BRUTAL TRUTH Premiere New Video; Confirm Tour With Nasum & Dropdead

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Grindcore subjugators BRUTAL TRUTH today unveil their brand new epilepsy-inducing society-hating politically-charged video for “Malice/Fuck Cancer,” the latest in an ongoing bombardment of videos coinciding with their latest LP End Time. This latest action-packed double-header was completed by Tyson Montrucchio who previously also directed BRUTAL TRUTH’s videos for “Sugar Daddy,” “Semi Automatic Carnation” and “Get a Therapist…Spare The World,” in addition to working with Cattle Decapitation, Downspell and others.

So without further ado, just in time for your drunken Leap Year Hump Day festivities, MetalSucks is proud to give you “Malice/Fuck Cancer” AT THIS LOCATION.

This week BRUTAL TRUTH are crossing the southern border of our country to assault Mexico City at Eyescream Metalfest IV, set as one of the main headliners alongside Tankard, Voivod and more.

Additionally the NY-state grinders have confirmed their participation on the upcoming American tour for the almighty Swedish grind unit Nasum. This very special final Nasum tour was booked in tribute to the band’s late vocalist Mieszko Talarczyk, who tragically died in the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. With Nasum bringing BRUTAL TRUTH as well as politi-crust icons Dropdead along as support, there is no doubt that this will be one of the most destructive and pertinent extreme tours of the year.

FEAR FACTORY Album Release Date Confirmed; Additional Performances Added To May Tour

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Candlelight Records today confirms June 5 as the North American release date for FEAR FACTORY’s new album, The Industrialist. Produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly), the album was mixed by Greg Reely (Paradise Lost/Skinny Puppy/Machine Head). It features additional tracking by Logan Mader (Gojira/Divine Heresy/Five Finger Death Punch) and artwork by Anthony Clarkson (Devin Townsend).

The Industrialist is a conceptual album that brings to life a story scripted by vocalist Burton C. Bell. The album’s lyrics detail the plot of the original narrative while delivering FEAR FACTORY’s massive signature sound. Bell reveals, “the album is a futuristic tale of an automaton, striving to survive by fighting for its existence within a desperate world. The lyrics tell the story while the music takes our industrial roots and blends them more perfectly than ever with our metal edge. And all without losing the sound that makes FEAR FACTORY a machine of sonic devastation. FEAR FACTORY fans of any era will not be disappointed.”

Clocking in at just under one hour, the album’s ten songs again unite Bell with guitarist Dino Cazares. It is the second album written by the duo, reuniting in 2009 after a seven year split. Cazares says, “collaborating with Burton again on the new album was like magic. Everything just fell into place naturally. It felt good to recapture the true sound of FEAR FACTORY, taking it back to where it all started while raising it to new levels.”

The Industrialist again pairs FEAR FACTORY with long-time friend Rhys Fulber. Their collaborations together include five albums and two remixes, including the certified gold album Obsolete. “Rhys has been our secret member,” shares Cazares. “He is the one producer who has been able to understand what we have been trying to accomplish from the beginning and has opened our eyes to new things without sacrificing our original sound. His talents in production and keyboard/samples has made FEAR FACTORY stand out amongst the many bands of our genre.”

The Industrialist follows the 2010 release of Mechanize. Widely regarded, the album was the first release from the band in six years and the first new material from the nucleus of Bell and Cazares since 2002. The album debuted on Billboard’s Top 100 album chart week of release and continues to sell in early 2012. Sirus XM/Headbangers Ball’s host Jose Mangin comments, “after Mechanize dominated 2010 as Liquid Metal’s Album Of The Year, North America is chompin’ at the bit to get an ear full of new FEAR FACTORY. I have no doubt that FEAR FACTORY are going to kick our collective asses in 2012.”

Revolver editor Brandon Geist adds, “in the ’90s, FEAR FACTORY’s founding duo of Burton C. Bell and Dino Cazares changed the sound of metal, from the way that metal vocalists sing to the way that metal and electronic music can be fused together. With 2010’s reunion album, Mechanize, their partnership proved to be as lethal as ever. Though 2012 promises plenty of massive heavy-music releases, there isn’t a record that I’m looking forward to more than The Industrialist.”

