Place of Skulls, etc.),and drummer Scott Davidson (ex-Stonehenge, owner of Rebel Radio), the trio recruited vocalist Mark Weiner (Trifog), guitarist Tony Spillman (Spillage), and renowned classical violinist Rachel Barton Pine on extended range electric flying V violin. In late April of this year, EARTHEN GRAVE entered the studio to create their mammoth first album, simply entitled Earthen Grave. Produced by Ron Holzner, and released via his own Claude & Elmo Music, this layered opus showcases even more range and diversity to the band’s commanding material, clocking in with over an hour of epic music!
EARTHEN GRAVE Tour Dates:
8/31/2012 The Acheron – Brooklyn, NY w/ Iron Man, War Injun, Kin of Ettins
9/01/2012 El ‘n’ Gee – New London, CT @ SHoD Fest [info]
9/13/2012 The Double Door – Chicago, IL w/ Kill Devil Hill
“…one of the year’s most promising debuts… Earthen Grave sounds old school without being retro, managing to go through every element on wich lesser bands uusally fail with exquisite grace and solemn subtelty…” – Terrorizer
“…the integrity and honesty of the musical endeavour shines through, making this a thought-provoking, melancholic metal creation with some real magic…” – Zero Tolerance

“…a unique and refreshing take on the doom metal genre. 8/10″ – Doommantia
“…they take the Black Sabbath/Pentagram/Witchfinder General formula to another level by adding in Pine’s lovely violin work, which gives these crushing songs an almost Kansas-ish feel to them in spots. 4/5″ – Sea of Tranquility
“…one of the year’s best doom newcomers.” – Blistering
“…one of the most unique doom sounds I have heard in a long time. This Chicago based band has certainly offset themselves from their peers. 9/10″ – This Is Not A Scene
Pulverised Records are pleased to announce the latest addition to their roster of brutality: Malaysian death metal deviants, LAVATORY. Spawned in 2012, a five-song EP entitled Transgression was issued earlier this Summer and showcases their unwavering penchant for raw, Swede-ian death metal as originally conjured by the likes of Entombed, Carcass and Dismember. LAVATORY is currently working on their full-length debut. In the meantime, sample their delicious sonic decay right here:
Notes LAVATORY throat-slasher Muntah Ke Darah of the union with Pulverised: “It’s a dream come true for LAVATORY to sign with Pulverised as we are the first Malaysian band offered with this opportunity.”
Adds Pulverised Records label manager Roy Yeo: “LAVATORY caught us by complete surprise when we first heard them, and truth be told, there really aren’t many bands in the Southeast Asia region paying tribute to the elder statesmen of Swedish death metal! This sinister alliance between LAVATORY and Pulverised Records will prove to be an interesting yet lethal one indeed. We cannot wait to hear how they will pick up from where they left off with the Transgression EP. Something tells me that a mixture of sick, crushing and rotten death metal is coming our way!”
Further info on LAVATORY to be announced in the coming weeks.
The fourth studio full-length from American harbingers of epic doom metal, DAYLIGHT DIES, is nearing release this Fall. One of the premiere acts of the genre to hail from the continent, the band have amassed a dedicated following through their live performances and multitude of mini-releases and LPs since their inception in the mid-‘90s. With each new chapter displaying a more dynamic and professional display from the outfit, their 2008-released Lost To The Living album took the band’s name to new heights with the band’s fanbase, who have anxiously been awaiting a new album for the past four years.
The wait is now nearly over, and on October 9th, DAYLIGHT DIES will release A Frail Becoming onto the North American masses. Yielding nearly fifty minutes of the band’s tumultuous, orchestrated doom metal superiority, as always flooded with as much emotion as aggression, A Frail Becoming is the band’s most accomplished work to date. The album was mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Katatonia, Devin Townsend), the packaging bearing photography from award-winning Jonathan Mehring in a layout designed by Agni Kaster.
Today DAYLIGHT DIES have released the opening track to A Frail Becoming as glimpse into what they’ve constructed with this new opus via longtime supporters of the band, Decibel Magazine. Stream the crushing “Infidel” RIGHT HERE.
The band also completed a video for the song “Dreaming of Breathing,” — directed by Ramon Boutviseth, who also directed “Lies That Bind,” a video for their 2006-released Dismantling Devotion album – which will be made available in the weeks ahead.
Having performed live across North America supporting the likes of Emperor, Moonspell, Katatonia, Candlemass and more in the past, DAYLIGHT DIES will head out on tour in support of A Frail Becoming in the months ahead, taking their mammoth songs to the live stage once again in early 2013.
Atlanta dirge merchants, SONS OF TONATIUH, are set to bring their bottom-end to the masses this Labor Day weekend on a short run of dates that will include a stop at the Mutants of the Monster II Fest with Rwake, Hull, The Ascent Of Everest, Broken Teeth, Dahkma, Beneath Oblivion, Sound Of the Mountain, Chronic Ritual and many more.
Comments the band: “Can’t wait to see our brothers and sisters over at the Mutant Fest in Little Rock this weekend. It will be a rager because there really isn’t much else to do in the Republican state.”
Later this October, SONS OF TONATIUH will again bring their sludge to the road for a two-plus week excursion across the U.S. with additional shows to be announced soon. Additionally, the band will appear on the Southwest Terror Fest, a two-day auditory assault organized by Arizona sludge terrorists Godhunter. EKTOMORF have released the second track from Black Flag via AFM Records’ YouTube page. Check out the hateful surge of “Unscarred” right here:
