IDES OF GEMINI: New Track Premiere At Pitchfork

Today Pitchfork.com hosts the exclusive premiere of “Starless Midnight” from celestial doom doers IDES OF GEMINI. The tune comes off of the eclectic West Coast trio’s forthcoming new full-length, Constantinople. Called darkly beautiful” by Pitchfork, the nine-track offering was produced by IDES OF GEMINI and engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Skeletonwitch) at Sunset Lodge Recording in Los Angeles

Notes guitarist/backing vocalist J. Bennett of the first single: “‘Starless Midnight’ was the last song written for Constantinople, but it might be our current favorite. I wrote the music while flat on my back on a sofa bed because I couldn’t walk at the time — long story. I nicked the title from a line in Martin Luther King’s Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, which he delivered in Oslo, Norway, on December 10, 1964. The lyrics have nothing to do with Dr. King, though. They were written by [vocalist/bassist] Sera, who I’m sure would prefer to leave the meaning open to interpretation. But I think I can safely say that it’s a song about being in the dark.”

“Sera Timms’ voice is a national treasure. It’s a reverb-soaked choir of 4AD ghosts floating over scratchy guitars. Burzum scoring a spaghetti western. This stuff gives me chills.” – Decibel

“…music that calls to mind deserts and tundras, angry ghosts emerging from the ether.” – RVA Mag