FEAR FACTORY recently announced their first tour dates since 2011. Joining them for the tour that is set to kick off on May 1 is Boston’s Shadows Fall, Kansas City-based The Browning, Riverside, California’s The Devastated, and Legacy Of Disorder from New Zealand. WOLFBRIGADE Let Ravenous New Track Off Its Chain

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Having recently signed Swedish crust punk overlords WOLFBRIGADE to the label, today Southern Lord has set loose an advance track from the crew’s upcoming LP, Damned, set to hit the streets of North America on April 24th. The raging 35-minute album was recorded at renowned Gothenburg-based Studio Fredman by Frederik Nordstrom (At The Gates, Amon Amarth, Opeth) and arguably shows the band at their finest and most devastating hour, and is the first of three upcoming full-lengths set to be released via Southern Lord.

Today the world can experience a bit of WOLFBRIGADE’s voracious new mayhem via the closing track to the LP, entitled “Peace Of Mind,” now streaming at the Southern Lord website.

Pioneers of the Swedish d-beat/crust movement, WOLFBRIGADE have been storming the scene since 1995, initially known as Wolfpack, the outfit unleashed three LPs and as many EPs of their potent crust-inspired punk in less than five years, instantly making a massively influential impact worldwide and helping fuel an entire new wave of “d-beat” bands and scenes internationally. With some personnel changes at the turn of the century the band kicked off the new millennium under the revamped moniker WOLFBRIGADE. Since then the band’s already powerful attack became even more sinister and morose, yet more aggressive and pummeling. Following four LPs and several splits and mini-releases under the WOLFBRIGADE banner since 2001, the outfit have remained at the top of their game and continue to release invigorating and demoralizing socially-aimed antagonism on a regular basis.

With select touring planned in both Europe and USA throughout 2012, and at least two more releases confirmed for release via Southern Lord, it’s safe to say that we’ll all feel the sting of WOLFBRIGADE quite a bit in the years ahead.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY: New Album Out Today; Headbangers Ball Video Premiere Confirmed

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY’s self-titled new studio offering is out NOW. Released via Candlelight Records, Corrosion Of Conformity was recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Los Angeles, produced by the band in cooperation with long-time collaborator John Custer, mixed by John Lousteau (Foo Fighters) and features artwork by Seldon Hunt (Melvins, High On Fire). Featuring the esteemed Animosity lineup of vocalist/bassist Mike Dean, guitarist Woody Weatherman, and drummer/vocalist Reed Mullin, the album’s release closes a six year recording gap and completes over a year of concentrated writing and recording for the band.

Said Pitchfork in their review of the record: CORROSION OF CONFORMITY is what you want out of a comeback record: not just reclamation of lost vigor but a meaningful update on a vintage sound. If Animosity seemed like an ugly duckling back in the mid 1980s — too punk for the metal crowd and vice versa– Corrosion Of Conformity registers similarly today. In an era when doom metal keeps growing bleaker and artier, and hardcore skews ever more dire, the album serves as a reminder that swagger, soul, and songcraft still have a place in the heavy-rock underground. CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, indeed.”

In conjunction with the record’s release, the Raleigh, North Carolina legends will embark on a full U.S. headlining tour beginning this Thursday at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City. The trek will hit 16 cities including two performances at this year’s SXSW Music Conference in Austin. The band will be joined by Torche, Valient Thorr and A Storm Of Light unless otherwise noted.

And the fun doesn’t end there! Coinciding with the tour kick off, a video for “The Moneychangers” will make its worldwide premiere via Headbangers Ball on Thursday, March 1. The video was filmed in Raleigh by Charles Cardello and features the band in a storyline that brings the song’s lyrics out visually (even Jesus makes an appearance). Check out video stills from the shoot below. To check out the video, visit Headbangers Ball at THIS LOCATION Thursday!

“While mastery isn’t unusual in metal, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY is fully baked enough to make us wish another 29 years on these fuckers.” — Decibel

“…as Corrosion of Conformity draws from the past, it refuses to replicate it here. These tracks are too mid-paced and riff-dominated to be punk, too gruff and volatile for the bluesy hard-rock of the band’s latter days. And yes, there’s no Keenan, giving Dean’s higher register the chance to replace the departed vocalist’s smooth confidence with welcome tension—more Ozzy than Dio, in other words.” — Independent Weekly

C.O.C. weren’t following any trends. They just incorporated all the things they liked about thrash, punk and ‘70s metal originators Black Sabbath into their constantly evolving sound. It secured them artistic and commercial credibility.” — Allmusic.com

Corrosion of Conformity not only brings back one of heavy rock’s most seminal and defining bands, but it pushes that band into new ground it’s never yet known. The achievement is substantial, the performances crisp, the production clear but organic, but sure enough, these elements and the varied aesthetic of the band come together to create something wholly stronger than its parts.” — The Obelisk

“…this is a triumphant return by the band, and should find instant admiration among fans old and new. C.O.C. are well and truly back!” — Metal Assault

PILGRIM: Rhode Island Doom Trio To Appear On East Village Radio This Tuesday, East Coast Mini Tour To Commence March 1

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Rhode Island doom bringers PILGRIM will appear live on East Village Radio’s Metal Inquisition Show this Tuesday, February 28 from 10:00PM – 12:00AM EST. For the first half of the show, the band will be spinning tunes from their own playlist. During the second half, PILGRIM’s latest full-length, Misery Wizard will be played in its entirety.

To hear the show, go to THIS LOCATION.

PILGRIM will be leveling the East Coast this March with their soul-searing bottom-end before making their way to Europe in May. Confirmed dates thus far are available below.

PILGRIM Misery On The Road 2012
03/01/2012 Public Assembly – Brooklyn, NY
03/02/2012 JR’s Bar – Philadelphia, PA
03/03/2012 St. Stephen’s Church – Washington DC
03/04/2012 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA

03/12/2012 1624 N. Harrison St. House – Ft. Wayne, IN w/ Old Soul, Gathians, Somnambulist Red

03/14/2012  ND Studios – Austin TX (Pitchfork’s Show No Mercy SXSW showcase)
05/02/2012 Betong – Oslo, Norway
05/04/2012 Heavy Days in Doom Town Festival – Copenhagen, Denmark

PILGRIM are the latest addition to the Metal Blade roster via Primordial frontman Alan Nemtheanga’s imprint, Poison Tongue Records. The doom trio consists of: Krolg Splinterfist, Slayer of Men on drums, Count Elric the Soothsayer on bass guitar and The Wizard on guitar and vocals. With a mix of destruction, misery and beauty, these young disciples of doom blend a surprisingly original sword ‘n’ sorcery feel with the classic chest-caving heaviness of the masters, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre and Pentagram.

“…an absolutely brilliant album consisting of six epic, fantastical tracks of crushing, deceptively hypnotic and magical doom where no singular highlights exist – each track can stand alone – because the entire effort is a highlight.” – Terrorizer

“…in a realm where the old-school and the experimental push against one another in an eternally dynamic non-equilibrium, it’s certainly not about who your influences are. It’s, of course, about how you use them. PILGRIM simply have fun with these predecessors, renewing old sounds with the zeal of teenage boys worshipping cheap Sabbath posters on their bedroom walls and the skills of players who’ve been at this for a while…” – Pitchfork

“…an impressive offering from a young band.” – Powerline

“This is true doom metal, not the hybrid bile that so many bands are passing off as doom these days. The monster riffs will bludgeon you senseless and shake you to the core, but you’ll keep coming back from more, willingly and repeatedly.” – Pure Grain Audio

“…slow, ponderous, crushing doom, owing much to vintage Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, and the like. Ominous riffs, pounding rhythms, and haunting vocals make up the formula here, and tracks such as ‘Quest,’ ‘Astaroth,’ and ‘Masters of the Sky’ mix up the slow motion death marches with speedier dirges for a wild ride.” – Sea Of Tranqility

JOB FOR A COWBOY: Death Metal Goliaths To Unleash New Studio Offering

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Death metal goliaths JOB FOR A COWBOY will unleash their brand new studio recording entitled Demonocracy this Spring. Set for North American release on April 10, 2012 via Metal Blade Records, the nine-track Demonocracy was produced by Jason Seucof (Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium) who recorded the band’s blistering Ruination full-length, at Audiohammer Studios, and features another strikingly detailed concept cover by artist Brent Elliott White.

Returning with an oddball lineup, the nine-track Demonocracy seethes with unbridled vulgarity and potent disgust. Over their long existence the quintet have built a yearning fan base through their devotion to touring and a diehard commitment to creating relentlessly hostile and involving music, and in 2012 JOB FOR A COWBOY have never sounded hungrier.

Commented the band in a collective statement: “However ruthless an age may actually have been, it’s style transmits it’s music only.”

Check out the bludgeoning new single, “Nourishment Through Bloodshed,” as well as cover art at the band’s OFFICIAL LANDING PAGE.

Demonocracy Track-Listing:
1. Children of Deceit
2. Nourishment Through Bloodshed
3. Imperium Wolves
4. Tongueless and Bound
5. Black Discharge
6. The Manipulation Stream
7. The Deity Misconception
8. Fearmonger
9. Tarnished Gluttony

With the critical praise and fan adoration bestowed upon 2009’s Ruination, it would have been easy for the band to rest upon their proverbial laurels and serve up Ruination Part II. But from the moment Demonocracy roars to life it is wholly evident that this is a far more musically accomplished beast that takes their signature sound to the next level. From the abrasive blast of opener “Children Of Deceit” to the disconcerting strains of “The Deity Misconception” or the brooding, heart wrenching closer “Tarnished Gluttony.”A record drenched in equal parts misanthropy and naked rage, and from start to finish they suspend the listener by the throat.

A key factor in this progression was the change in the band’s ranks, which finds vocalist Jonny Davy, drummer Jon “Charn” Rice, and guitarist Al Glassman joined by guitarist Tony Sannicandro, who met Al when he was a session guitarist for Despised Icon and filled the slot vacated by Thompson. In addition, Cephalic Carnage bassist Nick Schendzielos replaces Brent Riggs. Having initially brought Sannicandro and Schendzielos on as touring musicians, the members immediately gelled, and first wrote together on 2011’s Gloom EP, sealing the deal and securing their places as full-fledged members of the band.

Guitarist Tony Sannicandro believes he made a very natural addition into the band’s ranks, and he’s proud to bring his intricate style to JOB FOR A COWBOY’s instantly recognizable sound. “I think I bring more of an old school guitar approach to the band. Obviously before the band got me there wasn’t a lot of lead work. On the new album has a solo on every song. I think I’ve done the best work of my life on there,” he states. Equally, no one can doubt Schendzielos’ musical pedigree and formidable skills, and the bassist is looking to really make a mark through his work with the band. “It’s really invigorating that the cats in JFAC are into my style because there is such a great expanse of uncharted territory for bass in metal,” he states. “Cephalic is notorious for our chaotic and vigorous live performances alongside an expansive and dilatant range of metal stylings. I’m bringing all that experience with me and combining it with the talents of these splendid men to make my best bass work to date.”

Monday, February 27th, 2012

NEUROSIS and SHRINEBUILDER guitarist/vocalist and solo artist SCOTT KELLY checked in from the current American solo tour with Oxbow’s iconic frontman Eugene S. Robinson with a special update to the trek. Baroness guitarist John Baizely, who supported SCOTT KELLY on his recent tour of New Zealand and Australia, will be making appearances at the upcoming Philadelphia and Brooklyn stops of the tour. The two will perform together during KELLY’s set at both of these performances, making these two evenings even more unique than the already eclectic blends of modern Americana the tour already boasts.

SCOTT KELLY American Winter Tour w/ Eugene S. Robinson [remaining dates]:

3/08/2012 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA
3/09/2012 The Pinhook – Durham, NC
3/10/2012 Snug Harbor – Charlotte, NC

If there was ever a certainty of damage done, dealt and overcome, the SCOTT KELLY solo tour is an object lesson in the character building parameters of life’s grinding parade. Bringing equal parts sonorous weight and lambent beauty, the man, the guitar and the songs from a songbook heavy with NEUROSIS and SHRINEBUILDER antecedents, KELLY’s current tour sees him debuting unreleased songs from his upcoming solo record, as well as his previous solo LPs for a live show experience burnished by the acoustic and not diminished by it. “There’s fear everywhere,” Kelly says. “In moments both quiet and small. And there’s surviving them all. And we are.”

EUGENE S. ROBINSON supports with a brand of storytelling that draws from his previously published work, as well as stories from the beast that has driven OXBOW for the past two decades.

More news on SCOTT KELLY’s upcoming solo LP will be released in the weeks ahead.

And their songwriting has never been better.” Zero Tolerance crowned the record “pure death metal mastery from one of the best bands the genre has ever produced,” while Metal Army America adds: “The masters have turned in effort that will puzzled over, studied and followed forever.”

Torture was produced by Hate Eternal’s Erik Rutan at his own Mana Recording Studio in St. Petersburg, Florida as well as Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas.
